Why is ATV output so much louder than my other components?

I have the ATV connected through an AV Receiver along with other HDMI stuff (DVD player, etc.). When I select the ATV, the music is always much louder than any other components. Like it scares the heck out of everyone if we don't remember to change the volume first.
I've played around with sound check stuff and had no luck.
Any suggestions on how to level the noise by default?
Thanks.

This has always been a problem with ATV. The latest version 2.3 has music volume control, which helps, but it resets whenever you switch to a different media format (TV, Movies, Youtube, etc.). I am hoping that they will let you define a default volume for the ATV in the next version.
Also, some users have reported different volume settings under different output formats (HDMI, digital, analog, etc.).
Hope that helps (although I know it doesn't).

  • Has anyone noticed that verizon ringtones are much louder than AT

Has anyone noticed that verizon ringtones are much louder than AT&T'S ringtones? By a lot.

No, I haven't noticed. I have an AT&T phone, and the Verizon phones in my office sound about the same when they ring.

  • Is the macbook pro much better than any other laptop?

I am currently wanting to buy a laptop, I am deciding whether to buy a macbook pro or just a regular laptop. Is it really worth it to spend so much more?
    Thank you! ~ mtumbler

Don't forget where you're asking that question.
Since nearly all people here have Macs, we obviously felt they were worth the price.  "Much better than any other laptop" is a fairly subjective statement.  All the major manufacturers have excellent high-end options.  When comparing prices, you need to compare similar specifications and quality.  You can certainly get cheaper PC computers, but similarly spec'd machines with similar build quality are generally around the same price (and actually sometimes somewhat higher).
The areas that most of us would agree puts Apple at the top are OS X, quality/design, and customer service.  Only Macs can run OS X.  For those of us that use OS X, we typically prefer it over Windows (by quite a bit).  However, this isn't always a positive for someone moving over from Windows.  There is a little bit of a learning curve.  If you are going to need to be able to do everything you want, you need to understand that it might take a little time to figure everything out.  You can install Windows alongside the Mac OS to help make the transition a little easier, but that requires that you purchase a copy of Windows.  So far as quality and design...  Apple has always been a leader in this area.  However, as I had mentioned earlier, most major manufacturers have caught up in this area... at least with respect to their high-end offerings.  It's really a matter of preference in terms of which you like more.  No one offers the same level of customer service that you'll get from Apple.  No other manufacturer has retail stores like Apple where you can go in with your machine and have someone (who knows about Apple products) check out your machine on the spot.  Their phone support is also excellent and their user support community (where you're at now) is second to none.
So... most of us would agree that we feel Apple products are "better".  But if you were to go to a typica PC forum and ask the same question, you'll find people who would argue fanatically that they're not.  The reality is that there isn't that much of a difference in the hardware.  You need to decide if something like the OS (which you probably don't have much experience using), design, and support are important to you.

  • Why is menu size so much larger than the files?

I am somewhat perplexed - I'm making a single-layer dvd and have a simple single screen theme (no animation) - it has one drop zone. The movie has 28 chapters so there are five of them, but so far I've added only one montage of photos to each menu page - it's a "mobile" quality in media browser and ave only 10 - 20 MB, then one song. On average these movie clips are 1:00 to 2:00 min long and the music is cut to that length. So, all told, it's probably less than 110 MB in files - but when I look at the project properties, the menus are 3301 MB!!!
The movie itself is only 1.1 GB so what is going on?
It's preventing me from doing the project and I've got no idea why it's making the menu size so much larger than the file sizes?
Can you please help me figure out what to do?
    Alexa

