Why has windows vista home premium disappeared from my computer

I have an hp a6511.uk which I have had for 4 years, it came with windows vista home premium, I did download service pack 2 last year. 2 days ago a window appeared on my screen asking me to activate windows as the copy I had was illegal. I duly entered the correct product key. it was confirmed that my windows was now legal but since all I have is a blank screen. I cannot find microsoft works or anything to do with vista, windows defender will not download, The initial screen comes on as usual & I have my usual shortcuts on screen but that is all. I have tried all forms of recovery but to no avail I feel my only solution is to install the back up cd I made when I first had the computer but I am afraid I may lose some of the software I have installed, has anyone had a similar experience, I have bullguard security.
This question was solved.

Hi there Student.  I also use Vista on my HP touchsmart PC at home.  I checked into the Microsoft forum to find some info about the "disappearing nature of your Vista Home premium" iCons and solutions.  If you google your problem statement, you'll see that this is not a new phenomonon.  Microsoft forum also has a paper with some fixit tools.  I've used such fixit solutions on my Vista PC and they actually work great!  Give this a go and let me know how it turns out!  Wishing you all the best with your a6511.uk PC...JWag

  • Which version of PhotoShop Elements should I buy for Windows Vista Home Premium and from what source?

First time buying PhotoShop.  I need it for a project I'm involved with at my school, but I can't download Creative Cloud or PhotoShop Elements 13 because Vista is not supported by Adobe.  However, I find it easier to find a version more fit for my computer rather than upgrade it (I'll just be brief, it's not convenient AT THIS TIME for me to attempt to upgrade my PC, even if many believe it'd be better for me).
I was just planning on looking on Amazon for PhotoShop Elements PC boxes available and going with whatever version 11 or below that was at a good price.  Is this a good way to go or is there something special about purchasing CD's to download I need to be aware of?  Is buying from a source like Amazon rather than straight from Adobe putting me at risk for a phony version of PhotoShop Elements (though I was looking to buy a "new" box to avoid this if I can find some)?
I'm having trouble finding WHERE Adobe sells its products from its own website rather than Creative Cloud right now.  A link would very much be appreciated if such a place exists.  Thank you.

You can download a free trial version for PSE 10, 11 or 12 from this link:
    <Download Photoshop Elements products | 13, 12, 11, 10>
You can use this trial version for 30 days after which you will need to buy a boxed version from Amazon and use the serial number from the box to activate your trial version.
If, however, you complete your project in the next 30 days then you don't need to buy anything.  Money saved for something else.
    Good luck.

  • Installation of Oracle 10g XE in Windows Vista home premium

    Hi,
I tried to install oracle 10g XE(express edition) in my laptop which has Windows Vista home premium 32 bit.But when i start database it is showing me error
    C:\oracleexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleXETNSListener
    System error 5 has occured
    Access is denied
    C:\oracleexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleServiceXE
    System error 5 has occured
    Access is denied
CAn anyone please help me out with this issue.

I didn't realize Vista Home Premium wasn't supported, so I went ahead and installed Oracle 10g R2 standard edition and then personal edition on 64-bit Vista Home Premium. The only problem I've had is that the DB Console doesn't work, which is why I came to this forum and thread. All I get is a blank page with a few chicken scratches, but everything else has been working so far. I've had to revert to command line SQL Plus, and I just imported a couple million rows from an export done on a Solaris server, so go figure. Obviously I'm not using it for a production database, but for my purposes so far it's done OK.

  • I have windows vista home premium and all other versions of iTunes worked on my laptop iTunes 10 won't work, I get a message saying I'm not connected to the Internet when I am. Why isn't iTunes recognizing my browser configuration?

I have windows vista home premium and all other iTunes worked on my laptop, I downloaded iTunes 10 and now the iTunes will not connect to the Internet. I use Mozilla firefox on my laptop and for some reason it keeps saying the connection timed out and I'm not connected to the Internet when I am. Why isn't iTunes recognizing my web configuration?

It probably has to do with your security and/or browser configuration.
When my laptop crashed last year and I had to get a new one, I dealt with the same thing. First, go to your control panel and select the security section. See if your firewalls are up or not. If they are, turn them off. If you have any software to speed up your browser, that can affect the connection as well. Go into that software and disble/turn it off. If this doesn't work, contact customer support. They have a few other tricks they had me try that worked, but I can't remember them now.

  • Windows Vista home premium has reverted to old format - how can i fix this?

On Tuesday I turned on my laptop to discover that windows vista home premium had reverted to the old style. I'm using a Toshiba laptop (Satellite). The toolbars are now grey and the circular start logo has been replaced with the old rectangle, the dialogue
    boxes are old style too.
I was prompted to install the service pack 2 which I did smoothly but no change and then today I was prompted to install a further 59 updates which I did and after restarting my laptop still no change.
I've ran a virus check and no threats were found. I've also deleted some stuff off my laptop and tried to clear it out but no change.
I'm not very technicallly minded but would really like this fixed. Any suggestions?

