Why hasn't Apple implemented a way to cancel "update all" ?

I have tried all the suggestions.  Turning off wifi.  Airplane mode.  Turning off the device.  Reset settings.  None of these things help.
I have been reading posts about this issue that go back YEARS.  Why has Apple not implemented a "cancel updates" ?   Why was any potentially lengthy process ever let out the door without a way to cancel it?

It is a technical support question.
There have been many people posting about this problem for years.
I have seen NO response from an Apple rep.  (Thank you for the feedback URL, I will use it)
None of the user-supplied ideas seem to have worked for me or any of the previous victims of this problem.
I did, however, find a way out.  Not to cancel, but to get it to finish.

  • Why hasn't Apple created a way to find a lost iPod without using FindMyiPhone or iCloud?

I think that the majority of users, like me, don't know that there is even a way to find a lost iPod/iPhone until AFTER they lose it.  Appl should find some other way to find a lost/stolen iPod without using apps/iCloud.  Personalley, I find the FindMyiPhone app useless because it can only be used in wifi locations and through iCloud.  I don't even HAVE an iCloud account because I didnt think i needed it.  I had 16 gb to use so i assumed i didn't need the extra space iCloud offered.

  • Why hasn't apple created its own USB or USB adapter for their products.? Since an iPhone or iPad make traveling and doing school work or on the job work, why not create a USB to make transferring information easier too.?

In some folks' version of the world, you have plenty of ways. YOu have the aforementioned services, you have iCloud, all you need is an internet connection and you're good to go. And that works perfectly...if you always have the internet.
If you want more non-internet dependant ways, then the best way to let Apple know is to send them feedback. They don't monitor or respond to this forum (Beyond removing rule breaking posts) but they do at least log feedback. However, the lack of a file manager will always be an obstacle. There are some apps out there that have at least a pseudo file manager - as in the ability to move documents into multiple other apps. I have Readdle Docs which I can use to download and move things around with, but again, back to the internet or wireless.

After loading Mavericks(terrible name, btw), why can't I see a way to sync/update my contacts on itunes anymore?  hm????
And I can't seem to be able to sync contacts at all.  Not at all.... Really... Not happening...
Contacts has always been a sketchy, inferior application, now with the NEW Mavericks, it's not even working.   sigh.

It's named after a favorite surfing beach in California. Many companies are now using names of places because then they know the name doesn't violate a trademark in any of hundreds of countries. Thinking up product names is very difficult, legally speaking. Place names are convenient.

  • Why doesn't Apple list the changes in iPhone updates?

Why doesn't Apple list the changes included with each iteration of iPhone updates? They always post a detailed list of changes for all other major software updates. I wonder why the same is not true for the iPhone, leaving us all guessing and wondering...

Just to add, Ansuz82 pointed out, Apple's track record is that they don't really ever give full published details about what their updates include in any of their products really. If the iPhone is your first product by Apple you may not be aware of this. To them, saying Bug Fixes is enough. If they publicly add more info, it means they really wanted to get that point out. eg: the 1.1.1 mainly just talked about iTunes WiFi store. 1.1.2 mainly talked about the Tiff exploit fixed and keyboard updates for languages. However, with all, a lot more does get changed than just the key points mentioned. And by a lot, I don't mean a lot that you will see. Have to remember, they are still ironing out the OS for the iPhone. A lot of changes to them is just cleaning up and fixing known bugs that many of us as users may not even know exisit (though we see the outcome of them when apps colide and crash each other).

Recently updated Apple ID and PW.  After change, all the photos were gone from Photo Stream.  How do I get them back?

Did you create these notes in the iPad notes App ... I assume?
This support article will explain how you can restore from a backup - which is what you have to do in order to have any chance of recovering your note.
How to backup and restore from a backup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
But you have to remember, that you will lose any of the notes that you have taken since the date of the last backup. If you synced your iPad last week, then you will lose a whole week of current notes - or whatever notes you have created since your last backup. When you restore from a backup - you restore everything in that backup onto the iPad - that was on the iPad on the time and date of the backup.
If you backup every day, then all of your notes should be recoverable from the backup - except for any notes that you took since you last backed up. There is no foolproof way to recover everything once you start taking more notes or creating new documents or whatever that you do in an app unless you are syncing those notes with iCloud and backing up all of the time or unless the app is set to sync with iCloud as you work on the files - like in Pages, Numbers or Keynote - Apple's iWorks apps.
If you decide to restore from an iTunes backup you should turn off at sync before you try restoring because iTunes will want to backup your iPad right away when you plug it in and you will lose your old or last backup.

