Why do I get a ? in place of my phone book?

By "phone book" do you mean "Contacts", the app embedded in OSX? Is the question mark sitting in your dock or in the applications folder in Finder? Also, can you tell us which version of OSX you're running? (OSX version found by clicking on the Apple icon> About this MAC)

My e-mails intermittently are received on PC's with question marks in place of spaces I typed. When I send myself test e-mails everything looks fine. What gives?

Why are their question marks on my iWeb page borders?

Hopefully this is an easy one that has been answered, but I can't find any postings. Anyone know why suddenly the borders around pages, text and pictures are now clear/white with question marks in them? We have changed nothing, though this does (coincidently or not) coincide with the .mac to .me transition.
Any help is appreciated.

Well, I seem to be having the same problems. I have question marks for album covers and picture frames. Also, I can't get slideshows to play. All I get is a black screen. Going back in to republish, there are no options to play slideshow. I can't imagine remaking my whole website over, just to maybe find that it still doesn't work. It seems like a glitch that should be resolved by Apple. If they can't fix it, I'd rather find another place to publish it, so that I'll know it's got a chance of working.
I couldn't even send feedback to apple this morning. They must be getting a lot of complaints.
The problem seems to be on them, and I don't feel like it's right to suffer the inconvenience, or have to remake the whole site over. I hope they'll come thru with a fix for this and make things right.
Am I the only one who's had a problem contacting feedback?

Question Mark on Place holders. What happened to pictures

The picutures have been on my pages for weeks as I continue to work on my yearbook for my kids. Today there were question marks on the place holders. I tryed to shut down and restart my computer, and when I did this more pictures were missing. When I try to put the same picture back Pages tells me that "the file is corrupted". This needs to be done in 4 days so I am a little stressed. I saw this question posted before, but there was no answer for it. Does anyone have one now?

Just reboot...if that doesn't work, re install iTunes...it won't get rid of your tunes. Trust me.

Why does a question mark appear at startup?

I started my old MacBook Pro, and a folder appeared with a question mark,and nothing else happens

I have. 2008 MacBook, was working great, now when I startup all I get a gay sreenwith question mark inside afolder that flashes. Tried holding shift key down for safe mode boot, nothin, install my snow leopoerd disc and get to disc utility but no disc is found, all I see is the disc itself in there. Why Are there question marks in my dock that says iphoto, imovie and imovie hd after resetting my dock?

My iBook G4 used to belong to my mums friend. After having it and using it for 2 years, I did a dock reset. Now There are question marks saying iphoto, imovie and imovie hd. I don't have the installation disk with me so how do I get these apps back?

Do you know which versions they were? Sometimes they came on an iLife disc; sometimes on an Applications disc or Restore disc with the original software package that came with the iBook when it was new.
Doing a Dock reset would not have removed these applications from the Applications folder.
If they are no longer in the Applications folder, you will have to reinstall them from a disc.
Which exact iBook model is it?

Why so many question marks?

Seems like every website I go to that has some sort of QT animation fails to load properly because of QT. I'm forever running into the QT icon with the question mark on it.
What gives?

In my QT preferences pane/ADVANCED/MIME settings, I have listing of MIME types and a minus symbol on (Miscellaneous- Miscellaneous file formats) . is that what you are talking about? and does the minus indicate the same thing as removing a check mark? Since my setting is minus and I still have all those question marks in the QT logo, is ther someting else I need to do to get these sites working. Some require Flash Player 8 version ( which is not free ), so what gives with that road block?

Why do topic question mark icons have red x's?

I was given some RH files to update. But when I open them in RH HTML v. 8, all the topics have red x's on them. And when I try to open a topic, I get a TOC Page Properties dialog box. Could you help? It's possible I don't have the right files...

When I have had RoboHelp just up and quit on me it's usually because of a mismatch in CBT processing instructions resulting from me editing the files outside of RoboHelp (it's hard to find a good WYSIWYG HTML editor, and RoboHelp is no exception to this rule).
If you could import the files from an earlier version of the project, that would probably be the simplest solution (assuming it works). If it doesn't work (or if you're just plain curious about how RoboHelp works [or doesn't]) read on.
First of all, you are comfortable working with raw HTML in a simple text editor, right? Good.
RoboHelp implements Conditional Build Tags by inserting XML Processing Instructions into the XHTML source files. If you were to mark a paragraph with a CBT and then look at the HTML source you might see something like this:
<?rh-cbt_start condition="MyFilter" ?>
This is a paragraph. It consistes of one of more complete sentences which discuss a single thought or topic. Do not use paragraphs as line-breaks; they are two completely different concepts.
<?rh-cbt_end ?>
If you find a <?rh-cbt_start ?> Processing Instruction in a file, then that file uses Conditional Build Tags. If there is no "<rh-cbt_ ..." text in the file, then you can skip the next section (but you don't need to if you want to learn more about CBTs).
Every <?rh-cbt_start ?> PI requires a <?rh-cbt_end ?> PI. Block-level elements (<div>, , <ol>, etc.) each need to have there own CBTs; nested CBTs around block-level elements tend to make RoboHelp confused. For example, if you were to build a file containing:

