Why is Captivate 6's HTML5 Quiz Crashing iPad?

I've created a SCORM module that I'm outputting as Flash and HTML5 so it can be used on an iPad. Every time I try to test the quiz questions, after three or four questions, the iPad resets itself with a spinning wheel on a black screen. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix this?

Hello. Has there been any fix to the problem of multiple-choice quiz buttons not working in iPad?
I discovered that the selection positions are way off, down the screen, such that if I continually tap around the bottom of the browser area -- the button that is visually near the top of the browser screen is selected. Also, I don't have any overlapping buttons, so this cannot be the problem.
Additionally, when I publish and upload to my server and run the generated output in Google Chrome (ver. 25) on Windows 7, the button positions for all buttons appears to be offset in the vertical such that I need to either tap about 20 pixels below the button, or stretch the button area at least 20 pixels lower to allow click selection. Note: when I directly drag my index.html to Chrome in order to test it prior to uploading to my server -- the button selection areas function in the correct place, it is only after I upload all the files to my Linix website server FTP (non-scorm/non-LMS) that the button selection areas are offset in the vertical.
Is anyone else experiencing button position problems? Does anyone else have a solution?

SUMMARY: I am trying to use SCORM 2004 reporting but I am finding out ADOBE does not diffentiate between COMPLETE/INCOMPLETED and PASSED/FAILED variables in the SCORM 2004.
RESULT: I can not accurately get the passing/failing status from the course.
QUESTION: Is their anything I can do or does ADOBE have a patch they have release which will accurately report the passed/failed STATUS as well as the completed/incompleted status.
OTHER RESEARCH: I even attempted to post these "proofs" on scorm.com and they have something called "SATISFACTION TRACKED" to accomodate content creation systems (CAPTIVATE 5) which does not follow the standards of SCORM 2004.
BACKGROUND: the report status "Incomplete/Complete" and "Pass/Fail" under the publishing options for SCORM 2004 essentially mean the same thing when the CAPTIVATE COURSE sends setvar commands to the SCORM API... In other words the SCORM API receives the same exact commands when publishing in both modes. "THIS IS WRONG"
why is the wrong? IF REPORTING; incomplete/complete ; the CAPTIVATE 5 COURSE SHOULD NOT "change" the STATUS OF PASS/FAIL when attempting to report COMPLETE/INCOMLETE with 100% slide views.

and cmi.success_status does not work independently with scorm 2004. they both share the same definition. These two field were designed to help differentiate the difference between a passing or failing score and when the course is actually completed. WITH CAPTIVATE 5 they do not differentiate the two. COMPLETE means PASS and INCOMPLETE means fail..
I was trying to use "completion_status" as a way to determine when all slides were shown. So that I can send the final score (PASS/FAIL) the LMS after all slides were viewed and this was the absoluted score the student recieved.

Here's something I found in a similar situation... hope this helps!
After publishing your CP5 project as a SCORM 2004 zip file, unzip the file so you can get into the separate files. Open the imsmanifest.xml file with a text editor; I like using Notepad++. Search for the line starting with <imsss:minNormalizedMeasure>. The complete line will probably look like <imss:minNormalizedMeasure></imss:minNormalizedMeasure>, this is the line that is supposed to contain your passing score (at least for our LMS). So, if your passing score is supposed to be 80%, edit this line to be: <imsss:minNormalizedMeasure>0.80</imsss:minNormalizedMeasure> and save the file. Then select all the files and re-zip them, I use 7-zip for that.
I found one other weird thing that doesn't happen 100% of the time, so test it. In the example above, try to get a score of exactly 80% (or whatever passing grade you are using) and see if you get the correct status reported. I found I sometimes have to re-edit that line in the manifest file to be 0.79 so it correctly includes an exact 80% score. No idea why and you have to watch the number of questions in your quiz to make sure that works for you mathematically.
If this works or not, I'd recommend posting your results so others can get some ideas. Good Luck!!

HTML5 quiz project plays if published with CP8, but not CP7

I have a project that only consists of a title page and quiz questions that is published to HTML5 with CP7. It plays fine on an iPad, but will not load on a desktop browser like IE and Chrome; the wheel spins for a second and then just a blank page.
What's funny is that I just tried publishing the same project with the trial version of CP8 and now the project plays fine from my LMS. What's even more bizarre is that I have other project files that are a mix of regular pages and quiz questions, and they play fine in HTML5 on the iPad and desktop, all published with CP7; it's just this one project file that consists of quiz questions that's causing problems.
Any clues on how to get the project running in HTML5 on desktop when publishing with CP7?

Sounds to me like you need to reinstall your FTP program instead.
If the exact same files that you publish can be uploaded by your colleague and will work, then the problem is not with Captivate's output but in the transfer method.
Perhaps your FTP program is messed up or perhaps you are uploading the files to the server with the wrong file permission settings.

Captivate 5 not Reporting Quiz scores correctly in LMS

Our organization is transitioning to Captivate 5 from Captivate 4. We are using SumTotal as our LMS. I took a CP4 project and converted to CP5, then uploaded it as a test. The results were dismaying.
Captivate 5 Scorm 1.2 apprears to send scores to the LMS instead of scaled scores. For example; If you have 20 questions the scaled score should always be 0 to 100.
In the example I converted from Captivate 4, I have 15 quiz questions. In my first try I scored 60% on the Quiz. Captivate reported to the LMS a percentage complete of 0 and a score of 90%. In my second attempt I scored 80% (which is required for passing from within the Quiz setup) and Captivate reported to the LMS 100% complete and a score of 100%.
I repeat, all worked fine with the same course published as Captivate 4.
I work for a very large multinational company. This is a killer for us if we want to go forward with Captive 5. In fact, I have just spent a lot of money upgrading everyone in my department - money wasted if we can't use the output with our LMS.
Does anyone have any ideas, and is there a way to get to someone at Adobe if this forum is unable to provide answers?

