Why is 960 x 720 really 1280 x 720???

Really confused at this second. I shot on the HVX200, 720P... which frame size is 960 x 720... but then why when you output or look at the actual file it states that its size is 1280 x 720?
Anyone?

fwiw - anamorphic originally refered to lenses that compressed the image horizontally but not vertically so that there was a non-linear relationship between the image in real life and what was recorded on film. The film had a 4:3 aspect ratio but, by using a lens that compressed the horizontal when recording and using the reciprocal lens when projecting, one could record and play back much wider aspect ratios.
What is relevant about that bit of history is that anamorphic has come to mean the recording of pixels that are wider than they are tall, with the result the 960 horizontal resolution pixels take up a 1280 space. Of course, you know video has always used a non-square pixel. In terms of Standard definition, it has been narrower than tall, eg DV SD is 720x480, which has a square pixel equivalent of 640x480 (a 4:3 ratio). Anamorphic 16:9 means the pixels are wider than tall. The specific width varies with the codec. It is a way to save bandwidth and to get more out of a limited format.

This is how the original footage looks as shot. 960 x 720.
This is how it looks in fcpx. Upon import it changes and nothing I do inside fcpx seems to change it. How can I keep it looking like above in fcpx? I've tried optimizing and not optimizing media. Also, I cant find any other settings to try like DVCPRO HD. Ive also tried spatial conform settings and didnt work.

This might be a dumb question - but i have to make a "slide show with audio" of a power point presentation. I use premiere because i have one long audio file. I export the power points as TIFFS - then import into premiere.
When I render out the video - the power points arent too clear. Here are the properties for the power points:
Type: TIFF image file
File Size: 69 KB
Image Size: 960 x 720
Pixel Depth: 32
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Compression = LZW
Byte Ordering = Intel
I WAS wondering - if anyone could help me === what would be the best format for the sequence, and what would be the best size to export as to make this look as clear as possible? The end result is an FLV being played in a 640x480 custom made FLV player on our site. it allows fullscreen - and this stuff looks terrible when full screened.
Does anyone have any advice for me on this? Id really appreciate it.

Is the "Desktop" sequence setting only available for Macs? I can't seem to locate it.
No, it's been there for PC's, for some time. Now, in CS4, it's for the Sequence Preset, unlike the Project Preset in earlier versions. Here's how it looks in PrPro 2.0:

720 x 480 footage mistakenly put on a 960 x 720 timeline

Hey Guys,
I shot a wedding in SD and imported into FCP. The first clip I always drag to the timeline and FCP always adjusts the timeline to my footage. (I'm real bad at forgetting to go back when I'm shooting SD.) So I cut this whole wedding and it looks great. Does not appear to be stretched or otherwise or I would have noticed right off. Well I end up checking the settings and the settings are set to 960 x 720 - HD Pixel Ratio. So then I copied and pasted the whole timeline into a 720 x 480 timeline yet the footage remained 960 x 720 in the viewer. Here's my question finally, should I just go ahead and finish cutting the show and export it out at SD 720 x 480 or will I run into problems?
If I will run into problems what is the best way to get it adjusted without losing any work, res, etc? Thanks for any assistance on this.

Simply select all the clips in the new sequence timeline (the correct format timeline), right click and select Remove Attributes>Distort.
This will remove the scaling that FCP added to fix your original screwup.

Hard to say. The speed of your Internet connection. Congestion on YouTube's servers, problems at any point in between you and them... When you are connected to WiFi, you will get a substantially higher resolution version of some videos than you do on 3G.
Are you using the youtube app or are you just accessing it via a web browser.

Why is the video camera really zoomed in???

Hi.
Has anyone else noticed that when you use the Iphone4 camera in video mode, it is zoomed in compared to the still camera? It makes it really difficult to shoot anything close up and is just really annoying. Why should it be different, surely it use the same lens for both.

The camera is 5MP. The camera records at 720P which is 1280×720= 0.9216MP. The easiest way for them to record this without using a lot of processing power is to use only the pixels in the middle of the camera which means it will be zoomed in.

Why are my photos now really blurry on the iOS 7????

Why is it that my iPad had an absolutely brilliant camera when I was on the iOS 6 but as soon as I upgrade to the iOS 7 my pictures become really grainy and blurry? I Thought the problem would be sorted when I went to the iOS 7.3 but it is still the same. So disappointed as the main reason I got my iPad was to capture and share the photos I took of my children growing up. I wish I could go back to the iOS 6 as they where such better quality. I might as well go and get a throw camera from the chemist for the quality would be just the same.

