Why is eps file smaller than ai file?

Hi all.
Just a quick question: I'm using Illustrator CS4 on an iMac running SL.  I am working on a file with 19 artboards and so far I have been saving it as an ai file which turns out to be 247MBs.  I tried saving it just now as an eps and the file size has dropped to 180.6MBs.  Huh?  Isn't an eps supposed to be larger in size than an ai file?
Any suggestions?

Hi.
Thanks again.
Do you think there would be any problem if I continue saving as an eps, then when my project is ready to go to print save an ai version to create my pdf from?
B.
I think you should be doing the opposite:
Leave your working file as .ai native without the PDF option. Then, when sending a PROOF, do a "Save A Copy" and save that one as a PDF and choose "Smallest File Size" but change the color conversion to: No conversion. Make sure your file has "PROOF" in the name, so they know it's not the final PRINT file.
Talk to your printer to see if they would rather you flatten any transparencies in the .ai file before you save as an EPS. Or, if you can just give them the native .ai and let them take care of it.
REMEMBER to always check the document WARNINGS area when you go to save a file as an EPS to see if your file needs any flattening.

    Wild guess: you're using the the wrong export settings. You'll need to tell us more before we can help you - like the export settings you're usng, the size and format of the originals etc.

  • PDF files smaller than 8K will not open in IE 6.0

    Hi,
    I am using Adobe reader 8.1.3 and IE 6.0.0.
    I have an unusual situation where only pdf files LARGER than 8k will open in the browser. Anything small than 8k will not.
    This seems to be an issue with pdf files only as I am able to open other file types that are less than 8k with no problems.
    All of the files reside on a server and are accessible via a web page.
    If I login to the hosting server directly I am able to open them just fine regardless of the file size.
    I need this to work in IE as that is the only browser that is supported. DOD site.
    Any thoughts or suggestions as how to resolve the problem.
    Thanks.

  • How can I save an email as a download file rather than a file in my email

    I wish to save entire emails in a windows folder rather than in an email folder. I have tried hitting "save as" but although I get a message telling me the download is complete I cannot open the documents. Also, I am getting weird icons after I try to download thses emails on my desktop. I am not that familiar with Mozilla but was running IE for the longest time. Any help would be appreciated.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    '''File|Save As''' gives you several options. By default it will save as a .eml file, which will need an email client to view. You can usually save by drag-and-drop, but that creates an .eml file too.
    You can save as HTML by putting in an html file extension when doing File|Save As.
    This add-on:
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html
    gives you multiple options for saving one or more messages in various formats.

    OK…I purchased and downloaded Elements 9.0 for my MACs ( I have two in two different locations).  I installed on both and the brushes work as expected on one of them but not the other.  Guess that is why I asked about a reinstall….possibly something went wrong on this computer when installed.
    I am just trying to create an image for a background paper and have selected a brush.  I resize it with the bracket key (and have also tried resizing with the slider on the menu up top).  I hover the brush over the area I want to place it and then click.  The brush is smaller than the hover image every time.   Makes it hard to know where to lace my brush for proper placement.  As far as the percentage…..that actually is a guesstimate, but it isn't 50% smaller that's for sure.

  • Why we used tiff files rather than other files

    hi experts can u tell me for this

    Hi
    SAPscript technology is based on a mainframe product from the 1980s, while Smart Forms have only been around since (roughly) 2001. With that sort of time gap, there are bound to be significant differences between the two tools. Client dependence is a fundamental one. Although SAPscript has had some incremental improvements over time, its forms have always been -- under the hood -- relatively ...
    So Script is designed such that it accepts only .tiff fiels unlike smartforms
    So it is a must to use/convert the BMP fiels into .tiff fiels and to use in scripts
    To create a logo in SAP printouts just do the following
    1. Save a Logo using Imaging, Paint shop Pro or Corel Draw as Tiff file.
    2. Run  program RSTXLDMC and enter the following parameters
       Enter file name                     C:\COMPLOGO.TIF
       UOM                           CM
        Line width for text                132
        Text name                     ZHEX-MACRO-COMPLOGO
        Text ID                          ST
        Text language = E
        Number of Tiff gray levels (2,4,9) 2
    3.  Then Create a new window 'COMP' with attributes;
    Window COMP description Company Logo
    Left margin 7.00 CH window width 10.00 CH
    Upper margin LN window height 8.00 LN
    Finally in the text element, mention
            /: INCLUDE 'ZHEX-MACRO-COMPLOGO' OBJECT TEXT ID ST LANGUAGE 'E'.
    Please note that if object name is not indicated as 'ZHEX...’ the logo may not be printed!
    You will not be able to see the logo in a test print. The same will be printed in actual printout.

