Why I upgraded to Dir 12?

To set the Stage.... I had been a long time Director user back with Macromedia and long before Flash but stopped using it about 2007.   So why did I upgrade to Director 12?   The price of the upgrade was cheap ($299) and the number of additions since MX 2004 seemed great...especially the H264 video... but most importantly and intriguing for me was the ability to port to iOS.
I had tried the free version but it took me a while to figure out provisioning for iOS so... my trial ran out....the decision had to be made.   Buy or not buy.
For $299 I gambled and bought it...figuring I could figure out this provisioning thing between my day job and my obessive need to play World of War Craft.
The good news is ... I have figure out how to use _Touches, the accelerometer and gyro and have made a few prototypes, applications and presentations for use on the iPad and iPhone.  The bad news is... the documentation is lacking as everyone has pointed out and there are some very basic iOS problems in this release:  3D objects still have to be w3d an old format that current 3D platforms don't export anymore, no video support, vector objects created within director don't render in IOS, Enterprise provisioning has issues ( havent gotten this to work yet ), rgb(255,255,255) doesn't key out properly on text, and VoiceSpeak doesnt work - nor do any third party xtras, transitions do not work ( frame or puppet )...and I have only been at this for about a week so i know there i alot more issues I have yet to uncover.  My biggest grief is... no books...only PDFs to search.   I do my biggest research when the computer is not on and thumbing threw the lingo dictionary...just wondering what a particular property or command does....then when the question arrise... I can go...oh ya..read that somewhere...I can do that.....the PDF thing for me stinks...good thing I still had my printed MX Lingo Dictonary.
But is this all bad news?  I don't think so...at least I hope not.  Adobe hasn't figured out what to do with Director but with Flash loosing ground and relegated now to just creating banner ads, at least in the agency I work for and Edge so far behind where we all wish it was....there is a window of opportunity for Director...but where and in what market?   Adobe thinks its games and all things shockwave.   If you open the IPA you will find the famous .dcr and their website promotes the fact that you can "publish games directly to iOS"...they did not mention anything else you could do with iOS.... I don't think they are thinking they want to put up a significant fight yet to handle the xtra security issues and they aren't really certain what the director community is going to do with the tools they have.
This is where Director was at version 1.0  - a collection of tools and a few people wanting to push the envelope of interactivity.   Luckily for us,  there are alot more now than just a few people.  But if I were Adobe and I didn't know what to do with the product I would do exactly what they have done.   Provide a few updates and see who is buying, deetermine my market size and see what they do with the tools they provided.
Since my main goal was to produce iOS apps,  Director 12 with its problems is definately a step backwards in its functionality due to its current limitations....but what it is providing is the ability to develop quickly and easily for iOS.   I can make prototypes applications faster and cheaper and get them in the hands of clients in days vs. months.
Perhaps Adobe doesn't know why I bought Director 12.  Perhaps they don't know why anyone buys Director anymore and believe games are the only reason anyone does it.  My fear is that Director has been on its death bed for several years and unless we ( the community ) can convince Adobe where this product can be used in the mobile space ( games or otherwise ) its future will continue to be uncertain.   I believe they have given us an opportunity - its iOS and we have to once again push the limits of the features they have provided.
Well at least thats why I upgraded......why did you?

Hi Orjan Bark
We need your help as u r Director Lover.
We are working on a projetor using Flash (AS 3) and Director 11.5, and stuck at an issue of External Loding of Swf from swf link in director.
i.e. In dir file there are several swf (with AS3 code). These swf runtime load external swf file(which is in the same folder).Parent swf is usning only library asset from external; files.
The problem is that it takes too long long long time to load that swf files.
When we run swf file it works fine without any delay.(without director all goes perfect).
We had tried to solve this problem using diffternt method of AS3. But it seems that problem occur at director side,( as every time it work fine with out director).
So do you have any idea, what's wrong with director......
Thanks in advanced if u can solve this.....

If the "it" refers to a compressed (zipped) spreadsheet that you downloaded, the ".ods" extension is used by LibreOffice and probably OpenOffice (which are free versions of MS Office) for spreadsheets, which would suggest that wherever you're getting that "Excel" file from has switched to one of those programs. I've tried opening an .ods file from LibreOffice using MS Office 2013 for Windows and it does open though with a warning that some things have been changed. I don't know if Office for Mac can normally open .ods files. But if your need is to just open .ods files, take a look at LibreOffice.

  • Can someone tell me why, since upgrading to Yosemite, I keep getting a message window saying "Another device on the network  is using your computer's IP address?"

