Why Firefox 5.0 Still Consumes A Lot Of RAM?

Contrary to many statements that Firefox 5.0 is RAM optimized and uses less, i still have Firefox eating '''[http://i.stack.imgur.com/i1AgT.png almost ~800MB of RAM and mapping more]'''.
I used command:
''about:memory''
And was presented with a modules/extension tree and i don't understand what each means. Does anybody here have experience or knowledge about this here who could tell me where may be the problem?

Have you any particular reason for using an older version of Firefox.
Whilst I rarely use firefox 3.6 now, and do not know the answer I will comment that the now unsupported firefox 4 did have bad memory problems in some cases. Some of those problems were addressed in firefox 5, and others are addressed in Firefox 7, which is due out on the Aurora channel next week.
You could consider upgrading to a newer version of firefox. If you need firefox3.6 only for limited use you could consider using Firefox portable, alongside a newer version of Firefox.

  • WhatsApp on E72 consuming a lot of RAM

I have observed that WhatsApp consumes a lot of RAM on my E72. So much so that I can't even use Maps or browse heavy pages. To free up the RAM, I need to switch it off but even though I exit the program, it still is running in back ground and consuming the RAM.
Is there any way that I can close this program ? Currently I am using NetQin to close it but its a very lengthy process.
Also if any of you are using an equally good program kindly inform so that I can switch over.

  • Why is my macbook pro is still using a lot of RAM?

I have a Macbook pro 15" (mid 2012) 2.6 GHz and with 16gb RAM and was wondering why my macbook pro still processes and uses over 9GB of ram when I'm not even having  Lightroom, Photoshop, and Illustrator in effect yet.

It's not a memory leak, see the references to learn more about how RAM is utilized to speed up the Mac.

  • WmiPrvSE.exe Consuming A Lot of RAM on 2012R2 DCs with SCOM Agent

    Good afternoon,
I have three Windows Server 2012 R2 Domain controllers (AD DS, DNS, and DFS roles) and I'm running SCOM 2012 R2 Update Rollup 1 with all the latest management packs for Server 2012 R2, Active Directory, DNS, and DFS.
When I install SCOM agents on these DCs, a WmiPrvSE process starts consuming a lot of memory until it reaches around 512MB.  At that point no one can RDP to the DCs, but we can enter-possession to get-process | sort ws and kill the offending WmiPrvSE.exe
process.  When I uninstall the SCOM agent the server returns to normal.
Other Windows Server 2012 R2 servers in our environment don't have this problem.  And when we had Windows Server 2012 (no R2) domain controllers this wasn't an issue.  My assumption is one of the management packs are an issue.
I've seen other posts, but they are either related to older versions of Windows Server or not domain controllers.

  • Why are the pages still loading so slowly? Firefox is also still using a lot of memory. I've tried everything and still have the same issues. The new versions never help either. The support section still lists the same "solutions" that do not work.

I have spent too much time on the same issues. Will the issues ever be resolved?

i'm also having major CPU problems w/ FF 29.0.1. when i restart the app it calms down again but after loading tabs it steadily climbs up to 100% after not too long. i have checked out the 2 CPU links/articles above and do all the basic troubleshooting and tips, but with all the FF tools & add-ons isn't there some sort of CPU monitor that has the ability to display which extensions/scripts are hogging the CPU? Activity Monitor on Mac just shows the total used by the app. it's impossible in my case to efficiently disable dozens of add-ons & scripts, restart, and test each one by one b/c it can take several hrs before the CPU starts to spike high again. i have no time for this.
    thanks

  • Why does out slapd process consume a lot of memory (1.1 GB)?

Our LDAP installation (4.1) on Solaris 5.8 consumes too much memory. It is now at 1.1 GB and rising. I have tuned the dbcachesize and cachesize parameters in the config file, but that has not helped.
I'd appreciate any help I can get in solving this problem. Also, I can't upgrade our installation due to other issues.

Which exact version are you using? There were some memory fixes in the service packs.

  • PS CS4 consumes a lot more RAM than CS3

I recently updated from Photoshop CS3 to Photoshop CS4 and now I have the problem that CS4 is consuming very much RAM.
When I open the same image on both versions CS4 consumes like four times as much RAM as CS3 does.
Settings are identical on both versions, so I don't quite know how this can be.

