Why Illustrator change entered size and position values?

Hy All!
Illustrator 5.5 always change my entered size or position values.
(For example: I type 10mm, hit enter, and 10 changed to 10,231mm.)
I checked again and again, but I have no any enabled snap function.
I have Illustrator CS6 too, what works fine (but much slower).
Checked all my setting about 5 times, still didn't find the solution...

The measurement you type in defines the frame of your shape. The new measurement you see includes the width of the stroke.
Under your Illustrator preferences, if you uncheck "use preview bounds", it will leave your measurements as you typed them, but it will not include the width of any stroke that is aligned to center or outside of your box.

Object Size and Position values not being retained

Hi,
I'm trying to set the size and position of a picture object in a report. This logo, should appear on the top right corner of the report.
The margins of the report are Left - .79 in, Right - 0.79 in, Top - 0.79 in and Bottom - 0.39 in.
The size of the picture object should be 1.574 x 0.79 inches.
I have ensured that File -> Page Setup -> dimensions are in INCHES.
I right click the logo and select 'Size and Position'.
I set 'Y' (distance between top of object and top margin) = 0. This is to perfectly align the object with the top margin.
Now, i set the height of the object = 0.79 inches. Ok the dialog and close.
The strange thing happening is, when i re-open the size and position dialog, i see that the values i set are not being retained.
0.79 becomes 0.810
and
0 become -0.010.
What am i doing wrong here? How can i make sure the values i specify in the size and position dialog are retained.

Ensure that "Snap to Grid" is turned off.
Make your grid size larger (.5 inches for example)
What is occurring (I suspect) is that your objects are snapping to the grid - thus changing the position and possibly size due to the Snap to Grid being turned on.

How to change size and position of default TOC

Is it possible to change the width, height and position of the default TOC menu in Captivate 6?
Currently the default TOC menu goes from the top of the window to the bottom. In order to fit better with the graphic UI we are using for the course it would be better if the TOC could be positioned about 40px from the top of the window and end about 50px short of the bottom. I can find no way to change the size and position of the TOC from within Captivate.
I have tried changing the CSS stylesheet for the HTML version and that will work but it does not work for the SWF version.

I am hoping that you are still following this thread. I have a client who really wants to be able to changes the size and position of the default TOC and you mentioned that it would require extensive AS3 coding. I am hoping that you can give me some idea of where the AS3 files are located that I would need to take a look at. I am working on a Mac using OSX 10.7

Can you change the units used for size and position in layout editor?

In Aperture 3.4, does anyone know if you can change the units used for size and position in layout editor? The page is set in inches, but the image size and position are given in centimetres and I would prefer to work all in inches to create custom layouts. I can't see any way to change this. If anyone knows how it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Aperture uses the unit settings defined in the System Preferences. Set the "Measurement Units" in the "Region" tab of the "Language & Text" preferences to "US"; the Aperture will display the Size & Position in inches, if it is the "Book" layout manager you are asking about.

Software to restore apps window size and position after change in screen resolution

I use a 27' iMac'10 with SL 10.6.8, running it at 2560x1440 screen resolution.
Whenever I have to attend meetings via GoToMeeting or Webex and need to present, the resolution is too high, since most participants are on 15' laptops or even iPad's these days. Therefore, I reset the screen resolution to 1600x900 for the time of the presentation.
After the meeting is over, I reset the resolution back to 2560x1440.
Problem: After the reset, all my apps are scaled and out of place, so I need to manually reset them to their original sizes and positions. I use Divvy to make this a bit less painful, but still it's a manual chore.
Is there any software out there that let's me restore my windows to the exact settings they were the last time before I changed screen resolution?

I agree, the ability to remember window sizes and positions when switching between laptop and using the Thunderbolt display would be very useful. It's like your Mac remembering the volume level depending on whether you have headphones plugged in or not.

InDesign forgets window size and position when opening

PC with Windows 7, CS 2014.
I set up Illustrator so that it does not open full screen (I have a 27" monitor) so that I can have panels permanently open around the edges. Close Illustrator and re-open it and it remembers the last set window position.
InDesign remembers the position of the open panels but opens the main window full screen every time, and it's really annoying having to resize and reposition the main window every time I load InDesign.
I upgraded from an earlier version of Adobe CS and that older version of InDesign remembered the window size and position. Why did this change?
Can this be fixed please?

From the InDesign top menu have you tried going to Window/Application Frame to put the application in it's own resizable frame? That will hold the window to the same size each time you open an InDesign file.

Cells size and position; Can they have parameters ?

Mentioned below are the stepsto conditionally change the X position of an object
1. Right-click the field that you want to move conditionally, and select Size
and Position.
2. Click the Conditional Formula button next to the X position value field.
3. In the Formula Workshop, enter your conditional X position formula text.
For example, to move orders that were shipped late to a second column,
enter formula text such as this:
If (Orders.Ship Date) < CDateTime (2004, 01, 01, 02, 10,
11) then 4320
Note: The number 4320 represents the new position that you want to
define as the second column. The position is measured in twips; there
are 1440 twips in an inch.
4. Click Save and close to return to your report.
5. Click OK to save your position setting.
Crystal Reports moves objects that meet your condition to a new position, but
leaves those objects that donu2019t meet the condition where you originally placed
them.

