Why has my iMac suddenly become very slow in waking up

Have not installed any new software recently but have just changed my ISP, suddenly my iMac takes nearly a minute to 'wake up' Mountain Lion installed when it first became available and it was fine after that. When it does wake up it is fine, not slow, and opens apps just as quick as before.

Hi:
As I said, there are literally thousands of messages - most relate to specific configurations.
When those messages appear, does quite a bit of time elapse?
I Googled "ACE."  The only possibly relevant thing I could find is a description of Cisco networking software....

  • Why has my ipad suddenly become ridiculously slow?

I only have about 8 apps, no music, pics or video. I double checked and still have about 80% free disc space. This change in speed happened suddenly. I have tried resetting by holding the two buttons for several seconds until the apple appears. That seems to sometimes fix the slowness for a few minutes, but then the problem starts again.

Have you checked to see what apps are in the background?  Double click the home button and you will see a line of apps.  Some are not running and there for quick reopen, some are sleeping, some are running in the background and using resources.  To clear, hold one of them until they all start to wiggle and have a minus in a red circle.  Tap each minus and that app will disappear.  Remove all of them and see what your performance is.
If you then open an app and performance degrades, you know the culprit.

  • My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." Why? How can I fix this?

My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." How do I fix this and what is causing the problem? Even the mouse wakes very slowly.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
    1. Quit all app scompletely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • IMac has suddenly become very slow doing everything?

My iMac has suddenly become very slow -at present it is useless and will have to take to apple unless you can help.?

First, make sure you have adequate backups. If your hard disk is failing this could be a sign. It can be replaced if necessary, but a backup strategy is recommended whether or not you are experiencing problems.
Read: OS X Mountain Lion: If your Mac runs slowly. It applies to Lion as well. The article is very cursory, but be sure to read through to the end. Unfortunately the link there is broken, so use this one: Disk Utility. To do this you must start your Mac from the Recovery System or Internet Recovery.
Rather than ask a dozen questions for more details about your system consider the following. You must be running either Lion or Mountain Lion. Including your version of OS X in your system description would help.
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply. Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or "failed".
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.

My Macbook Pro purchased Dec 2011 has suddenly become very slow after not using for 2 weeks (close to frozen). What is the problem and how to solve it?

    Need Help Ye,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Is it still very slow?

  • Aperture suddenly becomes very slow opening library

    Hi.
I've got only 100 or so photos, and Aperture suddenly becomes very slow, it take a couple of minutes now to open the library.
Just before this started to happen, I got a very short massage, saying something like, "It's repairing some files."
I wonder if there are some corrupt files there, causing very slow opening the program.
Is there any way to check this and fix this problem?
    I'm using 3.4.3, and OS 10.8.3.
    I appreciate your help.
    Hiro

I'm surprised nobody has responded to this yet. Hopefully you have already figured it out, but if you double click on the aperture library while holding down the option and command keys, Aperture will bring up a dialog that gives you three options for dealing with potential library issues: repair permissions, repair the library or rebuild the library. You should try them in that order, and it is a good idea to back up your library first (especially before rebuilding the library).
    Hope this helps.

  • Why has my network suddenly become unavailable to bluetooth?

why has my network suddenly become unavailable to bluetooth?

I'm not sure that I fully understand 'tethering' other than linking to a 'master'. Nor do I quite know how to answer what I was doing when connecting--I have been trying to connect for some 8 hours now, trying multiple ways around the problem. I guess my main problem is I don't actually understand the technical action underpinning a connection. So I try narrowing down the options and then restoring each action.
I have been trying to work out where the network failure exists--in my laptop or in my iphone. I have gone back through apps, and whether these were connected through iTunes or not.
I haven't tried connecting my phone to a printer or an iPod. I only mention them because my lap top is also failing now to pair with my iPod, and I wondered whether the fault is from my laptop's network connection, rather than my iphone's network connection.
My laptop  wireless connection with my printer has not been disturbed despite the network being unavailable. -- I only mentioned that as an indication that whatever the 'network' was that was unavailable, it was not the network connecting my laptop and printer.
I am grateful for your interest.

  • Why has my iMac started to be slow logging on

Why has my iMac started to be slow when first logging on, is it anything to do with me upgrading to Mavericks from 10.7, and is there any way it can be rectified?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

    Any thing else to do?

    Hey Tafaya,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing performance issues with your MacBook Pro. The following resource may provide a solution, while it is titled for OS X Mavericks - the same steps apply for Yosemite:

  • My iMac suddenly runs very slow and freezes frequently.  Ideas?

My iMac has started running very, very slow and then suddenly freezes and we have to reboot.  I have no idea how to fix that....

    Charly,
That's not much info to go on.  Sorry you are having a problem.....
I can suggest a couple of things....
    Go to "Applications>Utilities>DiskUtility"
..... run "First Aid" as shown in red boxes below....
This just might help... at least it is a start.....
I routinely use a little clean/maintenance utility called "OnyX" it performs lots of good house keeping stuff...
If this dosen't help you are going to have to ask someone smarter that I am......Again, it is a starting point at least.........
    Good luck......

