Why has gray palm tree shown up in Events with no photos

I have all currant updates for Mac & Iphoto but since the last update I know have several grau Palm tree folder on the Events screen with no photos. Several have just the date listed below the palm tree and several have actually been named. Have I lost pictures in the events? Where are they and why am I getting these event files with palm tree?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I keep losing entire events in iPhoto on my iMac.  Where an event was, there is a light gray event box displaying a dark gray palm tree and when I hover my cursor over the box, it shows 0 photos are there, where there were once photos.  I am operating a 27 inch iMac running OS X 10.9.4.  It has a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, and its memory is 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3.  Is there any way to retrieve the lost photos?

BAckup your iPhoto library, depress and hold the option and command keys while launching iPhoto until the first aid window comes up and repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • Why has my computer started skipping and acting choppy with Lion?

ever since i installed Lion my computer has slowed down. it is very choppy and freezes for a 10 seconds or so. ive never had this problem with any other operation system. also, did they change how to scroll with a mouse in Lion? up is down and down is up! weird!

the supported way will not void any warranty your computer has with apple. the unsupported way will void this warranty since this is a configuration that apple does not "support".
Having said all that, the unsupported amount of 6gb's is a tested amount by a trusted source. For me, I'm running on an unsupported amount of ram of 8gb's which works for me.
here are the specs that owc says. They have a number you can call and helpful videos for installation. This site is proof that you're still able to update the hardware of your mac to get the best performance out of it. Just my two cents.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo_PC2-6400
and of course apple will also sell and install ram too! make an appointment with a "genius" and they'll be able to set you up. This is where the supported and unsupported also would take effect. The apple specialist may or may not install the equivalent of 6gb on your machine, but will bump it up to 4gb, which is still good, just not 6gb.
    Hope this helps!

  • Why has my autocorrect volume become so loud, even with volume setting very low? Anyway to adjust?

Autocorrect volume is too loud; even with volume turned down,

    Hi,
One thing can help is the following.  Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.  Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.  Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.  Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.

  • Why has the texting "dictation" (microphone symbol) feature gone with the iOS 7 update?

I have noticed that the dication feature (microphone symbol) is no longer  avaiable with the iOS update on iphone 4S?  does anybody know why?

It is most definitely still available. Have you checked to make sure that Siri is still turned on? Settings>General>Siri? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

did the update to Maverick from OSX ML and boy has it slowed down my whole computer big time, what a mistake to have done this..... the whole computer has dramattically slowed, I thought Apple advertised be faster and slicker and better use of resources and I got 16gb Ram and 500gb HDD and 3.6 ghz processor, OSX Lion was snappier than this what a big mistake since this was installed.
Thanks god I did a disk image of the machine before I did it Ill go back and stay with OSX ML until Apple sorts problems I see many issues has risen and also Mail is playing up big time so who screwed that up?

Check your Activity Monitor to identify what might be slowing your system. Mavericks is as fast, if not faster, as Mountain Lion for me and I'm using a 2009 MacMini with 8 Gigs of RAM.

  • Why has the Google Toolbar and PageRank Tool disappeared with the newest version of Firefox. How do I restore the PageRank Indicator tool?

I downloaded the newest version of Firefox and now the Google Toolbar is not working the same. Most importantly the PageRank indicator is not present. I've tried re-installing the Google Toolbar, and I've made sure the PageRank tool is activated. But with the new version the PageRank tool does not appear anywhere. Also, my other add-on Toolbar, LastPass has disappeared well.

I installed the latest addon from here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/seo-status-pagerankalexa-toolb/
When I restarted Firefox 5.0 I then enabled the FILE, EDIT VIEW HISTORY etc bar. If you then then right click your mouse right next the the HELP button it brings up which tabs and toolbars you have enabled. Click on Customise. then find the SEO TOOLBAR in the list, and left mouse click on it and dont let go of the mouse click, drag it up to your customised toolbar area.
You will then see the SEO TOOLBAR icon in your customised toolbar. Click on this, and it will put the PAGERANK and ALEXA bars at the bottom right cornet of your firefox browsing window. Not sure if youll need to click that every time to get those 2 bars down there but at least this version works with Firefox 5.0
    Best of luck!

  • Why do I get "there was an error working with this photo"?

In LR 4.2, have begun seeing this error message when I apply a keyword to an image. When I move to an adjacent image and return to the original, the keyword shows it has been applied. I cannot see any problems with viewing or editing images but am concerned as I'm seeing this error message up to 10 times per day by rough count. So, in all it is appearing to be a nuisance but with no visible impacts.
Every time I exit LR, I backup the catalog with an integrity test and optimization. When I return, I see no problems with images that received the error when a keyword was applied.
Background: Have a catalog with over 14,700 images that for all other purposes runs fast and well. The images receiving the errors are TIFF scans of negative 4x5 sheet film. In the "active" part of the catalog, there are 519 images.
Have a Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.8 with all patches applied. LR 4.2, current version. Over 410 GB hard drive space available. Eight GB RAM on machine.
Have scanned Adobe Community and done a general Google search with no hits reporting this error message with no apparent other issues.
Appreciate learning I can ignore with confidence or advice on how to stop/avoid repetition.

  • Why are my tags not being uploaded to Flickr with my photos

Hi. I have just spent days tagging my photos with people, places, and other tags in PSE 11 organiser and have just tried my first upload to flickr with a handful of images. The photos transferred over fine but none of the tagging seems to be appearing against each image although I can see it in the EXIF info. What do I need to do to get the tags over in a usable format. There is no way I am manually re tagging, adding descriptions, captions etc all over again in Flickr. Help please!

    Hi Barbara,
Thanks for the reply. I have written everything to the file, I did this before I uploaded. I can see the info in Flickr but its dead EXIF data which can't be seen easy or searched on in Flickr. I have been onto Flickr and they insist it is a fault in Photoshop Elements.
If I upload the same photos with the Flickr uploaded everything goes over to Flickr fine. It just seems silly that PSE 11 has a share mechanism which does not integrate properly.
    Cheers,
    Lynn

  • Iphoto has greyed out events with 0 photos

Perhaps this is baby steps but I've got istream up and running on my macbook air.
At the moment I have pictures taken in November which have events that are greyed out and say 0 photos. When I click on them the photos appear but I don't know how to make sure that they are going to stay?  Have I exceeded the 30 day stream time but I these are in the last 1000 photos?  If so, what to do to bring them in permanently?
My next step is to break down my huge library on my old mac and bring it over here and pitch it. That library is more than 60GB so I will want to move the meta data and whatever labeling etc I have done on my old iphoto.   I tried file export but I lose the event clustering so I think I have to chop it up into little libraries and then move those over.  I don't have a need to merge libraries after that.
    Am I making sense?
    THANKS

  • Deleting Palm Tree Icon - Missing Photos

I searched for a bit here but didn't find an exact answer to my question, so I thought I'd post a "fix" for an oddity that I ran into.
I was recently using iPhoto (9.4.2) to edit some photos I had just imported on my iMac (OS X 10.8.2) and for some reason iPhoto crashed.  When I reopened it the photos I had imported were missing replaced by two palm tree icons showing zero photos in Events view.  Of course after importing I deleted them from my SD card - lesson learned.  Thankfully I was able to recover them from my SD card using Klix - phew!
Now I was left with the two palm tree icons in my Events view.  I tried deleting them, but no response.  However I found a way to easily get rid of them.
First I merged them to create one item, and then drug the icon to iPhoto's Trash file.  Done.
Hope this helps others that find themselves in the same boat.

I hope that any poor soul following this discussion reads this post and your's too:
The receommendation you provided was exactly what I was looking for (right click top parent folder, select 'find missing folder'). For reasons which I don't follow, but which were almost certainly my fault, this didn't work on my first catalog. I have now moved my second catalog, and the 'negatives' into the places I want for them. LR tells me that the hard drive containing my negatives is off-line; each folder is labelled with a question mark and your right click recommendation works perfectly - thanks.
As a result my second catalog is been set up in LR in about 2 minutes, compared to the 12 hours it took me for the previous catalog!
So my advice for those who are going to reconfigure their set-up is as follows:
    1. Back up your catalog and LR settings/preferences/presets/plug-ins etc (following Ms. Bampton's detailed advice to be found elsewhere in this forum - or Google it)
    2. Back up your negatives (preferably TWICE - on different hardware devices, dummy!)
    3. Complete your system re-install. (Huh; that's easy for you to say....)
    4. Re-install LR.
5.Decide where your catalogs should be (follow Scott Kelby's advice) and copy the .lrcat and .lrdata files to there.
    6. Decide where your negatives should be stored and restore your backups to that location.
    7. Open LR and point it at your chosen catalog
    8. In Library, open the parent folder where LR things your negatives are (assuming that they are now in a different place). The sub-folders will be prefaced with a question mark.
    9. Right click on each question marked sub-folder, choose the 'find missing folder' option, navigate to the new folder location and select the relevant folder.
    10. Repeat step 9 for all sub-folders.
    11. Back-up/optimise/tune the catalog. and you are now ready to revert to your normal work-flow

Why has my Apple USB SuperDrive suddenly stopped working with my MacBook Pro?
Normally I plug it in and insert a CD or DVD and it is immediately recognised, but today it took the DVD, made a 'whirring' noise for a few seconds and then stopped without being recognised.
