Why four Windows Update related services now listed in Services in French?

I was surprised to see these listed in Services,
"Mise a jour automatique" = Automatic Updates
"Centre de securite" = Windows Security Center service (wscsvc.dll).
"Pare-feu Windows / Partage de connexion Internet" = Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing
"Service de transfert intelligent en arricre-plan" =
Background Intelligent Transfer Service
System is Windows XP SP3 Pro updated from original install of English version Windows XP SP2 Professional.
Drivers had been modified days ago, just hours before I noticed this.
wuauserv.dll
wscsvc.dll
BITS  = qmgr.dll
SharedAccess = _______
I was investigating why network service DNS at 50% CPU continuously.
I realize I don't even need these for XP since no new updates and other programs can check for missing updates.
My second PC with the same XP SP3, installed  from same source, OEM XP SP2 cd updated to SP3, doesn't have this problem.  Those drivers dated 2008.

I know its possible for language packs to be added via Windows Update, that may have happened. Why it would randomly change only a few processes is peculiar. I do, however, love your picture :D

  • Why did Windows updates remove Adobe Acrobat?

    This has now happened twice.  I think the last time I did some kind of restore back to a prior state but this time I'm going to re-install Acrobat I guess... but why is this happening?   Now whenever I open a PDF, it opens in Adobe Reader and I can't do all the cool things Acrobat does...  ugh.

    Hi amanda,
    Windows updates are not known to cause uninstallation of Acrobat.
    Please check the 'Control Panel' > 'Programs' to see if Acrobat is istill listed or not.
    If Yes, select 'Acrobat' click on 'Change' to repair Acrobat.

  • Windows Updates problem - Restart Now Loop

    Hello everyone,
    i have a problem where i cannot "check for updates". When i open Windows Update i have a message telling me to restart my computer to install important updates.
    I have restarted a hell of a lot of times and the message remains. If i press "check for updates" i get the message "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because you must first restart the computer so that a previous installation
    can be completed". Can anyone help? :(

    Resolved the problem.
    Had to delete all the pending windows updates which were apparently "corrupt" or whatever.
    Open regedit - TAKE A BACKUP FIRST.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RebootRequired
    This key shows when we install windows update and after the system reboots it gets automatically deleted, in case of corrupt entries in this key the key stays and Keeps promoting for restart, so we have to manually the "rebootRequired"
    key.

  • Why don't updated apps clear from list?

    with ios7 automatic updates turned on the newly updated apps do not clear from the updated app list.

    They do after about a week.

  • Just updated 10.5 now has location service and others-IOS-ICLOUD etc.  If I hit agree will there be charges I can't find a straight answer. Now I just use my 3 gen. IPOD touch for music and photos. Thanks to all. Tom

    The ipod touch wants me to chose or decline these new features. They sound good but I don't want to get any extra charges. Now use for music and phjotos only. Don't want to decline if these are worth while.  Thanks to all.  Tom  Toucch is 3 gen

    Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

  • Updated iphone 4 now battery draining and constantly have no service on my phone I have just had my phone repair after havin water damage so I am disgusted for this to happen now, want to know if there is a solution to this.?

    Recently updated iphone 4 now have no service or always searching I appear to get signal sometimes but one bar and weak 3G but this will go within a minute so is useless I am joy using my phone as much due to this so start off day with 100% to come to find my phone at the end of the day with 14% this is usually not the case as I do not have to charge it as often as I am I am disappointed with apple and want a solution does anyone have any ideas ????

    Reset network settings.  Settings => General => Reset => Reset Network settings.  You will have to log back into any Wifi network you had saved on your phone. It will also make sure you are connecting to the nearest cell tower.
    Reset phone, hold down both Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and continue hold them down until the Apple logo appears on screen.
    Reset All Settings. Settings => General => Reset => Reset All Settings.  You won't lose any data or content, but you will have to go into settings and turn on or off anything you have previously turned on or off.
    Run the battery all the way down to the point where the phone will not turn back on.  Recharge the phone overnight using a wall charger, not a USB port on your computer.