you end up with your CBTs mixed together in a way I haven't quite figured out yet. While I cannot speak definitively, I think that if you don't get the end PI's just right RoboHelp goes into an infinite loop on loading the project, and the process tree has to be killed from the Task Manager.
My first suggestion is to start with a single file, and using a simple text editor go throught and delete every "<?rh-cbt_..." processing instruction you find.
If removing all CBT Processing Instructions does not fix your problem, you may have invalid XHTML files. As you may have gathered, RoboHelp is not very robust when loading files it did not create itself (or which you have hand-edited, like I frequently do); as a programmer, I'm not very tolerant of this kind of cavalier approacy to error handling.
There are a number of tools that can help detect invalid XHTML files. One of the most common (and the one built into RoboHelp) is the open-source HTML Tidy (http://tidy.sourceforge.net/). Some people like xmllint. The Microsoft
Visual Web Developer Express (free with registration) can also validate documents (and is a very good HTML editing environment as well).
Of course, troubleshooting a single HTML file by hand is not terribly difficult. Open the file in a text editor, and immediately after the body element place a comment string, ending the comment before the ending body element; viz:

Try importing this file. If it still doesn't import you have bad headers (maybe an unterminated <meta> element?). If it succeeds, keep moving the starting comment down by paragraphs until the import is unsuccessful. Move the comment back to the last successful position. Then do the same with the closing comment, moving it up until unsuccessful. You should now have isolated the portion of the file that is causing the problem. Delete that section, and retype it inside RoboHelp.
I hope this has given you some ideas about where to go from here.

Try a reset first. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up.
I Really don't know why this would be happening but things that I would check would be third party keyboards in Settings>General>keyboards. if you have any third party keyboards installed, turn them off. The other thing that I would look at are widgets in the Notification Center. Pull down from the top of the screen to get to the Notification Center, tap the Edit Button and look to see if there are any widgets that you didn't enable yourself. If you see any, disable them.
I am simply trying to think of things that could cause strange conflicts and that's why I made those suggestions. It's just a hunch, that's all.

Why are blue questions marks coming up where images should be in Mail, and in Safari.

I have reset safari and my wifi? I have a iMac if that helps. IF you have any idea please help me.

For Mail. From the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Viewing tab.
Select: Display remote images in HTML messages
For Safari. If you see Develop in your Safari menu bar between Bookmarks and Window, click Develop.
If Disable Images is checked, click there once to uncheck.

All of the menu bars in my Documents folder have a ? as a last notation before the spotlight window and which denotes "item cannot be found."
Does anyone know what item is being referenced and if it does not have use then is there a way to remove the ?

Not sure what caused that but it could your Finder preferences.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash. Relaunch the Finder.

Why does iTunes always change my place on the audio book I'm listening to?

It strarted by restarting the audio book everytime I opened iTunes, and now it just keeps going back to 5:24:32 for no reason, even if I just open my phone to check a text. This is incredibly agrivating, please help.

Blue Question Mark(s) of Death

At random times on Facebook and with various ads, I'll get the dreaded blue question mark in place of a thumbnail. It's annoying as **** and I've never found a fix for it. I've reset Safari, emptied the cache, but it's not just Safari-related: it's happening in Opera, too. I tested it out on a Dell and everything was OK, but my five-month old MacBook Pro can't seem to handle images. What can I do?

This thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1334564) seemed to have worked the problem out by adding "ISP DNS servers to the Network settings."
Since I have the same AT&T 2Wire router, I went to their site and added the two DNS servers to my Network list (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/2588). I suppose Safari's a bit faster, but I still can't see the same images.

Why do I have a blue square with a white question mark showing in place of images on some websites?

I have a Macbook Air with the most updated version of Yosemite. Im finding that on some websites, in place of images, I just get a blank space with a blue square in the middle and a question mark. Ive tried Chrome and Firefox too and the images still don't load. Can anyone suggest why this may be and offer any solution.

Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
