Why is apple making rMBP highest resolution Ivy Bridge can support is 2560x1660  ?

i think its pretty stupid, i am experiencing lag in UI and also trackpad issues.

Unfortunately with the sealed system Retinas, from the hardware POV you are stuck with what you have. And from the OS POV, stuck there too, since you have to use the Retina-customized Mountain Feline. But you should install the just-released 10.8.1 update ASAP (which addresses some lag issues), hope the 10.8.2 update comes out soon (supposed to address the battery issues), and can fiddle around with configuration of both the OS and the applications to improve performance.

  • Why is Apple making its products more difficult to use?

    Anybody else miss "Save as"?
I am so frustrated with the changes, aka upgrades, that have been made to the programs that are resident in Mac computers (like Pages and Numbers and the new system, Mavericks) that I could throw my Macbook Pro into the Bay.  The developers at Apple seem to have decided that they can do anything they want to without regard to compatibility with the rest of the cyber world and everyone else better get in line.
What incredible hubris to have total disregard for the amount of time that has been and will be wasted by the millions of Mac users that now suddenly find that they cannot do business as usual without going through many formerly unnecessary steps to do simple functions like saving an edited document with another title with one simple command or send a document in Pages as an attachment to an email.  Pages documents used to attach, no problem.  Now Gmail, Outlook and every other email program I know of won’t let you attach a Pages document. You have to convert it into some other format, like Word or PDF, to get it to go.
And even worse, we were not warned of the consequences of these “improvements” or how to deal with them. Updates are supposed to make life easier for end users, not create extra layers of complication that require diligent research to find work arounds. I personally need to spend my time taking care of my business, not having to constantly reeducate myself about using the tools that previously worked almost flawlessly.
My conclusion is that either Apple has gone off the deep end or has been infiltrated by Microsoft operatives with the goal of frustrating Apple users so much that they toss their Macs and go back to Windows.
I used to love using my Mac and would like to return to that feeling. We need a mass movement to get their attention.
Anyone who’s with me on this got any good ideas about how we can actually get the folks at Apple to correct this flawed course of action and return to the simplicity that made Macs the computer for "the rest of us"?

  • Why is Apple the only people on earth that can't send an email to my gmail account? I use my gmail account for everything and people call me with it. Now I can't use it because Apple can't verify it.

Why is Apple the only people on earth that cannot send an email to my gmail account? I used my gmail account to receive calls on Face Time until the last update and now Apple "cannot verify" the account and they have sent over 100 "verification emails" but I have yet to receive one. Amazing!

My original Apple ID was my bellsouth address. When I got iCloud, it was merged with the .me address. I can use either to log into the same iCloud, Facetime, iTunes & Apple Store, and Messages. Seems you have 2 separate Apple IDs (one for iCloud and one for iTunes).
If you log into any app using the Apple ID such as Facetime, only the email addresses associated with it will work. You can log into the Manage Apple ID website and see what addresses are associated with that login.
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
I don't know of any way to merge seperate Apple IDs. You can try changing the one you use for iTunes to the one you use for iCloud and see if it works. If not, you can change the iTunes one to a different email address. Then you can disassociated the gmail address for the iTunes Apple ID and then associated it with the iCloud Apple ID. Once it's disassociated from one account, you will then be able to add it to the other and get the verification email.

  • Max resolution the iMac can support

    Hi kids,
I'm using the desktop extender hack with my 800 and 1.25 iMacs. Right now, I'm using 17 inch monitors(1280x1024). What's max resolution these iMacs can drive? I want to upgrade the monitors to 20inch, 22inch, or maybe even 24inches. Anyone have experience with this or know exactly what these video cards can take? Thanks.

Ok. I went ahead and did it. I got a PrincetonVL2018W 20" LCD Monitor. But I'm having Problems. When I first hook it up to my 1.25 G4 iMac, I could only get it to 800x600 resolution. But after a long while of playing with it and trying different resolutions, I finally got it to 1680x1050. It looks great. However, if I turn off the monitor for about 3 minutes and then turn it back on, I have to start the whole long process all over again. I also tried this process on my iBook and got the same results. Does anybody know why this is?

  • Why is Apple making us all live in 1999?

I am a big fan of Apple.
I would like to know, I'm looking at you here Mr Moderators & Mr Apple Software Designers, is Apple ever going to catch up with Windows in terms of allowing users to customise the backgrounds of their windows? Grey/Silver is definitely a bit 1999. And what's with the top bar? A bit of a dated block don't you think?
I find this especially odd seeing as Apple seems to be pushing out to the forefront of enhancing the user experience in almost every other field!
Now, of course you can hack or use third-party apps to customise, but why isn't it integral into Apple's roots? Is it really difficult to do?
So I guess my real question is: why are we using the newest cool tech and in new amazing ways, ...in 1999 style?!
(Also, I loved iWeb. It's a big shame to hear that it's being discontinued and I'll have to move to Rapidweaver or similar - I like the basic Apple products and their core integration into the OS. Of note for all of those that love to say: "you should just learn to code!": I actually can code! I have used Dreamweaver and CSS for years! I just appreciate the simlper things in life too! But that shame is for another discussion!)

