Why have my playlists been multiplied?

My family has recently started using iCloud and my MacBook and my iPad are both synced with it. I created a playlist on my iPad and even though I have now deleted it it has also shown up in my library on my MacBook, except it has been duplicated a lot. I think this is what is slowing down my iTunes, because ever since this has started it has taken forever to start up and then it becomes non-responsive after a little while.

I feel like a bit of an idiot, sorted this problem myself!
Somehow, and i have no idea how, i managed to uncheck/untick all 114 songs on the playlist that didnt appear to transfer to my iphone or my ipod.
Having seen this by accident i rechecked/ticked them and would you believe it, all is well again!
My faith in Apple is restored, my faith in my IT skills is a little dented.

  • Why have my playlists on my iPhone disappeared?

Why have my iTunes playlists on my iPhone disappeared even though they appear when I connect the phone to iTunes on my laptop? I do not seem to be able to retrieve or reinstall them. I normally manage my music manually.  Even recent CDs I imported which are showing up on iTunes on the laptop are not appearing on the iPhone.  What am I doing wrong?  I'm using the most recent versions of iTunes and OS software on laptop and iPhone.

    Jim....
Thanks for the help.  However, I am afraid that this didn't change the problem.
I replaced the "iTunes Library.itl" file and still my playlists are gone.

  • Why have I not been notified of Software Updates?

Two aspects of what is perhaps one general problem here.
One, I normally log into my MacBook as a non-administrator user and so don't then expect to be informed of Software Updates. If I've heard of them via MacFixit or whatever, then I know to run Software Update manually, authenticating as an administrator. Recently, however, I switched on my MacBook, logged in as an administrator and, when no notification of a software update was given to me (the administrator user has "Check for updates daily" and "Download important updates automatically" checked), decided to start System Preferences to look at the Software Update status. To my surprise, it had a message about not having been able to connect to the Internet, even though immediately after this I did have a working wireless connection. It seems that if I login as an administrator before the connection is made, Software Update terminates without having found any waiting updates. This has presumably been put there every time I've started up as administrator, which explains why I've never been notified of a software update - or alerted to this problem! Isn't this rather dangerous?
Two, I logged on today as my normal non-administrator account, got a wireless connection, and browsed the web a bit. Then I logged off and logged on again as an administrator. The System Preferences Software Update panel showed "Last check: Software update ran successfully" with a time just after my login as an administrator. I presumed that all was well, that my system was completely up to date, but decided on a whim to press the "Check now" button. Imagine my surprise when I saw that three updates, including MacOS X 10.5.4, awaited me! So, why wasn't I notified of these updates immediately I logged in as administrator?
How many MacOS X users are there out there who, because of this behaviour, not having applied updates - even security updates - manually, have insecure unpatched systems? If the problem is widespread, shouldn't someone be alerting Mac owners to the need to keep our systems updated?

Fortunately the Mac environment doesn't suffer from major security flaws that need urgent patching (contrary to the implication in the Mac help file) and so there is little drama in delaying updates. I personally do not install updates until some time after release so that any bugs can hopefully be ironed out.
However that doesn't address why your software update is not doing its job. You could look at this page to see whether it is any help:

  • Why have my playlists suddenly disappeared?

    Early 2009 MacPro Quad-Core (Nehalem)
    Lion (10.7.4)
    8gb RAM
    iTunes 10.6.3
Woke my machine up this evening and found that all of the playlists in iTunes have disappeared.  All of the music is intact (all 12,588 items)....but my playlists are all MIA.  The list is compleatly blank.
Did a full power down and restart...no change.
Any ideas what happened?  I have done nothing during which the playlists could have been inadvertantly deleted.
I do have Time Machine backups on file.  Which files at what locations should I replace to get them back?

  • Why have my pictures been rotated after sync?

picture taken in 'normal' iPhone position (portrait) are downloaded and viewed in the same position on my mac. so far so good... but when i sync the folder i put them in back to my iPhone, they have been rotated 90°. why is this and how to avoid that?

I am not sure if this will help but here is what i noticed. I took some pictures on the iPhone in portrait mode. When i sync these over to my PC they are rotated 90 degrees to landscape mode. If you think about, this is how a normal camera works - 4x6 pictures are landscape, so if you use the camera in portrait (6x4) by rotating the camera, then transferred pictures are sideways on the PC.
In windows XP, i can view the pics in explorer in thumbnail view and right-click -> rotate-right
Interestingly enough, when i got a pic emailed to me that was taken in portrait mode by regular camera, and then rotated so it looked portrait on the screen on a pc (6x4), the iphone saved it as a 4x6.
So it seems that the PC assumes images transferred in should always be displayed as in a landscape mode unless rotated. And the iPhone exhibits the same behavior - an email image in portrait mode saved to the iPhone is saved as a landscape (this ***** as rotating the phone, rotates the image, so it is always sideways). And this holds for synced images. If i take a picture with the iPhone in portrait mode, copy it to the PC where it is sideways because it is displayed in landscape, and then sync it back to the iPhone (without rotating it), the iPhone displays it sideways (landscape mode).
The real solution is to be able to rotate and save the pic on the iPhone.

