I would not enter my credit card information unless it is to purchase an item! As Samcolee ponted out they could have a very legitimate reason for requesting this information, but I am very paranoid when it comes to things like this and I would just not provide them with this information for something that they advertise as free. When you decide to purchase something then bby all means provide this information in order to complete a transaction but other than that, no way.

Change your payment information to none on your iphone, goto settings > store , tap on your apple ID , tap view account , tap payment type , change to none.
This is all provided that you don't owe itunes any monies, if so then attach a credit card or itunes gift card and pay your arrears.
Free app or paid app, you will not be able to use your apple id until you settle one of the above.

Hi! I have recently created an Apple ID. I want to download a free app in the iTunes Store, but it forces me to enter a credit card information, and I don't have a credit card right now. I've seen iPhones were there's an option were it says "none" instead of giving a credit card information, but I can't see that option on my computer. Is that option available from a computer? Or am I obliged to have a credit card?

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

If you have an existing ID, & you don't want to use a credit card, you'll have to redeem an iTunes gift card. If you don't want to do that, you'll have to create a new ID by following the directions here, EXACTLY:

If None is not available - On your computer launch iTunes and click "iTunes Store" in the left navigation pane. Is it an account that hasn't been used in the store yet then how did you create it ? Unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store.
If you are being prompted to review the account then you could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you do so without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054
If not then you will either need to enter credit card details (you should be able to remove them after entering them) or create a new account (and use the instructions on that HT2534 page when creating it). If you do create a new account and you want to use the same email address then you will need to replace it on that account first e.g. by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and logging into it, via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or via http://appleid.apple.com

Yes I did, I have two apple ID's, one which I created only yesterday this is the one which I do not want my credit card details on.
So I signed out of my existing account (tried this in itunes store and app store, on my mac and ipod touch) then signed in with new ID, can't get past the credit card request. I don't get the none option, on the touch i don,t get the pop up scrolling window with all the options.
I want this seperate account so my son has the freedom to download free games etc on his ipod touch without access to my creditcard.
