Why I dont have the OS X instead DVD with my MacBook pro?

Why I dont have the OS X instead DVD with my MacBook pro?

If you were running 10.7 or later, and had a normal install, there are two ways to get there
Command-R at Startup is the usual method.
Option key at Startup draws a gray screen and puts up an Icon for each Bootable Volume. Among them should be Recovery_HD. Choose that and proceed.
The Recovery_HD partition is treated as a special case, and is NOT shown by default in Disk Utility. There are parameters you can change to get Disk Utility to show all partitions.

if you dont have the sim card that came with the iphone and you resync it how do you get it to turn back on .?

You have been syncing the iPhone with iTunes on your computer without a SIM card inserted in the iPhone for how long?
If the iPhone says connect to computer, this means there is a problem with your iPhone that requires restoring the iPhone with iTunes. As already provided, not having a SIM card inserted in an iPhone does not prevent or shouldn't prevent syncing the iPhone with iTunes. Depending on the iPhone model, it is required in order to restore the iPhone with iTunes.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3406
To re-activate an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS that displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen:
Insert a SIM card from the carrier with which you used your phone. Note: If you are using the same carrier, you can use the activated SIM card from your new device to do this. If your device is unlocked by your carrier, you can use any SIM card.
Connect the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS to iTunes on a computer connected to the Internet.
iTunes will then activate the device. You can remove the SIM card at this point and use the iPhone as if it were an iPod touch.

In your case your only solution is to restore it ( see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 ) and you may need to force it into restore mode to do that.  This will wipe everything off it and reset it as new, without the passcode.  You can then redownload purchased content, buy unless you have a sync'd copy of your contacts and photo's they will be gone.

Thanks for the useful feedback, Knucklesmac. I agree. I must have blown something on the logic board -- because I had a faulty old KVM switch that would not switch between computers without some nasty hot-plugging/unplugging the VGA video cables. (wince!). It's like when Dizzy Dean ruined his arm because a line drive hit him in the foot and he readjusted his mechanics around the injury. I take the blame because this has been a great computer, and does not deserve any blame.
If it will help anyone else reading this thread, C2G (née Cables to Go) has some interesting ideas for still getting external video out of this computer:
    -USB-to-VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/30545
-Convert s-video or composite video signals to high resolution VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/40971
The price range is $75-$85, which doesn't make horse sense to me for such an old computer -- which has a lot of life in it anyway, because its own 15" monitor is not chopped liver.

I replaced my hard drive and lost iPhoto. Is there a way to retrieve?  I can not find the starter discs that came with my Macbook Pro.

Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. You can purchase replacement discs from Apple.
Or, you can upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

You can upgrade your OS to Snow Leopard 10.6.x.
You can call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a fee, a replacement set of system discs (if available), can be ordered. However, the discs will be for the original version of OS, that was pre-installed, when the Mac was manufactured.

  • TS3048 The keypad is not registering with my macbook pro - changed batteries but still not working.  Bluetooth says it is connected.  Suggestions please.

My bluetooth numeric keypad is not registering with my macbook pro - changed the batteries when the light started blinking - but won't work.  Bluetooth says it is connected.
    Suggestions please.

Your MBP sees the Bluetooth keyboard but won't pair with it probably because the keyboard is pairing with another computer or device nearby. If you had previously paired the same keyboard with another device, go to the other computer or device and either unpair it or have the device "forget" the keyboard. Then you will be able to pair the keyboard with your MBP.

