Why is Apple supporting Windows XP

The new 3.0 Public beta is out but I can't use it on my mac because I am running OS 10.3.9 but somebody running Windows XP can use it? I have to use Firefox all because I don't feel the need to upgrade. Does this seem strange to anybody else?

Ask in the Mac Safari 3 beta forum.
No, software often has had a minimum OS requirement. Tiger - and there is now 10.4.10 - has made a lot of changes. The latest OmniWeb 5 requires something like 10.4.4+ or maybe even higher.
XP is still what most use, and Vista is still pre-SP1 and in shakedown cruise mode.

From your point of view and the framing of your question, Apple does indeed support WIndows better than Mac for the limited issue of iCloud.

...YET, Leopard and Snow Leopard are NOT iCloud compatible. How can that be justified? Obviously, Apple can make iCloud available to Snow Leopard, but disdains us...
Historically speaking, Apple has rarely gone backwards in its OS development.  Once they have released a new OS with new technology, I can only think of one example of when they backtracked:  They released TrueType technology in System 7 and then released System 6.0.8, which included TrueType technology for continuing System 6 users.
So it is part of their culture to move forward and not backwards.  Other examples:
    •  Inclusion of the then novel SONY 3.5" disk drive in its release of the first Macintosh (and not the industry standard 5.25" drive); after its use in the Lisa and adoption for the Apple II series of computers.
    •  Elimination of the floppy drive completely in the release of the first iMac.
    •  Use of then novel AAC audio compression as "state of the art" compression for the iPod release in 2001 instead of the outdated mp3 standard.
    •  Refusal to allow use of FLASH in iPod Touch/iPhone/iPads.
How could they justify these decisions?  The marketplace justified them for Apple!
So, yes, they could release 10.6.9 with iCloud support.  But why now, if not then?

  • My iphone 4 will not update apps.   In trying to do so, it goes directly to the app instead of updating.  I have read prior comments and answers, and have tried suggested solutions to no avail.  Why is apple support not addressing this issue?

Muy iphone 4 will not update apps.  In trying to do so, it goes directly to the app.  I have read pages and pages on this same issue in Apple support communities, and have tried the suggested solutions to no avail.  Why is Apple support not addressing this issue?

I believe this issue was addressed in a software update. If your signature is accurate, you are about five updates behind

  • Why wont apple support conmtact me

why wont apple support contact me?

I'm really surprised that you were told to just wait for an update. Are you using a particular piece of software that causes this? If "application X" causes the issue then maybe they are right and you need an update to run the software normally. But let's assume that's not it unless you say differently.
    Here's a couple things:
    1) I get that you are upset, but don't freak out. It's not going to make the rep on the phone help you anymore.
    2) Is there a mac store near you? If so, make a genius bar appt. and go there.
    3) If not call Apple and tell them your problem. Calmly. Not in a "you guys won't help me!" way. Tell them you want to send it in (because you have no store close to you. If you do have a store close to you see #2) so they can fix it. Firmly but politely let them know that this is a real problem. Don't ask for a NEW computer. The fact is, you don't need a NEW computer, you need yours fixed.
    4) If they do not help you then ask to speak to a supervisor and repeat.
It's very important that you stop asking for a new computer. That isn't how it works. Anywhere. You just need yours fixed. If there really is a software upgrade needed ask them to explain it to you so you understand the problem. But most importantly stay calm.
Let us know how it goes JC.
    Cheers.

  • DOES APPLE SUPPORT WINDOWS 8 FOR IPOD CLASSIC?

Switching from an older pc to a new laptop with windows 8, every time I sync ipod (using latest software) the laptop crashes. It tells me that the unit is damaged, however it still works fine on the old computer runiing windows 7. Any help would be appreciated!

Apple does not presently support Windows 8.

  • Why does Apple support print those "Hello" booklets that came with my new iMac in super small fonts?

Yesterday I purchased the latest available 27inch iMac from my local Apple only dealer.     ( It sure beats my very first Mac which was an LC520. )
The included in the box printed quick start guide named "Hello" was printed using a font size very close to zero.
Who are these people at Apple support that can read such small fonts with using 20X powered magnifying lenses
    Are they somewhat...
What a waste of mony Apple!

I think it's a point worth making.  It is virtually unreadable.
On reflection, I'm wondering if there is an obligation in some countries to provide such information with a device.   This could be Apple's way of complying while spending the absolute minimum.

  • Why no apple support

Having read Apple's help pages extensively for an answer - their advice is to contact my email provider for support.
Since Apple are my email providers - I need to contact them to get my email working again.
However, there is no Apple Support offered.
Has anyone out there got a clue what to do in such instances ?
I really need access to my email urgently

iWeb publishing, MobileMe Gallery, and iDisk will all disappear as the company sunsets its current online service in favor of iCloud.
Other MobileMe services—including syncing of Mac Dashboard widgets, keychains, Dock items, and System Preferences—will not be part of iCloud, Apple says. Those syncing services will stop working as soon you migrate from MobileMe to iCloud. • Why No Apple Support return calls?