    As per my research, those events which related to Device Setup Manager generated because Device Setup Manager just goes out and pings windows update
    every night to see if any devices that are installed and set up to use Windows Update to update the corresponding drivers.
    Currently, I suggest we make sure the drivers on your server are all up to date via Device Manager. Meanwhile, please try setting up the Windows Update settings from
    installing update automatically to manually installing updates. Then restart the server to monitor the issue.
    After all the above, if the issue persists, could you please help collect the following information?
    =====================================
    1. Run the following command and upload the system information.
    msinfo32 /nfo      C:\SYSSUM.NFO /categories +systemsummary
    2. Does the issue still occur in Clean Boot mode?
    If you have any questions or additional information, feel free to let me know.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Sharepoint 3.0 website no longer working after Windows updates installed

    We have an Intranet site that was set up in SharePoint 3.0. Over the weekend windows updates were installed, specifically KB2687442. Now my Intranet site does not work. When I try and run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard it
    fails at step 9 with the following error : Failed to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown. Additional exception information: Cannot start service SPAdmin on computer '.'. When I try and
    start the Windows SharePoint services administration service manually it fails to start. When I look in the windows event log there are errors in the application log about SQL exceptions

    Hopefully this gets moved to the right forum - it doesn't belong here.
    I've had a few customers run into this issue as well after running Windows Update.  Reboot the server (admin service should start), and then try the following command:
    psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait

  • Pavilion Slimline s5257c-b Win 7 64bit - Locks up after windows update

    I bought this computer for my kids a few years ago at Sam's Club and i cant find any support for it on the HP Support page.  I found that this was not intended for the US, does that sound right?
    It had been working fine until about 6 months ago.  I had Auto Windows Update turned on.  After an update, the pc would start to boot, get the HP splash screen, the Windows graphics and then the screen goes dark.  You expect the accounts screen to come up but you get a black screen with the cursor.  The only way out is to hold down the power button.  It will come up in recovery mode and try to recover its self.  Very rarely happens.  I normally have to go into recover manager and pick a restore point before the windows update.  I have since turned off windows update but every now and then an update gets through.  I have looked for anykind of updates on the HP support site but it does not list the machine.  I've let the support tool search my machine and it does not find the PC only the printer i have installed.
    Any ideas what is going on?
    Thanks
    Ken

    Thanks for the explanation. It makes me feel a little better that could not find it.
    I have not ran a registry cleaner on the computer but this system is primarily the kids to play their games and music. I did run the ms repair utility from the ms website you sent me. It found an error and repaired it. I will create a new restore point and then install the windows updates. Hopefully all will be better.
    Thank you for your time and help. I really appreciate it.

  • IE 11 Does not load pages and "Stops Responding" After 11/26/2013 Windows Update

    I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. IE 11. (Doesn't matter if I try to open 32 or 64 bit IE)
    I keep Automatic Updates on and they install as soon as they are available.
    Everything on my PC was running fine 11/25/13.
    I came to it 11/26/13 after Windows Updates ran and now whenever I open any webpages, it does not load the web page 100%, no hyperlinks can be clicked on and once you attempt to click on anything. I get the "IE 11 has stopped responding" bubble.
    It also seemed to affect Firefox which does not completely load pages either.
    Any shove in the correct way to help solve this would be helpful.

