Why have apple not launced new airport express 802.11ac version

Why have apple not launced new airport express 802.11ac version, when recently launching new Airport Extreme Base Station and new Airport Time Capsule 802.11ac versions?
Do you think they will launch one soon as wanting to extend my WI-FI network but don't want to purchase current Airport Express 802.11n version if a new model is due to be on sale in the near future as would prefer latest models/technology.
Please advise

Sorry, but no one here on a user-to-user support forum will be able to tell you what a notoriously secretive company like Apple will do or when they might do it. We are all users.....just like you.
You would need to ask Apple about this, although I would be very surprised if you get an answer with any real information.

  • Setup Problem New Airport Express 802.11ac

    Current setup is:
Cable Modem to Linksys Router to Ethernet Switch to Airport Express 802.11n (in bridge mode).
Airport Express is plugged into the ethernet switch and set to a fixed LAN address.
    Everything works fine and reliable.
Just bought a new Airport Express 802.11ac
Plugged it into another ethernet switch port and tried to set it up the same way (bridge mode), but used a different fixed LAN address and different wireless network name.
I get a warning message that it cannot get a DNS.
I go ahead anyway and it doesn't work.  Router hangs and has to be rebooted.
When I set the new AEX to "extend existing network", it works ok.  But I assume that in this mode I'm still limited by the speed of the old 802.11n device, which is between me and the router and modem.
What is the reason that I can't have two AExpress units both in bridge mode tied to the same router?

... But I assume that in this mode I'm still limited by the speed of the old 802.11n device, which is between me and the router and modem.
Correct. Also, you won't be able to use 802.11ac anyway unless you are using a new MacBook Air or other device capable of  802.11ac.
Make sure that the AirPort Utility setup screen did not say "Setting up this AirPort Express to wirelessly extend (your network name)".
The words you must see are "Setting up ... using Ethernet".
If necessary, set it up again beginning with a "hard reset" and verify that is the result. Leave it connected as you described when you do. Your proposed configuration should work.

  • After setting up my brand new Airport Express 802.11n and accidentally using it to connect my iMac to the network...my iMac no longer connects through Ethernet?  Any ideas...I have tried everything without success!!

I have been using Apple technology for about 10 years starting with 1st generation iPods and our house now includes a 5 year old iMac, all versions of iPods and touches, Apple TVs (both generations) and most recently an iPad 2.  I have always told family and friends that Apple technology just works.  Unfortunately that stopped today.  I bought a new Airport Express 802.11n to use for AirTunes around my new pool.  I set it up from my iMac and accidentally used it to connect my iMac to the network for a short time.  Now I can no longer connect the iMac to the network using a hard wired Ethernet cable.  I have tried resetting everything possible, from hubs to routers to the Mac itself and it just will not connect to the network through Ethernet any longer.  I am now a very frustrated Apple user especially when the support site says I can't use the fast path support because my product was manufactured 5 years ago...I just bought it at BestBuy yesterday.  All other computers and itechnology in the house are connecting via wifi and Ethernet without any issue except from my new iMac boat anchor.  Anybody who can help me???  Thanks

John, thanks for the email so quickly.
I too hope I haven't tried "everything" either but I am reasonably technical.  I had done what you suggested to do before but I did both again.
Ethernet is yellow in the left side bar.  In the right pane it's status says Connected but then below it says "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
I have tried the assist me menu and Network Status has Ethernet Green, Network settings Yellow, ISP Green, and Internet and Server Red and Failed for both.  I have turned things off and on, checked cables, deleted all locations and tried restting them up but to no avail.  I even disconnected everything and connected the mac directly into the cable modem itself and the thing still will not connect.
    Thoughts???

  • I have just bought a new Airport express

I have just bought a new Airport express and I what to connect it to an exicting router. The router is not any Apple device. How can I expand my internet signals? My Mac can not find the new Airport express.

The AirPort Express cannot wirelessly extend the signal of a 3rd party router, if that is what  you are asking about here.
If you can connect the AirPort Exrpress to a LAN <-> port on your router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, the Express can be configured to provide additional wireless signal coverage that way.
Please clarify on what you are trying to accomplish.  It would help if we knew what operating system your Mac was using as well.

  • I just purchased a new airport extreme 802.11ac I set it up and runs fine when i put my mac to sleep i come back and it can not find my airport i have to restart

I PURCHASED THE NEW AIRPORT EXTREME 802.11AC I SET IT UP AFTER I PUT MY MAC TO SLEEP I COME BACK AND IT SAYS CAN NOT FIND AIRPORT EXTREME I HAVE TO RESTART AND IT FINDS IT.

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • I have an 2tb time capsule 802.11n Wi-Fi base station can I use this as an external hard drive and use a new airport extreme  802.11ac Wi-Fi for my wifi?

