Why factory unlocked iphone require Sim activation ?

I have Factory Unlocked iphone 4, why required sim activation ?
Iphone was on OS 5.1 I upgraded on 7.1.2, first of all the Update failed in start then I had no choice but to restore and now it requiring sim activation, well it's non contract Phone why it need stupid sim activation ?
Why the update got failed ? Steve Job's dream was every hand should hold iphone (We'll provide best of the best) but looks like it can not be accomplished without him (that's my opinion, no offense).
Let me know what is the solution for that, I don't want to install the CYDIA on that like everyone else.
Regards,
M.Aqib

You mean any Sim could be used for activation ?
I unlocked it through at&t website, I am having a legal Phone
I have updated it for the first time.
Mentioning Steve Jobs means he cares about his customers, I don't know about the rest nor I see (again it's a opinion nothing personal).
About the Jailbreak I am not impressing anyone nor I need to and it's not a threat it's a solution I got when I Google it and saw couple of videos on Youtube, it's not something I have said, I said I don't want to do it if you have read my post properly.
You can't OBLIGATE customers like this, show a bit of professionalism.
Looks like you have taken this a bit personal. Customers use this forum for help not to be disrespected. That's not the way Apple should treat it's customers.

  • Cannot activate factory unlocked iPhone 4S: SIM not valid

    Hello Apple,
I have a problem with my Iphone: I purchased a factory unlocked iPhone 4S in a The Source Store in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. I´m from Brazil but now I am living in Israel and the fact that the phone is factory unlocked was necessary for me to use it in both countries ( Brazil and Israel). After my trip to Canada, I arrived to Brazil and inserted my micro-sim into the new iPhone. It showed the "Activate iPhone" screen BUT it won’t activate. It says "SIM not valid" and "Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier´s store to receive a replacement SIM card”.
Now I am living in Israel and the same situation continues: I inserted one Israelian micro-sim into the Iphone and it showed the "Activate iPhone" screen BUT it won’t activate. It says "SIM not valid" and "Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier´s store to receive a replacement SIM card”.
In Israel we don’t have Apple Stores and i can´t have access to one, so now i have an iPhone 4S i cant not eve use as an iPod, leaving it totally useless.
I will greatly appreciate any help!!
Apple Support Team: If you need the IMEI or Serial Number please ask me.
    Thanks in advanced,
    Bernard

The Source in Canada was formally know as Radio Shack and they do sell iPhones.. Only for Bell and Virgin Canada.
    http://www.thesource.ca/estore/category.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&categ ory=iphones&sort=1&pagenum=1
What does it say on your receipt?
As Bell and Virgin do not unlock iPhones you will need to sell that phone to someone in Canada and get an unlocked phone directly from Apple.

  • Why does my factory unlocked iPhone say 'Sim is invalid'?

So i restored my iphone and it all of a sudden would not let me activate it and would tell me my sim card is invalid? after it's been perfect for months. so i go to the apple store and the employee replaces my iphone and tells me to order a new sim card. so i do just that, and with the new phone and the new sim card it still would not allow me to activate my iphone, and it comes up with the message 'sim card is invalid' I really am so frustraded because it has been a week without my iphone and it's really not the time for it to shut down on me. -help would be awesome.

I would take it back to the Apple store.  Maybe the replacement wasn't an unlocked phone.

i bought an factory unlocked iphone 3gs at the apple store today and just ordered a sim card activation kit and a 30 dollar minute card for it. the sim will work in the unlocked iphone am i correct? and i can use messaging on it right?

If T-Mobile in the US, while your phone will activate/work, you won't have FaceTime, MMS or 3G. T-Mobile, in the US, is not a supported iPhone carrier, thus all features of the iPhone may not be available. T-Mobile's 3G network, in the US, is not compatible with the iPhone.

  • HT1267 I have a factory unlocked Iphone 4S, it worked fine but it was lossing the signal and going into search, I decided to restore, but now can not activate it, a message can not be activated because the server is temporary unavailable try again later??

