Why has my Adobe PCD cache.db file size started growing suddenly

I am running CS4 Design Premium on an iMac which had OS X 10.6.2 until the 29th and now has 10.6.3.
On 19th March my Adobe PCD cache.db file size was just over 100Mb. Since then it has grown steadily until it is now over 19Gb in size.
Can anyone explain to me why it should suddenly have started growing please? During this time I have really only run Acrobat Pro; however I have had a lot of browser (Safari and FF) hangs/crashes due to Flash plugin issues.
I understand the cache.db also holds licence information so is it safe to delete this file? If so will I need to reenter my license information?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Phill

I have the same problem.
My pcd.db file is now 56 GB
What is going on !?!?!?

  • Adobe flash cache/temp files

    Hi,
Where is are the cache/temp files for adobe flash files? I
downloaded an game in SWF and have certain levels saved. When I
move the SWF to a new computer, I am unable to transfer those
levels and suspect that whenever I play the game, it is storing the
    files in temp/cache. Any advice?

most likely the Developer is using Shared Objects to remember
what the progress is.. search your computer for .sol and if it
returns anything, then that is the file you are looking for.. it
will need to be relative to the SWF if you move it around though,
making sure it is in the same spot as original, because that will
be how the SWF is looking for it.

  • Why has iTunes taken over the iPhoto file?  I can not attach pictures to files because I can not find them.  I can not upload pictures to software like Shutterfly for the same reason.

Why has iTunes taken over the iPhoto function?  I can not attach pictures to files because I can not find them.  This has happened suddenly as if there were some keystrokes that changed the previous pattern. I am not able to upload pictures to programs such as Shutterfly because I can not find them.  When I try to upload, the computer takes me to an iTunes folder.

    How are you uploading?

  • Adobe Bridge Reports Inaccurate File sizes

Im still in CS4 but can't seem to find a forum on CS4.  In any case, why does Bridge report inaccurate file sizes?  I thought I could use bridge to select all of the M2V files in a folder which I wanted to use in an Encore DVD project to get an accurate total file size.  That way I would know if all of the selected files would fit on a single DVD.  But Bridge doesn't report an accurate total file size of selected files.  What's up with that?  Is that too much to ask out of Bridge?

but where is the "activity bar"?  I don't see another total indicator of
    selected files anywhere.
Well I think we are talking about something you already discovered but there
seems not an official name for it I believe, I call it the activity bar, it
might also be called a status bar or status monitor, can't find the official
name for it at this moment.
Anyway It is at the bottom of the Bridge window left side. Click on a folder
and it tells you the number of items showed and items hidden (and here it
should also say the total amount of folder size but as said before, a long
standing feature request). Click on one or more files and it shows the
amount of selected files and the total size of the selected files.
When first opening a folder in the content window Bridge needs to cache the
thumbs and depending on settings also thumbnails. When caching you see in
this bar a spinning arrow showing it is still caching and also the amount of
files to cache that are left.
A very useful item in my workflow

  • Why Does Save As-PDF/A reduce file size when I don't want it to?

I scanned a 4-paged printed card with my Epson Perfection 4490 scanner in order to digitally archive it. Each page is about 5x7 inches, and I scanned at 100 percent. I scanned each page as an individual TIFF image file, at 600 samples per inch.
I brought each TIFF image file into Photoshop one at a time. I saved each TIFF as a JPEG, at Quality: 8, Baseline ("Standard").
Then, I brought the JPEG's into Adobe Acrobat Pro to create a 4-paged PDF. Initially, the file size of the saved 4-paged PDF was 5 MB. (Later, I determined the individual JPEG's add up to 5.2 MB.) When saving as PDF/A, the final format that I want to use, the file size was unexpectedly reduced from 5 MB to 2.5 MB.
What is the reason for the file size being reduced to 2.5 MB? I had already done the compression that I wanted in Photoshop. The PDF was not downsampled. I purposely did not use Optimizer.
I did a test. This time, in Photoshop, I compressed each TIFF to JPEG, at Quality: 5, Baseline ("Standard"), the Medium setting instead of the High setting. After bringing these JPEG's into Adobe Acrobat Pro, the saved 4-paged PDF was 2.8 MB in size, an expected smaller size. Saving as PDF/A produced a file of 2.6 MB in size, very close to the same size this time, possibly indicating it accepting the Medium quality level.
Apparently, saving as PDF/A reduces the quality level of JPEG's to Medium quality, when they are of higher quality to begin with. It seems to be designed to optimize even when I don't want it to.

Here's the Audit Space Usage for the original 5 MB file. It shows the images taking up the majority of the space, as expected:

  • Why does my iBook not have a file size on the iBookstore?