  • Why have my emails been blocked from downloading?

The email below was sent to me saying I have been automatically removed from the CCLIST1 list (Calorie Count Monday) as  a result of repeated delivery error reports from my mail system and indicating my email account does not exist and that I may be permanently unable to receive emails on my OS and iOS devices.
This is the second time in three months it has happened. At that time I couldn't find any help on the web or from computer-savy friends regarding how and why it happened or how to rectify the situation. After a week or two my email was permanently blocked and I had to change my email address and contact a couple hundred people and businesses with the new address -- many hours were spent doing this. I could still read my emails and send them on my service provider's website, CenturyLink. This was very helpful as many of the web accounts I had required email address verifications before they would accept account information changes.
My internet/email service provider tried to help by having me redo setting up the Mac Mail account on my iMac. That didn't work. I also went online to Apple to again use the method for resetting the Mail account as well as look for answers.
I received the email below yesterday, so hopefully I have some time to solve the problem before my email is blocked from downloading to my devices.
Any advice and step-by-step directions on rectifying this problem would be very much appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Bonnie

You have been automatically removed  from the CCLIST1 list (Calorie Count
Monday) as  a result of  repeated delivery  error reports from  your mail
system. This decision was based  on the list's automatic error monitoring
policy and has  not been reviewed or otherwise confirmed  by a person. If
you receive  this message, then it  means that something is  wrong. While
you  are obviously  able  to  receive mail,  your  mail  system has  been
regularly reporting  that your account  did not  exist, or that  you were
otherwise permanently  unable to receive  mail. Here is  some information
that may assist you  or your local help desk in  determining the cause of
    the problem:
    - The failing address is [email protected].
    - The first error was reported on 2014-01-06.
    - Since then, a total of 2 delivery errors have been received.
    - The last reported error was: 5.1.0 Probe failed
PLEASE DO  NOT IGNORE  THIS MESSAGE.  While you  can re-subscribe  to the
list,  it is  important  for you  to  report this  problem  to your  mail
administrator so that  it can be solved. This problem  is not specific to
the CCLIST1 list  and may also affect your private  mail. This means that
you may have  lost some private mail  as well. Anyone trying  to write to
you during  the same time frame  might have received the  same errors for
    the same reason."

I read a few more discussions on this problem elsewhere on-line with the suggestion that I had a bug on my computer that hijacked my email account to send emails elsewhere (not that I had any clue on how to discover that on my computer).
I followed the suggestion to access my email account on-line and change my password and make it stronger. I did that and was able to get my emails downloaded to my computer and other devices.
I'm pretty sure that my original problem started when I unsubscribed from the Calorie Counter on-line newsletter by pressing a link at the bottom of the email I received from them. A screen came up that said I was unsubscribed and then disappeared in a flash. The experience seemed odd and weird compared to other times when I've unsubscribed from something.
As a test I resubscribed to the newsletter and then unsubscribed. I was directed to one of CCounter's internal web pages and went through a couple of steps in order to finish the process... all very professional and obviously on the newsletter's website.
So the lesson I learned was have a strong password for my email and change it occasionally. And do the same for other accounts that are password protected.

  • Why have my bookmarks been turned into Bing Searches for those sites? Why do I get a Bing Search when I manually type in the address?

Ever since I installed FireFox 4, I seem to have lost the function of my bookmarks. They simply open up Bing Searches for those sites. I don't even like Bing, why does it keep getting installed into my Firefox?
When I type in the address manually into the address bar (NOT the search bar), I get a Bing Search for the address as well.

I think an add-on has hijacked your browser. If this started with Firefox 4, are you sure you installed the official package from http://www.mozilla.com/ ?
In past threads similar to this, people mentioned a Zugo Search Bar, but I haven't dug into it deeply.
First, make a backup of your Firefox settings for safekeeping: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information].
Next, try starting Firefox in Firefox
[http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.
Does running Firefox without add-ons fix it?
If so, you could disable them all and then gradually restore the ones that are most valuable to you.
If not, there might be some external software intercepting Firefox's communications.

  • Why have all playlists disappeared?

Loved the idea of itunes match and signed up a year ago, and got a few good months of usage for my $25. Several issues today: 1) iphone 4 & ipad 2: reloads itunes match everytime i go to select a song, then repeats this loop with each new selection; 2) will not work on Apple tv; 3) Playlists have disappeared in the ether between itunes, icloud, and then to the devices. What to do?
I have over 12,000 songs -- is there a limit on match?

iMac 27" i7, Mac OS X (10.6.6)    <  hopefully your profile is just outdated.  iCloud requirements are for v10.7.4 or later
    Try resetting ...
On iOS devices tap Settings > ICloud
Switch Calendars off then back on.
On your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud
Deslect the box next to Calendars then reselect it.
Give iCloud a minute or two to re sync the data.

