Why is BT BB so insanely expensive?

I was looking to upgrade from the 40gb package to the unlimited package so I could join Netflix but I just cannot warrant paying £26 for something which is simply not worth £26. Sky offer unlimited broadband for £10. I have been with both companies and there really is not £16 difference in quality. How on earth can BT justify charging such ridiculous amounts for a service which is offered cheaper with just about every other company in the country. When I was with Virgin I was paying £26 for unlimited 30meg broadband, and BT want this same amount to provide me with 5meg!

What percentage of the 50megs customers of VM got a average of 46 megs at any time was it the whole customer base in the UK or a particular area, my money is a particular area if any other its  BS! I stand by my previous VM comment they are awful. If you have worked in the industry surely you would no Ofcom stopped BT group from deploying FTTC any earlier
As for ISPs charging more I cant post the link however I will pm the ISP, they do exist. The sale of speed is only part of the service its what you can do with it is what counts.
Not being a direct BT customer (pay for my mothers line, I live in different county with non BT line)  or ever employed in the industry, you have dig a bit to get support with BT, however goodluck with sky, unrestricted broadband means you managed by other customers  and at the mercy of their habits! If you ever need OR out goodluck with that and if the exchange is crammed with cheap seeking broadband users whistle in the wind for capacity to be increased.

  • Why is the unlocked iPhone more expensive than the iPad?

I am using an old iPhone 3G on a prepaid network.  Love it.  Getting long in the tooth -- time to upgrade.  $650?!  The iPad is only $499 and way cooler (minus the phone part).  What gives, Apple?

I am asking myself the exact same question as @keithfromclarkson. Why is the iPhone so darn expensive. My only reason, is because Apple can. People are buying it like hotcakes. But it still bugs me, cost of production of iPhone is significantly less than that for iPad consider the following:
    (All are 16GB models)
Retail cost    Cost of BOM + Manufacturing
    iPhone          $649             $207
    iPad 3           $599             $306.15
    iPad 3 4G      $629             $358.30

Why the apple store is so expensive and why the apple users can't access for free after spending huge amount in apple phone ?

The Apple store is correct. The warranty is not international, and Apple will not accept or return iPhones shipped from a different country.  You need to ship the phone to somebody in Hong Kong who can take it in to Apple for repair, or pay a third party repair shop in the Philippines to fix it.

  • Why is the black MacBook more expensive?

It seems that you could configure a white macbook to have the same exact configuration as the black one, but pay $125 less. Are people really paying $125 just for the black color??

... and people will pay a couple hundred dollars more more to get a CPU chip that has about 10% more processing throughput. 20% price increase for 10% processing gain.
I waited until there were nice price cuts on the 1.83 C2D Macbook as retailers dumped them to make room to stock new SR Macbooks. In daily life, they feel about equal, but I have a bit more money in the bank. True, you get Tiger for the OS now, but it doesn't seem like it is a huge gain over Leopard. By waiting, the 1.83 C2D Macbook was actually a little less expensive than a similar notebook from Dell.
For some people, style trumps function, and that's OK. If you're a sales rep or similar person, where you get brownie points for style, then it makes sense. Also, if you have the money and it makes you feel good, then why not...? You only live once; might as well be happy.
PS: you could buy the cheaper machine and donate your savings to a charity.

  • Why is the IPad so extreme expensive in Europe???

    Hello,
if I would buy a IPAD 3G-WIFI with 64 GB in Germany i must pay 799,00 €uro. If I buy it in the USA I just would pay 829,00 US-Dollar. OK it looks that it is cheaper in Europe but.......829,00 US Dollar are just 672,00 €uro so why is the IPAD so expensive??? 120,00 €uro is too much money for shipping costs. So Apple what will you do??? Put the Price in a normal and payable area and lots more people would buy the IPAD.

    Expensive in Europe? LOL!
Look, you pay in US 829 USD + TAX. OK, you get the TAX back. 829 USD = 669,10 Euro (1:23898) look at http://www.xe.com/
And... don't forget to pay the TAX in Germany (Mehrwertsteuer) 669,10 Euro + 19% TAX in Germany = 796,23 Euro.
WOW - the iPad is 3 Euro cheaper in US (+shipping costs!)
    In German for the Boy:
Alter, wie hast Du den gerechnet! Du musst IMMER die 19% MwSt hinzurechnen, wenn Du was einführst! Das iPad ist überhaupt nicht billiger in den Staaten. Ich hoffe, dass Du meine Rechnung oben verstanden hast. - Klar, man kann den Zoll zwar bescheissen, aber das wäre ja nicht legal!

  • Why Mac pro is better & more expensive than IMac?!

can you advice me on this:
tell me which one is more practical and powerful for 3D rendering and animation?!  why?!
and why Mac pro is more expensive than IMac?! even though numbers in IMac are higher than Mac pro.......
    IMac:
              - 27-inch
              - 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
              - 16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x4GB
              - 2TB Serial ATA Drive
              - AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
    or
    Mac pro:
Two 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (12 cores)
    12GB (6X2GB)
    2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
    2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
    ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
    One 18x SuperDrive

Apparently you don't fathom or realize what I said:
Better value: Mac Pro 6-core 3.33GHz. You can buy base and throw in W3680.
You can buy a single 6-core like that from Apple and pay $900 more.
    I do not recommend 12-core.
I do not recommend the slower 2.66 processor
I do recommend avoiding the 2009 model.
Better off starting with the 2.8 4-core and go from there.
Ivy Bridge socket LGA2011 will have a lot of other features making them the "to die for" but no one knows and I for one would not want to be on cutting edge with any chipset or new revision. Seriously, Apple has always had issues with first silicon whether 2011 MBP or iMac or 2008/2009 Mac Pro. And always takes a couple OS updates. And then things break. And then software has to catch up.
A slower 12-core is not going to future proof. It is going to cost more and not deliver.
For last year we've all been seeing and saying 6 x 3.33.
why I sent you link to MPG site.