The 2 min clips were natively 2 min - I had each one separate and actually converted to media browser in "mobile" size (b/c the drop zone was 4 x 6 in size in the theme). They were tiny - in most cases I was shortening the audio (e.g. the song was 4 minutes and I was setting the loop to only 1:30 b/c that's how long the video clip was on the menu).
BUT, to resolve the question (I always like to post the answer) - I ended up duplicating the project to try to reimport the video. It was a fresh iDVD project and I happened to click on the project tree of screens - and, lo and behold, the ENTIRE menu was duplicated for some reason (and the movie, actually). I went back to the original and it was the same! I have no idea how that would happen do you? It only had one main menu screen - and then an entire duplicate menu - which I wouldn't even know how to access if I didn't see it in the project menu tree?
The only think of is that at one point I added a title menu link to the scene selection - it gave me a warning that my menu was more than 12 minutes, did I want to fix or ignore and fix later - which confused me b/c it was under 12 min, then but I clicked ignore. Does that create an alternate title menu and send people back to something else?
Anyway, I deleted the entire extra scene selection menus (5 of them) and it was back to under 4 GB.
So, I was able to burn, but still wondering about creating the "title menu" link on scene selections? It drives me crazy that it doesn't automatically do that so I like to add "main menu" links.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Why does this forum perform much slower than form forum in metalink?

I feel strongly that this forum performs much slower than the form forum in metalink where there are even more active and more issues created there.
I don't know why Oracle creates two form forum, which one is faster and another one is slower.
What is the difference b/w them besides here is jsp pages and over there is plsql pages?

Oracle certainly allows you to have users that do not have roles. Or users that don't have any system privileges. Or users that don't have any object privileges.
If you want the query to return a row for every row in DBA_USERS, you would need to outer join all the other tables to DBA_USERS.

  • Why are SMB connections so much slower than AFP on my Mac Servers?

I work in a school with a mix of Mac and PC clients and servers.  My Mac servers all serve out file sharing to both AFP and SMB.  When my Mac clients connect to the Mac servers via SMB, it takes several seconds, sometimes up to a minute before the login screen appears.  When I connect via AFP, the login window appears instantaneously.  I have also noticed that when the Macs connect to Windows servers, which are obviously SMB, the same long delay occurs.  It's manageable, but because it's so quick with AFP, I wonder why the delay?
My biggest concern is that Yosemite connects via SMB by default.  Right now everyone is running Mavericks, which will still assume you're asking it to connect via AFP when you don't specify the afp:// in the address.  My Yosemite beta machine does the opposite, it assumes SMB when the address doesn't specify.  When all my clients make the switch next year, I'm expecting much longer than usual connection times for my mac users who are not technically inclined and who are used to just typing a word or phrase in the "Connect to:" dialog box, rather than an actual address (such as afp://server, they would currently just type "server" and it fills in the rest for them).
Thanks for any help with this.  I would love to find out how to speed up the SMB connections.

  • Mpeg 2 audio much louder than H.264???

    Hey all,
For the last year I've been exporting past projects as H.264s and flipping them to mpeg2 TS on my PC. More recently I've been playing around with mpeg2 settings in Compressor to trim a step off the whole process. All the mpeg2 settings I'm using are working great, save for the audio. I set all my ads to -12dB in Final Cut. After I send a spot to Compressor and throw the mpeg2 preset on it, it is noticeably louder than it should be. I watch the .m2t files back with MPEG Streamclip. As a test I exported a .aiff file from streamclip and imported it into Final Cut and it's upwards of 6 dB louder than it should be.
I can't find ANYTHING on the internet about this or how to fix it. What am I missing? Help me, please!

To make sure the Dolby AC3 setting does not alter your audio with normalization or compression, you need to turn off dialog normalization and compression.
    a) Click your audio setting and have a look at the Encoder tab in the Inspector window.
    b) Under the Audio tab, change the Dialog Normalization from -27 to -31 to disable it.
    c) Click the Preprocessing tab and set the Compression Preset to None.
    d) Deselect the Low-Pass Filter and DC Filter
Compressor User Manual -> Creating Dolby Digital Professional Output Files
Important: It is critical that you set the Dialog Normalization setting correctly if you intend to use any of the Compression Preset settings. The Compression Preset settings assume that the audio, after the dialogue has been normalized, is at the normal listening level of 31 dBFS. Levels that are consistently louder than that result in distorted sound and erratic levels.
If you do not know the sound level of the source file or for some other reason want to ensure the Dolby Digital Professional encoder does not affect your sound levels, enter –31 for the Dialog Normalization and choose None in the Compression Preset pop-up menu (located in the Preprocessing tab).