Can someone tell me why, since upgrading to Yosemite, I keep getting a message window saying "Another device on the network  is using your computer's IP address?"

That may be what is a fairly common problem of 2 devices mistakenly assigned the same address. Try shutting off all of the devices connected to your router, reboot the router and then the devices connected to it.

  • Why is upgrading Firefox so confusing?

Why is upgrading Firefox so damn confusing? I just upgraded at Firefox's urging and when the new page opened it still said I am not on the latest version. One problem is that when you click on "Upgrade" it takes you to a page where you would expect that somewhere it would say "Upgrade." But that is not the case. The directions are unclear on how to proceed and I am never sure if I am in fact upgrading. The process often does not work the first time. When you are done, why isn't there a box that says "You have successfully installed the latest version of Firefox" so there is no ambiguity? This recurring problem makes me reluctant to bother upgrading whenever Firefox prompts me to do so.

This - http://www.google.com/firefox - is the old Firefox Start Page used by the Firefox 3.6 and earlier versions of Firefox, I don't think it is being maintained by Google.
Starting with the Firefox 4 version, Firefox is using a "local" Start Page with the address of '''about:home'''. It looks similar to the old Start Page, but it isn't exactly the same.

  • Why to upgrade R12 from 11i?

    Hi there,
I would like to get buy-in from business for upgrading from 11i to R12. I know there are lot of benefits but what are the risks for not upgrading besides losing Oracle support?
We have the following modules on 11i for use - GL, AP, PO, INV, ONT, BOM, WIP, FA, PC, ASCP, iProcurement, iSupplier, iExpense, and HRMS.
    Thank you,
    Vinod

    Hi Vinod;
Hussein Sawwan post already answer you. I just want to ask you one question. Let you assume I have oracle 8i or 10g database and i am making post here and asking " I am using Oracle 8i should I move Oracle 11g? What is benefit"
I am sure you can think first " Its old version or it will not supported soon". Than secondly you can think " New version mean many bug fix and it has new future which i can use in future"
Soo its same for EBS upgrade too, 11i will be unsupported soon so you need to upgrade. Also R12 has new tech.
One other example we were using windows 2000 but we are using now Win7 and win 8 on way.. We were also use 512MB ram before and many pc has at least 3 Gb ram those days... Why we need to upgrade or OS or hardware? Coz new future need source and also bring us many new benefit.
Hope i could show you to way to think or imagine why upgrade is neccessary always in IT.
Check What Hussein Sawwan you can see many good think in it

  • From CS to CS 5 why no upgrade from this version?

Would anyone have an idea as to why there is no upgrade from CS to the pending CS5?
I'm certain the designing architecture of CS to CS 5 is different, but wondering why the jump isn't made available.
Is it technical or something else?
If there is a possibility of this (upgrade to CS 5) let me know.
         ~A~

Adobe's upgrade policy is (and long has been, though less rigorously enforced) that upgrades are only permitted within three versions. No technical reason, just a business one.
Depending on where in the world you are, Adobe does offer a "post-announce upgrade policy" under which you can purchase a CS4 upgrade now and receive a free upgrade to CS5.

  • Why an upgrade fee?

One of the lines on my contract was upgraded yesterday and was charged a $30 "upgrade fee."  I called this morning to question this and was told that it is a fee that has been assessed for "the last year or so" and is not dependent on your upgrade date and is different than an activation fee.  I upgraded my own line in October 2012 and, you guessed it, was not charged an "upgrade fee."  If I have fulfilled the terms of my two-year contract and my line is due for an upgrade, why does Verizon charge a fee for that?  If this is how they reward loyal customers, what is the benefit of signing a new contract with them every two years??

I believe Verizon has been charging the upgrade fee since around April, 2012. IF you did not get charged an upgrade fee in October, 2012 it was a mistake and you made out to the tune of $30. Congrats. You have not been so lucky this time.
What I would think more likely, is you purchase that phone in October, 2012 at a 3rd party retailer. These 3rd party retailers do not assess the upgrade fees at the point of sale for purchased phones. In this case, the $30 upgrade fee is THEN added to your next Verizon bill.
As to WHY Verizon charges the upgrade fee, I would suppose it is because that is the price they have decided to charge. They have decided they need to charge more for discounted phones(or in essence give a smaller discount from the retail price), but because of competition in the marketplace they are unable to increase the price of the actual devices. They have decided to go the same route as that of the other carriers and add the fee instead of raising the listed prices on the discounted phones. Deceptive, possibly, but it has the same effect.
What is the benefit of signing a new contract with them every two years???? Obviously, it is the same benefit you have received in the past, although it is now SLIGHTLY smaller. To give an example, I will use a 16 GB iPhone 5s. The retail price on that phone is $649.99. By signing a contract, you are purchasing that phone for $199.99 with a $30 upgrade fee for a total purchase price of $229.99 INSTEAD of the retail price of $649.99. Yes, you are ONLY getting a discount of $420(65% discount) instead of $450(69% discount). If that is not an attractive enough benefit, then possibly you can receive a better benefit from another carrier. Hopefully you will find one which better suits your needs.

