Why is everything on Apple TV 4:3 now?

I have absolutely no idea what happened, but everything has the sides missing now. I've updated the software, looked through all the "General" and "Audio Video" settings, and see nothing anywhere that can let me choose 16:9 or widescreen. Something happened over the course of software updates or something that just crops everything, even the menu screen, to 4:3. So incredibly frustrating! What to do?
My TV is not the culprit. It still broadcasts everything else not from Apple TV in 16:9. What do I do?

NEVER MIND. It was the TV. Kids.

  • Why are downloads on Apple TV so slow now?

I have never had slow downloads... and I like to think I know what I am doing since I have been using Apple TV since the old hard drive version. Recently I cant even watch a movie without extreme buffering and waiting for the movie to download.. it is crazy.. I have tried everything I know to try.. does anyone have the silver bullet? I am on a super fast Windows 8.1 PC with Cable at 20M..

I have changed settings on the apple tv to remove the option of icloud and tried exclisvely airplay from pc. I have tried conference room mode.. it only seems to happen with newly downloaded movies or rented movies- for example last night tried to watch superman- it buffered for 5 min to start the movie then after about 3min it stopped and had to buffer again- keep in mind I rented this move over a week ago so I was not trying to stream while it was downloading. Also just bought End of the World- I have not watched the  movie yet because of buffering. When I play an older movie in my collection there seems to be no issue.
I have reset the Apple TV, I have restarted the Apple TV, I have restarted the router, etc... all too no avail on the buffering issue/

  • Why did I buy Apple products?

I find myself asking why I purchased any Apple products after the first I got was junk.
It all began when I purchased an iPhone 3GS at the ATT store. The phone's vibration function quickly began to not work and often I missed out on messages. ATT was not able to replace the phone and Apple wanted a $600 deposit to replace the crap I was sold.
I drove 3 1/2 hours from Conway, Arkansas to Memphis to replace the phone and not pay $600. Unfortunately, while I was there I invested in an iHome iP90 which after two weeks is crap as well. iHome says it's Apple's problem because I bought it from them, Apple wants me to come back to Memphis, and all I want is a shipping label and a brand that I can be confident in the first time I purchase it.
I fear that I have opened myself for more trouble by purchasing an iPhone 3GS for my wife, but I am really trying to incorporate the Apple brand into my daily life. I understand that I have to overcome the burden of living in Arkansas, but I hope someone out there hears me and understands my money is just as hard-earned and green as anyone else.
Any tips on how to contact someone at Apple that might actually care and be able to help??

AT&T does not handle iPhone repairs or exchanges under Apple's warranty. In regards to an exchange under warranty, you can call AppleCare to handle everything over the phone, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby. AppleCare does not request a deposit. They request a credit card to have on file only in case you don't return the iPhone being exchanged under warranty within the allotted period of time - within 10 days I believe after receiving the replacement. The credit card is not charged unless you don't return the iPhone being exchanged.
iHome is not an Apple product. iHome is responsible for exchanging their product under their warranty for the product. It is up to iHome to provide you a shipping label for an exchange under their warranty regardless where you purchased their product. If iHome doesn't do this and they force customers to return to the retail store where their product was purchased for an exchange under warranty (which I find hard to believe), your gripe there is with iHome, not with Apple. Apple has no control over iHome's requirements for an exchange under iHome's warranty.
It is unfortunate, but electronic devices can fail, which is why a warranty is included with most electronic devices. To have a zero failure rate with such devices such as what NASA requires, electronic devices would be much more expensive - not affordable.

  • When I select a netflix movie on my iPad and push it to my apple TV, why doesn't the Apple TV take over the streaming, so that I can then use my iPad for other things?

From what I can tell, when I select the movie and hit the airplay button to move it to the apple TV, my iPad is still doing all the work of streaming the movie.  Why can't the apple TV take over the heavy work at this point?  I'd like to be able to use my iPad as more of a remote with an awesome interface for the apple TV.  The netflix app on iPad is great, and the easiest way to browse movies, and pushing them to the apple TV is fantastic, but once the movie starts, I want to use my iPad for other things!!!  Can this be put on the "to do" list for devs?

