Why is 2.0.1 so bad.. Isnt this tested before release...

How can it be so bad for such a minor release.
It now takes much longer to do simple tasks.. seems that switching apps is slower. Backing up is taking significantly longer also...

Seems it is the complete opposite for the majority, but as with any major update, it won't be good or without problems for 100% which is impossible regardless how much testing is done. And yes updates are tested, but many more variables now with different 3rd party applications, etc.
Have you tried a Restore?

    Hi there Amitabhavin,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

I personally didn't play with swing components when they were in the com.sun.java.swing state, but I have a strong feeling it is very buggy and could be causing your problem.
Before posting gui issues, please use a newer API, even jdk1.1 would be fine, anything would be better than what your using.

There is no official public documentation of that alert as far as I know, but according to reports, it can sometimes mean that the same Apple ID is being used with the iTunes Store or one of the other Apple content stores, and the payment method is invalid. Sign in to the store and review your account. You do not, of course, have to provide any billing information to set up an account to use only with iMessage, as it's a no-charge service.
Otherwise, do what the alert tells you to do. According to reports, you won't be charged for the support call if you select "Apple ID" as the product and cite the customer code in the alert as the "validation code" to the representative.

  • Why shrinking the data file is bad?

    Hi All,
Why shrinking the data file is bad?
If it is bad, Then why SQL server has this option?

There are several reasons why shrinking is bad. One of the reasons were recorded already by Louis Jordan around 1950 where he sang What's the Use of Getting Sober, when You Are Gonna Get Drunk Again?" That is, why shrink something that will grow
again? Growing a database file takes some resources, since it has to be zero-initialised. For a data file this can be avoided by granting the service account for SQL Server the permission "Perform Volume Operations" (if I recall the name correctly).
For a log file it is unevitable. While SQL Server grows the file, this causes a standstill for the process that triggered the file to grow, and can easily cause a bigger outage.
Another reason that shirnk is bad is that it adds a lot of fragmentation to the database. In difference to the above, there is no reason it has to be that way. It's simply not an optimal implementation.
Shrinking can be really poor when you have big LOB columns.
So why does shrink exist? Because sometimes, shrinking a data file or a log file is a perfectly legit operation. Say that you have a transaction database, and you decide to move transactions that are more than 12 months old to an archive database,
and you also implement a process to move data to the archive database on quarterly basis. Before you implemented the archive database, the transaction database was 1.5 TB, but after you moved ten years worth of data, you now have a 250 GB database. In this
case, it would be perfectly reasonable to shrink the data file to, say, 300 GB to make it more managable.
Or say that you make a change to your reindex job so that it runs with bulk_logged recovery rather than full. This may permit you to reduce the size of the log file with 50% (a number taken out of thin air).
There are lot of other situations, but the key is: you have reason to believe that the data file will stay within the size you shrink it to. Some people are obesseed with space and shrink whenever they get the occasion, but that is a bad idea.

Why do I get a message something like this following message in GarageBand? "Unexpected audio request...(Elastic audio)(-10024)"

    Hi lizz4321,
A digital ID is made up of three components; a private key, a corresponding public key, and some identifying information. The keys themselves are pretty straight forward, they are just big blobs of numbers used to encrypt and decrypt data. It's the identifying information that gets a bit tricky. On first look, the identifying information looks like plain text. You'll see your name and the issuer's name, a serial number, some dates for when the validity starts and ends. All pretty straight forward.
However, all of this information is actually formatted using something called ASN.1 (it stands for Abstract Syntax Notation) and then encoded using BER (Basic Encoding Rules). When someone creates a digital ID they can put just about anything in there. Per specifications (RFC 5280 if you wanted to look it up) some items are required, and others are optional. Each piece of information that goes into the public-key certificate (the PKC is basically the digital ID without the private key) is contained in an extension. These extensions are identified using an OID (Object ID) and conform to a specification which may either be public or confidential.
There are two possibilities in the case you are seeing. Either, some of the information that Acrobat knows about was formatted or encoded incorrectly, or, there is an optional entry that Acrobat doesn't understand how to decode. My guess is it's the latter possibility. There is a rule that states if an extension is marked as critical, and the application using the public-key certificate (in this case the application would be Acrobat), doesn't understand the extension, then the application is supposed to reject the certificate. It could be the former case (badly formatted data), but without seeing the certificate all I can do is guess.

  • Why do I get IOException on nio read from channel before all data is read?

