• Windows XP - no icons, no taskbar, cannot right click

Hello TechNet Support -
Wasn't able to view all forums, am hoping this question will appear in the correct one.
Helping a friend with his Dell desktop - Windows XP SP3. When we try to start up, the desktop background picture appears, but that's it. No desktop icons, no taskbar, cannot right click, nothing.
When I open Task Manager via Ctrl-Alt-Del, I can click the New Task button and run a few programs. IE, Outlook Express, and others. We cannot get to File Manager or any file window that would access his data. Control.exe does not open. [NOTE: sorry, I said
Control.exe but meant Explorer.exe]
I opened a command prompt window and ran chkdsk without /F, it listed a number of index errors. when I ran with /F and said yes to run at next boot Chkdsk did run, but no results, no changes were made, even with /F.
All help appreciated,
John

Ugh. I had this exact problem many years ago three separate times. I fixed it by going into the control panel...have you just typed in "control" or "explorer" to see if that works? Unfortunately I cannot recall for
the life of me what I did after that...I can try to see if I can find something on it later on today but I was able to find my solution online so it should be out there somewhere. There shouldn't be any reason to wipe the system, but the third time it
happened to me was when I moved up to the next OS. Just sayin'

Why does the Right-click -> "t" delete a bookmark on the bookmark toolbar, when Right-click -> "t" opens a new tab elsewhere in Firefox. The bookmark toolbar use Right-click -> "w" to open in a new tab. Please change this to "t" to... I keep deleting all my bookmark because you don't make the commands consistent!

If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) to get them back.
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.

• Cannot not click on menu that appears when i right click my taskbar, as the right click menu dissapears when i move mouse over to the right click menu

PROBLEM: RIGHT CLICK CONTEXT MENU DISAPPEARS WHEN TRYING TO LEFT CLICK AN OPTION
Hi,
Im using Windows 7, and i could always
go down to my TaskBar and Right Click
Icons, and active icons, which would bring up
the standard Right Click Menu list.
PROBLEM
As soon as i moved my Mouse away from
the bottom Window 7 Task Bar to go a couple
of millimeters above to left click an option on
the Context Menu i opened with my right click,
The whole Menu disappears, and this happens in
Firefox version 29.01, other programs in Firefox,
and other such as Skype.
When i was running Firefox 28
i didn't have this problem, can you help me out.
Thank You
Kev Borg

'''PROBLEM'''
'''RIGHT CLICK MENU DISAPPEARS WHEN YOU MOVE YOUR MOUSE TO LEFT CLICK A MENU OPTION ON THE RIGHT CLICKED MENU.'''
''''''YOU CAN'T BECAUSE AS YOU MOVE YOUR MOUSE TO THE MENU YOU JUST RIGHT CLICKED TO OPEN DISAPPEARS BEFORE YOU GET A CHANCE TO LEFT CLICK YOUR CHOICE.''''''
'''SOLUTION'''
'''1]''' GO TO '''CONTROL PANEL''' AND CLICK TO VIEW MENU
'''2] ''' GO TO "'''EASE OF ACCESS CENTRE'''" AT THE TOP.
'''3]''' LEFT CLICK ON MENU ITEM "'''EASE OF ACCESS CENTRE'''"
'''4]''' AFTER YOU LEFT CLICK ON "'''EASE OF ACCESS CENTER'''" IT APPEARS.
'''5]''' LOOK DOWN THE LIST TILL YOU FIND "'''MAKE THE MOUSE EASIER TO USE'''"
'''5]''' THE TOP SECTION SHOWS YOU HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MOUSE COLOURS ETC.
'''6]''' SCROLL DOWN TILL YOU SEE THIS HEADING "'''MAKE IT EASIER TO MANAGE WINDOWS'''"
'''7]''' RIGHT UNDER THAT MENU THERE IS CHECK BOX,
"'''ACTIVATE A WINDOW BY HOVERING OVER IT WITH YOUR MOUSE"
'''8] MAKE SURE THERE IS NOT A TICK IN THAT OPTION BOX, IF THERE IS UN TICK IT AND APPLY AND CLICK OK TO SAVE.
And now you should have No More Problems with your Right Click Menu disappearing when you move your mouse over to the menu to left click a menu item on that right clicked menu.
SOLUTION FIXES PROBLEM.
Thank You and i hope this answer my help any other people who have had this frustrating problem.

• [SOLVED]Cannot right click in openbox

Quite simple actually, I cannot right click anywhere. Most everything else seems to work though.
(P.S.: Arch newbie here)
Some info: 64-bit Gateway M6720
I just used xev and found out that the key isn't even being picked up. I tried the same thing on an Ubuntu live CD. Looks like I've got a broken right-clicker...

I guess you are running openbox-standalone and your X closes when you do
$ killall openbox
or some loginmanager. My mistake for not notifying earlier.
but there is the way around.
The trick is not letting exec to land on openbox-session.
for that you can for the moment move your .xinitrc
$ mv .xinitrc .xinitrc.bak
then you can fireup you xinit which leaves you with xterm.
then run openbox-session or openbox, blender or alternative windows manager like fluxbox or something to just get work started.
My method are not really applicable you can see..

• Cannot right click in web browser

Cannot right click to save pictures or to open up another tab inside web browser.

There are other things that need attention:
You have or had an extension installed (NET_mmhpset) that has changed the user agent from Firefox/3.6.13 to Firefox/3.5.5.
'''Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 YFF3 Firefox/3.5.5 NET_mmhpset ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C)'''
You can check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page.
You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website.
Filter: general.useragent
If general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose Reset.
See:

• Can't Right-click, Empty Trash when set to Hidden, but visible in Expose

I like to hide my Dock by default. When it pops up in Expose, it's like it's teasing me--I try to Right-click on the now visible Trash icon, but the menu to Empty it doesn't pop up like it normally does.
Left click functionality still works for Autohidden Dock icons in Expose, and Right-click still works when I leave Expose and hover mouse over the Dock. It's just annoying that Right-click on Dock doesn't work in Expose.

• When trying to look at pix on a cd, it comes up as word document and have to right click on preview to see picture. Why

On my desktop, when wanting to see pictures on a CD, if I click on the picture icon it open as a word document. I must right click on the icon then click on preview and can then see all pictures on the CD. This just started after the last Firebos update. What needs to be done to correct. I have no problem seeing the pictures on my laptop which doen not have Firefox.

Firefox is a web browser, and your problem is associated with how Windows handles image files. Firefox doesn't even need to be running, so I don't see how it could be associated with your problem. If the problem started around the same time as a Firefox update, I'm willing to bet that it was just a coincidence.