  • Why hasn't apple set an official release date on the new ipod touch 5th generation?

I was really happy to preorder the new Ipod touch and thinking it was going to be shipped when the iPhone came out. But why do we have to wait until october ?

Correction the ANNOUNCED it on the 12th of september.
Nobody knows (except for apple of course). All it says on the ipod touch page that it ships in October so it could be any date. I predict that it is in the first two weeks of October but when it says buy it now instead of pre-order you know its about to come out.

  • Why hasn't Apple updated it's accounts management system to include account merging?

Is there a solid reason for not being allowed to merge accounts together? It seems odd Apple, a company that strives on simplicity, would disregard people having one account that handles everything form Mail to the App stores, instead of many different accounts.
I hope this is something that Apple will be working on in the near future.

Nobody here can tell you since we are users like yourself.

  • Why can't Apple implement a proper delete key function?

..... by making Shift+ Backspace delete data in front of the insertion point. What on earth is stopping you????

"stopping you????" - who? Apple aren't here, and none of the Apple users here have the ability to add such a function.
No doubt Apple could if they thought there was enough demand for such a function. You can tell Apple that's what you want here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Why can't apple implement something similiar to SBsettings into their notification center?? it would make things so much easier!

Picture of it right here ----> http://media.idownloadblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/SBSettings-iOS5-Beta.p ng  Tell me what you think!!

Given that I'm not going to re-encode my entire video library (I have neither the time nor the inclination), is there anything I can do, like hack it to download and install third-party codecs or something?
You should really try to figure out why the files are not playing on the TV2. If the files can be played on your iPad and iPhone then they are already TV2 compatible. As to iTunes, it can play anything compatible with your current QT component configuration, so this is not a valid comparison for playback capabilities of mobile devices which only contain a sub-set of the components used by the main platform media players. More than likely, your problem is something other than the files.

  • Why hasn't apple fixed the hang problem with Mail

I just spent two days trying to make sure the computer wasn't failing only to find out the problem is with the Mail program... Apple. This has been a continuing problem. Where are you !!!!!!!!?

You're not talking to Apple here, only other users like yourself. If you want to address Apple you can file feedback here.

  • HT1212 Why hasn't Apple done anything about the easy iPad passcode hack?

If yours is lost or stolen, the passcode can be bypassed in seconds!   Don't believe me?   Google "ipad passcode hack" and find out how simple it is to do with a "smart cover" and a couple easy steps.
It seems outrageous that Apple would allow such an obvious flaw to go unaddressed for so long....

From an article posted on SecurityNewsDaily.com:
The flaw was first reported by Mark Gurman with 9to5Mac, who explained that the attacker who unlocks the iPad 2 will not have complete access to the iPad, but will be able to gain entrance to whatever was running when the device was locked.
There is a solution to keep your iPad 2 protected from the Smart Cover attack. In the settings menu under the "General" tab, disable "Smart Cover Unlocking" to prevent someone from using a Smart Cover to get around your password.

  • Why hasn't apple given a exact release date for the iPod Touch 5G?

I don't get why the iPhone and iPod couldn't have just been released at the same day. What are your thoughts on why they chose to release the iPod Touch 5G a month after the iPhone 5?

Well, that isn't going to work in my case... I've ordered the iPod Touch 5 as a replacement for my iPhone 4, since I rarely use mobile 3/4G internet, what with so many WiFi Hotspots available that are both faster and cheaper. The new iPod Touch 5 plus a simple cell phone will do fine, thank you very much, at about half the fixed and variable costs...

  • HT201380 Why is The Apple App Store offering me an update for an app I don't have?

Why is the App Store offering me updates for an App I don't have? Specifically, Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.1 ?

    Welcome,
If this is for the Remore Desktop Client Update then you do have it - it's built in to OSX and is used when you want to use VNC clients.
If it's for Apple Remote Desktop then is't for the Admin App that drives the above client and is a paid for product. If you didn't buy this then it shouldn't appear. If it has lucky you!
    Regards,
    Shawn