The configuration is exactly as described in the Adobe help. Both the quiz and Wampserver is on the same machine. The rest is as per stated on the forum thread.
By looking at the results of the Cp5 Quiz Results Analyzer, does it make any sense? The statistics doesn't fit in at all.

Captivate 7 Project Crashing iPad Safari

I have a particular slide in my HTML5-published Captivate 7 project that repeatedly crashes my 2nd generation iPad's browser (Safari).
The slide contains 18 png images (total size <3mb), nine text entry boxes and 9 click boxes. Shuffling some of the content along the timeline to stagger the amount that loads simultaneously helps the slide to load without crashing but as soon as I tap one of the hotspots the browser crashes again.
It seems like a memory issue on the iPad and I was wondering whether anyone else had encountered, and overcome a similar issue and how they did it?
This is a major concern for me as these are basic things that I am trying to achieve and it seems as though I'm spending more time trouble shooting my content than actually developing it at the moment.

I've been carrying out further tests based on my post above and have a few more details.
The items that seem to be causing the problems are nine individual groups, each containing an image, an image button, a text caption and three smart shapes. None of the groups are set to be visible on output and are shown using an advanced action (show) that is attached to one of nine click boxes on the slide. Once a group has been shown it can be hidden again by clicking the image button within the group, again using an advanced action (hide).
To test that this was the cause of the issue I first removed all of the hidden groups from the page and published the project. Safari on my iPad didn't crash when there were no hidden groups.
Next I gradually added one group at a time back in to my project, finding that it didn't crash with five hidden groups but it did with any more.
I hope that this is of some interest and that there might soon be a way to get around this. Personally I think that the addition of a popup slidelet that is native to captivate might be the way forward.

Do you see the issue every time you close captivate or is it only in some scenarios? Does it show any error messages? What captivate version are you using (64 bit or 32 bit)? Can you provide some more information or screenshots which can help us reproduce the issue.

I am having the same problem, but I think I might know what's causing it. I just updated my girlfriend's iPhone 4S (same phone as mine) to iOS 6 and was surprised to find that her app store is working just fine. When I opened hers, however, I did notice that the "Categories" and "Top 25" buttons are totally different; and those happen to be the two buttons that are not working for me. Mine shows the same that yours does, while hers has the "Genius" and "Charts" buttons in the place of the two that are not functioning for me. I believe these old buttons are no longer active and therefor are bombing out when attempting to access them.
Now I said I think I may understand the problem, but unfortunately I have no idea what the solution may be. Hopefully this tread doesn't fade away and our problem gets addressed.

My company's been a loyal Captivate user since the macromedia version 1, and we've never even called Adobe for support since the forum and other online resources are so good.

Just to let you know, the issue extends beyond AU. I have a good friend in England that has the same issue. I may be wrong, but I think it's got something to do with the fact that things are in other countries and different languages are used in many places. As a result, they have to localize into the other languages and an additional expense is involved with that and it drives up the cost of the software.
Unfortunately, you likely use English where you are and localization isn't really needed. So you are effectively subsidizing the cost for the other countries where English isn't the main language.
Just my .02 worth. But given today's economic conditions, I think I probably owe you $20 because of the devaluation!

Captivate 6/Android HTML5 - Sound not working

The default captivate output for HTML5 works with audio for iPad, but not for Google Nexus 7 with Android 4.1.
Using the Nexus 7, my slide audio will not play at first with the console error:
StAd1 /members/ERISK_content/ERISK_1_1_1/ar/StAd0.mp3 gotStuck @0
But, if I Pause the project for a while and then play it again, it works fine. The audio will not eventually load if I simply let it play - It needs to be paused before it loads. Does anyone know what is going on?

If this page shows your browser does not support the <audio> tag, Audio() object, or MP3 then you are currently sunk and this issue is NOT Adobe or Captivate's fault.
HTML5 is quite frankly a nightmare to support at the moment because everyone seems to somehow expect it to be as good or better than Flash SWF output, even though the browsers across this new landscape are a dogs breakfast of incompatibilities.
Bottom line: If you are planning to try and use HTML5 output from Captivate, TEST, TEST, TEST, TEST, in ALL browsers used by your target audience BEFORE you promise anybody anything.

My problem is similar. It began right after I allowed an Adobe update to run. (Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.45.2 is recorded in my Registry.) Now every single website I try to open triggers a window (see below) and repeats many times.
It makes no difference whether I "Allow" or not. I think it runs this window for every flash object on that website. It is occurring while I enter this post!
It makes using the Internet MOST challenging. Surely this is causing major problems for everyone.
I have IE8 on Windows Vista.

Why does Captivate 2 not think I have Flash installed? It will not start up even though I have the most recent version of Flash. It tries to redirect me to the download page every time.

The issue is actually due to the way all versions of Captivate prior to version 5 were coded. They were not able to understand the Flash Player numbering beyond a given version. Once that version of Flash Player is exceeded, they give the same error message as shown when your Flash Player version is too LOW.
When Captivate 4 had this issue Adobe provided a download patch to resolve. But you have absolutely NO chance now of getting a fix for something as old as Cp2.

Have had additional problems with continuose freezing up and locking up in many other native and non-native applications, freezing all the time. This reminds me of window based systems !

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Repair permissions and restart your computer. If this works, one of your peripherals is the culprit. Otherwise, you should post in the iPhoto forum area in case your issue is software related rather than the Macbook Pro.
