Why is apple mail calling me by the wrong name?

This is bugging me ... my name is spelt Liane and has always been so and this is part of my email address. For some reason since upgrading to SNow Leopard Mail has decided my name is "Leaann" and has added this notation after my actual name and before the email address in < > .
So I get Liane Surname "Leaann" <[email protected]
I find this supremely annoying and can see nowhere in Preferences where my name is showing incorrectly.
Why has it done this and how do I get rid of it?

Hahaha liane ! It's good that you can still find a little levity with this situation....
I'm sure you have also tried the reboot option as well?
I cannot even begin to imagine where this is happening or why....what a nightmare for you!!!

In Mail - emails arrive with the wrong name?

I am receiving emails both in general and from FaceBook with the wrong name as the sender. Today I received an email from "Jerri" and the name shown was "Marilyn". I also receive all my FB emails from 'Dina' and they are from all kinds of different people.
I'm on a MacBook Pro, 10.10.2. I looked on FB to find an answer, but can't find anything, but it must be with Mail, as the emails arrive from anyone direct (not from FB) and they are wrong. I did just rebuild Mail, but the same wrong names are there.

It is an excellent question .. it used to happen when I ran my first Mac on snow leopard but I have never pursued the reason until I saw your question.

Something is faulty in the main router. That it is a TC is no surprise really.. they are far from being great routers.
Of course if this didn't happen on previous OS but is now happening since you moved to Yosemite.. well you know where the blame lies.. although how Yosemite is affecting it I don't know.
Since I moved everything to Asus router I no longer have the problem. But my Mac was up to (5) and I thought this is getting ridiculous.
Let me copy and paste the answer and kudos to the guy who posted it.. Jon not me.
I've seen this happen when the local DNS server has DNS caching enabled, but doesn't flush the cache often enough (or at all).
You can set your Host Name/Computer Name to a static value using scutil in Terminal. This means that your Mac will no longer change it's name automatically, so it's important that there are no other machines on your network that actually have that hostname. When you run this, replace "new_hostname" with your desired hostname:
sudo scutil –-set HostName new_hostname
sudo scutil –-set LocalHostName new_hostname
sudo scutil –-set ComputerName new_hostname
You can check to make sure the values are set by running:
sudo scutil –-get HostName new_hostname
sudo scutil –-get LocalHostName new_hostname
sudo scutil –-get ComputerName new_hostname
When you do this you might keep getting errors that another computer of the same name is on the network.. just reboot the TC to clear the DNS cache.
Or if that doesn't work you will need to clear the cache from the local computer.

ARRRRGH! Apple Mail is now using the wrong email address by default

...unless I pick one specifically in it's prefs. What the **** could be
causing this? It just started happening today. Shouldn't it be using the
address of account I was last in? Instead it's using the last address
entered in the email address field in Account prefs.

Mail is also still continuing to remove a line after I paste text - some
of the time. It's always nice to never know whether I'll need to fix
things after pasting. Keeps me on my toes...

I suggest you play with the Send new mail from setting and see if it makes any difference. The feature works OK for me, so I think there's something funky with your Mail settings.

Why does my stuff always save with the wrong name

I'm in a program, any program, and I'm trying to Save As. While I'm doing this I'm navigating around to choose whatever folder I want ot save in.
By the time I've found the folder the name of my document has changed to something else, usually another document seen in passing.
This happens all the time and slows me down and gets files lost. Surely that's an OSX improvement we can do without.

If the file name you typed in changed to an existing
file name, then you clicked on a file in the Save
dialogue box. That's not the fault of the OS.
Besides, don't the applications warn you that you're
about to overwrite a file of the same name? You
shouldn't be losing any files if you're paying
attention to the prompts.
Didn't used to happen that way in OS9 and it is so the fault of the OS. Why should a name change just because you accidentally clicked something else. I've entered the name in the save-as dialog box and it shouldn't change.

Apple mail not showing all the messages?

In Apple mail, for my icloud account, I have some mailboxes which show the wrong number of messages, it shows too few.
As an example, a mailbox contains 150 messages, but apple mail reports there are only 146.
I rebuilt the mailbox and let apple mail do its thing. In the activity window I can see there are 150 messages. Yet, once apple mail has finished rebuilding the mailbox, it still tells me there are 146 messages. What's going wrong? Why would apple mail not show all the messages while in the activity window it clearly shows it knows there are 150?

Solved!
This was too weird to be real. Apple mail does not show messages it believes to be duplicates, and buy, does it make big mistakes in deciding what are duplicate messages and what not! Some of my mailboxes had over 100 "duplicates" not showing according to apple mail.
I found a solution thanks to this topic:

I HAD two accounts because of this problem. I completely removed the problem account from the Apple Mail client. Guess what is happening?? Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.

I went through updates on my three newest Macs this week. As I stated I'm talking about iTunes 10.5.1 (42). I am checking for updates now and I see 10.5.2 is now available. I'll know in about 15 minutes if this issue is fixed or not.

I must have updated this PPC G5 a day or two before iTunes 10.5.2 came out. I was able to update to 10.5.2 (11) and this copy/paste bug is fixed. I'm happy again.

Apple Mail delets messages on the Server POP3

Apple Mail delets messages on the Server Method: POP3. I use the preference to delete message if they where transfered out of the incoming box.
Since 10.6 this seems not longer to work, what is going wrong?

Hi there. This feature should work, as I have 10.6.4 and use it personally. Note that once a message is deleted from POP mail cannot put it back, so this setting once checked only applies to new messages.
Make sure you look at the options about removing the message from the server when it's removed from the trash or after xx days.
If these are set correctly, you may find luck in unchecking the box for leaving the messages on the server and then rechecking it.
Lastly, you could try deleting the mail account and recreating it.

I have Apple Mail 6.2 on a MacBook Pro with ML 10.8.2.
I have sever email accounts set up.
I cannot get Apple Mail to properly use a given accout in the from.
No matter what from account I what Apple mail to be from, the received email shows one of the other not selected accounts.
So this means that the reciever replies to the wron & not intentded address.
Example:
I do an email in the [email protected] account & select [email protected] as the from address.
The reciever will see the email from another address in Apple mail like [email protected] that I did not select.

If you are talking about your Apple ID - go to Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap the incorrect ID and sign out. Then sign in with the correct ID.

In Mail, the "From" line shows the wrong name associated with my email ID. I've looked over preferences and account information but have not found where I can update it.

There isn't an email address associated with the contact name who appears as the "from" in Mail. It used to be a shared email address and I already had updated the contact to list only the phone number in case that was causing the problem.
