Why have my videos disappeared?

Since moving into IOS5 on my iPad1, I've noticed two changes. First, "Sync In Progress" is no longer displayed during sync. I have no idea whether this is significant or unexpected. Second, I have four short videos selected in iTunes (under the tab "Movies") but when I launch "Videos" on the tablet none are there. What happened?

Not seeing "Sync in Progress" is normal and expected behavior now. You will see a little spinning double circle arrow thingy in the upper left corner of the iPad screen by the WiFi indicator when the iPad syncs.
Do a search for the videos. Go to your home screen and swipe to the right. Type in the name of one of the videos in the white search field at the top. If it appears in the search - tap on it and hopefully it will start playing. Let it play for a minute or two and then hit the done button. Go to the videos app and see if the movies appear now.

Just for a little expansion of DonGuerneville advice. To turn NOTES off as he states:
1) Go to SETTINGS
2) go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3) Under account to the top right of your screen, go to EACH account listed here.
4) you will get a pop-up window which will list the following:
Mail
Contacts
Calendars
Reminders
Notes
Next to each entry is an on/off switch. Here is where you turn OFF the Notes.
If you do NOT do it for all Accounts listed they most likely will disappear into the accounts that were NOT turned off.
One last point. When my Notes first disappeared the first place I looked into was my Yahoo Account and they were NOT there. Three weeks LATER is when they first appeared. Why they delay, that is the new mystery....

Why have my contacts disappeared?

I've got an iPhone 4s running OS 7.0.6. Today my contacts disappeared. I have always had my iCloud backup enabled and I've used it to restore on previous occasions, but when I went to the settings it was disabled. Is there any reasone why this would happen? Is there anything I can do to restore the contacts? I'm trying to upgrade my iTunes to see if I can restore from there, but in the meantime I'd appreciate any advice on what I can do.

When I went to iCloud to restore the deleted contact it had been turned off (I'm sure it was on). I deleted the iCloud account and added it again. When I synced the contacts were still lost. I turned on and off the contact back up 4 times and on the last time the contacts reappeared. The favourites list is still not correct but at least the contacts are back.
I'm a little freaked out by this as I thought I could count on iCloud and Apple to keep my info safe. Still at least I recovered most of the data.

A few days ago, all of my contacts disappeared and were replaced by the names of SOME of my Facebook friends. None of these have any telephone contact information, it's all email addresses associated with those Facebook friends. For instance, my husband's name, emails and phone numbers were all deleted from my contacts - help!

Look under iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is there a backup listed for her phone? First thing done when you sync is an iPhone backup. If you have not synced since screwing her phone up, restoring from that backup(if it exists) should restore her content. Do not sync after you restore her phone, eject it. So, first disable auto-sync on that same device pane in iTunes before you proceed. If this doesn't work, is your sister bigger than you? If so, run 'cause her data is gone .

Loved the idea of itunes match and signed up a year ago, and got a few good months of usage for my $25. Several issues today: 1) iphone 4 & ipad 2: reloads itunes match everytime i go to select a song, then repeats this loop with each new selection; 2) will not work on Apple tv; 3) Playlists have disappeared in the ether between itunes, icloud, and then to the devices. What to do?

iMac 27" i7, Mac OS X (10.6.6) < hopefully your profile is just outdated. iCloud requirements are for v10.7.4 or later
Try resetting ...
On iOS devices tap Settings > ICloud
Switch Calendars off then back on.
On your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud
Deslect the box next to Calendars then reselect it.
Give iCloud a minute or two to re sync the data.