Size and Position of a document"s window

Why doesn't InDesign CS4 remember the size and position of a document"s window?
This worked in all previous InDesign versions + it certainly still works in Photoshop and Illustrator CS4.

This is an annoying problem for me too. Recently upgraded from CS2 to CS4. I use styles a lot and like to keep the palletes for them open on the bottom right of the screen. I used to reduce the width of a window of a document back so it sat to left of these palletes and it would stay this way whenever I opened it, but now every time I open a document it defaults to full screen width and so need to move the styles palletes to access the thing at the bottom right of the document window to resize it. This is very annoying. How do you set it so Indesign remembers a document's window width as well as its position? If you can't, why the hell not? Also tried this with application frame, but it has the same behaviour within the frame. Not keen on application frame anyway, still like the option-click on the desktop behind to hide the app quickly.

Locking Chart Size and Position

I have a document that contains multiple workspaces with 2 charts on every page. I can scroll through each chart and the data changes when I do so. I have set width, lenth, and position sizes and once I set them and go through a few more, when I go back, the sizes and positions have changed/adjusted on their own to numbers I didn't set.
Why is this?

"Workspace" is not a Numbers term that I am familiar with. Do you mean "Sheet"? You say you are using Numbers for OSX, but what you are describing sounds like an iWork for iOS complaint.

I was using Captivate 8 and it was under a tab in properties (don't remember the name of the "sub-tab").
Now, I'm using a newly downloaded version and cannot find size and position (x, y, width, length, etc.).
This should NOT be so hard

Totally agree, don't like the UI change neither. One of the reasons I'm happy to know all moving and resizing shortcuts by heart, they still work in CP8. But wouldn't it be wonderful to have rulers?

It is not as simple neither, because it is in a different location for a normal and for a responsive project.
For the normal project it is under the Options tab, for responsive projects you need the Position panel, both for Size and Location.

HELP! Controlling size and position of new window from applet

I am totally new to using java. I am making use of a java applet for showing images. Each image may be clicked to open a higher res image in a new window. I want to be able to control the size and position of the new window. The windows need to be different sizes for each image - a couple may be the same size but some will be different.
I found this:

Am I correct in assuming tha this script goes in the <head> of the document? If I have several different sizes, I would need to have several different but similar scripts but with different window names?
Do I substitute the actual url where it says "document.url"? What about "window_name"? And what does liveconnect mean?

I have to show Negative values in red and Positive values in black in one of my report.
i tried these conditions

but it shows negative values only in red ,positive values in black are missing
2. <?if:GAIN<0.00?><?attribute@incontext:color;'red'?><?end if?><?if:GAIN>0.00?><?attribute@incontext:color;'black'?><?end if?>
This gives the exact result what i wanted ...but the problem is i have five tables in my report ... so the above condition only allow changes in ONE TABLE ONLY. :(
Plzzzz anyone who can help me to sort out my problem or else SUGGEST ANOTHER WORKING CONDITION

This should not be difficult and moreover the BI Publisher Desktop installation comes with a set of examples:
Start -> Programs -> BI Publisher Desktop -> Samples -> RTF Templates -> Advanced -> Conditional
There you can find two templates with the exact same situation like yours, highlighting either the foreground color or background color.

[GeForceFX] WDM video capture image size and position

Hello to all.
When I do video capture with my MSI FX5900-VTD128, the picture is not centered correctly and not at the right size either.
Let's take for example that I want to record TLC. I always get a black vertical bar on the left side of the capture video and the TLC watermark is also missing on the screen. In other words, if I could move video capture screen to the left, I would regain the full video frame.
One of my friend has a different video capture card and he is able to correct the screen size and position. Is this possible with my video card ???
I have a lot of shaded options in my nVidia WDM setup. Things that I cannot change. Any clue on how I can resize my capture video and how to eneble shaded option ???

Size and position of Safari windows

I don't think anyone's noticed the problem discussed at the end of a thread, outlined here:

It's a problem a lot of people (okay, four of us) are having. Quick summary:
"I launch Safari, resize the window and position it at the upper lefthand corner. Quit Safari and relaunch. Initially the window stays put, but after a while, the position shifts. And keeps shifting more and more toward the right of the screen with each subsequent launch."
I've had the same problem and it makes it hard to switch from one app to another, with Safari shifting all over the screen and refusing to remember how it was positioned from launch to launch. Any ideas what's up?

I used to be bugged by this too. Then I saw a message from someone who suggested the following applescript (with changes to coords to match your screen size and position you want). Mine is set for 1600 x 1024 resolution on my 22" cinema display. The coords are for top left corner and bottom right corner of the Safari window.
Make a new bookmark, i.e. press COMMAND-D
Specify that it should go in the bookmarks bar.
Go to the bookmarks screen in Safari.
Find the bookmark.
Select the name (left side) and edit it to something like Window Position.
Select the URL (right side) and paste in (without the quotes)
"javascript:self.moveTo(190,0);self.resizeTo(1150,995)"
Close the bookmarks window/screen.
Click on "Window Position" in the bookmarks bar and the window will resize to specified size and position.