I have a factory unlocked Iphone 4S, it worked fine but it was often lossing  signal and going into search, I decided to restore, but now can not activate it, a message can not be activated because the server is temporary unavailable try again later, I have tried this for 3 days, any suggestions?

yes did you buy it of somebody or a well known company such as apple or carphone warehouse?
and i mean the phone would have been activated in the first place with the sim card you get given when you first get the phone.
trying to activate the phone with another sim card that you did not get when you brought the phone may result in you not being able to activate it
    no worries

  • "Factory Unlocked" iPhone 5s activation

Hi! I just received my sealed "factory unlocked" iPhone 5s as i did last year when iPhone 5 came out... Last year i had no problems i just turned the device on followed activation instructions at the end i just inserted my local sim and it worked fine.
Today (after almost a year) i removed my sim to put it on the new "UNLOCKED" phone and the first thing i noticed as stated by the online store it was a tmobile sim card
"If you buy iPhone for T-Mobile, it will arrive with a nano-SIM card already installed that you can activate by visiting an Apple Retail Store or a T-Mobile store or by calling T-Mobile."
Ok no problemo i said... because of this:
"When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5s from a local GSM carrier. "
but the thing is when i inserted my local sim this time it asked me for an activation and then, surprise!!:
I already restored, tried over iTunes, with Tmobile sim, without the sim, with my local sim and it's still the same... I'm actually waiting for 6:00am when tmobile opens the call center so i can try an activation, would that be the way (call tmobile first) to internationally use this phone? has anybody else had this problem? Is there a faster way to fix this?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Thanks of posting this question. Have you figure it out? I cant find definitive answers anywhere about using iPhone internationally. Very frustrating.  When i call Apple I get answers like "U.S. laws work in the U.S." They basically dont know. But I see people using their smart phones abroad and i doubt they are paying International rates.
I am about to travel for one year all over Europe, Russia and Middle East. I am on Verizon plan in the U.S., but don't want to add International plan - too expensive. I am going go freeze Version for a year, which will allow me to use my iPhone for internet when there is WiFi.
I would like to buy an unlocked Apple 6 (no contract) but only if I can buy a local (Turkish, Russian, French) SIM card in the foreign county and use my phone both as a phone and a device to search internet.
Second question. If I buy iPad with cellular, can I insert local SIM card without any problem?
Somebody said "unlocked" is not the same as "factory unlocked." Is the situation the same with new iPhone 6?
    Greatly appreciated!
    Irina

  • Changing sim in a factory unlocked iPhone- connect to iTunes?

Can someone please confrim as I am getting mixed messages from Apple and other users.  I have bought a factory unlocked iPhone 4 from the online apple store (Canada) and activated it with my Canadian (Telus) micro sim by connecting it to iTunes.  Works fine. When I travel to another country and get a new sim will I have to connect iTunes again to activate the iPhone with a new sim (eg. AT&T or T-mobile)?   Some say that I need to only activate once and then I am free to pop in any micro sim (Canadian or Foreign) without going through iTunes prompt again.  Others tell me that i will have to bring  my computer with me to connect with iTunes to activate the new sim.  Also I was told by apple that i can't stick a new AT&T sim in in iPhone 4  to activate the phone while in canada because I need an active carrier signal. I will have to activate in the US. Is this true?
You folks with unlocked iPhone 4 s please chime in and tell me your experience. Your help is gratefully appreciated.
    Cheers!
    ian

The problem is sloved. Turns out that Apple sent me a replacment iPhone 4 that was only unlocked to Canadian carriers.  The iPhone 4 you buy on the apple.ca online store comes world wide unlocked.  At first they were trying to tell me that the apple online phones are only unlocked to Canandian carriers but this was confrimed with sales that no they are world wide unlocked.  Apple updated my profile for the iPhone4 and now I can stick any sim (Rogers, Telus, Bell, A&T, T-mobile) into the iPhone 4 and there is NO prompt to connect to iTunes.   Also confirmed that you do not need to be near an AT&T carrier signal to have the iPhone activate.  I was in Canada and stuck in an AT&T sim and it found Rogers on roaming and it was fine.

