Why iPhoto photo stream re-download photos when restarted

My iPhoto phto stream re-downloads the pictures everytime my computer restarts.  Photo stream doesn't turn off, just re-download, it is fraustrating when you have many pictures and re-downloads them all the time.  Is there a fix for this?

Do you have HDR turned on on your iPhone camera? And if you do, is it keeping the original JPG? If it is, it will save two versions of each photo.
Do you have HDR turned on:
Go to Camera App
Tap Options on screen
See if HDR is turned on.
Turn HDR off.
Are you saving the JPG:
Settings > Photos
Turn off Keep Normal Photo

  • Iphoto photos when offline

Where are my photos stored on my macbook? I have not had the internet for a few days but I still want access to my photos. Where are they? Are they only in the cloud? How can I import them or download them to my hard drive? I never know if a picture I am looking at lives in the cloud or on my drive.
I can't access my photos using Photoshop unless I am on the internet If I edit the photos on photoshop, then I can save it in my Photos drive locally. How can i control where my files live?
Is there a way to delete a photo from all devices? I deleted a photo from my iPad and it was still on the cloud on my macbook.
Is there a clear explanation of this somewhere?
    Thanks

You're not grasping what iPhoto is and what it is for.
It's your Photo Manager. It's the starting point for anything you want to do with your Photos. This
i cant access any iphoto pictures from photoshop. Instead, i have to chhose the picture in iphoto and select to edit in photoshop.
is because you're starting in Photoshop. You start in the Manager not in the editor.
I cant browse my photos using photoshop bridge
Correct. Bridge is pointless if you use iPhoto. It replaces Bridge. If you're using iPhoto, just forget about Bridge.
My photos shold live in my Finder app in the sidebar under pictures, not hidden in an app that is not accessible to other software.
Well there's no "should" about it. If you want to use the Finder to manage your files, then do. If you want to use a Photo Manager, forget about the Finder. It's a different way of working, more flexible and feature rich, but there is a learning curve, yes. But it is factually wrong to say the photos are hidden and unavailable to other software. On the contrary they are easily accessible to every app on your Mac. There in every single Open... dialogue
For help accessing your photos in iPhoto see this user tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4491
When I choose what items to show in my sidebar, one would think that when i pick to display Pictures that i could find all of my pictures in that folder
You're confusing files - which is what the Finder is for and Photos which is what iPhoto is for. You're rather obsessing about folders when there is no need. Just a little learning.
i can choose to put all of my lifhtroom photos there but not mi iphoto pictures, which live in my applications folder.
Your iPhoto pictures are in the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder, unless you moved the Library.
Is there a way to put all of the pictures on my hard drive into my pictures folder on the sidebar?
    Sure: Export them from iPhoto
    File -> Export
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
And then don't use iPhoto. It's not compulsory. But if you are going to use it then you need to learn a little.

  • Why does ADOBE use the Download manager when you download from thier website??

it always seems to cause problems. Are they not aware of that?
I know people will say to download elsewhere, but I think the average user is going to try to get it directly off the website
    Then if you go to
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
How the heck do you know which one to use? Like I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit with Vista SP2 and use only IE7 browser
so is it the msi??? or the exe???  I mean why can't they just make it easier??

Do these links to he flash player that bypass the Download manager, give the correct, secure, and most importantly full version of the Flash player?
and how does it appear when it downloads? Just that flash pop up that asks if you agree to terms, then the install button?
I may be going more this way, rather than the "normal" way. I always delete the download manager after I install the flash player anyway

  • Magic Mouse: Why Does It Need to Be Clicked When Restarting or Booting from Shutdown to Get Detected All the Time?

Hi. I'm using Snow Leopard via USB external drive (the hardisk is blank- testing something with Leopard). When I start the late 2009 iMac and boot with the Option Key, I need to click the Magic Mouse all the time so the mouse can be detected and move the cursor to the Snow Leopard icon ( in its boot menu ). After the Magic Mouse is detected, it's good from there.
Is this normal or there's something wrong with the Magic Mouse? The keyboard doesn't need to be pressed though to be detected, it's detected each time.
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless, Rev. 21:4

I cannot see why you should have to click the magic mouse in order for it to be detected ... unless you have changed the batteries.  See my notes which cover the points made in your other recent post.
Batteries.  Here are a few notes I've put together.
Whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries you should buy the best. Discounted or unbranded batteries are more likely to give a depleted performance and may be of irregular size, often leading to connection problems.
Apple’s own brand, Eneloop and Energiser appear to be the best. Rechargeable batteries for the standard Magic mouse are unlikely to exceed eighteen days before needing a recharge although the mouse itself can be a limiting factor.  I have seen reports that some Logitech mice vastly exceed this.    Apple may suggest more in their sales blurb but this is a realistic expectation.  The benefit (if you are organised) is that you can always have charged batteries available.  Regular batteries will give you between 25 and 35 days before they need to be replaced. Note.
Never mix old and new batteries or rechargeable and regular.
The notes above are based on my personal experience, not shutting down my machine and using it for around four hours per day.  Note.  Monitors do not always faithfully report battery strength, particularly the rechargeable ones.
When checking your mouse or keyboard batteries ... Turn off the device. Remove the batteries, Clean the terminals both inside the battery compartment and the batteries themselves. Replace or renew both batteries. Turn on the device.  You should get a blinking green light if the device is paired. Click the mouse to activate it.  The green light becomes steady.