    TheARchitect2009 wrote:
As an example: In idle, without any file loaded, CS3 uses around 90MB while CS4 uses 380MB.
I don't run CS4 on Windows (just CS3) so I can't say whether is this normal behavior. That sadly may be simple application bloat. I was also shocked to see Vista using 1 GB of RAM when idle and without running apps.
Make sure your RAM allocation and history state settings are consistent between the versions.

  • Photoshop CS5 consumes a lot of RAM

    Hi,
While using Adobe Photoshop CS5, I am suffering of RAM loss, it consumes around 2.5 GB of my RAM, while Adobe Illustrator CS5 consumes around 500 MB of RAM.
Is this normal or I have to do something to minimize memory usage with Photoshop?

By default, Photoshop uses 70% of available RAM. The more RAM available to Photoshop, the faster Photoshop can process image information.
    You can adjust here:
Choose Photoshop > Preferences > Performance...adjust in 5% increments...restart Photoshop after each change.
You really should Max out your computer, if you want the best performance, before messing with Photoshop.

  • Oracle 10g consumes a lot of ram

    hello everyone,
    i'm a newbie to oracle,
    can someone solve my problem
when oracle database is running , i can't run any other applications (on windows)
task manager shows around 100 mb memory usage for oracle
is there any solution to this problem...

    one solution can be:
-add more memory to your XP Pro: 2GB and more
-install a blank Virtual Machine [vmware.com] on your XP as a host
-on the Virtual Machine install the guest OS: say Win Server 2003 [u can get it free from MSoft site], configure the Virtual Server as Active Directory, DNS, Server, DHCP Server. Use Static IP for the server.
-install Oracle 10g on the Virtual server
I did the same on my XP Pro system and Oracle 10g EE runs OK on it. My CPU is 2 GHz.

  • Firefox does not start when I click, but consume a lot of resourcein task manager

    Hello,
Since a few days, when I click Firefox, it does not start anymore (browser Windows does not appear anymore).
Also, I noticed that after I click, my computer makes a lot of noise et becomes slow & gets almost blocked: I can see that in the task manager/processes, firefox is there and consume a lot of memory ressources.
    Can you help ?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Thanks for you reply. What you propose me is to create a new profile and transfer the files from the old profiles to the new.
I am not interested by this option as I want to keep my current profile as I am using programs working on this profile and also have Firefox working on this profile.
But I have a new information which might help. I did not see it during my last tentative but after a few minutes after Mozilla launch, there was like a bug report which were generated.
I copy paste below. Hope that it can help :

  • SQL Developer consumes a lot of memory

Sql developer consumes a lot of RAM (around 100 MB) few minutes after start of application . any tips to reduce this?

This is usually due to the caching of database objects on support of code insight and is dependent on the number of objects in the database. As documented in the readme.txt in the sqldeveloper home directory, you can disable code insight.
    2.1  To disable Code Insight
Run SQL Developer from a command line using the following statement:
       Windows : sqldeveloper -J-Dsdev.insight=false
Linux or Mac: Run sh sqldeveloper -J-Dsdev.insight=false
or edit sqldeveloper.conf and add "AddVMOption -J-Dsdev.insight=false"

I'm pretty sure the fact that it was in the washer is the problem.  Just because you 'dried' it in the sun doesn't mean it wasn't permanenlty damaged.  Try putting it in a bag of rice for 5-7 days.  If it still doesn't work, it's probably permanent.

I want to ask something about firefox.
why firefox use very much memory?
can you develop to reduce memory comsume?
this problem is very distrub in my PC with low memory.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

How much memory is Firefox using right now?
    # Press '''CTRL+SHIFT+ESC''' to load the Task Manager window
    # Click the Processes tab at the top. (Click once near the top of the window if you don't see tab
    # Find firefox.exe, and see how many kilobytes of memory it's using.
Showing around 80MB when Firefox first starts is normal. Right now, I have 75 tabs open and it's using 500MB - this varies a lot depending on what you have in the tabs.
Other than high memory usage, what other problems are you experiencing? (Examples include slowness, high CPU usage, and failure to load certain sites)
Many of these issues, including high memory usage, can be caused by misbehaving add-ons. To see if this is the case, try the steps at [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]. Outdated plugins are another cause of this issue - you can check for this at http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck
