Why has iphoto created quadruples of my photos?

I have quads of some of my photos, I now have 21,000pics in my library. Is there an easier way to delete them?

Where are you seeing these duplicates?  In iPhoto itself or in the Finder?

  • Why does IPhoto  create duplicates of photos and graphics that is on my Mac when I import Photostream.  I started out with 4000 photos now I have almost 28,000.  I am using new Ipad and the Mac is  running Mountain Lion

Why does IPhoto create dupicates of photos and graphic that is on My Mac when I import the photos from Photo stream to the library?  I started out with about 4,000 photos when I transferred everything from my PC.  I use a new IPad and IPhone to take the photos.  The Mac is running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 3.1 Intel prosessor.  I am using IPhoto 11.
    Thanks in advance

there is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory

  • Why is iPhoto creating new copies of faces in my mother's photos?

My mother uses iPhoto to look at and edit her pictures.  She is getting very frustrated because it seems to be making new pictures of all the faces in her photos including a lot of faces she doesn't know or want (e.g., people gathered around tables at parties).  She's being overwhelmed with new copies of existing photos and these new face crops.  I've looked at the Preferences and can't find anything to turn off to stop this behavior (I don't use iPhoto myself because I don't like the behavior).
For that matter, I can't seem to find out why it's creating duplicates of pictures already in her Library.  To my knowledge, she's not Importing them again so there's no reason for these duplicates to keep cropping up.  She was using OS X 10.6.8 on her iMac but I've just upgraded her to Mavericks.

The faces are showing up in her iPhoto gallery.  To my knowledge, she hasn't done any importing and she definitely hasn't cropped or selected these faces for anything.  It seems to be creating pictures from any faces it finds in group photos but the faces are unnamed and not located in the Faces tab although they show up in the Photos tab.

  • Why is iphoto having trouble with rotating photos all of a sudden?

i've been using iphoto for a few years. suddenly it un-rotated all of my auto-rotated photos (which screwed up all of my face tags) and now when i upload new photos, if they auto-rotate during the upload they appear in the preview of a whole event, but if i double-click to see a vertical photo, or try to do a slideshow, i get the triangle with an exclamation point in it, indicating that something's wrong with the file. is anyone else having this trouble? or have any idea what to do?
    thanks...

I've never used the Flickr feature so don't know if that as any bearing on the problem.  if you're satisfied with the newly "fixed" library you can delete the copy of the original library that you made.
However, since you're having problems with rotated photos you might try this and see if the new library has the rotated photos displayed correctly:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
If the rotated photos display correctly in this new library then the problem lies with the orther libraries being damages somehow.  You may want to stay with the new library even though the projects, i.e. books, etc. and keywords are lost.
If you have a lot of keywords in your current library and want to move them to the new library you can by doing this:
1 - open the old library and select one photo.
2 - type Command+K to brinb up the keyword pane.
3  - click on all of the keywords that are not blue so that all of the keywords are blue.
4 - export that photo to the Desktop via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option. Select Kind=JPEG and check the two check boxes regarding keywords, locations, etc.
5 - open the new library with iPhoto and import the exported photo from the Desktop.  That will bring in all of the keywords so that you don't have to recereate them one by one in the new library.

  • Why does iPhoto create multiples when importing pictures?

    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    iPhoto version 9.6
I have a new MacBook and I am attempting to import pictures to iPhoto that were created by various devices - old digital cameras, scanners, iPhones.  The original images import without trouble, however iPhoto is creating an extra THREE pictures for each ONE that I import.  Please see the attached screenshot of my iPhoto after importing a few folders.  Take for example the Bowl for Kids folder - you will notice that the original folder has 20 pictures, and it is followed by an additional folder with 60 pictures.  The same situation is repeated for each folder.  The additional folders all share the same name - "d312a08daf7d..." and have EXACTLY three times as many pictures as the previous folder.  I have verified that the pictures contained within are indeed triplicates of the originals.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I did not import an existing iPhoto Library.
Starting with a completely empty Photo Library, I navigate to File > Import to Library and select a single folder (Bowl for Kids).  This folder has 20 photos in it, however iPhoto imports 80 (20 originals and 60 multiples, as evidenced by the screenshot).  I then repeated the process for the other two folders.
The photos shown in the screenshot were taken from various devices many years ago.  None of the above were taken on an iPhone.
The photos reside on my MacBook hard drive under Users > Worgowan > Documents > Pictures and Videos.  I chose to place them here to keep them separate from the native Pictures folder.
To answer an inevitable future question, here are some settings from my iPhoto Preferences.
    > iCloud > My Photo Stream (OFF)
    > iCloud > Photo Sharing (OFF)
    > Advanced > Importing: Copy Items to iPhoto Library (OFF)
    > Advanced > Edit Photos (In iPhoto)
    > Advanced > Use RAW when using external editor (OFF)
    > Advanced > Save edits as 16-bit TIFF files (OFF)
    > Advanced > Look up Places (NEVER)
    > Advanced > Include location information from published items (OFF)

  • Why has my new ipad stopped saving photos from Facebook?  Problem could have started when I downloaded the new OS.