I tried under Go and Desktop and no screenshots at all when I press Comm-Shift-3 ever go to the desktop (or anywhere as far as Spotlight can find)

Dropbox is actually nothing to do with Apple, it's a third-party program that allows you to backup, sync and share files in your Dropbox folder.
If you do have it installed, and it's set up correctly, the screenshot files may well be in your Dropbox (open Finder, go to your home folder, and go to the Dropbox subfolder), in a folder called Screenshots. Dropbox is also usually added as a shortcut in your sidebar.
Dropbox installs a menubar icon, it looks like a blue package (and may have a green check mark or spinning arrows to indicate it's syncing). You can click the icon, click the gear icon in the lower right corner of the dropdown panel, and click Preferences - then go to the Import tab, and uncheck "Share screenshots using Dropbox" to revert the screen shot location to the Desktop.
If you have installed Dropbox but never used it, that would explain why you don't have an account set up for it. It doesn't explain where your screenshot files are, though. You may have to reset your preference file to the default Desktop. In the article below, you'll need to enter "~/Desktop" in the Terminal command as the preferred location for the files.

Why have my albums disappeared?

I have about 8 Albums defined; all of a sudden they disappeared. How do I get them to display again? I'm using APE 8.

They (the albums) are back. During the time they were not visible, an album I was adding many images to was not reflecting the additions in my online presence (bclayshannon.photoshop.com). It showed 3 images when it should have really had 17. This is probably just because it was taking a long time to transfer the images from my machine to Adobe's server[s]. But the fact that my albums seemed to disappear altogether on my machine is rather odd. The best guess I have is that I was adding pictures too fast to the album for APE to keep up -- due to my sketchy amount of RAM (896 MB), it threw up its virtual hands and temporarily "gave up the ghost."

It appears that in the past days, all of my messages except for about 3 have disappeared. Has this happened to anyone else?

Check in the Archive folder to see if the messages were moved from Inbox to Archive.
Search in Mail > All to see if you can find a recent message.
If you have determined that the messages no longer exist, please provide the following.
What type of account(s)? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)
What email provider? (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Earthlink, Comcast, ATT, other)
If other please identity provider.
Have you checked online to see if the messages are still on the server?
Do you have Time Machine backup?

Recently my videos , tv shows, etc. have not been able to play on my older Apple flat screen 2nd display. I had been using the display to watch video on a second display while I work on my 2010 iMac. I thought standard defintion videos would be fine on the 2nd display. Now I get an error message telling me to move the itunes window to the main display (where they play fine but get in the way of my work.

DVD-burners get's old
If You burn more than three DVDs in a row without pause to let DVD-Laser cool down - they grow older faster or even over-feat and die. My get's 20-30 minutes to cool down.
Free space on Start-Up hard disk - use to give problems - I never go under 25Gb free space when doing SD-Video and 4-5 times more if HD-material is used
Material feed into iDVD - there are more and more codecs coming and iDVD is picky. Some it can back-engineer to a working form - others not. A while ago this was no problem but as Cameras evolves this gives more and more problems. I convert all my material into a few working codecs/file formats as
• Video - AIC or streamingDV
• Photos - only as .jpg (Never .bmp)
• Audio - only .aiff (Never .mp3, .wma etc)
Forced or Panic Halts - introduces small errors (most often into the application pref. file) and builds up a coming disaster. Trashing this from time to time prevent's this and make application run better.
Just my spontaneous thoughts.

Have you deleted anything from your iTunes library ? Have you checked to see if they are still on your computer, but not listed in your iTunes library ?
If not then do they show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage for redownloading ? If they don't show there and others do and they are still in your country's store, then check to see if they are hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If they are no longer in your store for redownloading (or you aren't in a country where music videos can be redownloaded) then you will need to copy them back from your backup of your library/downloads.

Why are certain videos that I have taken with my iPhone not supported by Aperture? That's weird. I expect that since both iPhone and Aperture are Apple products, file support should be seamless between the two.
Also, iPhone 4 does not appear as Camera Model in the metadata of the unsupported video file in Aperture . But other videos I have taken with the same iPhone 4 appear in Aperture and the Camera Model appears correctly. Why is that?

Have you done some cleaning and cleared caches on your Mac? Maybe the com.apple.xpchelper.cache file is missing. Check the folder /System/Library/Caches/

If this file should be missing, you need to restore it from a backup or reinstall it by reinstalling your system.
