Why I can't sync my iPad mini?

I bought an iPad mini 2 months ago and I activated on the ipad itself, but now when I want to conect it to my iMac, it appears as the ipad was new, I don't want to erase it because I have a lot of data on it and iCloud isn't enough.

(This was written for the iPhone, but applies equally to an iPad Mini.) If you are using iTunes 11, first go to View>Show Sidebar to follow this guide. Also, Transfer Purchases (step 5) is now in File>Devices. If you aren't syncing your contacts or calendars with your computer using iTunes, you can skip step 2; just be sure not to enable syncing these on the Info tab of your iTunes sync settings prior to syncing your iPad.

Yes ... with regard to syncing. Actually, you need to be running OS X 10.6.8. This is copied from the iPad Mini tech specs website.

iCloud requires OS X Lion (10.7.2) or higher. You will need to upgrade to either Lion or Mountain Lion in order to set up iCloud on your Mac. First check to see if your system meets the system requirements to upgrade.

Any one or a combo may help.
Give your mini a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot. Then try again.
Try a different USB port
Try a different cable
Is your iTUnes up to date? If not, update it.
If that doesn't work, (if you're on a PC) go into the control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall iTunes, Apple mobile device service, apple application support. THen redownload and reinstall iTunes and give it another try.

But when the PC booted and connected my iPad, Windows did not detected my iPad, i tried to restart Apple Mobile Device Handler, but it did not work , i NEED to make my iPad to sync, in this computer i have all my music.

make one last pass and make sure you are using the most current version of I tunes for windows.
You might also want to turn off any A.V. or firewall you might be running, and see if that makes a difference.

There's not an iPad 5th generation. The newest is the 4th generation. To sync it requires that you run OS 10.6.x minimum and iTunes v11.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
Do this first...

After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
You should then be able to Sync.

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless... Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

If you synced it many times, you have to have a backup. It's just a question of how old that backup is now. When did you last sync?
First of all launch iTunes on your computer and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. Do you see any backups for you iPad in that window? If so, how new is the newest backup? That will be the backup that you will want to use. But remember that if you use that backup and it is one month old, you can only restore from that date back in time. Anything that you did on the iPad in the past month will not be in that backup.
Turn on the new iPad Minin and start activating OTA via WiFi. You will get to a certain point in the process where you will be given the choice to Set up as new, Restore from iCloud - or Restore from iTunes. You will want to select Restore from iTunes.
That is the short and sweet version. There are step by step instructions in this article. This applies to the mini as well as the iPad 4 or the iPad 3 for that matter.