    Hi everyone,
I apologise if this has already been answered, however, I could not find an answer anywhere. Basically, I submitted a children's iBook (The Tale Of Blob-Ba-Cus) to the iBookstore in June. In the section on the iBookstore where is says author, publisher, category etc. there is no file size listed. My book was created with iBooks Author and I submitted it through iTunes Producer. I never came across a field in the metadata for file size. I just presumed maybe it would appear automatically once submitted. Did I miss something?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Jade.

  • Why has the opening of a Pagemaker file into InDesign CC been removed?

We receive many publications that have been produced by Pagemaker. We open and convert to InDesign for our publishing input.  InDesign CC has removed this feature which now means we will have to always keep InDesign 6 installed on our system.

Don't expect an official Adobe "answer" to this question. This is my opinion.
Anyone who has observed the graphic arts field the last decade or so has seen this coming. According to Wikipedia, "The last major release of PageMaker was 7.0 in 2001, after which the product was seen as "languishing on life support". Adobe ceased all development of PageMaker in 2004 and "strongly encouraged" users to migrate to InDesign, initially via special "InDesign PageMaker Edition" and "PageMaker Plug-in" versions that added PageMaker's data merge, bullet and numbering features to InDesign, and provided PageMaker-oriented help topics, complimentary Myriad Pro fonts and templates. From 2005 these features were bundled into InDesign CS2, which was offered at half-price to existing PageMaker customers."
With the arrival of InDesign CC, the entire application has to be re-written for 64 bit and, on the Mac, using a different set of system calls. The number of people who still use Pagemaker are minuscule, and it wasn't worth it to port the feature over. Since InDesign CS6 still supports importing Pagemaker files there is a route for the tiny number of people who need to feature.
I'm pretty sure that this will not change in the future so you should get used to it.

  • Adobe Media Encoder P2 File Size Too Big for Fat32

    Hi everyone,
I'm working on a project that has to be delivered on an actual P2 card.
I'm on a Mac running 10.9.1 using Media Encoder 7.2.2.29.
My final files are ProRes files and I dropped them into Media Encoder and selected the P2 AVC-Intra 100 1080 option. I set the destination to a local drive and everything seemed to encode properly. I have a CONTENTS folder and all the required subfolders and MXF files. The problem is, when I went to copy the folder to the actual P2 card, Finder told me that some of the files "can't be copied because [they are] too large for the volume's format." And, indeed, looking at several of the video files in the Finder, they seem to max out at 4.29GB (4,294,971,924 bytes), which is 4,629 bytes larger than the FAT-32 size limit.
I just now tried to encode directly to the P2 card and I got an error that was, ostensibly, a "Disk Full" error, but happened at right around where I would expect that 4GB limit to be.
Is this something others have encountered? Is there a setting I missed? According to the P2 workflow PDF here, the folder structure AME creates "can be exported directly to a connected P2 card, or it can be exported to a selected drive and the folders and files copied over to the card."
One possibility might be to split up the files into shorter videos, but I'm not sure how AME would handle ordering on the card.
    Thanks
    David

I wanted to mention, in case anybody else has this issue, installing and using Media Encoder CS6 produces P2 MXF files that are the proper size. I filed a bug report, hopefully Adobe can get the CC version fixed.

  • Why is Acrobat 9.4.4 multiplying file size when printing?

When I print pdfs using Acrobat 9.4.4, the documents increase in size exponentially and take a long time to print.  For example, a one page, 20kb file shows up in the printer queue as >1MB.  The bigger files turn huge and stall the printer.
I have the problem printing to an HP LaserJet 5P and with the HP OfficeJet 4315.  I am printing from a Dell Dimension 4300 running XP and plenty of RAM.
I have gone through all of Adobe's help topics. I've tried printing the file as an image.  I still have the problem.
    thanks,
    Ken

  • Why do re-downloaded purchases have different  file sizes ?

    Hi,
I re-downloaded my iTunes purchases again this year onto the same PC.
I was quite surprised that the filesizes were not exactly the same as the first time in 2013 - I would have expected a movie or TV programme to have a specific size.
What is causing that difference between my original 2013 downloads and my 2014 downloads of exactly the same files?
As an example, I have highlighted a file in the Homeland series, season one. But you can see the differences  is on every file comparing 2013 and 2014, and the same is true for my movies.
Hope someone has asked this before, or does actually know!
    Flobbyblob

    Hi dymar,
Copying to another Drive is understandable, they may have a differentnumber of Blocks allocated per file, for insnce a one Byte file might take up 512 bytes, 1024 Bytes, etc, but a Get info should show the actual size of the file within that/those blocks.
If copying to another Format, like MS-DOS, Forks may be lost also.
There are ways to actually Compare the files...
