You can share an iMovie project to another device using any of several methods detailed in this article -

if you're still in the Magic GB section, you must use the Open in GarageBand button

When I go to save my unfinished imovie project, neither of the "imovie projects" or "imovie events" are visible where they should be. Why is this?

The latest version (iMovie 10) doesn't have iMovie projects and iMovie events folders - these were for iMovie 9 and earlier.   In iMovie 10 Projects are in Events and Events are in Libraries.  When you quit iMovie the current status of your projects and events are automatically saved in the library so there is nothing to do.  The default location for libraries is in ~ / Movies folder but you can put them anywhere, such as on an external drive .  If you want to backup the library you can make a copy of it on a separate disk or memory stick using the Finder.

  • Can I save/export from Captivate 4 down to Captivate 3?

Can I save/export from Captivate 4 down to Captivate 3?

Yes, you can! But you need Captivate 3 installed in your computer.
First, open the project in Captivate 4. Copy all the slides. Open a new project in Captivate 3. Paste all the slides.
I have done this with Captivate 4 to Captivate 2, so I am sure it should work with 3.

  • Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Hi, Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Absolutely.  Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion).  Make sure you check the Self-Contained box.  The export will be an exact copy of your Sequence, complete with any filters or other effects you've added.  Import the self-contained movie back into the project (or another project) if needed.

  • Is it better to export an iMovie project as QT and use Toast to burn a DVD for general use or to export to iDVD and burn VD from there?  Why?

Is it better to export an iMovie project as QT and use Toast to burn a DVD for general use -  or to export iMovie project to iDVD and burn DVD from there?  Why?

Toast probably maintains better quality if you are just doing simple conversion direct from your camera straight into Toast and then to DVD. There's a lot less transcoding steps and loss of quality in that direct to DVD disk creation in Toast. However, having said that,...There's good arguments probably for both.
What I've seen promoted most often (as most people don't have Toast or aren't motivated to buy it) is to Share to Media Browser (choose the Large size option) and then from inside iDVD click the Media Button and the Movies button to find the project under the iMovie star icon in the Media Browser window. Drag that project into your iDVD project and burn the disk.

  • How do I export an iMovie project on to my iPhone 5 so I can upload to YouTube ?

I've been having issues on trying to easily export my iMovie project ,it's my first time using iMovie and I'm having trouble and I need help!

Command + drag your project from within iMovie onto your external drive and you will be asked if you want to move just the project or consolidate your media by moving the events etc as well.
Type "Consolidate" or "Move Project to External Drive" into iMovie Help for more information.

  • Error when exporting my imovie project

    Hi there,
Everytime I try to export my iMovie project I get the following error:
“Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)”
As proposed in other discussions I have optimized every single clip. However the error is still popping up. Would be much appreciated if anyone could help me.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Jodok
    Can someone please help.
    Many Thanks

OK I suggest that you right-click on your Event and see if iMovie offers to optimize your clips. This will convert them to Apple Intermediate Codec. It will place the originals in a folder called Movies/iMovie Original Movies, so you will still have a copy of the originals.
You export should go smoothly after optimizing.
If you do not optimize, then iMovie has to optimize on the fly, during the SHARE. This places a huge load on your computer. It is better to go ahead and optimize separately.
H.264 uses Group of Pictures compression. In this compression scheme, there is one full frame for every (say) 24 frames of video. The remaining frames are partial frames that contain info like what has changed since the previous frame, direction of motion, etc.  Obviously, this is not good for editing, because if you edit out the full frame, the remaining frames are useless. So before editing or sharing, all these partial frames have to be resolved into full frames.
Apple Intermediate Codec is a full frame codec. Each frame has some compression, like the full frames in h.264, but all frames are full and they are independent of each other. You can cut wherever you like, and you can apply slow motion without worrying about where you start.
In Final Cut Pro X, you would use ProRes 422, another full frame codec.
You should expect Apple Intermediate Codec to be about 10X larger than the equivalent h.264 clip.

How can I move all my iMovie projects to an external hard drive and save all future projects to that same drive without constantly getting the 'can't find files' statement?  I am using iMovie 10.0.7,

You can have multiple libraries if you want and save them anywhere.

How can I save a book in projects on a separate hard drive?

You can not save "just a book"
The book is just entried in the iPhoto database and the only way to move its location is ot move the entire iPhoto library
You can make a special library just for the book so you have a smaller library to archive - see Old Toad's tutorial #9

  • Newbie Question: Why can't I open my iMovie project in FCP?

    Hello all--
I'm sure some variation of this question has been posted a bajillion times but I can't seem to find the answer. At this point I feel like a damsel in distress. Rescue me?
I've been working with iMovie for about two years now and I've recently been learning Final Cut Pro to up the ante on my videos. However, when I tried to import an iMovie project into FCP yesterday, it didn't quite work. Let me explain what I did and what happened:
    1) I exported my (edited but previously unpublished) iMovie project by clicking Share>Export Final Cut XML
    2) I opened FCP and clicked File>Import>XML and then selected the XML, leaving all the boxes checked
    3) FCP imported the project as a sequence; however, the entire sequence reads "Media Offline" in the Canvas.
    4) I clicked File>Reconnect Media and the list of offline files is overwhelming. I tried my luck by clicking "locate" and going to my imovie folders to find the clips, but even when the browser allowed me to select a clip, when I double clicked it, nothing in the sequence changed - it's all still "offline."
I really don't know much about media management, I'll admit - I'm wondering if maybe iMovie saves edited clips in a folder other than the events or originals folder - maybe the edited clips become "temporary items"? I know I have a ridiculous amount of imovie cache and temporary items and I never touch them because there are just so many of them and I don't want to mess anything up. But could the files that FCP claims to be "offline" in fact be located in these "temporary" folders? I mean, I've looked everywhere else on my hard drive and nothing is working! Sorry, I am probably just confusing myself MORE (and you), but maybe SOMEONE will know what in the world I should do
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the family. I don't think many of us have ever used iMovie so your post might be more quickly answered in that forum.
My suggestion is to forget trying to move the project. Rebuild it in FCP. The exercise will teach you much more about your new software than fighting XML.
If you don't feel like doing that, try a smaller iMovie project, something with only two or three clips and one dissolve.
The larger issue is probably how iMovie stores its captured media which is completely different from how FCP does it. And the format is different. FCP does not, IIRC, view iMovie's default dvstream codec. You will want to export your movie clips as DV.