  • Why is volume of Spotify so much lower than all other apps?

So I've just installed the Spotify app on my Sony z3 and the volume is so much lower than all the other audio out puts.. I have no issue listening to audio normally via the normal music player but with Spotify I have to put volume on max and muck about with equaliser... I'm pretty disappointed about this and if there is no solution I doubt I'll continue beyond the trial as is not fit for purpose as it is.. And help is appreciated.

Yeah it also gives the illusion of crappy sound because you can't hear everything. People think it's muffled because it can't play as loud. I even analyzed the audio to see how it compared to other services by normalizing the audio. Everything sounded the same but at the regular volume it sounds muffled. I really wish they would raise the default volume.

  • Why is iTunes pricing so much more than Amazon

I am curious as to why iTunes pricing is way more expensive than Amazon for both music and movies??

I'm not sure why I even bothered to ask this question if I get simpleton answers like the ones from rominggnome and Mike Johnson12. Limos is the only one that answered the question with some form of intelligence.
Thanks for you input Limos - I understand that there is a difference in quality but I can't seem to justify the price difference which is sometimes up to 50% on many albums that I've seen, and movies on average are 30% more expensive. The format alone should not be the reason for the price difference, this should be advantageous to sell way more material than the competitors.
There are advantages and disadvanteges to streaming such as reducing storage space on your device; but actually you can download movies from Amazon and watch it offline using Amazon's free Video Player called Unbox, however it is not compatible with Mac or Linux and it is not transferable to iPod devices.
There is a difference between competitive pricing and gouging. I would also like Apple's perspective on this.

  • New hard drive running much louder than my orig. HD

    Hi there,
I bought a Seagate Momentus XT hard drive and installed it in my MacBook Pro. It is running considerably louder than the stock HD in my Mac. Is this normal for this particular drive? Can I do anything about it? Its a hybrid drive, could that have something to do with it?
    Brandon

You have a 13" so it only shows the single 'Exhaust' - running right at 2000rpm, which is normal. Your temps are also normal. So I would rule out the fan noise as a possibility. It could be as mende1 says - that Seagate drives are just 'noisier'... I have 4 external drives that are all Seagate and never here them (but they're in enclosures... both Thunderbolt and FireWire 800 connections).
I think that you'll be fine - just don't let any 'chirping' go unheeded.

  • Music on iTunes much louder than on iPod

Today I decided to listen to on itunes with my 20 inch imac with OS X 10.7 and iTunes 10.4. The instant I started listening I noticed a major difference in the volume levels. I played it on 3 squares away from the top volume wich is what I usually use on my ipod and it almost blew my ears off. The music was way louder. I use the same headphones ( Shure 750DJ) on the same songs. Sound check, sound enhancer and equalizer were all off on both devices ( I was listening to the album Endgame by Rise Aginst if it helps). I even did direct comparisons with multiple ipods and other MP3 player brands and itunes was always louder so its not an issue with my ipod. The volume was at least double what my ipod puts out. I've been searching around multiple places and theres nothing about this so i came here.
    tl;dr
    itunes is louder than ipod

    Okay.
You still have two volume controls on the computer.
Set the iPod volume to midrange and set iTunes on the computer to midrange then adjust the computer sytem volume so it is equal to the iPod.
The volume will be the same.

  • Official Apple reseller says "iPhone 5s's camera is much worse than the other"

