Why ibooks doesnt have dictionaries in other languages?

So how likely is for me to find an spanish dictionary in ibooks in the upcoming IOS6?

Ren S. wrote:
currently IOS5 already has a spanish discionary, so I don't understand what are you refering to.
He said he wants a Spanish dictionary for iBooks.  That means he wants a reference dictionary to look up the meaning of words.  iOS 5 only has a spell checking dictionary, which is of no use with iBooks.

  • Why does Apple have so many other languages into their devices but Swahili language from East Africa isn't added? Could somebody help me answer this question please? Thanks!

Hopefully someone inside Apple will see this and help us People that are using Apple devices but we do not have the option to change to our own language. Please Apple People look into this and consider it as a lot of people speaking Swahili are using apple products. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

  • Dictionaries in other languages and translators

Is Apple planning to make dictionaries in other languages available for iBooks? I think it would be a great way to practice reading in other languages! Either an ordinary dictionary in say, French, or a French to English translation dictionary. That would make me very happy.
And the ability to turn the background black for night reading

Assume that is for OS X? I'd be interested (tom at bluesky dot org).
No, for the iPad/iPhone. I need to fix one last transition bug, build an icon, and I'm done.
    I've had a MacOS X version for a long time: http://etresoft.com/etreref.html
(Note: “I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.” ) The MacOS X dictionaries are free, but there is other stuff there too.
The iPad dictionary will be an expanded version of my Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française 1935. I've improved my cleanup and re-added words removed since the 1835 edition.

  • Dictionaries for other languages?

I have found only American English dictionary in my OS. I would like to add dictionaries for other languages (not translating dictionaries). Does anyone know where I can find more?
    Thanks.

I have found only American English dictionary in my OS.
For spell checking, 10.4 already includes dictionaries for Australian, British, and Canadian English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, and Swedish.
If you are talking about Dictionary.app, it's possible to add dictionaries if you upgrade to 10.5:

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

    1) The people responding in this forum are just other Apple product users like you, not Apple itself.  Apple Support Communities is primarily an end-user to end-user (i.e., users like you helping other users) technical issue support feature. Feedback will truly get more attention if you send it using:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
    2)  At some stage developers decide it isn't worth the expense of supporting older technology. If I had my way you could still connect iOS7 to OS9, but Apple has decided to make the limit OS 10.6.8  Nor do I like that I can't get spare parts for my 33 year old car...
    Suggestions...
If you are not going to always be running the newest technology always read software requirements before doing any upgrades.  I run a 12 year old computer and yes, I see there are things I can't run (many), but I also then avoid buying any incompatible new technology.  The system requirements are printed on the side of the box (albeit in 9 point medium gray font on light gray box   )  Do not expect the Apple Store people to check with you about your computer first.  I bet half of them were still in grade school when my computer was produced and none of them could possibly imagine anybody would run anything older than 6 years (probably not even that, more like 4).
Why not buy Snow Leopard?  Of course you do not say what model computer you are using, but if you can run Snow Leopard on your computer there's no advantage to staying with Leopard.  Snow Leopard costs $20 which is minimal compared to you now no longer being able to sync your phone.

I'd swear I posted almost this identical post two hours ago...
If you can't/don't want to upgrade your computer, you have 30 days to return the phone I believe.

  • Why do I have 44GB of "other" storage

I have been trawling the internet for weeks trying to find out why I have 44GB of "other" storage on my mac, before we start I KNOW what "other" storage is and I don't want someone "answering" my question with a link to something that tells me what it is. My mac is a MacBook Air (early 2014 model) 4gb ram, 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 and I'm running yosemite 10.10.2. I have been on with apple support (not the phone or in store because i'm sure they will try and make me pay for something somewhere however if a fix can't be found i will take it in) furthermore as I said i've read many many articles and forum post that say they have a "fix" and they don't fix anything. Its been a problem for about two months now, I can't remember exactly when it happened because i never used to check my hard drive space until it told me I was "low", since then I've uninstalled a game or two to free up space which I didnt want to do but with a 128GB HD what can you do?
If anyone can tell me a way to cut down this storage without using an app I have to pay for or without using an app at all it would be great

OmniDiskSweeper and Grand perspective do not delete files.  They simply are tools to show what you have on your MBA and you have to take action if you want to delete data or transfer the data to an external HDD.
The title OTHER is not very descriptive and some people get nervous as a result.  One should not focus on the title of the category, but the actual files that may be included by the OSX in that category.  Based on your last post, the game that you deleted was vied by the OSX as an OTHER file.
    Ciao.

  • Why do I have 310MB of "other data" after restoring as new?

