Why is battery draining quicker?

M y battery just started draining much faster than it ever has! I could be on it 10 to 12 hours but now half that if I'm lucky. I saw some posts that said to turn off location so I did that but still drains. I saw another suggestion that said make sure programs are not running? How do I do that? Maybe an apple person can put all the suggestions into one post, i had to read 15 posts to get three suggestions. I really want this fixed! It's rediculous that I can watch the batter go from 20% to 10% in just 5 minutes!
When will we be able to watch all videos with iPads? I get so frustrated not being able to watch any video I want! I should start telling people to not buy iPad and instead put te same amount of money to a laptop.

Bobby-
If your iPad is defective, I suggest you contact Apple before the warranty expires.
To stop Apps, double click the Home button.  A row of recent Apps will line up along the bottom of the screen.  Press and hold on one until they start to wiggle.  A red minus sign will appear on the icons.  Pressing the minus sign will remove the App from the list, and stop it from running if it is one that continues to run in the background.
Your battery drain might actually be a calibration problem.  Let the iPad run until it quits.  Then connect it to its wall charger until it is fully charged.  This will calibrate the iPad's battery sensor and make the charge percentage read correctly.
You are right about the videos, but it is the "nature of the beast".  If it bothers you so much, trade it in on a laptop.  I suggest you look at the smaller MacBook Air.  It is almost like an iPad with a built-in keyboard except it does not have a touch screen.  On the other hand, I think you would miss the many iPad Apps that may not be available for a laptop!

  • I have just got my new iPhone 4 white and the battery drains quicker than it should. How would I fix this?

I got my new iphone 4 white 32GB today and the battery drains quicker than it should

So based on that you're saying around 6 hours discharge? That sounds about right if you're on the web using 3G. Games and apps eat up the battery faster.
    Talk time:
Up to 7 hours on 3G
Up to 14 hours on 2G (GSM model only)
Standby time: Up to 300 hours
    Internet use:
Up to 6 hours on 3G
Up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours
Knowing what you were using it for would help

Is anyone having problems with the battery drains quickly and the iphone4 heats up in use and in charging after upgrading to 5.1.1?

I have had the same problem but I seem to be getting somewhere to fixing it!!! My battery was going down at 20% an an hour now its 10% with constant use and 5 in standby !!! So improvement all round
First I did a restore then I drained the battery i started to charge it and when it came on I turned the phone off completely and let it charge to 100% I then left it for a couple of hours on charge at 100. I saw no improvement after 1st drain so I repeated the drain battery and charge steps again with the phone turned off when charging and have seen a very big improvement. I am going to do it again tonight and hopefully problem solved!!!!
The next issue is iMessage as that's playing up and wifi drop out
    Good luck

Try to set it up as new device:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If this does not help, try again, this time without using the latest backup.
If you are using push/fetch for your mail, deleting the account and setting it up again after a restart could also solve your problem.

  • MBA 2013 battery drain quickly during sleep after updated to mavericks

    Hi,
After I updated to mavericks this Tuesday, I noticed the battery drains quickly during sleep mode.
Before the system update, everything was ok. Each night after I closed the lid, it went to sleep and the battery only droped less than 5% after sleep of the whole night.
But during the last two nights after system update, it drained more than 50% of the battery during 8-hour sleep. I could feel some heat on its back when I picked it up. I did not change any system setting or installed any new apps.
my MBA: latest 2013 version, 13 inch, haswell i7, 8G ram, 256 SSD.
I liked my mba so much because of the long battery life. But now It was really annoying because I have to charge it very often.
Any ideas how to solve this issue?

    Hi Hans,
There's another thread going with the same issue as you... check:

I still haven't seen a resolution anywhere... smacks of something on Apple's side with so many users complaning

  • Issues with newest update, battery draining quickly, phone very hot

I recently updated my IOS to the newest edition. I do not know much about the techonological aspects of the phone and how it works, but I do know how to reboot the phone, reset the phone and close out all the applications so that there is no software running in the background.
Since updating the phone, I have experienced so many problems. The most unsettling one is that the phone is very very hot to the touch while it is syncing to my itunes and while it is charging.
I am not sure what is going on in the background, but currently I am in the process of studying for final exams and I don't really want to drive all the way out to see the Apple geniuses if it is something that I could possibly fix at home.
Also the battery is draining quickly as a result of whatever application is running in the background. I have turned my email off from push, it is now manual. I have also pretty much changed the setting of all the applications that use location or push for notifications because I am not sure what is making the phone run hot.
    Any feedback would be amazing!
    thanks

when you have a heating issue there isnt much you can really do.
To be honest these are the solutions that may or may not work.
First thing I would try is rebooting the phone by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for 15 seconds until you see the white apple logo.
If that doesn't work I would restore from backup. If that doesn't work I would restore as new. If all else fails take it to your closest apple store they may replace the phone for a working one..

  • My iPhone 5 is getting very hot and battery drains quickly.. normal?