    Hi Apple support and fans,
I am writing to ask you and maybe get Apple's attention to what happened to me. I bought an iPhone 5s 8 days ago. I bought it from official Apple reseller in Warsaw, the capital city of Poland. And then my adventures began.
First, the plug is British, not Polish, because as the reseller said "we have some iPhone not from official distribution, but it will work". Because I needed to buy an iPhone5s fast, I accepted that. However, the question is still there - is it legal to sell British iPhones "from unofficial distribution channel" in Poland?
Second, and more important, my iPhone 5s makes horrible blurred pictures. I mean they are really blurred... I read all the posts on this forum and I tried everything. Finally I decided to visit the reseller and here is what their representative said: "These pictures are totally fine. They are blurred, as this is not a professional camera". Wow! What a discovery. I know that this is not a professional camera, but I know how photos from an iPhone (4 and 4s) might look like. So I replied that something is strange and I wanted to give my iPhone back to check it (under warranty). The representative replied: "We will not take it, and I'm telling you the pictures are all fine. The camera in iPhone 5s is much worse than it was in iPhone 4s and hence the blurred photos. Just live with that".
    And now my questions:
    1. Is it true that the pictures must be blurred in iPhone 5s, just because it works so? I can't bvelieve it.
    2. Isn't the fact that they sell iPhones from "unofficial channels" the reason why they don't want to take the iPhone under warranty?
If anyone from Apple wants to take a closer look at this issue and maybe discover some "strange" actions from Polish official Apple reseller, I'm open to provide you much more details on the purchase, the store location, etc.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
    Kuba

iPhones are ONLY sold by Carriers and Apple an Apple reseller is unlikely to be authorised for iPhones and certainly would not sell an iphone with a foreign plug
You have clearly purchased a grey import a genuine Polish sourced iPhone sold by a legitimate iPhone reseller would have the correct plug for the Country
Big issue you have is warranty you need to take to an Apple authorised repairer
    https://locate.apple.com/pl/pl/
luckily as long as iPhone came from UK you do have warranty ,EU is one "country" for Apple warranty purposes

  • Output is much brighter than preview

    Hello,
I have a problem with video output. As you can see on picture below, output is brighter than preview. I'm using LUTs and export is H.264 with no calibration or auto correct. Is there any way to have same output as a preview? It's really annoying to experiment with it - it mainly waste a lots of time.
    Thanks.

    Hey Filip,
the "brightness" you see is cause by the quicktime gamma shift.
Please activate "automatic color calibration" during render to get a right result OR add a LUT-Layer with a 'Quicktime_gamme.ilut'
automatic color calibration feature compares input & output and automatically calculates and apply a correction lut to prevent gamma shifts.
    Hope that helps,
    Duy-Anh

  • Why is my iPhone4 so much slower than my iPad2 on my home wireless network?

I have installed a new Linksys 3200 wireless router.  And, I find that my iPhone4 is MUCH slower on the wi-fi network than my iPad2.  I expected it to me slower, but not this much!  Here are the speedtest results:
iPhone4 - Ping at 399 ms, Download speed at .73 Mbps, Upload speed at 1.00 Mbps
iPad2 - Ping at 84 ms, Download at 5.63 Mbps, Upload at .91 Mbps
My cable modem is supposed to be rated at 5/1 (Download/Upload), so it seems that the iPad is maximizing the use.
I've tried a complete shutdown and restart (modem first, then router, then computer).  And, it seems a little faster, but not much.
Is there something wrong with the iPhone?  I don't remember it being so slow before...and it seems faster on my office network!
    Suggestions, please.
    Robert

P.S.  It also seems to lose the connection from my iPhone4 pretty easily.  I have to go back to settings and reset the wireless network.  (Don't have to on the iPad).

  • Velocities are same value but some are much louder than others.

I've been using the pencil tool to write lines in the matrix view. As I understand, it will draw the same note value as whatever note was drawn or selected before it.
The parts I'm writing all have a static dynamic and are all red (max velocity value of 127). However, regardless of this information, some of the notes play really loud and jack my track meter into the red. I checked my track automation to make sure that I didn't accidentally draw in any volume changes, but there's nothing.
I have no idea why this is happening, but it is very frustrating.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi,
As other before me have stated:
What is the instrument being played?
If it IS an instrument that has built-in effects/modulators, you can and will hear large differences in volume.
Also, why on earth are you inputting notes all at max volume? You are setting yourself up for later mixing problems, and also, you are getting rid of any internal dynamics that the instrument itself might have at different volumes.
My 2cents have been spent now,
    Cheers