  • Will sync-ing iPad to new Macbook lose files other than music files?

    I bought my first Macbook (first Mac laptop, and first Mac in over a decade) a few months ago and have been a little reluctant to sync my iPad to it. Will I lose anything other than my iTunes files? e.g. Will my Pages files or iBooks or Kindle files disappear? What will happen to my apps? My hard drive crashed late last year and I have lost some things that I won't be getting back, so I just want to make sure that when I do sync I'm doing it with full knowledge of what's going to happen. (i.e. I can try emailing all of my Pages docs to myself first.)
    Thanks for any help you can give!

  • Confused... why are my exports smaller than my versions???

    I am having a heck of a time figuring this out. My file size (I've not done a thing to the photo since importing it) is 4.29MB. When I export the photo as a version it's 1.81MB. What's going on here?

    Ezra,
    I think you may need to step back and get some of the basics of Aperture.  I'd suggest starting with this part of the manual:
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=3%26sec tion=1%26tasks=true
    So with iPhoto I was able to export the exact same sized photo that was in iPhoto.
    iPhoto is different from Aperture in many ways.  iPhoto keeps your master, untouched (obviously at full size), and when it applies each adjustment, it derives another full-size photo which is also stored in the library.  Thus, in your iPhoto library, there are 2 full sized pictures.
    Aperture, however, keeps a version. The version is a recipe: applying certain instructions to the master to derive the image you want.  The versions are virtual.  Yes, there are thumbnails and potentially previews, but these are low-res cousins of your master, with adjustments applied.  No where in the Aperture library is there a full-sized photo corresponding to your version.  I.e., there is no analog to "exact same sized photo that was in iPhoto" when discussing Aperture.
    If you were to export my originals with the adjustments I've made, for the sake of back-up, what's the best way to go? TIFF?
    (Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, but I'm trying to address your questions, and they all lead back to the same place...)
    There is no such thing as "originals with the adjustments".  Those are versions.  For the sake of backup, I would use a vault.
    If you wish to torture yourself for a couple minutes, you can read about the very topic you asked about, posted two days ago: Shouldn't I regularly Export versions (thorough backup).
    In direct answer to your question, I have a few.  The first is: since Aperture keeps your masters (if you have chosen to import into the Aperture library) and the instructions to get to any version, backing up your Aperture library is the best way to ensure your versions remain intact.  To go along with that, is to back up your masters as you import them (You can review that in the Import dialog).  However, and I think this is what you were asking, if you want to "bake in" adjustments, I would use TIFF. That's just my opinion.  Should you choose the above torture, you will also find some other opinions.  Of course, if you choose to "bake in" the adjustments, you have degraded your photo.  Any further adjustments you do in the future will not produce as high-quality as if you had your master accompanied with the recipe (version).
    Hope this is at least a bit enlightening!

  • .rotation on Video() only works on videos smaller than 5mb. Bug, any workarounds?