  • I bought a factory unlocked iphone 4s. it was working fine but when i upgraded it to iOS 5.1 it gave me "no sim" message. so when i tried to restore the iphone setting it is giving me now "ICCID: unknown" message please help. any ideas?

i bought a factory unlocked iphone 4s. it was working fine but when i upgraded it to iOS 5.1 it gave me "no sim" message.
so i tried then to restore the iphone using itunes but it got worse it is giving me now "ICCID: unknown" message please help. any ideas?

Please define "factory unlocked". The term is basically meaningless. iPhones are sold either carrier locked or unlocked. Some carriers will unlock them after a period of time upon meeting certain requirements and paying a fee.
There are lots of places that will "factory unlock" an iPhone. This basically translates to "hack". This can cause permanent damage to the phone. Best case scenario is these phones will re-lock to the original carrier on an update or restore. Worst case it they become expensive bricks.
ICCID unknown indicates a critical failure. There is no way to resolve this other than taking it in to Apple and getting the phone replaced. It's very possible that the phone was hacked and attempting to update has now killed it.
Where, EXACTLY, did you get this phone?

I thought that, but I put the sim card in another device that is not Apple and works. Definitely the sim card work, but no longer in my iPhone 5 or maybe in any other Apple device, i dont know why!! But i gonna get a replacement to see what happen

Was it purchased from an official Apple Store, not a reseller?  Only Apple Stores sell official factory unlocked phones.  The others sell hacked to unlock phones, and the unlocking is unstable.
    Try these steps, as needed:
    1. Reset phone - press both home and on/off buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
    2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    3. Replace SIM card (and reset network settings again)
    4. Restore Phone in iTunes using a backup
    5. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup

  • T-Mobile SIM card won't work with my replacement factory unlocked iPhone 5

On Saturday, my rear camera on my factory unlocked iPhone 5 stopped focusing. I took it in to my nearest Apple store and they replaced it. Problem is, now I can't get my T-Mobile SIM card to work with the replacement phone. The guys at the genius bar sent me to T-Mobile to see if a new SIM card would fix the problem, but I'm still getting an "Unsupported SIM" error when I try to activate the phone. Any insights?

Do you have information about the model no. of original purchase that is printed on the back cover ?
What is model no. of the replacement iPhone 5 ?
If T-mobile SIM worked on the original purchase and does not work on the replacement iPhone 5, they gave you a wrong model.

  • How can i fix "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported " after restoring a factory unlocked iphone 4

how can i fix "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported " after restoring a factory unlocked iphone 4

The term "factory unlocked" has no meaning. Your phone was not legitimately unlocked. Contact the carrier it is locked to and find out if you can get it unlocked.

  • Trial of another micro sim in factory unlocked iphone

I have established that i have a factory unlocked iphone but i just want to make sure and test another providers sim in my phone before i cancel my old contract.  Is this easily done and if so will it change my phones settings even if i only try it to test out for a minute?

  • Can i use/ activate factory unlocked iPhone 5S in india without SIM

    Hello,
I am planning to buy iPhone 5S. I am a blackberry 9900 users
Can i use/ activate factory unlocked iPhone 5S in india without SIM (Purchasing in India).
I need time some time to transfer data from BlackBerry to iPhone 5S.
    Thanks.

Yes. it's Factory unlocked iPhone 5S gold.
    Problem is...
i have one sim (big for for BB9900). And iPhone 5S uses smaller...
Vodafone India will give me free nano sim, i will take 4-5 hours to work that SIM....
My biggest concern is Address Book (Phone book), Password Keeper (password manager), Task Jot (GTD app)
I need to manually enter all this data in iPhone 5S, there is no standard converter or transfer tool...
existing ones freak out and miss lot of data....
i will first enter all data and get a nano sim. this will take more than 2 weeks...
so i thought if iPhone 5S can be switched on then i can enter data in free time.
