Why have my old emails on Thunderbird suddenly disappeared?
I switched from Outlook Express some months ago as I'm still running Windows XP. Within the last few days I suddenly seem to have lost all but the most recent emails saved in my various folders for no apparent reason, even the emails I transferred from Outlook Express.

When clicking links in emails in Thunderbird Firefox disappears from view along with its task bar button. Firefox is still open and works, if you know what you are clicking on and prevents other still visible windows being worked with as the mouse only "sees" the Firefox window invisible to human eye!
The irony that you sent me an email to confirm my post...by clicking a link... is not lost on me.

Why have my iTunes playlists on my iPhone disappeared even though they appear when I connect the phone to iTunes on my laptop? I do not seem to be able to retrieve or reinstall them. I normally manage my music manually. Even recent CDs I imported which are showing up on iTunes on the laptop are not appearing on the iPhone. What am I doing wrong? I'm using the most recent versions of iTunes and OS software on laptop and iPhone.

You might have setup your iTunes in such a way that you store your Media files on your External Hard Drive and if that is the situation then whenever you delete anything permanently from your iTunes on your Computer when the External Drive is connected then the Content will get deleted from your External Hard Drive. To verify the Location for the Media files which you have on iTunes do the following.
Open iTunes > Preferences> Advanced and you will see it under iTunes Media Folder Location

Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer. -
I've tried many times to get rid of my old iTunes account. I have made a new Apple ID and I do remember the password. My 2 main problems are, i can't update ANY of my apps (and I have 53 to update now), and I can't get rid of my old old email that I forgot the password to. Every time I try to reset the account and start a new iTunes account, it will ask me for my new email. I've tried multiple times to change it, bbut every time i do, it asks me to put a password when for my old email that I forgot the password to reset the account.
Once you purchase or download an app it will always be associated with the Apple ID used to download it. When that app requires and update you must use the Apple ID and password used to download it in the first place. The only way around this is to delete the apps the require the old Apple ID and download or purchase them again with the new Apple ID.

So when I'm trying to sync my iphone to my computer/ itunes it's telling me that i will loose songs etc.. if I dont authorize that acct... I have no way to access that account. In the box that appears type "no longer have access to my Apple ID email address and I need to reset my password. do not know security questions" (this will allow you to schedule a call to resolve the issue)
Click Continue
Click "Schedule a Call"
Someone will contact you to resolve this issue.

If your Apple ID is the one that you use for making all of your purchases, it should, automatically appear in FaceTime already. How a no longer valid email address got there to begin with is a mystery to me, if in fact you do have, and have been using another Apple ID.
Go to Settings>FaceTime>Apple ID. Tap the old email address and sign out, sign in with your Apple ID. It should be verified and allow you to select it as the address that you can be reached by for FaceTime.
If that does not work, time FaceTime off, restart your iPad and then start all over again. -
iCloud on my iPhone 4s uses an old email address so I am unable to update the phone. I do not have the password and cannot re-set using the old email.

I used sync several years ago with my same email address, but when I try to establish a new account I am unable to because of the pre-existing email address.
You should be able to go to [https://account.services.mozilla.com/ https://account.services.mozilla.com/], and click the forgot your password link to use your old email to reset your password. However, keep in mind that this will delete all your existing sync data from whenever you used this account last.