I have an 2tb time capsule 802.11n Wi-Fi base station can I use this as an external hard drive and use a new airport extreme  802.11ac Wi-Fi for my wifi?

You can use the 2 TB Time Capsule as a network drive. That means that it must connect to one of the Ethernet LAN <--> ports on the new AirPort Extreme, or connect to the network using wireless.

  • Upgrading to New Airport Extreme 802.11ac

Good day All, today I purchased a new Airport Extreme 802.11ac which I will use to replace my 5th generation Airport Extreme.
I have saved the configuration file from my old Airport Extreme, can I simply import this same configuration file into my new extreme 802.11ac?
    Thanks

    Hey GreyWullf,
Thanks for the question. Yes, you can! Check out the following resource:
    AirPort Utility 6.x: Import settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5081
If you saved a settings file from a base station or an AirPort Time Capsule, or if you were given one by a network administrator, you can import the settings to the base station or the AirPort Time Capsule.
    1. Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Select the base station you want to set up, then click Edit.
    2. Choose File > Import Configuration File, locate the settings file, then click Open.
    3. Make changes to any of the settings in AirPort Utility.
    4. Click Update to make the new settings active.
To save a settings file, choose File > Export Configuration File.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

WHY HAVE YOU NOT FIXED THIS ???????

This is a user-to-user forum. Apple doesn't live here (except checking every so often to enforce the TOU). You can rant, rave and vent all you want, won't change a thing and may get you canned.
This is your specific Wi-Fi problem. Most users have had no issues. My two iGadgets have gone from 6.0.1 to 7.0.4 with all the intermediates with no problem. Same for all my colleagues Minis, Maxis and other gadgets. Which leads to...

  • Unable to Connect Using New AirPort Express 802.11n

My mom purchased an AirPort Express 802.11n wireless router (AX) and I, as the designated "technology guru", was tasked with setting it up. Unfortunately, I am having problems out of the box.
When I connect it to the wall, it is found by AirPort Utility, but when I try to set it up, it is unable to connect to the wireless network. ("An error occurred joining the selected wireless network." "An error occurred, close the configuration window and try again.") This is annoying because I have an older AX and it was true to the "it just works" Apple mantra. It is also annoying because the error message has a comma splice.
Feeling pretty proud of my "technology guru" title, I come here to see what I could be doing wrong. I try connecting the computer directly to the router via ethernet cable. With this, I am able to setup my wireless network. I am still not able to connect to it. Additionally, once the AX has been configured, the AirPort Utility can't find it.
I tried updating firmware to 7.5.2. I've tried downgrading to 7.3.2. I've tried hard resets, soft resets. Every tip I could find I have tried. Please help. My self-confidence is wearing out.
Is it time for a call to Apple or a visit to the Apple Store?

Are you trying to configure the Express to "join" the wireless network?
If yes, the message you are receiving is likely an indication that you do not have the correct security settings selected for the Express. Unless the security settings between the wireless router and Express match up exactly, the Express will display the error that "an error occurred, etc".
The easiest way to confirm if you have this problem is temporarily set the main wireless router to "no security" and try to connect the Express that way. If you can connect, then you know that it is a security issue.
Please tell us the exact setting for security that the wireless router there is using and we'll try to give you some more ideas.
The Express will connect. It's just a matter of finding the right settings.

  • Airport utility 6.3.4 can not find my airport extreme 802.11ac

Sometimes the program loses contact with Airport Extreme 802.11ac with firmware 7.7.3 The internet is OK and the internettlight is green but the software seems not to find my Airport Extreme 802.11ac. The curios thing is that the airport utility app on my Iphone will find the Airport Extreme and from here I can restart it - which (obvious) solves the problem - for some time
    Probably a known problem!

The problem is with Yosemite. We have seen many posts from users with "disappearing" AirPorts, but unfortunately there does not appear to be a reliable solution at this time.
Some users have reported that turning off the Firewall on their Macs has helped with this issue. Not sure if you want to try this, and we are not really recommending that you do this, but it might be worth a try if it is important for you to be able to "see" the AirPort Extreme in AirPort Utility from your Mac.
Another check that you can perform that might help is to see if your Mac has been bitten by the Yosemite "naming" bug. To do this, open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Sharing.  Check to make sure that the name of your Mac is displayed correctly.  If you see a (2), (3), (4) etc added to the name of the Mac, edit the name to correct it and restart your Mac.
You may need to check this daily as when you have the bug, the "naming" will likely continue until we get a fix.