Yes I have tried to reset my iPad.
I am using the camera programme that came with the iPad when I bought it.
There has been no damage to my iPad.
My photos were not grainy before I updated to the iOS 7.
It is a big coincidence that they were fine before and now they are not.
I am also the forth person I know of who has had this same problem!

Serious Mac Problem : Why does my mac went really slow and then when I want to re-open it, it won't let me

Yesterday I was working on my computer.
I was about to start a new text on word.
Suddently, the mac keeps on showing me the circle with all the colours for a lot of times.
Then after what maybe 5 or 10 minutes, it got stuck there.
I couldn't do anything except to shut it down or to wait.
So I closed the computer and I came back the other day to see if it wasn't just a little problem.
I open the mac and the Apple sign showed up and I had to wait for atleast 1h so here I am wondering if my computer is broken or just really old to work properly.
If anyone of you knows what's going with my mac or if you ever had that type of problem with your computer and you know how to deal with it,
please help me out.

Why is premiere creating one really big clip instead of many smaller ones when I am trying to create multicam source sequences

Ok I am trying to create multicam clips from a shoot. I have 198 clips from two to three cameras and an audio source. I have created multicam clips in the past by simply putting them all into one bin, selecting all, right click, Create multicam source sequence, and then it processes them and creates multicam clips for me to use to edit.
I am doing that process now to only have PP make one really big clip instead of a bunch of little ones. Help!

And the other thing I think of is that you opened up the multicamera sequence as a New Sequence From Clip, instead of Open in Timeline.
That would give you one long flat sequence, but 198 panels if you opened it in your multicamera monitor

HT4914 Why does iTunes Match not really match some songs in my library? Any thoughts?

I have noticed that many songs in my library are really not upgraded to 256, even though they say Matched. I thought Matched was supposed to also mean "We found your song and upgraded it to 256." Am I wrong? Thanks.

Why dose my Macbook makes really loud noise ?

When it is loading a disc, doesn't matter it's has movie, music, or software in the disc, the computer always makes this loud noise, it's driving me crazy every time, is it normal ?

My Macbook's drive if pretty loud too but I don't often have a disc in there. Usually only for a software install (not very often) or to burn something (fairly often). The fan running, especially if you're watching a video stream is pretty common. If you're really concerned, do you have any friends with MacBooks or is there a store nearby that sells Macs? Go check them out and see if your's is really loud of if it's just the nature of the super drive to be that loud.
Like I said I think mine is pretty loud but I don't use it enough to let it bother me.

Why does AE's 720 become QT's 654??

Hi - I have a project where I need to work in 720x480 to satisfy specs http://vpcinc.net/ftp/RCA/Masons Spots/OMC Encoding Standards.doc.
So - I'm using NTSC DV settings in AE CS5.5 (Mac). The new comp dialog says 720x480 and I thought I'd be golden. But when I render out a QT.mov the "actual size" (according the the QT movie Inspector) is 654x480.
I've tried rendering with no compression and a few others but I'm shooting in the dark. The results are the same.
What don't I understand here?? How do I get 720x480 to actually BE 720x480 in my final QT??

In Quicktime, you can select what kind of "aperture" you want to use.
If you go to the "Properties" window of your active Quicktime movie, and then go to the "Presentation" tab, you will be able to select or deselect "Conform Aperture To...". If you deselect it, you will see actual pixels, and if you wish to see a compensated image, you can choose the appropriate setting while the option is enabled.

Why is apple tv streaming really bad?

I rented " man on ledge 23 days ago. It took many days just to get it play. The streaming was the worst. I checked my wifi connection and signal which were good. Terrible service.

Usually the bottleneck is the internet connection.
AppleTV2/3 do not have any permanent storage.
On a slower connection they download enough of a movie (hwich is fixed size) to play without pauses before allowing playback.
If you use AppleTV for other things the partially downloaded/buffered portion is erased and it has to start over.
First thing to do is test your internet speed and check itunes Store settings on AppleTV to see if you're configured for SD or HD rentals.
Check internet speed at spedtest.net on a computer.
You need:
2.5 Mbps for SD to play near instantly, 6 Mbps for 720p HD and 8 Mbps for 1080p HD.
Any slower for a given quality setting and you have a wait of minutes to hours or longer.
Netflix works differently and lowers stream quality to match the connection.
If the film is available to rent in iTunes it can better to do it there if your connection is slow. While it has to fully download to play on AppleTV (under Computers>iTunes>Rentals), iTunes does not delete the rental until your rental/view time expires which benefits repeat playing on a slow connection too.

Macs no longer come with install discs so it's important to have a high speed connection to access OS X Recovery.
Try updating one app at a time.

Are you using a protective case around your iPod, if yes, maybe the light sensor is covered by it.
If no, try to set it up as new device without using the latest backup, in case it contains corrupt data.