I just restored my device as new in an attempt to get rid of all the "other" data that was on my phone. After doing so, there is still 310MB on my phone. What is this and why do I have it? I used iExplorer and even a data recovery software that lets you preview data and neither showed any data. Any help?

  • Please Help! Why do I have so much OTHER space on my Ipod Mini

    Hi
For some reason I have over 1gb of OTHER taking up space on my Mini- What is it and how do I get rid of it? My Friend has the same model and doesn't have it
    Thanks Alot
    Vicki

    Hi Vicki,
Try resotirng your iPod to factory settings. Typically, that fixes this kind of issue, since restoring deletes all of the contents off your iPod.
For instructions on how to restore an iPod, check out this Knowledge Base article:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Does that fix the issue, or do you still have too much "Other" space on your iPod?

  • Accents (does Adobe have something against other languages different than English?)

I am absolutely astonished with this problem. I understand that in the previous versions (up to 1.3) Adobe does not care about millions of persons typing with accents (around 3500 billions of persons, 60% the whole world population) but I cannot understand why Adobe has not solved this problem in the v2. FYI although Lightroom accepts the keywords with accents (by pasting), does not allow type them directly over the keyword field. And this is a nightmare for me, especially when my name is Joaquín, not Joaquin... This is not the first time that I read this claim, why Adobe do not solve this stupid problem that Aperture does not have?
FYI if you type Joaquín, Lightroom type Joaqu´´in. Different right?
    Best,
    Jokin

Hi Sean, "ñ" is working fine. The problem are the accents because to put an accent using Spanish as language you should press two keys. I am working in Windows XP. No otheher application has showed this problem. As soon as I press the accent key, instead of show nothing, waiting for the letter to put the accent, Lightroom is showing "´´", a double accent alone. The paste is working, so Lightroom accepts accents but not to type them at least in my system. This is happening at least in three different computers using Windows XP and Spanish Internation sort as language.
Thomas and Sean, please, try the following. Let's type in the Keyword Tag panel my name Joaquín not Joaquin. So, the "i" is containing the accent "í".
You first has to change the language to Spanish International sort, then type "Joaqu" as usual and the "í" has to be introduced using two steps (this is the only way with the exception for using directly the specific ASCII code for "í"). So, to put "í" you should press the keyword " (it is the keyword which is left to the "enter" keyword) and then press the keyword "i". The results should be "í" but you will see how Lightroom will type "´´i" instead.

  • My ibook doesnt have a superdrive.. how do i acquire it?

    Hello,
I recently discovered that I could not burn files on to a DVD if my ibook doesn't have a superdrive; I thought I had a superdrive included..
If anyone knows how I could acquire a superdrive and the approximate cost... please let me know.
My ibook has a processor of 1.33GHz
and the memory is 768MB DDR SDRAM.
    Thanks..

The drive you would need is a Panasonic UJ-845-B slim slot load 8x DVD±R DL. You can find them online for $105-$135. This is the same DVD burner that is in the iMac G5.
Installing it may be another matter however. You would undoubtedly void your warranty and taking apart iBooks is not for the faint-of-heart, but it can be done!
If you are burning at home, it would be better to buy an external Firewire DVD burner. I have an OWC dual layer burner that blazes, burning DVD-R's in about 6 min. It is based on a Pioneer burner and supports a higher speed dual layer burning than the internal model. About $140 at www.macsales.com

  • Some extensions have descriptions in other languages. How can I help localize them?

Fore example, CategoryManager has a description and information in German only even when I visit the page while having French as my default language in the browser:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/thunderbird/addon/categorymanager/?src=api
How can I help localize this?

This depends on the extension (developer).
Some extensions use BabelZilla to allow localizers to add a localized version of the extension, and sometimes they also add the strings for addons.mozilla.org there.
Other extensions can be hosted on github or sourceforge, and you can translate it and make a pull request.
Your best bet it to check the extension's homepage, and if that doesn't help, try to contact the author...

  • Why do I have so much 'other' on my mac?

Lately, I’ve been checking around my mac to clear up the ‘other’ which it has taken up 76.76 GB. I do not know what I have done wrong though. This is bothering me a lot and it would be kind if someone can help me on this. It has also caused me to delete a lot of things, that are not ‘other’ to make free space. Like photos, music, movies, and apps. What can I do to free up space from ‘other’?

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install the app in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    For ODS:
    security execute-with-privileges /A*/OmniDiskSweeper.app/*/M*/* 2>&-
    For GP:
    security execute-with-privileges /A*/GrandPerspective.app/*/M*/* 2>&-
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password.
The application window will open behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will eventually show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.