    UPDATE: Found some reliable reproduction on my end.
    Shorter videos tend to rotate just fine, longer videos tend to not rotate but become parallelograms. All on one build. Is there perhaps some metadata tags I need to add to my videos?
    UPDATE: Found more reliable repro.
    .mp4 files smaller than 5mb have no problem rotating, .mp4 files over 5mb do not rotate, they only skew.
    Using standard netstream/netconnection/video setup for streaming video, any mp4 files over 5mb will not rotate when using video.rotation
    Videos larger than 5mb skew by the number of degrees you specify, but not rotate.
    Videos smaller than 5mb rotate by the number of degrees, and do not skew
    100% reproducable on my end: Win 7 x64, Flash Pro CS6 (12.0.2.529), testing on PC and several android devices of varying make/model.
    Questions:
    -Is this air for android specific?
    -Is there a workaround?
    -Does this happen on screen rotate too? (It happens when rotating the entire swf, when rotating the parent, and when rotating the parent's parent.)
    -Does this happen with older versions of Air for Android, and/or actionscript?
    OLD THREAD:
    This has been very problematic for me.
    When I try to use video.rotation = 90; in code, rather than rotating the video 90 degrees, it disappears. But this only happens sometimes when I publish. I can make zero changes, clear publish cache, and sometimes it is broken like this, sometimes it isn't and works perfectly fine. I can't figure out what is changing to make it compile differently. I've tried in all render modes (publishing to Android, so: Direct, CPU, GPU, Auto) with no changes in this specific behavior.
    I've tried putting the video inside of a movieclip, and rotating the movieclip only, and it still occurs.
    I've tried directly copy/pasting another successfully rotating item's code to video, same problem still occurs.
    I've tried re-ordering it, and putting rotation before and after x/y/w/h changes, removing x/y/w/h changes, same problem.
    Restarting my computer usually fixes the problem for 1-2 solid publishes before it starts happening again.
    The code is located towards the bottom of this post.
    I've tried changing the rotation to 45, and I figured out how the video disappears, but not why. video rotation goes from rotating the whole video, to only moving the right-most points, and creates a parallelogram.
    (Height and Width are pre-established variables, with values partaining to the overall container size, which is not always 768*432 ratio)
    video.x = Width;
    video.y=0;
    video.width = Height;
    video.height = video.width/768*432;
    video.rotation=90;
    Please tell me I am just missing something incredibly simple here, and that this is not a bug.

    i don't see a problem testing on flash pro cs6 win 7 pro 64bit using an flvplayback component and a 964 MB mp4.

  • Why is my "Combined PDF" file size smaller than the original files?

    Hello!
    I am trying to combine two individual PDF files into a single PDF. Each file is 32mb, however when I use acrobat to combine them, the newly created "combined" file is only 19mb. I believe I've taken the necessary steps to ensure no degradation is happening (i.e. selecting Large File Size in the options panel), but I am still puzzled as to how two files can be put together as one and be smaller than the two separate files with out any compression. What am I missing?
    Thanks in advance!

    When you combine a file it does a "Save As" operation.  This re-writes all of the PDF object in the single file and is supposed to clean up the file, whereas the single files may have had multiple saves which when you look at the internals of the PDF file simply add on to the end of the file.  In other words you get a more cleanly written and optimized file that is also saved for Fast Web View.

  • Why is "Duplicate" file smaller?

    When I "Duplicate" a Project file, why is the size nearly 20% smaller than the original (668 vs. 132 MB)? Does the "new" file contain the same information (i.e. is it an exact duplicate)?
    Also, what is the difference between "Duplicate" and "Make Alias" (which is MUCH smaller)?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    +Does the "new" file contain the same information (i.e. is it an exact duplicate)?+
    Under the "iMovie Projects" folder (in Movies), you can right-click the proj file and use the "Show Package Contents" option to see what comprises the project - thumbnails, proxies, exported movies, etc.
    Doing a straight comparison of the pkgs for the original and the duplicate versions will tell you exactly what's different. In my experience, the duplicate projects have contained the exact same info with the same pkg size.
    +Also, what is the difference between "Duplicate" and "Make Alias" (which is MUCH smaller)?+
    An alias is only a "reference" to the actual content... If the content gets changed, then the Alias refers to the changed content, as the original content isn't duplicated. ("Link" concept from BSD/Unix, that Mac OS is built on)
    Duplicating a project actually duplicates the content to a different folder, so there are 2 copies taking twice as much space.
