Why firefox is slower than chrome?

I switched to chrome because of this...

<blockquote>
The issue may be due to the difference in the page rendering technology used by Chrome and Firefox. </blockquote>
dileepkumars1: Mozilla uses Spidermonkey (written by Eich in 10 days!) for Firefox whilst Google uses their own V8 engine.

Hi, sorry you're having problems with Firefox. Can you try to access Firefox in Safe Mode to see if the problem still exists and/or if it opens? You can follow the below instructions to start it in that mode.
*Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
*When Firefox closes and re-opens, select ''Start in Safe Mode''
If Firefox works fine after starting in Safe Mode, then it's most likely one of your extensions misbehaving. You can enable your add-ons back on by one until you find the conflicting extension.

  • Why does the new version FireFox run slower than the old one?

I have a fairly new computer but Firefox runs slower than the older version. Can this be remedied?

That does not sound right. I recommend rebuilding your VI. Beore you do, open the top level VI and press contol-shift-run arrow to perform a manual binary recompile. This makes LabVIEW recompile the whole code. Most times you will not see anything happen but occasionally an error will surface. Be sure to save the VI then rebuild it.
You may also need to reinstall the LabVIEW run time engine and/or LabVIEW. I would start with the run time engine first.

  • Why is java slower than C and C++

    Hi Guys:
I would like to know why Java is slower than C and C++ in terms of compilation speed...
Does it have to do with the fact that Java compiles to byte code first and then the JVM translates byte code to machine code which your processor can understand. whereas C and C++ compiles directly to machine code...
Any ideas on that,...let me know..

It's not necessarily. I would suggest that it always is; whencomparing
specific tasks.I would suggest that is never is (significantly)
    when non-trivial and non-specialized applicationsare
involved. Requirements and design always have a
much greater impact. There's no doubt that the design is the most
    important
aspect when writing a program, but assuming those
    things
are equal, the fact is that a c program will be
faster.Yes, but given the fact that there is almost zero chance that the requirements, design and implementation will be optimal, it means that the real differences between the languages are insignificant compared to the real difference caused by the other factors.
In the theorectical world C/C++ is faster. In the real world, most of the time, it is not significant.

  • Why is Firefox about 5 times slower than chrome on same tablet?

Hei, I love the idea behind firefox, but as mobile browser it feels very slow.
Using the zimbra ajax email client, firefox mobile on a powerfull sony xperia tablet z takes 25s to start up, and even then, usage is laggy. Chrome on the same device starts in 5s and works smooth.
About the same results I get with http://tagesschau.de firefox mobile takes several seconds to display the page readably, while chrome gives the wanted results immediately. I even deleted all history and private stuff, and don't use any addons in firefox, as I read at your help pages, but firefox feels far behind in usability compared to chrome.
    Best regards,
    Heiko

Are these numbers pertaining to the first request only. Actually there has been quite a lot of changes in classloader and jasper compiler etc,. in sp4. Infact sp4 is proved to be much faster than earlier versions (Though I donot have exact figures with me, sp4 is faster than sp1). But some times it also depends on the settings like the debug level, type of session(lite or distributed) etc. At this time, as you are using only the defualt set up, I suggest you to try with other samples and verify is sp4 really 7-10 times slower than sp1. And then come up to a conclusion.
After having tested with multiple samples, with the "same parameters" on both the service packs, Still if you feel sp1 is faster or any further queries please get back to the forum. Please provide information about your settings also, so that I can investigate.
    Thanks,
    Rakesh.

  • Why firefox has slow response when i 'm saving pictures to hard disk?

I have windows 7 64 bit and Mozila firefox ver. 17.0.1. I have the following problem. When i try to save a picture from a site (right mouse click and save as) to the hard disk of my pc, the response of firefox is slow. It takes about 6 to 10 seconds. I thought it was a matter of file size but it proved that it was irrelevant, because it was happening to pictures from 10kb to 500kb. I did the following:
    - clear history
    - clear cache from firefox and the folder ''cache'' in my profile
    - delete the files downloads.sqlite and localstore.rdf
    - i changed the ''browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone'' and ''services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone'' to false
    - clear the downloads window
    - disable all add-ons
After all these, the problem still remained
Then i started firefox in safe mode (help --> Restart with Add-ons Disabled...). The problem still remained.
Then i disabled Microsoft security essentials (real time protection) and windows firewall. I do not have any other anti-virus or firewall on my pc. Nothing happened.
Then i created a new profile (reset firefox). Nothing happened. So, one last attempt was left to do. Reboot with safe mode. So i followed the following steps.
i ran msconfig and disabled ''Microsoft Security Client'' from start up tab and ''Microsoft Antimalware Service'' from services tab. So i did a safe mode boot with network support and windows firewall, disabled. Guess what. Nothing happened.
I noticed that when i was trying to save pictures, during the process, there was a significant hard disk activity (the led indicator of hard disk activity was lighting constantly) and firefox on the left upper corner, shown the message ''not responding'' for about 6 to 10 seconds. You understand that saving a picture of 19kb in 10 seconds is not normal.
Is this problem has to do with the cache? The hard disk is an SSD (solid state drive). Do you think it would be better to redirect cache to memory? (i have 6GB total RAM). This problem was also happening to previous versions of firefox, but i think that with this version, the problem is more frequent. It is not happening with every picture, but it happens with more than 65% of the pictures.
It also happens when loading a web page, but it might be a matter of a heavy web page that uses many resources of my system, during loading. The problem is the same. Constant hard disk activity and it takes time to load the web page. The problem with web page loading, is not as frequent as with saving pictures.
I think it is a matter of cache management. What is your opinion?
    Thank you.

