Why is duplicate cleaner for iphoto ignoring duplicates?

Why is this app not working? It worked at first.

Ignoring duplicates is better than corrupting the iPhoto library. There have been quite a few posts, were an iPhoto library was no longer working after cleaning out duplicates. The better strategy by far would be to avoid importing duplicates. At least, never try it on the only version of your iPhoto library.

    Old Toad,
Thanks for your response.  I was just about to try your suggestion when I opened Mail.  In my frustration, I emailed their support last night.  To my surprise, they offered a solution.  I just downloaded this "beta" version, and it worked.  I just removed several duplicates.  I have posted the resolution that worked for me below.  Again, thank you for your suggestion.

  • Used "Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto" now my video files in iPhoto have an error message "A necessary data reference could not be resolved."

As the title states, I used the app "Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto" to get rid of 6 GB of duplicate pictures.  However, now when I go to view a video in iPhoto, I get the error message "A necessary data reference could not be resolved."  I am able to view the video clips (with sound, etc.) in Finder.  However, I want to know if there is a way to restore them in iPhoto?????
    Thanks,
    Leslie
I see that the suggested solution is to restore from back-up... is there anyway to do that without bringing in ALL of the duplicate photos I just deleted?

Try going back to QuickTime 7.4, we've seen the same problem occur with the 7.5 update. How did you make the .mov file that plays all of the files? For us, the problem shows up with reference movies (such as that .mov) made on a Mac, but works fine if it is created on Windows.

  • How reliable is Systweak Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto?

How reliable is Systweak Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto?

Here're the cleaning apps I've tested on a limited basis:
These applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported the library.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates:  PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • Recommendation needed for duplicate clean-up and photostream settings

Good day. We have 2 iphones and macbook and an iMac. The iMac is our main photo repository.  However, it has become overpopulated with photos. In iPhoto, I have the automatic import selected, so I have all kinds of duplicate photos now.  I also imported all my wife's photos from her iPhone too.  Now I'm going through 1 by 1 to sort, move photos to events, remove duplicates, etc.
I think I'm good on the settings moving forward, but I'm looking for a way to efficiently review and remove photos.  Any recommendations on this?
The other question I have is once IOS photos are imported and tagged with 'photostream' on my iMac - I assume I must delete these to remove them permanently, ie - they are not part of my 1,000.  Once they are imported to the iMac from photostream - they are on there until I delete them correct?

You can use one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when one library has been imported into another with iPhoto 8 and earlier.

I also prefer iPLM as it is more than just a dup finder.  It's a the most versatile iPhoto utility available.

  • Is it possible for IPhoto to go through images and find duplicates which can then be safely deleted?  I have so many duplicates that it would take me weeks to physically go through them and delete individually.   I

Is it possible for IPhoto to seek out duplicate images and then delete them?

Try one of these:  iPhoto Library Manager, Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto,  Duplicate Annihilator  or iPhoto Applescript to Remove Duplicates.  The second and last are free. The first is, IMO, the better app and has many other features.

  • The best app for deleting duplicate photos in iPhoto 9

Hi, I have stumbled upon many duplicates /triplicate photos in my iphoto library. I was wondering what is the best app/program to use to eliminate the photos to free up space on my macbook.
I have seen a few posts suggesting apps but many had just as many cons for the pros....I have no problem paying for an app but do have a problem if I can not be reimbursed in the event the app doeesnt work.....
I do have all my pictures saved to the main "photos" section of the library as well as in seperate folders in "events"
To clarify, it is while looking at the main photo library is where im finding the duplicate and triplicate photos.
    Macbook pro
    OSX 10.7.5
    iPhoto 9  8.1.2
    Thanks in advance, Dawn

That sounds like an issue with iPhoto.  To make sure it's not the applicaiton create a new test library, import a number  photos and import half of them again.  Then try the iPhoto Dupoicate Cleaner again.
The only aspect of the app that I don't like is that it doesn't let you mark the files as duplicates instead of moving them to the Trash.  iPhoto LIbrary Manages has several options:
But Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto found all of my duplicates in my test library. Just be careful to not empty the iPhoto Trash bin until you've previewed the selection.