You mean the ones like Windows 2000, where windows and dialog boxes have grey backgrounds and dark blue colour in titlebar?
If yes, somehow the Windows theme might have been switched to Windows Classic.
Right-click an empty area on the Desktop > Personalize. Now select Theme under Personalization. In the
Theme Settings window, select "Windows Vista" theme from the dropdown. Click OK to apply the theme.

  • Tx2120us, upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I wonder if there's anyone out there who has managed to sucessfully upgrade his/her HP tx2120us tablet PC from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate or to do a fresh Windows 7 ultimate install on a HP tx2120us tablet PC.
I purchased a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit edition AND a 320GB 7200rpm hard drive and started a fresh Windows 7 installation. After the installation was done, the network adapters fixed and wireless were working. I also managed to install the Audio drivers for the built in realtek audio adapter. Even the touchpad, touchscreen and pen seem to work but then I stopped after several attempts to install a suitable display driver for the NVIDIA G-Force video adapter. The resolution with my Vista OS is 1280 x 800 but the default Windows 7 OS only provides a generic 1064 x 768 resolution and not any download from HP could install a suitable NVIDIA driver for Windows 7.
As I stopped there I don't even know if there is a driver for the card reader or the Light Scribe DVD burner and whatever is buit in into this tx2120us.
I'd really very much appreciate if someone who had succeeded with the installation of Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on the tx2120us could provide me with working drivers or the links to them.
    thanks

  • AppleMobileDeviceHelper has stopped working - Windows Vista Home Premium 64

I have iTunes 9.0.1 on my Acer AX1700-U3700A running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit version. In case it matters I am using McAfee.
I can connect my iPhone 3G to my computer and iTunes finds it. But whenever I "right click" on the iPhone icon I get the dreaded "AppleMobileDeviceHelper has stopped working". I've followed Apple's uninstall and reinstall instructions twice to no avail. When I try "repairing" AppleMobileDeviceHelper I am told that I don't have the .msi file to repair it from.
I've tried the "Run iTunes as an Administrator" option but I get the same result.
I see some people recommend deleting the AppleMobileDeviceHelper binary altogether but want to make sure I'll be able to still sync my and my wife's iPhones and iPods.
Does Apple had a fix for this?
Is there some settings I need to change in McAfee? I've confirmed that iTunes has "Full Access" through McAfee (I'm only including this as in some other threads some pointed toward their anti-virus applications as part of the trouble.)
    Thanks in Advance,

  • Tx2517ca From Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Professional 32-bit

    Hi Everyone,
I have a very specific question. I currently am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, but I want to use Windows 7. However, I want to use Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (rather than Windows 7 Home Premium) and understand that this will require a clean install.
Before I purchase Windows 7 Professional, I want to make sure that this can be done correctly. Does anyone know if this is possible or have already done this?
I have downloaded and ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor which told me that I would be able to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate, but it does not mention Windows 7 Professional at all. I'm assuming this is because it would require a clean install.
    Thanks for your time,
    Lauren

thanks ... I see now from your other post that you're probably getting either a "missing QuickTime.msi" message or being told that a "newer version of QuickTime" is installed when you try to go ahead and uninstall QuickTime after you're told about the Key?
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

    Hello janemacq,
If you are getting an error about a component of the Apple software not working on your Windows machine, you may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the Apple software, as outlined in the following article:

  • Starting iTunes from a Desktop shortcut in Windows Vista Home Premium

Is anyone else having problems starting iTunes in Windows Vista Home Premium?
I have to attempt several times to get iTunes to start - using the Desktop shortcut, the listing in the start list and even the listing in the 'All Programs' list.
Once again I am compelled/induced to make a complaint about the effectiveness of iTunes 'Support' ... but I could be just a little redundant - after all how can one complain about something that does not exist???

    please, help me..
this has been bugging me for so long because i cant put new music on my ipod

  • I can't synchronize my iPod's with my iTunes software (Windows Vista Home Premium) due to problems with the access authorization / rights for this operation

    Hi there,
I'd like to ask you something:
I'm trying to synchronize all my iPod's (I have as many as 4 iPods: 2 iPod touch a 8 GB each and 2 iPod classic a 160 GB each) with my iTunes software (Version 11.3.1 which is installed on a Windows PC (Windows Vista Home Premium)). Unfortunately, the iTunes software refuses to run the command "synchronize with the iPod connected" regarding each and every iPod I have. iTunes just declares:
Synchronizing is impossible because I wouldn't hold the access authorization / rights for this operation.
I uploaded the songs at issue to my iTunes folder from CD's (all songs are in AAC format now).
What is this access authorization, why was something like that invented and what can I do to get it?
How do I have to proceed in detail?
    What would it cost?
I am brand new here and have never ever made a post in any support community anywhere in the world in my life. Well, and I am not excessively knowledgeable about the particular computer or mac language but I know the very basics or can find out about them.
Anyways - can you help me please?
If you can't help me, who can do so?
It would be nice if you could answer me as soon as possible!
    Thank you guys
    Prying Pedro

Yes, others have experienced the problem, a simple search of the forums would have revealed that and the simple solution.
Termporarily disable any security software on the computer.