I've been having a variety of signal related problems with my iPhone 5 and I'm wondering if anyone can offer any advice.  From day 1 I have observed that my phone will have poor signal strength or will switch from 4G or LTE into Edge mode, even if my wife standing right next to me (same network same iphone 5) has better signal.  Phone also frequently gets quite hot (to were it's uncomfortable to hold).
I did a long hike last weekend and in the space of 3.5 hours, while doing nothing but listening to music and taking a few photos, the phone was nearly drained (20%).  If I tried to take a photo it would simply shut down after pressing the shutter button.  I also had no signal (phone was searching), even though other AT&T iphone users around me had signal and were texting, making calls and sending photos (this was from a mountain top so the temps were quite low).
Apple diagnosed the radio in my phone and said it is fine (good attenuation and no dropped calls).  They recommended that I wipe the phone and set it up as a new phone versus restoring from a backup (what a pain).  I did this and while returning from an outing yesterday I had 3 bars of LTE signal and noticed that with just light browsing the phone got very very warm and the battery was draining quickly.  In the space of just an hour the phone plummeted from 75% to 30%.
I'm trying to determine if all of this is "normal" or if I should demand a replacement phone.  I have tons of Macs, iPads, iPhones, etc (for both myself and my wife) and I've never seen Apple so reluctant to do a hardware swapout as they were when I was in the store yesterday.

Did you transfer the backup for your 3GS to your iPhone 4S?
Try a reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
If no change after a reset and you transferred the backup for your 3GS to your 4S, try restoring your 4S with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from a backup to see if this makes any difference.

  • IPhone 5 battery drains quickly, HELP

Ok, ive been banging my head against the wall for the last week because of my iphone 5.
    I bought it august 2012
My orginal battery really started draining quickly 2 weeks ago. when it was dead it would not charge or power up. I brought it back to the shop where i bought and they sent it back because i thought it was under warranty. Turns out because i changed the screen myself a few weeks back my warranty was now void.
I bought a new battery online and replaced it myself, i left the new battery drain to the red and then charged for 12 hours. it still drained in about 4 hours. rechrged again for 6 hours and same result.
If there is any body that has any advice for me i would be delighted,
    Thanks for listening

Do you also own an iPad?  I have struggled with all solutions to fast depleting battery on iphone 4s (and ipad) since installing ios7. I sync via icloud to my ipad and noticed the b stopped if I powered off the ipad for a day! ios7 must have set up some cycle that drained both devices. Now I have set the ipad to manual (not push) on icloud and diary sync and battery life is back to normal for a whole week  it can last 48 hours with light use- no longer have to keep shutting down all apps and turning off bluetooth and wifi to get through a day! Any one else found the same solution?

  • I want to know why my battery drains so fast on my iPhone 4S

I have iPhone 4S since Friday... four days now and the battery is dranning so fast. I went to Apple today in London to find out that is wrong with the phone. All they told me that the phone is faulty and they will exchange the phone for me. So they did and when I came home i charged my phone to 100%. I made two phone calls, I check my Facebook for 3 mins and I sign out from it. There are no applications running in the background, there is no mail set up. From 100% to 80% within 10 mins. I don't get it? I think the main problem is the iOS and the phone itself. Apple why do you lunch product that is not ready yet to be lunch. Siri don't work in UK. Siri only work in US. Why did you lunch the iPhone 4S in UK for if Siri doesn't even work in the UK. You didn't even let people know that Siri doesn't work outside of US.

I have had the same issue with VERY rapid battery drain, measured to the point of losing 2-3% post-calibration charge every 5 minutes at idle (no apps running, and screen off), plus the extreme heat generated. I was even losing about 1% charge every 15 mins while plugged into an Apple iPad USB charger.
I have been one-by-one disabling groups of services, and enabling parts of them in order to correct this. I have after days of trial and error found that (at least in my case), that nothing really made a significant difference until I turned off contact sync for iCloud, with all other iCloud services are on using the defaults.
I have left on Siri, all push (email and otherwise), notification, and location services, WiFi, bluetooth, and have brightness set to a comfortable 50% with auto-brightness on. (FYI: My other 5 emails are all set up as Active Sync)
In working through this process of elimination, I have now reduced my battery consumption to less than 1% battery charge loss every 30 minutes, and hope that it may help you as well.
Now I understand that everyone's setup and experience will be different, but this has been 3 days of initially freaking out and then finally getting down to methodical testing in order to avoid possibly having to return a faulty phone with extreme overheating and battery problems. I'm not sure what the issue may be, but hope that it's just a bug, but until it's all fixed, I can live without iCloud contact sync.

  • HT4528 iOS 7.1 battery drains quickly

Just using instant messenging the battery drained something like 20% during a 10 minute chat.  Suggestions on why this now happens after I updated software on iPhone 4S. thanks.

  • Battery draining quickly

My older iPad 1 stays charged much longer than my newer iPad 2; however, they are both worse now since updating to ISO 5. I am having the charge the iPad 2 almost daily.............
Can someone explain why this is happening?
I don't have Apps running in the background. I don't have wifi on when not needed. I don't have "Push" email on. I don't have "location" on; other than, finding my iPad. So, please don't suggest closing Apps down as the only thing left to do with these iPads right now is to sit and look at them............
    Thanks

As mentioned, there are indeed some bug fixes on the way.  The specific one that helped my iPad 1 battery drain was turning off the automatically "Setting time zone" feature.  It's a location service that is a "system service", so sort of outside the other set of location services.  You specifically have to choose a setting enable the icon to see when system services are using location services— and when I enabled that, I could see that it was on constantly, 24/7, whenever time zone setting was enabled.  After turning off automatic time zone support, my battery life went back to iOS4 performance, or even better!

  • Water damage to my iPhone 5s and now the battery drains quickly

My water bottle leaked through my bag and got into my phone, when I discovered this I have no idea how long it had been sitting in water for. It wouldnt turn on so I immediately put it in rice in a snap lock bag. After a few hours it turned on again and all seemed to be fine but now the battery drains very quickly, even when no apps are open.
I only got the phone a few weeks ago. Is this something that will be cheap to fix by apple or am I better off trying to do it myself?

Also my finger print thing doesnt work but I can live without that, but i cant live withouth a battery
