Why has T'bird has started 'not responding' intermittently for no apparent reason?

This seems to associate with messages that T'bird is downloading messages from several different folders.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    you see what is running on your computer (because CPU usage is what makes the procesor(s) get hot) by opening the application "Activity Monitor" in the folder "/Applications/Utilities", then select the "CPU" tab (at the bottom) and sort the information in the top section by "%CPU":
    This will show you what application is using the most CPU time and is the most likely candidate for why your machine is warming up.  You can also quit all applications, then reboot to see if that resolves the problem.

    please try to uninstall the adobe flash plugin from the windows control panel. afterwards manually delete any leftover files in ''C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash'' and download & install the plugin again (uncheck the option to install the bundled security software): www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

    Things were going well. Mail was working fine and then the following error message appears out of nowhere. I had not changed any settings. From that point on all efforts to send mail failed, and the error message appeared even thought I used the password to log back in after I quit. Now, an hour after the problem started it takes my password (on the second try after the error message appears) once and sends a test message. Then, one minute later it gives the error message again and refuses to send anything. Why is mail so inconsistent? What can I do in the future to address the problem?
    Error message reads "The SMTP server "xxxxx" rejected the password for user "xxx" Please re-enter your password or cancel.
    When mail does work again. Should I click the remember this password in keychain or am I just asking for more trouble?
    I'm writing this using my IMac computer in a different room. The error also occurs on my powerbook running my new MacBook Pro 12 inch.

    I"m no expert but this used to happen to me all the time (stop downloading, asking for my password, nothing downloading, walking away- 24 hours or more later, all is fine, only to later start all over again)
    Well, i gave up for a long time and stopped using that account with mac mail and only accessed it online..recently went and changed the pop3 to only pop and now it works beautifully and seamlessly. Don't ask me why or how, but it does so thought I'd share.

    The "missing file" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
    Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then say no when asked to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. I can provide a step by step guide if you give me the two paths.
    In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps and locate the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links. Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

  • WRT160NL NAS error why has linksys not fixed it yet?

    Every once in a while, my linksys router keeps locking up on the "storage" page. It will do so until I disconnect my hd from the router, plug it into a computer, and delete the twonky information.  I'm waiting on the next firmware patch to come out as I've already talked to customer support. 
    Why has Linksys not fixed this yet and what are they waiting for? There's a ton of problems in the WRT160NL that need correction!

    What is the Model no of the HDD you are using.Check this link for the compatible HDD for WRT160NL....Try to hard-reset the router for 1 minute,power cycle the router and reconfigure it from the scratch.

  • AP has been crashing and has been "Not Responding"

    I can't believe this! Ever since I chose to do the most recent update (2.1.3?), AP has been crashing and has been "Not Responding" and I almost Force Quit before it before it came back to life.
    First I imported from an existing folder (using referenced) and I chose to "Move" the images.... well the images were copied NOT moved... So, I wanted to try it again with a different destination and see if I could get them moved and not copied....
    I was importing a "Folder as a Project" (this time) and I chose to move the images (allowing duplicates to be present) to the newly defined location (less than 300 pics) and AP ended up crashing and now I see there are more than 9,000 images in that folder... Wow, what a royal MESS!!!!!!!
    How can I undo this monstrosity mess that AP has created.....???????????????
    I was very careful as I did this.... what could have caused this and how can I fix it??????

  • I cannot hear callers unless using speakerphone. the phone is not on mute, the problem has started for no apparent reason and rebooting has not resolved the problem. Any ideas?

The caller can hear me, but unless I switch to speakerphone, I cannot hear them. The mute button still functions normally. I have rebooted the phone but this has not resolved the issue.     I understand that you are unable to hear callers though the receiver on your iPhone 4 unless you change the sound to the speaker. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the attached article and verifying that the troubleshooting steps have been completed. If the issue continues, it may be necessary to follow the link towards the bottom of the article and contact Apple Support.