  • Why to upgrade to Windows 8.1

    Hi friends,
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1. Its recommended that I should upgrade it to Windows 8.1. I agree and I prefer Windows 8.1 Enterprise but I want to know that why should I upgrade to Window 8.1 Enterprise.
I did Google a lot but didn't find satisfactory result.
Therefore, I request that please suggest me a link that can explain the difference between Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 8.1 Enterprise (in respect of security, networking, management and devices and peripherals.).

We can not upgrade the E2100L router's firmware on WRT160NL router.
Either you go for a new router or else we can wait for the new Firmware release for WRT160NL router that can support TwonkyServer 5.1.6.

  • Why is upgrade requiring iTunes?

My phone is requiring me to plug into iTunes to finish the upgrade.
I dont even have iTunes on my computer.
Why is this even happening?  iTunes has not been required for upgrades in *years*.
I have *no* backups in iTunes.
    They are all in iCloud
Please advise.  I have a sneaking suspicion this upgrade just ruined my phone.

Something going wrong with the update means the phone currently does not have a functional operating system. So it can't simply redownload.  The update alters the Os at a base core level. If something went wrong it is non functional and so cannot download again. It can't operate, so it can't do anything.
Itunse is there to solve these issues.
And yes this does happen from time to time. Even when "Steven" was around. Installation failures are not uncommmon. It may not have happened to you whcih just means its not something that happens often which just shows how good Apple is at its updates.  You haven't had it happen in years and it happens once and you get all whiny about it?
It is something that can happen and as such is addressed by Apple through iTunes so it can be easily fixed. I think thats as much as you could expect from them.  Nothing in this world is perfect.

Seriously this is not the end of the world and does not make Apple any less of a great company.
If you have an iCloud backup you'll be able to restore everything you backed up. You should not loose anything.

  • Why iPad upgraded IOS7 the charging take much longer time?

I upgraded my iPad3 to IOS 7, everything seems fine, just the charging is much much slower. I'm using all genuine Apple's charger. Don't know why.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • PROBLEMS WITH IOS 4.2.1 ON IPAD - WHY NOT UPGRADE TO IOS 4.2.1

    Hello anyone!
I recently updated to 4.2..that's great! Multitasking, folders, blablabla....
I'm asking why the iPad is so cool??
    1.BATTERY.
    2.3G always with you.
    3.Mobility.
    4.Loud spiker.
Sow I recently updated and it looks like the battery lasts only 4 hours.
Apple need to update the battery time of 10 h to 4!!
3G right? 7.2 MB/sec?? I tested my network speed on 3G 5 bars with "speed test" app for iphone, it resoult that the downloading speed is only 1MB/sec.
Faster is the public network of my city that I thinked that is very slow!
    No battery no mobility!
On the old spiker I could listen the music in my room and in the entaery room the sound was loud! Now with 4.2 the spiker of my iPhone is louder then my ipad!!
    I spend 700€ for what?
I want downgrade! Ok, the multitasking is great but for me the most important "why buy an iPad" is the battery!
Whay is it doing that with the internet speed??
Why my battery lasts 60% less??
Why my spiker is 50% lower sound??
Apple need to do new update to fix that, if this is the price to have multitasking, I want downgrade!
What you think?Do you have the same problems?

-to solve tge battery draining problem make sure you have no running apps in multitasking bar, when clicking home button twice you will see apps you have opened down there , keep your finger pressed on any of them for 3 seconds you'll see them "dancing" with a small minus code up in the left, just click the minus to exit the apps, plus switch off wifi/bluetooth/3G when you're not using the ipad to save battery from draining, that should fix the thing, i suppose.
Another thing, iOs 4.2 came with a badly slow internet and contains several bugs that making some app crashing and damaging colors of some of the apps, for example "run fast" app colors are horribly damaged.
4.2 has nothing special for me except multitasking, which is i dont call it a real multitasking, and whats making thinga worse Apple doesnt provide any official steps to downgrade their obvious "terrible" 4.2 ios, which is totally annoying.
