Why has Yahoo! installed itself as default search engine behind Firefox 'front page' and how do I turn it off?

Yahoo search engine seems to have imposed itself as default search engine whenever I open a new tab or use the small search pane on top right of screen. Is this a Firefox default setting and, if not, how can I switch it off?

Yahoo has taken over my search engine also. so far I have removed the Yahoo choice from Manage Search Engines. I have Google as the first choice but it still opens in Yahoo.
As the screen shot shows ....you can clearly see that Google was my choice but it came up on Yahoo.

  • Why does iPhone automatically enter my entire email address when I simply type "gmail" and how to I turn it off?

Why does my iPhone automatically enter my entire email address when I simply type "gmail" and how to I turn it off?  It also does it whenever I type it in Safari (but not Chrome) and it only does it with one of my email addresses and not any of my other ones (i.e., yahoo, hotmail, etc.).
Thanks so much for your help!

I don't see visible underscores in that login form, but they appear to be entered (that form isn't high enough to show them for me).
You can verify that in the Scratchpad and use Execute > Display after pasting the below posted code.

  • Why when im streaming my songs for my library on my apple tv does it censor the songs and how do i turn it off?

Why when im streaming my songs for my library on my apple tv does it censor the songs and how do i turn it off?

I use iTunes Match, and I notice that when I play "matched" versions of 2Pac's "I Ain't Mad at Cha", all of the curse words are skipped over. Just to make sure it wasn't my copy of the track, I played it off of my permanent library, and the song plays properly. So I believe that Apple has seen fit to censor the song. I haven't read about this anywhere, but I'm pretty upset about it. I own the track -- I have a copy of 2Pac's Greatest Hits, which I ripped. If I turn off iTunes Match and transfer the song to my mobile devices with a USB cable, I could play it the way I want to hear it. I think iTunes Match is a fantastic concept, but I don't need Apple deciding what kinds of music I should or shouldn't be listening to.
Incidentally, I haven't noticed other tracks with curse words censored. It may be that I loaded them onto my mobile device before Apple began censoring.

  • WHY CAN I NOT EDIT THE DEFAULT SEARCH ENGINE USED BY THE ADDRESS BAR (NOT THE SEARCH BAR NEXT TO IT) FROM BING TO GOOGLE?

I am asking this question again, because upon checking the forum for a solution I was shocked and appalled by the severe lack of grammar, punctuation and spelling I encountered while reading answers to this question. Obviously several people where to busy to actually read the question being asked and simply answered with instructions on how to change the default search engine for the search bar. SO, here I am asking the same question, why? because it still has not been answered and I myself still CANNOT find this setting anywhere. I use multiple browsers for different tasks, Chrome is KICKING the .... out of you guys Mozilla, why did you ever let your self get taken in by Micro-crack (Microsoft), if I recall correctly the inception of this program was partly motivated by the need for an alternative to the idiosyncrasies and vulnerability of Microsoft Internet Explore. This really feels like a HUGE step backwards, I would love to see a return to the days when Mozilla Firefox was and inspiration to developers and techs everywhere. And please will someone just answer the right question this time. Trust me when I say it will be obvious who does and does not read this in it's entirety.

HAHA! I have solved it! Ok here is the URL for Google, as mentioned above by bram:
    "Go to About:config
    Search for keyword.URL
Double click the Value entry field, and change it to the search engine you prefer"
Enter this URL for the string value

  • With latest download, I specifically excluded yahoo as default search engine. It loaded anyway and I can not get rid of it and restore Google as default search engine

I had Google as default search engine. Now, Yahoo shows up and even when I delete it, close firefox 8.0, restart it, Yahoo again rears its ugly head. Nothing seems to fix this. Any program I install that is tied in to Yahoo, I specifically exclude the installation of the Yahoo tool bar. How do I get rid of it once and for all?

    1. Use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
        http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once done, quit AdwareMedic by clicking AdwareMedic in the menu bar and selecting
        “Quit AdwareMedic”.
    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari to test .
Turn those on one by one and test.
    3. Safari > Preferences >  Search > Search Engine :
        Select your preferred   search engine.
    4. Safari > Preferences > General > Homepage:

  • How do I set Google as the default search engine in Firefox 5? I have tried several fixes but I keep getting a Yahoo search instead of Google.