  • Why are Macbooks so much more expensive in NZ compared to US?

    Hi,
Just wondering why the apple products are so much more expensive in NZ than in US. I am looking at getting a new macbook pro 17" and saw it is NZ$4149, and US$2500. So I used the exchange rates to convert US$2500 to NZ$. It came to approx $3000. So why are they making us pay another $1000 in NZ??

    Economies of scale most likely.
    https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Economies_of_scale
Your question should be looked at in the opposite "Why are US citizens getting a discount?"
If you compare the two economies and what people tend to buy perhaps that would shed some light.
Perhaps the "Apple halo effect" doesn't reach OZ?

  • Why is mac book pro more expensive in the uk?

Does anyone know why it costs approx £380.00 more for a 15" macbook pro in the UK than the US?
RIP OF BRITAIN!!!! come to mind?
Will a US macbook pro have any differences than the UK macbook pro? because I am 100% sure it will not cost me £380.00 to ship it to the UK!!!!!!!

Adjusting for different currencies, the costs to make a product are the same, margins on are the same on each product as well.
It's in most all companies interest to sell as much product for as much total profit as possible, they know the less expensive their products are the more they sell as more people can afford them.
The only difference is perhaps shipping and each countries tariffs and taxes.
So you have to ask yourself, why does your government need 380 pounds?

  • Why is the battery replacement so expensive?

I just bought my 15 GB ipod used a coupla weeks ago, and I thought I was getting a decent price. Now the battery appears to have died and I've found out that Apple used some really cheap, crappy batteries in the earlier ipod's and that this is a known issue. So, now I have to pay more for a replacement battery to Canada than I paid for the actual ipod? I wish I'd known this before buying the thing. I sure won't be recommending anyone else to buy them. Not when I have to pay for a substandard part just because it's not under it's one-year waranty anymore. Not very impressive start to my buying Apple products.
    433 CPU   Windows 98

Just in case anyone is still following for some strange reason....
First, I wish that I had found that second url first. Their packs are better because they come with the tool that helps to prevent damage when opening the case. My case is pretty bent and scratched up now. I'm sure someone more experienced would have been graceful, but...I'd definitely recommend the other sets for inexperienced dorks like me.
But now it doesn't even matter what condition the case is in, cause the actual unit seems to be hooped. When I first replaced the battery the ipod would turn on and show the same uncharged battery icon, so I figured that it just needed to charge. I was just so happy that it still worked after opening it. But now aftr getting home from work, during which the ipod was charging, the thing won't even turn on anymore. And since I craked it myself, there's zero recourse.
I wish I had just spent the $93 to send it to Apple. Maybe then this wouldn't have happened or I would have received a refurbished ipod as a replacement. But why did it have to be so stinking complicated to begin with?
What a waste of money. And so depressing. I bought this to help with a crappy long-hour job.

  • What is ANT HAL Service and why does it have such insanely many permissions?

What the subject says. What does it do? Why is it there?

    Had this happen myself.
It does have something to do with Spotlight/searching. Should go away after a while, or so I have heard from other users, 'cause it hasn't stopped driving me and my fan mad yet.
Am going to have my MacBook index and follow-up on indexing and whatever else it feels is necessary to finally allow me to search in peace over the weekend while locking it away where I can't hear it.
    Hopefully that does the trick.
If it wasn't for things working better/faster and most things looking better I might actually consider taking Leopard off again ...

  • Why charge Europeans twice? Why is it for teams more expensive than for individuals?

I see that toolfarm charges US team users 40 USD. In europe Adobe charges team users 86,09 EUR. I assume that there is 20% sales tax, after tax it's 71,67 EUR. So compared in USD it is 40 USD to 93,30 USD. Can anybody explain this huge difference, and is there a way to buy the cs cloud in foreign countries?
Then there is a price difference for individual users and team users. Teams need more licenses. In my country, if you buy more of the same, you get discount. Adobe does the opposite, why? Do I get benefits in buying team licenses?

    gaspedalo wrote:
Can anybody explain this huge difference
Because they feel they can get away with it all. They claim it's based on operation costs abroad, even though the distribution is via the same download, etc.

  • Why are the older ipods more expensive?

    Hello,
I am trying to purchase another i-pod. The one I have is full. I do not need all the bells and whistles. I noticed the older i-pods that do not have
so many options, but still have a fair amount of memory are discontinued or are very expensive. What do you suggest?

Buy an iPod classic. Apple still makes them, and the latest model has 160GB of storage. 160GB. That's a lot.

  • Why is the basic pack more expensive then the plus pack?

It says the basic is .99 cents for the first month and then 14.99 each month after, while the plus pack is 8.99 a month. Can someone please explain this or have i just misunderstood the pricing?

The basic is indeed more expensive, but can be cancelled every month, while the pro plan is billed on a per-year basis. Enjoy your day!
