Why is Elements 12 not recognising raw files from my Nikon d5300
What am I doing wrong, the main reason I bought Elements 12 was to regcognise eaw files from my Nikon d5300
Hi,
You shouldn't need to use the DNG converter unless you are using the MAC app version. The D5300 should be supported by Camera Raw 8.3 which should be compatible with Photoshop Elements 12.
In the editor go to Help -> About Plug-in -> Camera Raw to see which version you have loaded. The latest for Photoshop Elements 12 is 8.5. If you have an older one then go to the Help menu and select Updates.
If you are up to date, then you may have use old Nikon software to access the NEF files and that is known to corrupt them so that Photoshop Elements can't read them.

Elements 11 will not process RAW files from my Nikon D7100
Elements 11 will not process RAW files from my Nikon D7100. Ca anyone help?
My version of ELEMENTS 11 contained an out of date Applications Manager and would not look for updates. After I discovered this (involving much trawling on different websites) I downloaded an up to date version which found Camera Raw v7.4. Happily, this works. Version 8 is not yet available.
Anyway, thanks for your help. -

I cannot get Elements 12 to recognise and load NEF files from my Nikon D5300. I have downloaded and installed the latest DNG coverter software 8.7.1 but Elements still refuses to load any NEF files.

I just upgraded my Nikon D90 camera to a D610. I've been using Adobe Bridge to manage my photos made with the D90, and Camera Raw 6.3 to convert the raw files for use in Photoshop CS5. The new D610 writes different raw files, so I upgraded Camera Raw to the latest version (6.7.1) which is said to be compatable with the latest Nikon cameras.
The D90 files still convert fine with Camera Raw 6.7.1, but the raw files from the D610 cannot be read. Does anyone have any insight into why not?
Thanks,
JoelPThere will not be another update for Camera Raw 6.x which is the version that is compatible with Photoshop CS5. So you will not have a way to natively open your NEF files from the Nikon D610. But you can download the DNG converter (version 8.3 RC) from Adobe Labs and use it to create digital negative copies of your NEF files. And then you can use those with the Camera Raw that you already have. Other alternatives would be to upgrade to Photoshop CC, or Photoshop Elements 12, or add Lightroom to your workflow. If you choose Lightroom you would have to use the 5.3 release candidate at this point to have support for your camera. It will, of course, be supported in the final version of Lightroom 5.3 as well as all subsequent versions of Lightroom.

Elements 7 does not recognise RAW files from my new camera
Have recently bought a new camera (Canon EOS 60d), which is an import. Whilst I can process Jpegs in Elements the RAW files are not recognised. Help
PSE7 is three years old, and camera makers are constantly changing the formats of the RAW images they use. There's no way for PSE7 to open those new RAW files, beause the latest version of Adobe Camera RAW is incompatible.
You'll have to use the Adobe DNG converter to convert the RAW files and then open the DNG files in PSE:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5375
Or you can purchase PSE10.

Aperture 3 not recognising RAW files from EOS 300D
When I try to import RAW images from my EOS 300D, I get the message "unsupported image format".
I've checked, and Aperture should take RAW from the EOS300D.
Could this be firmware levels (I have 1.0.2) or something else?Found the solution, or maybe the "workround".
When I accessed the CF Card from the computer via a card reader, I was able to transfer the RAW images to the Aperture library using Finder and dragging the RAW images across.
The issue seems to be that I can't upload the RAW images via USB directly to the camera port, although the JPEGs are happy enough to be transferred that way. -
Why Won't my Raw files from my Nikon D5300 open in CS4?
I recently got a new Nikon D5300 and shot in raw for the first time today. When I tried to view the images with photoshop CS4, a pop up window appeared stating that photoshop does not recognize that type of file, and therefore cannot be opened. Is this a compatibility issue of photoshop vs. camera files or something else? As a portrait photographer I shoot in RAW 90% of the time so I'm very desperate to get this resolved.
Yes, it's the never-ending struggle of software keeping up with hardware (cameras) and the eternal compatibility issues between them. Forces users into a never ending upgrade cycle to keep up.
Camera manufacturers use proprietary Raw files which are specific to each and every camera they make. Every camera is different. So Adobe has to retrospectively add support to the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plugin for each Raw file format on a camera by camera basis after the camera has been released to market.
The D5300 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.3

ACR8.3 is compatible with CS6 and newer. It is not compatible with CS4 and never will be.

Can anyone answer the above question?
Thank you.Are you shooting RAW and using in-camera settings, like Active delighting in your Nikon? Then the RAW files will appear in Aperture very different from the JPEG previews that your camera is showing you, and also from the results in Nikon's own software.
Don't use in-camera setting, if you are shooting RAW, because Aperture will show you the naked RAW file, without any effects applied.
See Keith Barkley's user tip for a full explanation:
The Big Three: Setting your camera for the best Aperture RAW results
Just in case, that your images are not only overexposed but also desaturated , have a look at this thread:

NEF RAW files from my Nikon D5300 will not open in Photoshop CS3
Is there a plug-in or update I can download that will make it possible for my Photoshop CS3 to open NEF files in RAW.
I noticed a similar discussion a couple of years ago and I followed the advice and as far as I can tell I have the most up-to-date version of my software, and the Camera Raw plug-in is Version 4.6.0.30
I also have the same problem using CS5. Both versions say they cannot recognize the file type. Can I use a converter to make them a different kind of RAW file, but still a RAW format? I would prefer to simply be able to open them in Photoshop for editing.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
BarbI just checked the compatibility list again, and the D5300 requires Camera Raw 8.3 (Not 7.3) or Lightroom 5.3. You have Lightroom 5, but what exact version of Lightroom 5 do you have? It might require that you update your Camera Raw and your Lightroom in order to have support in both Photoshop and Lightroom.
You can check your version of Camera Raw by going to the help menu in Photoshop, then about plug-ins and then Camera Raw. The dialog that appears will indicate what version of Camera Raw you have installed. It should not be necessary for you to use the DNG converter unless you feel compelled to. -
Does Elements eleven open raw files form a nikon 200?
Can elements 11 open raw files from a nikon 200 ?
Yes pse 11 should open those files from the nikon D200.
Is the nikon D200 the camera in question?
Are you facing a problem when trying to open the D200 camera files in pse 11? -
I can't open my RAW files from my Nikon D7000 on Elements 7. The files from my old Nikon D70s open but not my D7000... Any Idea why?
Not sure what your version of PSE is but if it is PSE13 then you may need to update your product by going to
Help >> Updates
This ensures you get the latest updates to support all known cameras in the market.
Old products may not have the latest updates so you need to use DNG converter for which there is a wonderful video that is self explanatory:
Hope this helps. -
Why won't elements 12 download raw files from Nikon D810?
Why won't elements 12 download raw files from Nikon D810? I got a message saying that the camera model is not supported by installed version of camera raw. How do I fix it?

Photoshop Elements questions should be posted in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum. Somehow your thread got posted in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing).
You can re-post your thread in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum or wait for a moderator here to see your thread here and move it from here to there.
My opinion on this....from the Photoshop Elements perspective...
Nikon D810 is supported by Camera Raw 8.6 and higher (latest version of Camera Raw is 8.7)
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
At the same time, the Camera Raw version needs to be supported by the Photoshop Elements version.
Photoshop Elements 12 appears to support Camera Raw up to 8.5 which does not support the Nikon D810.
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Solution...
a. switch to Photoshop Elements 13 (comes with Camera Raw 8.6 and can be updated to 8.7).
b. use the DNG Converter in Photoshop Elements 12