Scheduled 3 calls with Apple Support, got one call and then hung up on. Called AppleCare directly, busy signal. Never had this happen before. Is anyone else having this problem? My iPhone is on, my sound is on, I used it earlier for a call, no problem.

  • Two questions, why will Apple support not recognise a uk telephone number and why will the diagnostics button on an e-mail work!  It is driving me crazy trying to get through to Apple support!!!!

I have been trying to get through to Apple support for around three hours.  Apple send me an e-mail asking me to click on the IOS7 diagnostics button but when I do there is no response, i.e. the button does not work.  When I try to schedule with my UK telephone number I ]get an e-mail  saying that Apple could not contact me and if I enter the international dialling code i.e (0044) it will not accept this as it is invalid!  This is driving me mad as I got through to Apple support in USA first time this morning.  Help!

  • Why does Apple Mail window default to wrong monitor?

I have two 30" Apple monitors with a MacPro 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon running Mavericks. In previous systems I would have my Apple Mail open on the second monitor. Since Mavericks nothing I do will let Mail open anywhere but in its default position, which is upper left corner of main monitor. Very frustrating. I must manually move it every time I launch Mail. Any solutions out there?
fyi - iTunes window opens to the same position where I had closed it, which is on my second monitor where I want it.

I have this with Firefox once in a while. To get it back where I want it, I open FF and drag it to the display I want it on & maximize it. Then, I open iTunes on the display I DON'T want FF in, and maximize it. Open a few tabs and close the window. When I reopen it iTunes prevents FF from opening on the other display and it goes back to the secondary.
That may or may not work with Mail

  • Why do Apple support communities keep deleting discussions about cancelled gift cards?

It is a lot of  work to advise the Apple consuming community of the problems people face trying to redeem cancelled gift cards.  Why do you keep deleting these discussions?  They are very informative and they are keeping within the agreement posted on your site.  I spent a lot of time informing the community about the futility of trying to get information about a $15 gift card cancellation, and other people chimed in with the same problem, and then I logged on and found you have deleted the entire discussion?  There was nothing improper or not factual.

Finally, it appears we have an answer in the form of resolution of the Bafard class action lawsuit in California.  There was apparently information revealed in the lawsuit that the third party administrator for the cards cancelled about 290,000 cards (but can't really tell how many).
From a news article posted in late February 2014:
"Based on the informal discovery completed in the case so far, the motion said the total number of deactivated iTunes gift cards was about 290,000."
“Defendants possess no information that permits direct identification of the individual gift card holder for the majority of affected gift cards, and are thus unable to ascertain the precise number of individuals holding deactivated cards,” the motion said."
"Prepaid card company InComm Holdings Inc., also named as a defendant, provides services to Best Buy for the activation and deactivation of the iTunes gift cards, according to the complaint. The suit says Apple and Best Buy responded to a prelawsuit notice by claiming InComm was responsible for system-related issues with redeeming the gift cards."
According to the article, all remaining gift cards will be reactivated!!!  So all we have to do is try to use our "deactiviated" cards again.
Not sure if this settlement relates only to InComm's deactivation of cards purchased at Best Buy, however.  But at least just try.

Hopefully this post won't get deleted as the approximately 290,000 card holders need to know.

  • Why does Apple support not have the manual for iPad and iOS5 available?  The manual on the site has none of the new features.

Has anyone else noticed that the manual has none of the new features, for example iCloud in it?  The iPhone iOS5 manual is correct.

  • Why has apple support made more problems than had first arisen?!

I have apple care on a late 2010 Macbook Pro 13" and the SD Card slot stopped working. Apple were very helpful, took the mchine in and was repaired. I brought it home, and the only thing that seems to be working is the SD Card slot!!! The Power Cable won't charge, only stay connected from the mains, the in-built microphone has stopped working and bluetooth has too! Please say it is just a silly mistake or setting they have changed...

Take the machine back to be repaired properly. Check it out before bringing it home afterward.

  • Why did apple stop supporting disc installed video games in their macs

I was wondering why did apple support disc installed games like spore on older macs but they wont install on the newer macs. This is really bothering me because i like disc installed videos games they are safer and you have to purchase them in order to play them unless you have a crack. Now apple is saying that discs are obsolete when really they aren't.

These are user-to-user forums where everyday folk (volunteers) post questions and offer answers (technical support) to each other.None of us users take part in any of Apple's decisions and/or why they do the things that do.  Your best bet would be to post your concerns over on the Product Feedback website.