  • Utility Airport can't see Airport Express on my MacPro, although the same AE operates properly with a MacBook Pro

I've unsuccefully spend almost three days on the web to find the solution to a particular problem.
The configuration  I'm running is as follow:
    - one Airport Express attached to the Orange box to communicate through internet
    - one printer attached to the AE through USB
    Two Mac :
    - one MacBook Pro : it operates with no problem using the AE and the printer, internet is fine since I write this message with that Apple. The two machines may operate simultaneously under different or identical softwares.
    - one Macpro : two points:
         * the Airport utility does not see the Airport Express, but the AE logo is fully active on the computer and I can read information with Preferences/Network.
         * the Network diagnostic, launched from the MacPro, yields GREEN from Airport to FAI included steps ( green LED), but fails at the Internet step (red LED)
The computers are in the same bench, the AE being at 2 meter distance with no shield in between.
The Orange box is proved fine since all the internet communications are OK when I use the MacBook Pro . The phone is fine as well.
There are no other WiFi in the neighbourg.
The problem occured on Sunday evening for an unclear reason, while I was trying to connect a window XP based PC to link to the printer using the same wireless network ( I miserably fail as well, although the PC sees the Airport Express, but no way to connect to the printer : this is another issue )
The full network is running permanently for a couple of years with no issue, no fault, no reset, no slow down, just fine !
Both machines use the same OSX 10.6.8.
Information system returns the same data when reading the Airport network file.
Of course, the Airport Express yields solid Green light .
I've already checked the trouble shoot procedures as recommended by Apple with no success.
Well, this is a major issue since I do need my MacPro to handle work that must go through the internet.
Any advise and/or recommendation will be highly appreciated.
    Michael

    Hello,
Finally, I solve the issue by re loading the mDNSResponder which has been deactivated for an unknown reason. The system is back to normal operation.Thank so much to the Krypted.com site to provide the appropriate command to handle theplist file.

  • How do I revert to Snow Leopard from Mountain Lion? I do not have the setup disk that came with my MacBook but I do have the Snow Leopard software.

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and very much regret this move.  I cannot use Parallels or Bootcamp for Windows XP which I need for some of my 'older' accessories.  How do I revert from Mountain Lion back to Snow Leopard?  I have the Snow Leopard software but I do not have the original setup software disk that came with the MacBook (leant to a friend and never seen again).

If you do revert to Snow Leopard, be aware of this "feature" I used with my 2009 MacBook Pro:
When it had the original OS (Leopard, I believe) I set up Bootcamp with Windows XP.  I also installed Parallels and use the Bootcamp partition for Windows XP within Parallels.
I then upgraded to Snow Leopard and all was fine.
I then upgraded to Lion and still my Bootcamp partition works for Windows XP and also for Parallels.
I have not upgraded to Mountain Lion so I cannot speak to whether or not the Bootcamp paritition of Windows XP will continue to work.  If you do and it works, LET US KNOW!

  • Why I still have to pay for iWork on my new MacBook Pro ?

I bought a new MacBook Pro in last Friday ,25 October. But there is no iWork pre-installed in the system.(ps. The system is OS X 10.9 now) When I try to install iWork from App Store ,,it shows I still have to pay for $19.99 for Numbers. Could u tell what happened and what should I do?

You shouldn't have to pay.  Try these steps to solve your problem - apparently you aren't the only one with this issue:

  • I have the iCloud in my iPod touch and macbook pro but how come the music i purchased from iTunes doesn't appear in my other device?

i upgraded my macbook pro with the new Mac OS Lion and downloaded the IOS 5 with the icloud, then did the same with my ipod touch.  So when I purchased a song from itunes using my ipod touch, how come it didn't appear in my laptop?

Did you restore the iPod using this iTunes library/computer?
Make sure that yo have the right boxes checked to sync the media
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • My hard drive crashed, and I cannot reinstall the original OS that came with my macbook pro?

I bought my macbook pro (mid 2012 version) 10 months ago and it's been working fine up until now (running on Yosemite). When I opened the lid today, a flashing question mark appeared on the screen. I restarted my mac while holding the option key. I tried to do an internet reinstall but I can't get it to work. When I try to reinstall the OS that came with my mac, there are no options for me to click when asked to select a disk.
I have tried following instructions from multiple threads about how to change the disk utility.
Options on the lefthand side: "disk0" and "mac OS X base system". Options on the right: disk0 - first aid, erase, partition, and restore. Mac OS X base system - first aid, erase, restore.
None of the solutions I've found online are working for me. Most of the options in the disk utility menu are greyed out, so I can't click on them.
Sorry for any typos, it is hard to type this all out on my phone. I have tried to upload pictures, but it doesn't seem to be working. I also apologize if this is in the wrong category.