Why has my new IPad stopped saving pictures from Facebook.  Worked originally and problem may have started when I downloaded OS 6.

You are correct that the behavior started when you installed iOS 6 - but as Chetan6518 explained - you now have to configure it in the settings.
Along with the suggestion above, there is also a Photos setting in Privacy and that gives access to approved apps for photos as well.
Last of all, make sure that you haven't set a photos restriction in Settings>General>Restrictions>Privacy>Photos

  • Why does iPhoto create subfolders for an album?

I have have about 20 albums in iPhoto, and I've never had an issue until recently. I created a new album, and have been dragging pictures into the album over the past 4 months or so (it's to update progress on the construction of our new house). When I drag photos into the original album, iPhoto creates a subfolder within the original album. The outcome is that I have 92 "untitled album"s within the original album. Worse, when I sync my phone and want to have this album on my phone, the original album doesn't show up on my list of albums, but the 92 untitled albums do. Is there a setting that I'm missing? This had never happened with the other 20 or so albums I have on iPhoto.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Why has iPhoto tripled my photo quantity?

one day I went to check out my photos and now there is 3 times each photo?
I cannot understand why or how this has happened?
Can anyone explain? And how do I get rid of the duplicates?

For anything other than a wild guess you need to provide more information
With no information except the number of photos tripling the best wild guess is that you imported an iPhoto library into another iPhoto library. NEVER do this

  • Why does iPhoto keep copies of deleted photos?

I recently purchased Photoshop Elements 10.  When I imported photos from iPhoto (about 15,000 images) into the PSE organizer, it imported a large number of photos that I had deleted from iPhoto, in some cases months ago.  When I searched in the iPhoto library, sure enough, there were saved masters of all the photos I had thought gone forever.
I understand perfectly well why iPhoto keeps masters of all the photos in the library, so that edits can be reverted etc.  That's not my question.  I want to know why it keeps masters of photos I deleted?  I deleted those pictures for a reason, and I wasn't happy when Photoshop imported all the old blurry shots, headless subjects and duplicates that I thought were long gone.
Is there any safe way to make iPhoto delete photos for real, as in no longer stored anywhere on the hard drive?  Would rebuilding the library do that?
Yes, I emptied the iPhoto trash bin.
No, I've never altered anything in the iPhoto library using Finder, and am very reluctant to allow any third-party software to do so.  Heard too many horror stories.
I'm currently using iPhoto '11, version 9.2.1, if it matters, but some of these deleted photos have been carried along through at least one major iPhoto update.
    Any help would be appreciated.

iPhoto 11 requires that you empty the iPhoto trash and the System Trash as well.
Other than that, this would be a symptom of a damaged database. Assuming this to be the case:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Why do iPhoto export slideshows have missing photos

    Hello Everyone
I am trying to export slideshows so I can burn to DVD later using iDVD.  But as i review my exported sideshow as a .mov file, it appears to have left out photos and is incomplete, it plays out the full music tracks but it simply is a white screen.  Very dissapointing after waiting so long for the export to complete.  This has occurred a few times.
    Please Help
    thanks

    1 - iPHoto is supported
2 - iPhoto can export slideshows
3 - if you want help you need to actually provide information - like what does happen - what error messages - anything else - simply saying "it does not work is not enough to have anyone help you solve your specific problem

  • Why has iphoto stopped importing from iphone

Up til now iPhoto has always opened automatically when I connect my iPhone to my computer and started importing photos. In the last week it has stopped.  I have looked at iPhoto preferences and iTunes preferences but can't find how to change settings.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

IMPORTANT READ THIS: disregard everything else i said about photostream because that is not your problem.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SIMPLY SIGNOUT OF MAC ACCOUNT AND SING BACK IN AND PLUG YOUR IPHONE AGAIN
once you have done this iphoto will pop up to import photos. the problem was that you probably quit out of iphoto when it was triying to import iphone photos once. If you do this, as long as your sighned in to your mac account, iphoto wont pop up, no matter how many times you plug your iphone nto the mac.

  • Why is iphoto trying to import imported photos

iPhoto wants to import photos that has already been imported. Is there any ways to rectify this attempt to duplicate imports?

That's a solution for a different issue that is often asked about here in very similar terms.
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Why has iPhoto deleted my latest events?

I recently upgraded my new current-model iMac to Mavericks and the latest iPhoto, then installed my existing iPhoto library, which was dutifully upgraded etc.
All seemed to be working well and I imported a large number of recent photos that were correctly indexed into new Events. However, now when I open iPhoto it won't show any Events since approximately 2010.
These photos are all visible when I click on Photos, and they are still correctly sorted into Events within the Photos view – so I know they are in the iPhoto database. However, they are not showing up as Events even though they did so when I previously imported them. iPhoto simply seems to have forgotten them, and forgotten other events added in the last three years for good measure.
Any tips on how I can fix this? Thanks!

Select one of the affected photos in Photos View and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show Event'
If the pics are in Photos view then they are also in Events view. Photos and Events are just two ways of looking at the same Library - different doors to exactly the same room. It can happen that Events are not where you expect them because the Sorting have changed (View Menu -> Sort Events) or the date on the camera is wring.