    Robert -
    Anyone who has gathered over 13,000 points is certainly to be respected as being super smart and uber helpful.  However, your response is inadequate on two counts.
    First, "stopped working" is not an inexact phrase, nor is it a euphemism trotted out by a newbie who hasn't the skill to describe the problem accurately. "stopped working" is an exact part of the error message issued by Windows.  Of course it would
    help if Windows would issue error messages that are more useful, but that is a different issue. For the purposes of this discussion, "stopped working" as part of the exact error message is a useful piece of information.
    Second, despite your excellent suggestions for hunting down the problem, I'm guessing that few people here have the time or inclination to be beta testers for Microsoft.  Even if the exact cause is found, it is not likely that anyone here will
    be able to fix the problem.  There are literally hundreds of people complaining about this problem in multiple forums.  If you know your consumer behavior metrics, then you know that means tens of thousands are affected.  This is systemic, not
    a random problem on a few errant machines.  Microsoft needs to know that they have a major problem on their hands and they need to fix it.  I saw this problem starting with IE 10.  Is it any wonder that in that time, IE usage has fallen greatly
    while Chrome has become the dominant browser?  (The only reason I am bothering to write instead of just shifting to Chrome is that Chrome also has its bugs, one of which affects a web app I use several times a week, so I need a functioning version of
    IE.)
    So thanks Robert for all your help in the past, but this response isn't helpful.
    Microsoft, are you listening?  Fix your browser.

  • Changes in screen brightness after Windows update

    I recently purchased my Lenovo IdeaPad P500. The screen was fine until an automatice Windows update occurreced. Now it is hard to see the screen because it has darkened. No matter what I try I cannot get it to brighten up and it is hard to view in well lit rooms. What can I do to correct the problem. I have tried all of the googled suggested out there with no success.  Please HELP!!!

    I don't see where to turn off the auto brightness feature in Win 8.1 on P500 Ideapad.
    But I think this laptop has other problems; the screen remains very dim even while booting up.
    Help!

  • Manage SCCM 2012 clients in DMZ (OS Deploy, Windows updates) via DP/MP

    Hi,
    We ’d like to manage (=OS Deploy, Packages,Windows updates) Windows clients (Windows 2008/2012 R2 servers for now, about 20 of them) in a DMZ (= different domain).
    There is this article
    https://nikifoster.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/installing-configmgr-clients-on-servers-in-a-dmz/ which explains what to do … in 2011. Since then lots of things are changed I guess
    Before I dive in, I’d need to have an overview + do some administrative tasks (like asking for firewall accesses).
    Current setup DMZ:
    Our SCCM 2012 R2 server is on a Windows 2008 R2 OS
    Client communication is done via HTTP (not HTTPS)
    An extra physical Distribution point is setup (only DP, nothing more) in our current domain
    A new Windows 2012 server is setup in the DMZ which should host the DP and probably management point (since it should manage the clients over there)
    There are clients in DMZ that are currenlty managed by SCCM 2007 but
    this server will be phased out, these client have:
    Correct sccm functionality
    Correct DNS resolution
    My steps/questions, please comment:
    Add the DMZ ip range to SCCM 2012 boundary as “DMZ”
    Add the network access account to be able to deploy as well clients as distribution point in DMZ
    In the DMZ accesses on firewall for server VLAN have to be asked
    When we have a distribution point and communication is “HTTP only” then http (port 80) from DMZ to sccm server should suffice, correct? Or are
     extra firewall openings needed for management point access/packages and windows updates sync?
    Now the sccm clients will be deployed to the servers in DMZ: deploy SCCM clients to hosts in DMZ, how this should be done: we connect a console to the SCCM-server in the DMZ then deploy the discovered clients?
    OS Deploy should be made available, but no dhcp is available in DMZ and it is not an option either, therefore we would boot from an ISO then enter an ip (or pre-enter it so there is already filled in an ip?). So tasksequences/deployments
    for servers in DMZ, where are they configured/deployed then? Via console access on DMZ management point or can we deploy on our domain SCCM management point (not in DMZ) and it will be synced to the DMZ management point? Not clear
    Selective sync of software to this distribution point (howto? not sure), we don’t need any Windows 8 software/drivers to be synced.
    Thanks for your input!

    No comment;
    I think you mean the client push installation account and the site system installation account;
    More ports are required, see site server > distribution point and distribution point > management point from the provided link;
    The console will always be connected to your primary site server. The client will be pushed from the primary site server and it will provide the initial files. The other files will be downloaded from the local distribution point;
    The task sequence deployment will be just like a normal taks sequence deployment. The only difference is the location of the server;
    Only the content that's distributed to the distribution point in the DMZ will be available on that distribution point.