  • LR4b1 suddenly becomes very slow and multiplies "Bezel" windows

Usually it happens after lens distortions correction. Each next adjustment takes up to a minute to update. And it constantly shows and hides two additional windows called “Bezel”, one with video controls and one with a current shot info.
I have no video in catalog.
    Windows7 sp1 x64, Core it-920, 12 Gb RAM
    P. S. I hoped the first task for a next version would be its speed, not new functions, least of all it had to be video. It would be fine, if it was shipped as an optional plugin.

I have just downloaded LR4B1 for the first time and all Develop adjustments are very slow from outset. Opened LR3 and operation is smooth and instant.

  • My iMac suddenly became very slow

Hi everybody, I have seen some previous posts about more or less the same subject, nevertheless I ask for help because I am not sure I can try to apply some suggestions to my case.
Well, I own a late 2007 20" Intel iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo), with 4Gb RAM and the default 320 Gb hard disk. It has been regularly upgraded, operating system-wise, and now it runs with Mountain Lion (intalled from scratch).
I don't do so much work with the iMac, the most used applications being Safari and Chrome for internet surfing, and Thunderbird for the email. I also use iPhoto for pictures loading and storing.
It happened very seldom so far that the computer hung during the startup (remaining in the grey screen), requesting a strong power off action.
A couple of days ago a sudden electrical power shutdown during a thunderstorm acted on the iMac, too.
Yesterday the iMac started sporting the rolling beach ball most of the time. Even if there only the Finder working, the ball appears and stays there.
I started the iMac from the restore partition, launching the "verify disk" and "verify permissions" tasks via Disk Utility on the internal HD: the result was "disk OK" and a very few repaired permissions. But then the problem rose again.
It is very hard, in such condition, to try to execute utilities like Onyx or system funcions like Spotlight, or even launch the Activities Monitor. What I can say is neither the CPU nor the memory seemed to be heavily affected by the computer activity.
I could to a last Time Machine backup, so no data was lost so far, but since yesterday evening the ball is rolling and nothing happend to the computer.
Please note that while I was trying to find out what the problem could be, it also happened that the screen started switching alternatively from the desktop background picture to the startup grey screen. Then is stopped blinking this way.
I sincerely don't know how I can try to better find out what the problem could be. Any suggestions? I tried to be as detailed as possibile, but if more information is needed, I am ready to supply it.
Thank you very much in advance to everybody.
    Giovanni

I whall try with the operations you sugget.
In the meantime the iMac apparentely started working fine again .
I was able to run the hardware test using the program provided with the original iMac DVD's, and it reported the following error:
    4MOT/1/40000003:HDD
From what I could see on the Internet, it should be related to the HDD fan not workinf properly and therefore having the HDD temperature rise, but someone also states it could be the RAM memory.
I'll try to check it more tonight.

  • Why has my Mac mini become so slow?

I realise this sounds like the oldest newbie question in the book, and could be down to any of a hundred things, but I'll try and explain as clearly as possible. (I've been using Windows for 15+ years, Macs for the last 2+, and I always associated Windows with this kind of gradually increasing lethargy.)
In a word, it comes down to lag. Every operation which used to be instant when the Mac was new, now has a delay of anything from half a second to over 10 seconds. It feels like walking in mud. And it's always the first time I do something I haven't done for a few minutes -- if I repeat the same operation immediately afterwards, it's instant. Long delays are often (but not always) accompanied by the beachball -- which I see *a lot*.
What sort of operations? Well, dropping down a menu, for example. Or changing volume. (Using the keyboard or Apple remote.) Or switching between open apps. It's not unusual for me to wait over 10 seconds for the computer to respond, for something as simple as a volume change. If I repeat it, it's instant. But if I wait a few minutes, or switch to a different app, the lag's there again.
The mini is 2 years old. It's a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo with 512MB RAM, with wireless keyboard and mouse. About 2 months ago, I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, using the Archive & Erase method. It's permanently connected to an external 1TB firewire drive. I have MenuMeters installed, which rarely shows over 10% usage per CPU, including during the slowdowns. (If I'm ripping a DVD with Handbrake, it goes to 100%, so I'm not surprised if it's slightly unresponsive then.) In trying to speed things up, I've set MenuMeters to only display CPU, updating every 3 seconds, but it hasn't made a difference. I don't have a lot else installed on the mini -- it's mainly a media player. During a typical day it runs Firefox, Quicktime with Perian, DVD Player, Front Row, and iTunes. (iTunes is so sluggish I avoid using it when I can.) The only memory resident apps are Vine Server and Audioscrobbler.
Does this sound familiar? Any suggestions? I'll supply a System Profile file if that'll help.
    francois

Unlike most Windows PCs, Macs have always seemed to be a little fussy about RAM, so in the broadest sense, the answer to your question whether you can use any brand of RAM (compatible specs of course), is that no, you can't. Nor is it always possible to say what brands are suitable and which are not. Better, really, to buy RAM for Macs from suppliers who have a history of Mac support (thus are aware of compatibility issues) and who offer a lifetime, no quibble, warranty, such that if the RAM doesn't work, or fails in service later, it can be swapped out without any hassle or additional cost. Crucial.com (the link I provided previously) is one such.
As far as fitting it, it is always better to have an approved service provider do it in that if there are any problems, they can be held accountable, and if there is any warranty cover, they will not risk voiding it. Each will charge a different amount for this kind of work however, so it's worth shopping around for prices for upgrading RAM - including the cost of the service provider also providing the RAM, since some can source compatible modules at wholesale.