  • Why have my playlists vanished

    I have a 160gb classic.
I am converting all of my music to 128kbps, so I can add videos to my ipod.
I get 2/3 of the way through my library, which is about 18k songs.
Then all of a sudden the playlists vanish off my ipod. The songs are still there. I don't mean that I can't see the playlist option on the menu. I mean, when I go into the playlist section, there are no playlists!
My itunes has all the music in the playlists. When I sync my ipod, and check the ipod to look at the playlists being sectioned, it shows the names of playlists that are being synced, but they have 0 songs in them.
    What do I do?
    I have restored the ipod.

  • Why have duplicate playlists suddenly appeared in my iTunes library?

When I come to sync my iPhone 5 (unfortunately using iOS 8) with my iTunes library, I hit the "music" tab and select "Selected playlists, albums, artists & genres". This has always worked free from hassle or problems. Now I have updated all my Apple devices to the newest software, there are duplicate playlists showing in the "Playlists" section, and my iPhone won't sync at all. Any suggestions? Surely I am not going to have to go through and delete each copy manually??? If that's the case, then sorry Apple, but I'm defecting. Since I installed iOS 8 I have had nothing but trouble. My MacBook Pro won't allow me to use iPhoto, my iPhone is all over the place, and I can't even make phone calls in my car (Hello?? It's a phone - I should be able to make phone calls), and my iMac iTunes account won't sync any more. HELP!!!!!!!!!

  • Why have i never been here

After being away from this forum, as well as the lightroom and camera raw forums, for 24-48 hours, i am no longer recognized. The discussions i started are not listed and no points have been awarded and no unanswered questions from me are listed. I do see my user name at top.
I feel stupid asking about this, but has something changed at adobe or has my computer lost my identity. My computer is unchanged. iMac i7 with os 10.6.4
I have a feeling i am going to be embarrassed by asking this question.
    BE GENTLE.

Do you have multiple Adobe IDs?
If you do this may happen if you are not observant on if you are logged in or not at the Forum page (not at the top of the page whcih very well can show you as logged in).
I have 4 different Adobe IDs (don't ask, it's historical) and some of them point to the very same Adobe account that shows at top of the page, some to another. I don't dare to delete any user account as I have software registred in some of those accounts. If I am logged in as my main AdobeID via the Forum page and am inactive for a certain amount of time, it sometimes happens that the Adobe site all by itself switches my identity. I only see that when I answer something. So if you see something from me where I've been a member since 2009 that's the wrong ID. The right one is from 2002.

  • TS4083 Why have I not been getting email suddenly (started three days ago)

I have not receved an email since Friday April 5th.  No changes to settings.
I can still send emails apparently.

Why start a new and very similar thread to your other one which you have not responded to (have you read the replies?)
I suggest that no response is made to this duplicate thread.

  • Why have random reminders been added to Calendar v8 appointments?

Have macbook pro 8,1 (early 2011) with 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB memory. Updated to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on 11/17/14. Issue with Calendar v8. Generally set 1 day and 2 hour reminders for most appointments but now have random reminders on every appointment that are based on specific dates and time. Also, upon opening calendar defaulted to correct day and month but in 2013. Not sure exactly when problem started but can attest was not experiencing problem as of 11/15/24.

I don't understand the move to separate lists of To Do items apart from the iCal.
It has been made consistent with the way it is on OS X computers and iOS mobile devices.
Also, it no longer seems possible to add a due date to these items.
It is. Just click the Details button on the right (same as clicking the i button on your Mac)

  • Why have Link previews been moved to the bottom of the page? I have a toolbar on my my site and my users cant see it because the link preview is obscuring it...

Well as I can see from other questions asked people are already aware that when you hover over a link the link preview appears at the bottom of the page instead of the status bar.
Other people have said to install https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
Well thats fine for me to do that but what about the users who come to my site and cant see my toolbar at the bottom because the link preview (with a long URL) is obscuring it? I cant tell them to go and install an addon, what bright spark thought of this I find it very disrupting.

As far as I know, [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ the Classic Theme Restorer add-on] is the only way move the Reload button outside the address bar.
    # Install [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer] and restart Firefox when prompted.
    # Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    # Next to Classic Theme Restorer, click the Options button.
    # On the Main tab, make sure "Movable back-forward button" and "Hide urlbars stop & reload buttons" are checked. You might also want to check "Combine stop & reload buttons". Close the options window when done.
    # Right-click an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize.
    # Drag the Back/Forward, Stop and Reload buttons onto the navigation toolbar.
    # Click the Exit Customize button in the lower right corner when done.
That being said, I should point out that you can reload pages in other ways.
    * Right-click any tab and choose Reload.
    * Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Reload.
    * Press F5.
    * Press Ctrl+R (Mac: Command+R).