I am working on an NIO based http client library but I've noticed two problems.
#1: I have been testing against an http server that has authentication turned on. Hence, any request that comes its way will respond with a '401 Authentication Required' response. In the case of a POST, I've noticed that this particular http server does not wait for the body to arrive before responding. As soon as it gets the headers, it dumps the 401 response onto the channel and closes the connection. My library then gets an IOException on the next write to the channel even though I've received write interest event. (I'm using non blocking mode)
Whether I get the exception depends on timing. Sometimes, my writes work and the exception is averted. Sometimes not. The longer I delay since the time I get the write interest event, the more likely it is the exception will occur.
Now, in this situation, I really think it's the http server that is violating the http protocol. I give a valid content length that is not zero but it does not wait for me to finish my request. The moment I write the last empty line of the header section, it responds and closes the channel. Even though I don't think this is correct, my library has to deal with it. So in this situation, I've decided my library will abandon the write phase and move on to reading the response.
NOTE: In the majority of cases, a client would have already authenticated by landing on some page that could produce a POST in the first place. However, for technical reasons I can't mention here, I must support the case that the very first (unathenticated) request to the server is a POST.
    2) After #1 above occurs, reading from the channel will also throw an IOException but only on Windows. Sometimes I get the headers only, sometimes the whole document, sometimes nothing. Again, the longer I delay reading (since the time I get the read interest event) the more likely it is the exception will be thrown. This NEVER happens on Linux. I always get the full response on Linux after the #1 happens even if I put long delays between reads.
I can understand #1 happening but #2 should not. I can always see the complete response data on the wire using a network protocol analyser. The data is there every time but my library doesn't always get it.
In situation 2, there is nothing I can do. If I don't receive the data, I have to respond with an error even though the request was successful.
I have stripped down my library to the bare essentials and can reproduce the problem in a self-contained environment every time.
Any ideas why the discrepency between Windows/Linux? Does this seem right?

I read through the section you mentioned. I realize the connection may be dropped at any time. Handling this is no problem. It is reported as an exception to the client. However, this situation is different. I still see no provision that allows a server to respond to a half written request. A request is defined to include an optional message body (Section 5). The client dictates whether it is optional, not the server. Furthermore, section 6 clearly states "After receiving and interpreting a request message, a server responds with an HTTP response message.". To me, this implies the server must wait for the entire request before responding even if its a waste of time. This particular server is attempting to short circuit what I see is the required request/response cycle. In doing so, it is causing me some pain in trying to deliver its response since it seems on windows this interferes with my ability to read it.
The simple answer to this is to process reads before writes, i.e. OP_READ before OP_WRITE. I tried this as well. Originally, I was not even registering READ interest while I was writing my request. (I saw no reason to. I don't want to give my client a response while they are writing their request.) But even when I do register READ interest while I'm writing (and process read events before write), the read event still produces no data and no eof (-1) indication on the read. The discrepency between linux and windows is bothering me. No matter what I do, I can't deliver the response even though its written to the channel by my peer. I think I will supply some code and see if anyone can get it to work on windows.Edited by: r2rossi on Sep 24, 2008 10:42 AMEdited by: r2rossi on Sep 24, 2008 10:43 AM

This is cause by the way the App Store checks to see if an application is installed on your system.
Basically when an app is installed it is in the Applications folder and this is where the MAS looks for them. So it looks at your purchase history for the apps you bought and looks in the Applications folder to see if they are installed. If an app is in your purchase history but not in the Applications folder the MAS says you need to install it.
For normal apps this works fine but the OS doesn;t install into the Applications folder. So the MAS sees you have Mountain Lion in your purchase history but it's not in the Applications folder and so it says you need to download it.
Hopefully one of these days Apple wil fix this.

  • IDVD ejects dvd disc one minute early, before burning is completed. Why? What can I do to fix this?

iDVD ejects the dvd disc one minute early, before burning is completed. Why? What can I do to fix this? I have checked project via mapping and there are no problems with it. I have previewed the entire project and it runs fine.

    Good morning,
There could be a few reasons why the burn doesn't finish.  iDVD needs a lot of hard disk space to create the DVD -- 10-15 Gigs is starting to get low and under 5 G is virtually impossible.  Reduce the load on your Mac by quitting other applications while you're trying to burn.  Also, you may wish to break down your workflow into two steps (I do this routinely):
    1)  After you're satisfied in iDVD -- use the Save As Disc Image command rather than going directly to burn.  This creates a virtual DVD which you can mount and play on your Mac.
    2)  Second step creates the physical DVD from the disc image.  I use Roxio Toast to copy the disc image, but Apple's Disk Utility also works to burn the disc image.  Use good quality discs -- Verbatim is often recommended; I've been happy with Sony DVD-R as well.

  • Why can't I change to size of my test in emails now? CanI go back to previous email version. This one is horrible!!!

Why can't I change to size of my test in emails now? CanI go back to previous email version. This one is horrible. On my last update I was able to easilt find old emails now they disappear!!!! WTF?
This version cannot change the text size Do I have to go back to IE?

Which email site do you use?
    And some general advice:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

It did not get fixed, my wife uses her iphone to play music on when she have dance classes (as everybody else does), now the sound is so bad that she have to bring her macbook to get a normal good sound.