  • Can't Get new Airport Express 802.11g to stop blinking on initial setup

Hoping someone here might be able to give me some guidance on this.
A few weeks ago I purchashed an Airport Express with Airtunes g (new, but marked down) - I tried and successfully connected it one afternoon to remote speakers from my Intel Mac Mini 2.0. I didn't have the time then to complete the install, and I was having difficulty with the printer (Epson 530) so I thought I wouuld work on it more later when I had time.
This time when I went to plug in the Airport it won't stop blinking. Furthermore, when I attempt to connect, the Mac will show the network, but then it will "disappear" about 10 seconds later, and the reappear 30 seconds after again on scan. I followed what I thought were the reset instructions, but when I use Airport utility it will either not show my base station, or if it does, and I click to connect, after a period of time I receive an error message that it was unable to connect and to close out the window and try again. One time earlier this evening I was able to "set up" a network, but when it went to the final setup, something screwed up and it lost connection to the base station. Ever since then the Mac either doesn't see the Base station, or it will see it for a few seconds and then disappear. Also it's never stopped blinking (from what I can tell - I have the unit plugged in another room from the Mac when setting it up).
I want to use the Airport Express for Airtunes and to share a printer wirelessly but NOT to connect to the internet via ethernet (don't have high speed at this location) - and also to access my iTunes files from my netbook in the other room - additionally, I'd like to be able to use my ipod touch as a wireless remote to iTunes. If and when high speed becomes possible I'll use it for that also, but for now, I only want it set up for a network between my computers for iTunes.
Anyone have any ideas? Other than to smash this box against the wall? They make it look so easy on the commercial.....
    Respectfully submitted
    Len

Hello and thank you for replying. I was attempting to set up the airport express in the another room from the Mac Mini (the printer and other computers are in the back office) - and it wouldn't recognize. So I reset the express, then plugged it in directly underneath the mac, and I was able to set up a wireless system that way. I then went and plugged it back in to the back, and having it locate the signal from up front was a bit dodgy at first (I think there is a lot of metal in the wall the signal is going through - additionally the Mac mini is underneath the counter up front)
But I was finally able to get it to work by putting the airport express on an extention cord, and repositoining it about halfway up the wall on a makeshift shelf. Now my iPod touch "sees" the wireless network, so I'm able to control iTunes from the back room. Additionally, my windows netbook (Acer aspire One) sees my itunes library, although that only wo Wr ks some of the time. Not quite sure why it performs sometimes and not others.
I haven't tried connecting the printer yet, as I need to get an extention USB in order to do so.
It's my hope that eventually we will get a high speeed connection here at my workplace and I'll be able to take full advantage of the express.
Again, thanks for your suggestions - it is still blinking amber, but everything else seems to be working that I have attempted.

  • Change to channel 149 on NEW Airport Extreme 802.11ac on U.K device?

My new Airport Extreme has a very poor range and see that devices sold within the U.S.A have the ability to increase the power of the device by selecting an higher channel on the 5GHz frequency. I'm not suffering interference and my original non branded modem/router supplied by my ISP is outperforming the Airport Extreme. Apple technical support has not diagnosed any problem with the device and believe it is working normally.
Is there anyway of changing the frequency?

What channel is 5ghz working on??
I doubt a higher channel will help.. the extra power output at the higher frequency does not even make up for the lower range.. ie range is better using 36-40 than higher channels even with the power boost.
At least that is my experience .. on Gen4 TC.
AFAIK channel changes are not sticking.. that is a fault in the airport utility.. have you tried from iOS device or using 5.6.1 utility on windows.. which apparently can still access some of the deeper menu items.. although the changes may simply not stick.
US and UK might also have different regs for power output.. I would think it would set output as high as regulations permit..

  • New Airport Extreme (802.11ac) Support for Encrypted USB Disk

The old Time Capsule and Airport Extreme apparently did not support a filevault2 encrypted USB disk for storing files like an NAS (not talking about a time machine backup).  Does anyone know whether the newly released Airport or Time Capsule now supports the encrypted disk?

I do not think that USB encrypted disks are supported...and would be surprised if they were....but will know for sure late tomorrow.
Will update at that time if no one else has answered before that time.
The fact that Apple still has a USB 2.0 port on the new AirPort products might be a clue as well.

  • HP Printer not connected via Airport Extreme 802.11ac

I recently upgraded from an Airport Extreme 802.11n to an ac and my HP D110 Photosmart printer is no longer connected wirelessly. Is this an HP issue and can it be resolved? Both MacBook Pro and iMac run Yosemite 10.1.1 and have great Internet connectivity. The printer worked fine until the Airport upgrade.

You changed devices that provide your wireless network.....but the HP printer still thinks that you are using your old router since it has not been given instructions on how to connect to your "new" network.
I don't have an HP printer here to check, but in general the process would be to reset the printer back to its original default settings, just as it came out of the box when it was new.....so you can then set it up to connect to the "new" network.
Your HP Setup Guide will likely tell you how to do this. If not, you can contact HP Support for your printer using the link just below:
    HP Photosmart e-All-in-One Printer - D110a | HP® Support
With good luck, another user who might have the same printer may see this post and be able to offer more specific information.