I want to use Google as my search engine but no matter what settings I change the default search engine is always Yahoo.

  • How to set default search engine in Firefox for Android?

Hi. I want to set a non-Google search engine as the default in Firefox on Android. I have installed the search engine as an add-on and it is working fine, but I would like to use it as the default search, rather than having to select it each time.
Couldn't find the answer on here or anywhere else.
Please note this only relates to Android.
    Thanks!

hello eggzzz, are you updated to the latest version? this should now be possible in firefox 23 for android in the addons manager:

  • I tried to use Duck Duck Go as my default search engine for Firefox. I had google set as my default search engine. How do I fix it. Cant use about:config.

Duck Duck go won't even let me access About:config. It's like I am locked into Duck Duck go. I checked my add on manager and found nothing about Duck Duck Go there. I ran a scan on Malwarebytes Pro for any kind of virus and found nothing. I really want google as my default search engine. So far I managed to get Firefox as my main search engine. Any help would be appreciated.

What do you mean that it won't let you access the <b>about:config</b> page?
Can't you open the about:config page via the location bar or can't you modify prefs?
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

  • My voicemail is being converted to text why and how do i turn it off

Hi My iphone 4 has started to convert my voicemail messages to text...how do i turn this off please!

Cool. If you figure out how to turn that on, let us know...
Where, exactly, are you seeing the text voice messages? In Voice mail? E-Mail? Text messages?
Can't figure out how this could possibly happen unless you're actually looking at the Google Voice app and messages coming into that, not your carrier voice mail.

  • Firfox 4 seems to have Yahoo! as the default search engine and won't let me change this to Google or any other. Is this a flaw in the system??

What more info do you need? I just can't get Firefox 4 to let me change my search engine to Google and there's nowhere in the tools menu to help.
Also, Firefox is a lot slower to load than, say Safari or Chrome. Do you have a good excuse for this??

  • How do i change my default search engine in firefox 4?

At present my search engine is powered by babylon ..it got installed with some download manager.

    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''

    * Go to File | Exit
    * Restart Firefox, go to the site you want to set as your homepage.
    * Go to '''Tools '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.

    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.

  • A video has popped up on my start page and I can't turn it off or stop it from replaying.

My start page is the basic firefox page. Just today (11/18/14), a video popped up about the internet. I watched it, but it keeps replaying and I can't find a way to turn it off. FYI, I don't tweet or use facebook, so if I'm supposed to vote or go there, I can't.

The easiest way to get around that is to just set your own homepage.
See - [[How to set the home page]]
Many of us have disabled the changes to the top part ''[brandLogo portion]'' of the Firefox Start Page, so that we don't see that "stuff".
If you feel venturesome, here's how to "fix it".
Type '''about:config''' in the Location Bar and hit Enter. Accept the "dragons" message to see the advanced prefs screen. ''Use the Search field at the top to enter the pref mentioned below.''
You can set the <b>browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl</b> pref to an empty string to stop your Firefox from retrieving "snippets" and brandLogo changes. Right-click that pref and select '''''Modify''''' then clear the Value for that pref in the box that appears, then click OK. ''That will also disable the "snippets" that appear below the Search container on the default homepage.''
Then you need to open your Profile folder, via Help > Troubeshooting Information > Profile folder >> Show Folder ''button''. Then close Firefox.
With your Profile folder open and Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit), wait minute or so, then delete the <b>storage\moz-safe-about+home</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder to remove the brandLogo and snippets stored in IndexedDB to make Firefox use the default brandLogo and a default snippet set.
If you should later changes your mind about those modifications, you can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu and use Reset to get the default value back and start using the '''''storage\moz-safe-about+home''' folder again.

  • Firefox crashes when I try to search for something using the Google or MSN search engines, but not with other search engines. What causes this and how can i fix this?

I type something into the Google or MSN search engine and as soon as I hit search, Firefox crashes. Hotmail still works fine, as do every other website I have tried, including other search engines. What is the problem?

I got the same issue to and crashes in the same exact manner. Been using IE in the mean time, thought it was just me. I tried reinstalling Firefox and everything, even rolled back windows.