Hi Barney. Well I completely see your point. I do love and enjoy my content!
I must ask though; why the hostility? Does my question hoping to bring about change really anger you enough to reply in a childish way? I see you have lots of posts. Do you reply to everyone asking a question similar to this angrily?
Although I would have a few reasons, which by the sounds of your reply, you won't care for much at all.
Firstly, I like things to be customisable and presentable. If we have all of these new fantastic things to do why not present them nicely too? You say 'flashy borders' but it is well established that presentation in numerous graphical forms utilising colours, etc. both inspire and enthuse audiences. Correct?
Secondly, I do enjoy not having to see the same dull greyness continually. I suppose a poor man's retort would be; if you're happy not to 'spice things up' with flashy borders and things then why should we bother having exciting content in the first place? I mean, why don't we just simply type words solely into Notepad (MS I know) and then be done with it? The answer is because the borders are just a small part of what drives the user experience forward.
Thirdly, your reply seems to imply that we should just be happy with what we have? Whilst I suppose you're correct I can only assume that an attitude like that merely breeds acceptance of common dogma and is not part of those few who enjoy driving change forward.
You are right though. Flashy borders don't improve the content. But then nor does the design of a iPod 6th gen over the 1st gen, besides the new flashy bits, they both still play music right?

  • Why is Apple store appointment are given if they can't serve you

The worst experience of my life at Apple store Rundle mall, Adelaide. I made an appointment for 1:00pm and went ro the store early at 12:40pm. when i asked them they told me to wait until 1:00pm to be served. when i went back to them at 1:00pm they gave me place to sit and wait. i waited for 20minutes. when i asked them how long it will take, they said its not sure how it will take and told me to wait more. when i told them can you keep my phone for service and i will come later when it is fixed. they told no they can't keep, if i have to give the phone for service i have to send it by post. i just lost my patience and left. it is ridiculous apple store service after they spend huge amount of money on store and useless people on job for service.

You really should have asked to speak to the store manager. Once he was there, you should have told him what had happened. That is totally uncalled for at any store.

  • HT1848 Why did Apple hide the Transfer Purchase command?

Why is Apple making their software difficult to navigate (ie cutting the 'Save As' function from Mountain Liion?' Idiotic.

It's not really hidden; it's under Devices, not an illogical grouping with other device-related commands. But if you want to comment to Apple on the subject, you can do so via their feedback page:

  • Why is apple requiring me to enter a gift card credit card or itunes card in order set up a new account

why is apple requiring me to enter a gift card, credit card or itunes card in order to set up a new account

My assumption is because you aren't setting the account properly. You can't set up an Apple ID and then try to use it without a credit card unless you follow a very specific procedure which you obviously did not do.
You have to try to download a free app first - before you set up the ID - and then create the ID from the prompts. You set the ID up first and it doesn't work that way. You will have to either enter a credit card now and then delete it later, or start all over again with a new ID. If you start all over again, you have to sign out of the current ID in Settings>Store - tap your ID and sign out. You will also need another email address because you already associated your email address with the first ID.
This explains how to set up an Apple ID/iTunes account without a credit card.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534
As I said, this is my assumption, if there is something else going on here, post back with something more detailed other than "why is Apple requiring ...." We can't possibly know why you can't do without some more information to go on.

  • Z68MA-G45(B3) Ivy Bridge Bios

I contacted MSI support to see if they where going to update my BIOS (Z68Ma-G45(B3)) to work for the the Ivy Bridge CPU and they Sent A link to this beta bios (link removed, not for public).
I tried to flash the BIOS using the forum bios tool but the tool  would not let me set up my usb device saying it was not a compatible bios file.
So I unrared the file and used the M-Flash utility in the bios and it flashed correctly.
The next thing is to see if it actually will work with a Ivy Bridge CPU when they are released. I assume it will but you never know.
Oh and does anyone know of a release date for the Ivy Bridge CPU'S?
    Kevin

Last rumor was sometime in April.
    Added: Before the forum is overloaded with questions about Ivy Bridge CPU support for all the 6 series mainboards, check with MSI Tech Support here;
    http://support.msi.com
PLEASE don't bug the forum with 'any news' posts, all are MSI product users here just like you, yes, even the admins & mods. A good place to watch would be the Beta BIOS Section found in the Overclockers. Undervolting, Modding Corner Section of the forum. Jack does his best to keep it updated as he receives anything to post. PLEASE, don't bug him about it either.