  • Have PS Element 12 using it with new MacBook pro.  When I edit and save a photo in jpeg format, and try to e-mail it, it has a duplicate but ghost image underneath, and I don't want this second image.  How do I get rid of it?

Unwanted ghost image underneath edited file.  Need to solve!!!  Have not experienced this with my old CS2.  Please help.

    Hi Panamark,
The problem has been resolved for me. I am a little fuzzy on how it got fixed.
I only have 3G, so I think I went to the library to use wi-fi.
I think I just deleted the stuck apps, and the downloaded them again. You do not have to pay again when you download a previously purchased app.
It is now August, and fortunately I have not had any stuck apps lately.
As you may already know, you cannot download an app over 20 MB via 3G.
I have the Kindle app also. No new updates lately. I only bought one thing using Kindle. It was a guide to iPad that was only $1.99 or so, but it did not really have anything that cannot be found in normal free Apple guide.
I have borrowed an ebook from the library using Overdrive app. You can choose the ebook version from Kindle.
I don't have any weather apps.
Let me know what happened when you get the chance.

  • Why can't I import photographs from a DVD to a MacBook Pro?

Trying to transfer the pictures from a DVD and I get all kinds of messages, but it seems that it cannot read it. Do I need a special app?

In other words, will I be able to manipulate DVD's with photos on them?
No. That's over. It's not coming back. You need to make new arrangements. DVD and other optical media is dying out. There is a single model of Mac you can buy now with an optical drive. Soon there will be none. This is repeating throughout the computer industry. That's why I say that optical media is going the way of the floppy disk.
The only reason I mentioned Aperture is that it is a way of merging libraries. Aperture and iPhoto are no longer developed. They are both on the way out. A newer app is coming to replace them. Other than a (more expensive) way of merging, Aperture has no solution for you.
Multiple external drives, backing each other up, is the way forward at the moment. An online back up is helpful too.

  • Have video!  What is wrong with my MacBook Pro?

    Hello everyone,
in late 2008 I bought a new Penryn chip MacBook Pro 15". In early 2010, it died. No display, does not go into boot. Every time I hit the power button it seems like it will start, the sleep light blinks a few times, then shuts off, all within 5 seconds. Each time it shuts down a tiny little "chuuu" sound comes from the front area, near the HD.
I have posted a video on YouTube of this. Please check it out and give me your best answer to what it could be. Please tell me it's not a new motherboard.

    Thanks!

In PC terms it would appear that the computer is not finishing the initial self-test. (POST) One PC I had that did that, it was the power supply not supplying enough power to the +5v bus. Another PC, it was the motherboard with a failing hard drive controller.
If it is your motherboard, there's not going to be a "cheap" way to fix. [MBs would run you in the $500-$700 range|https://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/view_all.php?cat=465]. Maybe something chapter on ebay/Craigslist. But you don't know if it is just the motherboard. Maybe you have other things failing. Particularly based on the poor condition of the Mac. Maybe buy a same model Macbook with a cracked screen, but working, so that you can move your screen over to the other Mac. But you don't know if your screen is fully functional so even that is a gamble.
I'd recommend [lifting off the keyboard/trackpad assembly|http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/macbookpro_15> and checking all the cable connections to the motherboard. See if any of the plastic "ribbons" are torn or kinked. Push in fully all the other connections, etc. Check for corrosion. You have gaps in the case, which could have allowed creepy crawlies to make a home. (i.e.: ants.) I have the same model Mac and have removed the keyboard several times for hard drive upgrades (and to put back the original drive when sending in for Applecare repair,) so I know it's not difficult, although a pain due to the amount of screws.
But overall, if the examination doesn't show anything obvious, then I'd say it's time for a new Mac. One or two generation old refurbished Macs can be had in the $500-$1000 range which is "better" use of your money than a motherboard, which may or may not be all you need to fix your Mac anyway.