  • I have problems downloading images they show partially downloaded however when i go into edit the image shows up fine

I'm having issues with downloading images via iPhoto they show partially downloaded however when i go to edit the photo they readjust to a full image is there away to repair this issue ?

    Downloading from where?
    they show partially downloaded
Where do you see this? What does it look like?  Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?
The standard fix suggestion is this:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

After upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5 my shared photo streams seem to contain no photos when seen in iPhoto. From iPad the streams are fine. How can I get them to be recognized by iPhoto again?

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • I've been using Iphoto as a primary download program for years. As of today, when I click a thumbnail to open the photo, I get a black screen with an exclamation mark on some shots. Also, these shots can't be dragged into Adobe Bridge. Would love help!

I use Iphoto as my primary download tool, then drag images into Adobe Bridge. Just today, when I tried to open a photo by clicking a thumbnail, all I got was an image of an exclamation mark and I couldn't drag the shot either. These are images I've successfully opened and dragged before. I would love guidance from anyone who knows a fix for this. Thanks!  John

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    What version of iPhoto?
As Larry says, your workflow doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If you're using iPhoto only for downloading then you're best off using Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) and just keep the whole database element out if it. If you're using iPhoto also to organise, then what are you using Bridge for? Anything you do in Bridge - or Photoshop - is unavailable in iPhoto if you work this way.

It helps if you provide details - not just a problem
What exactly dod you have and have you done?
What version of iPhoto did you have and what version do you now have? Of the OS? If you are upgrading from iphoto '08 or earlier did you download and RUN the iphoto library upgrader?

  • Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?

Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?  Changing the quality of the print changes the size of the saved file and thus impacts the speed at which it is moved on the internet.  But other than size of the file, what is the advantage of changing the quality?

I have no idea why you would want to do anything
Some people want lower quality to reduce file size for different reasons
It is an option - if you do pot want to do that do not use that option

  • How to prevent iPhoto to make an automatic event when importing from Photo stream

    Hi everyone,
My question is related to the Photo stream functionality in iPhoto.
Is possible to prevent iPhoto from making an automatic event when I import a photo from Photo stream. It is really annoying because of the fact that I use "events" for keeping my important photo's together (as many of you do I asume). Ofcourse after importing I can just delete it from my event section but is there a way to prevent it?
    Thanks.

No. Photostream creates an Event for each month.
iPhoto has many other tools for managing and categorising your Photos.
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 40k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • When browsing for photos, why does it not recognize the most recent iPhoto photos?

Whether I'm browsing for a photo to upload to a website, or to put into a word document and use the "Photo" directory which looks at my iPhoto photos it doesn't seem to register photos that I've put into iPhoto recently. I'm not sure if there's a way to "refresh" this directory or not, and there's no exact time that I've been able to recognize where the photos are available through this browser. It's kind of annoying, as I'm using iPhoto to manage all my photos.
    Anyone run in to this?

You can't and shouldn't access image files inside the library via the Finder.  The following is from a post by Terence Devlin on accessing photos for use outside of iPhoto.  It's the definitive treatise on the subject.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from
MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility
                                                      Karelia iMedia Browser
         Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • IPhoto photo stream time zone/ duplicates issue

I've got a bunch of duplicate photos in my iPhoto library on my Macbook from both manually importing photos from iPhone when connected and from syncing via Photo Stream.
I've since disactivated Photo Stream, but still had duplicate photos on my computer.
I've merged all the albums called "October Photo Stream" with the other imports into one big list sorted by date.
The problem is, I was travelling quite a bit across different time zones, so they're not all really in order. It seems the Photo Stream copy of the photo (the one with the keyword attached) has the time and date as my "home" timezone, not as the "local" timezone as per the time where the photo was taken.
    Is this by design?
I'd now like to remove all the duplicates and was thinking I'd just search for Photo Stream keyword, then select all those pics and delete.... the problem is I'm not sure which ones actually have duplicates as they don't all have duplicates! I really can't figure out how/why some exist as duplicates and others don't... perhaps something to do with when I was/wasn't near a wifi network (applicable while I was travelling but less so for pictures at home as my wifi is always on at home).
This photo stream "feature" is confusing as ****, and don't even get me started on the other iCloud services like docs... could they have designed it any more counter intuitive if they tried?
    Any advice/ assistance appreciated.
Further, if I reactivate photo stream in future, how do I stop this behaviour from happening again?

I've noticed this same problem. I just got back from a trip overseas and the time on all my iPhone photos imported from the photo stream is wrong by two hours (the time difference). It seems a bit stupid to have the photos time stamped with your home time zone, and it means that when I imported the photos from my camera they're all out of order and I need to adjust the time on all the iPhoto photos. That's not particulary hard, it just seems unncessary. I hope someone form Apple notices this and fixes the problem.

  • TS3989 Not all photos in Photo Stream are downloaded to pc

I have 275 photos on my iPhone in Photo Stream, but only 35 of them have downloaded to my pc's Photo Stream folder.  Why aren't they all downloaded?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.
