Why in Firefox 9 are many bookmark icons missing? (Mac OSX Leopard)

After the 9.0 update most all of the icons in the bookmarks lists disappeared. Others have a dotted line box in place of solid box. What gives?

There is some information in there that should help you to resolve your issue. Luckily, it is a very easy fix.

Go step by step and test.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
    Highlight Internal Speakers / Headphones
    Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and remove the headphone.
    If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
    in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
    Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
3. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
    Do this twice
4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the appropriate method.
    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
    Audio Devices window
    Side Bar
    Click the Built-in Output.
     Make sure that no box is checked under “Mute”.

Firefox 23. Bookmark Icons very small. Can I make them larger?

icons on bookmark toolbar are very small and the toolbar contains about 50 icons. I only want to see the top 10 or so that i use most often. Words instead of icons would do nicely.

How to fix bookmark icons from reappearing in new browser windows despite having bookmark deiconizer enabled (Mac Snow Leopard/Firefox 20.0).

Ever since Firefox upgraded to 20.0, my enabled deiconizer doesn't work when I open a new browser window. Using Mac/Snow Leopard.
I want those bookmark toolbar icons to disappear permanently! They are nothing but clutter.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think my next move is to contact Mozilla/FireFox to complain about this change and see if it can be fixed. If not, then I'll probably just switch to Safari. I lose patience with companies/programmers who do things like this. When I had programmers reporting to me (before I retired a few years ago), I would never let them get away with this sort of nonsense. User flexibility was a requirement.

I have icons missing on OSX mavericks in Launchpad

hi guys,
how would i remedy this bug? in my context menu (open with) i am constantly seeing missing icons for apps and then in launchpad i have icons missing again, only the name appearing. if i click on them they do still open apps if i click on them but id like to see the blooming icons still!!!
this is ever since i updated OSX mavericks to the latest version. 10.9.1 i think.
please help or if u are experiencing it too lemme know if theres anything we can do!
i dont want to uninstall and then re-install these apps so that is not an option!

If they were purchased from iTunes then connect the phone to your Mac's iTunes and the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases should copy them over. If they came from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) then you will need a third-party program on your Mac to copy them back - there are some listed half-way down this page : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
If by 'missing' you mean that you have them listed in the Music part of your iTunes library but get the 'would you like to locate' message when trying to play them then you will need to delete them from there for the Transfer Purchases to work - otherwise that will see those entries in your library and assume that you still have them somewhere and not copy them back.

Has Firefox been optimzied for the new Mac OSX Lion? I've been having issues using the browser since upgrading to Lion. Issues include using some websites as well as google e-mail...icons do not appear etc.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Adobe reader 11 takes over application folder icon in Mac OSX 10.8.2

After installation of the adobe reader 11 on Apple Mac OSX 10.8.2 the reader icon replaces the standard Apple application folder icon. It is very annoying. The reader works more or less ok.
I see in the adobe reader forum search that similar errors happen in windows 7 for years now and this behavior on Mac follows the pattern of lack of basic testing of the application before releasing it to the public.

Disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.

Why can I just Install my system as Mac OSX Extended

yes like my thread says, why can I just choose the option Mac OSX Extended (case-sensitive) when I want to reinstall Leopard? Or is the Option somewhere esle and I can't find it? Because when I want to choose, they are two options, both options are Mac Osx Extended, the other is with an extra option, but I forgot what it was.
I don't want Mac OSX Extended because some games or Apps won't work with it like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or Age of Empires 2.

If you mean "why can't I" ... it depends how you're trying to reinstall Leopard. You can only choose the format of the drive when you're doing a clean install (erase and install) which wipes your drive. If you're choosing Install (upgrade from an earlier version) or Archive and Install, you won't get the option to reformat the drive.
If you are indeed trying to clean install, try running Disk Utility from the installation disk first (before you go through the install screens, go to the Utilities menu and run Disk Utility). From there, you can erase and reformat your drive to the format you need ... the options you will have are Mac OS Extended, with or without case-sensitivity and journalling. Hope one of those is the one you want - you didn't mention which you'd prefer.

E2000 Parental control tab missing - Mac OSX Lion

I am trying to use the Parental Control feature. I can't use Cisco Connect as there currently isn't an update for this router for Mac OSX Lion
The firmware version in the support site hasn't been updated for ages, and I am running the latest (v 1.0.04)
The Parental control tab, that is supposed to appear in the web browser interface isn't there. It's supposed to be, but doesn't show up.
Any ideas why or what the work around might be?

If you want to use the Parental Control Feature then it will be in the name of Access Restriction instead of Parental Control…
Cisco Connect 1.4 comes with the latest Linksys routers. It is compatible with Mac OS X Lion. This has resolved compatibility issues encountered in the past.

Will Firefox 4 be made available to Mac OSX 4.1

I tried to download the newest version of Firefox only to find it is not compatible with MAC OSX 10.4. I also have read that you will discontinue the current version I have. Do you plan to lose all of us who have an earlier version of Mac? Make the new Firefox 4 compatible with my version of MAC.

No. With an Intel Mac and OS X 10.4 your only option is to update the OS to 10.5 or later.

Why does firefox corrupt my bookmarks every time I load it on a different computer?

I found that a number of people have asked how to recover their bookmarks, but my question is why do I have to do it every day? I work on three different computers, and I love Firefox and have it as my default browser on each one. However, I had to turn on syncing bookmarks because every time I logged onto a different computer than the last one I used, sync screwed up my bookmarks, mostly by duplicating folders, but sometimes by emptying them. Now, the entire file doesn't (usually) get corrupted, although today it did, but opening Firefox on a different computer always adds a couple of folders that weren't there before.
Now, I back up my bookmarks manually every day on each computer using the "backup" option with "show all bookmarks" and also with FEBE, which is terrific. (FEBE has helped me recover multiple crashed Firefox installations -- but frequent crashed Firefox installations is another problem). So, I don't need to know how to save/preserve my bookmarks.
I'm just wondering why Mozilla doesn't fix this persistent problem?

Sync unfortunately is known to sometimes corrupt or duplicate bookmarks. I had hoped it may have been fixed with the New Sync but apparently not.

Bookmark Icon Missing

I use Windows XP Home Edition. I currently use FireFox 9.0.1 as my default browser. I noticed that two of my Bookmark Toolbar links no longer show Icons. They show a "dotted line" square. I also noticed that several but not all bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu exhibit the same behavior. I tried deleting the links in the toolbar and re-creating them to no avail. Accessing them was not impaired but they still look very strange. I have rebooted, cold started with no success. Ran a virus check and found nothing. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. Any ideas?

I tried the FavIcons Addon. It seemed to work of some of the bookmarks I had but wouldn't work at all on ones in my Bookmarks Toolbar. One of the suggestions I got from one of the links above suggested that I delete the "places.sqlite" file out of my Profile and then restart FireFox. FireFox would then rebuild my Bookmarks file from a backup. I tried this and FireFox did rebuild the Bookmarks file but removed all of the Website specific icons for Bookmarks. To restore them, I had to access all of my Bookmarks. However, accessing some of the Websites didn't pick up some Icons, specifically the ones with which I had problems before. Is it possible that whoever maintains these websites has made a change that keeps FireFox from picking up the Website Icon?