The cause to my problem was the jump lists, that Windows 7 introduced. There are two kinds of jump lists, automatic and custom. Automatic jump lists were causing the slow down of firefox through window explorer. Finally it was a problem of windows explorer and not firefox. Windows 7 introduced many new features that cause slow system performance. Anyway the solution to the problem is to follow the steps:
    1. Open mycomputer and on the address bar paste the path: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
    2. Press ctrl + a
    3. press shift + delete and delete everything inside the folder
I think that the respective jump list of windows explorer is the one that starts with 1b4dd67f29cb1962, in case you don't want to delete every jump list in the folder. If you use firefox, download a file and then go to the above mentioned path and view files by date. The most recent file should be the correspondent with firefox.

  • Anyone has any idea why KT400 is slower than KT333?

We have heard and seen reviews that MSI KT4 Ultra is(was) slower than KT3 Ultra(2), so as other manufacturers KT400 boards. All seem to be slower than KT333.
Anybody know why? or have read any studies on this issue?

I have no idea, but Mobo manufacturers are rushing new products to the market to be the first with 333, 400, what's next?  My strategy is to read the reviews but wait until the board (or CPU) is sub top and buy it when the bugs have been ironed out (or well documented in fora like this) and the price has come down.  Sorry, I am Dutch!

  • Firefox loads pages much slower than Chrome

Recently switched back to using Firefox as I wasn't finding the extensions I like for Chrome only to discover that Firefox is running significantly slower by comparison. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling and it hasn't helped.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
    See:
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firewalls
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Firefox loads slower than internet explorer- WHY?

It takes twice as long to load Firefox. I took it to Best Buy to check out. They couldn't figure out. No virus.

Firefox needs longer to startup than IE. IE is part of Windows and large parts are already loaded if Windows is started. Firefox uses XUL and JavaScript code that needs to be loaded and compile on startup and that takes longer. That is what makes Firefox configurable by extensions makers and proficient users.
How long does it take for Firefox to start?
A few seconds (less that 20) is quite normal for the first start, especially if you have a lot of bookmarks or history or extensions. A subsequent start should be much faster with all the files in the disk cache. There is also security software that can monitor disk access of Firefox to strictly and cause extra delays in starting.

  • Why is Firefox much slower than other browsers.

Using Speedtest.net I've noticed that Firefox is running at around 6meg, whereas other browsers run at the correct 20meg.
Any ideas what could be wrong, as this never used to be the case.

I've been doing a bit of testing. If I restart in safe mode, it works as it should, full speed. But I've tried disabling all the add-ons manually, and it's back to a third of the speed. Weird!!

  • Safari and Firefox much slower than my old Windows notebook

I'm a new Mac user. I have a new MacBook late 2008, OS 10.5.8. Loading web pages is much slower on the mac than my 3 year old Windows XP machine. My former router was a LinkSys, now I have a brand new Airport Extreme.
It works the same way on any network, home or elsewhere. I've tried fixing disk permissions. I can go to Google for example, click on a new page and wait up to 8-10 seconds for the new page to load. The bar at the bottom of the page shows activity.
I'm using the Windows machine to surf now, until I can get this figured out.
I'd greatly appreciate any help. My Macbook is great other than for web.
    Thank you.

    Sig and others,
Thanks for your comments. This is getting a little scary for a rookie. Is this something I can safely do with no knowledge on networking, etc? That's kind of why I bought a mac. Is there an Apple Support document or thread that will guide a new user on this kind of issue. I'm still using the old PC laptop for web because of the speed issue.
The support guys at the retailer are blowing me off... PC vs Mac kind of deal.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Is there an explanation why Firefox became slow after I upgraded my phone to Android 4.0?

On the previous version of Android (2.3; Gingerbread) the browser was really great, but now it's slow. The pages loading is fine, also the rendering of images. It is moving within websites that is slow. Firefox usually registers the motion but only moves when I release my finger of the screen. This is the only problem I'm having, but sadly our makes it unusable for the time being.

hello, i don't have a device that is capable of running firefox on android, so i can't give you specific advice, but you could try the beta version of firefox which reportedly contains many improvements (also performance-wise): [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta]

  • Safari significantly slower than Chrome!

Since purchasing my mid 13 macbook air, I've always used firefox and then chrome. Recently, I have really wanted to use Safari as I have seen several posts about the performance and battery life benefits. After using Safari for a few days, I find performance is pitiful compared to Chrome. On average, website will take several seconds longer to load up on Safari. I have tried emptying the cache, deleting all history and also disabling plugins (I used adblock and roboform). None of it has made a difference so far. I really want to like Safari but it's proving to be difficult. Any other recommendations for what I can do to improve performance? Thanks for any help!

Go step by step by step and test.
    1. Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.

  • Downloads in Firefox are slower than in other applications

Downloads in Firefox always seemed to be lightning quick. Now a 84 MB file is taking over 30 minutes to download.
    Any thoughts?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