Have you tried the Remote app on iPhone/iPad to control AppleTV, do searches etc?  Should be easier than the remote alone and this does not involve Airplay.
Please note, only users read/comment here  - your idea is quite sensible in my view (maybe have a 'Continue viewing on AppleTV' option or something.  I doubt this would be high on Apple's roadmap but send them feedback here:

Why is it that Apple have no interest in helping I have a iPhone 4S and since updating to ISO 7.0.4 I have no wifi at all told me it's a hardware issue and I will be charged for the repair as it's just over a yr old so I've got a 24 month contract so 12 months with a phone that is not working right I have read loads of other people that have the same problem so how can they put it down to the phone and when asked where to take it was told to google it not happy at all apple u need to sort it out never again am I buying anything for yourselfs again DISTGUSTED would be an understatement

No joy at all they just keep saying it's the phone but was fine before update and @metasolaray why should I pay for extra cover when the fault is not the phone but the update they have put out for everyone to install and I am far from being the only person as there is hundreds of people going through the same with this update and it's not been the first time they messed it up

Apple should take resonsibility for this, otherwise they will lose lots of loyal customers. I have moved away from the ipad due to expense and am now very tempted to do so away from the iphone. Selling a product that prompts an update that breaks the phone is not good.

Have had the same issues with iPhone 4S since the upgrade.  No wifi button, battery draining every 8 hours with no use, phone shutting on & off for no reason at all.  I gave in and tried the hair dryer method.  Turned the phone off and hel d the dryer over the camera lense area for one minute.  Turned the phone back on and to my shock, had wifi button back again.  That was 2 days ago.  Battery is lasting normal amount of time again and I can use wifi again!  Hopefully this will last.  I know it doesn't work for everyone but it doesn't hurt to try.  Much better than spending the $200 at the Apple store, which by the way, the genius said Apple is aware of the problems but there is nothing they can do.

Having the same issue: iOS 7.0.2 with no WiFi / poor Battery stamina and really slow software experience when opening several options at Settings icon.
Apple care agent contacted me and we try all alternatives to isolate and detect if this is regarding a hardware problem. Of course they told me it is. Too sad. My phone is in immaculate condition.
My mother has an Iphone, my father has an Iphone, my 2 sisters have Iphones, my brother, wife and daugther... we all have Iphones. Mine's the only one with this fault (my personal experience: fail prob is 12,5% -1 out of 8).
At this point, I'm evaluating to stop buying apple products for fear that in the future the same will happen with some "premium" product that ultimately they are not.
Too sad, sorry but this is too much.

I got my 4s in August 2012, as an upgrade on my Vodafone contract Following the installation of IOS 7 I also experienced greying out of wifi and bluetooth. I tried various options suggested on forums however none worked. I took my phone to Vodafone who told me it was a problem they were aware of but couldn't do anything about as Apple had to deal with it. I took it to my nearest Apple store (60 miles round trip!) to be told it was not their responsibility, it was Vodafone's - something to do with consumer law! They also said I would have to pay £160 for a replacement phone as it couldn't be repaired. The 'Genius' was very cagey about it being a common problem by the way!! Back to Vodafone who said it was not their responsibility so back to Apple. This time I spoke with a Manager who told me in not so many words that it was an issue and agreed to halve the replacement cost of £160 to £80. By this time I just wanted it sorted to reluctantly paid £80 for a replacment phone. Seeing as this is CLEARLY a design fault, Apple should have replaced it free of charge. This experience just confirms what I am reading in lots of places about the Apple Company. I was going to buy an iPad but have decided not to now. I shall NOT be replacing the iphone when my contract is up. I too will be writing to BBC Watchdog.

You will probably be told that the solution is a replacement phone. Ask to speak to a Manager and insist on getting it at a lower price. I did this and got it at 50% of the usual repacement cost. Still not ideal but at least it saves you a bit of the money you shouldn't have to pay in the first place!

I depend alot on my Iphone and this Wifi greyed out issue is really getting to me!! This caused me to lose some business, but I'm sure I will make up for that in Andriod World. Switching back to andriod should have never switched to apple in the first place.

4s owner in the same boat as everyone else.
I setup a service call with apple on Monday this week and was told it's quite a common hardware failure. When I asked why I should be paying for a new phone I was advised to book an appointment in store. Well I've just returned from my appointment with a "genius" who told me that when the update is installing if any component is weak when installing it will be permanently disabled.  Was then told £150 for a new phone which I declined.
I've had  iPhones for 4 years now but due to this issue and apple washing their hands of any responsibility it will be my last.
Disappointed that a premium product has such poor backup from the manufacturer. If it was only my phone and not thousands of others I'd have probably paid for a new phone but I'll never give apple another penny again.

why is the new firefox constantly blinking on my screen? everything else is fine but firefox now blinks and is unusable in 4.0

Hi DGuerra, based on a past thread, the missing comments may be related to using avast! and its browser add-on(s).
Firefox is so easy to customize that it's not really surprising to find differences between two systems. These can relate to the menu choices (orange Firefox button or classic menu bar), toolbar layouts, and of course, add-ons.
If you have a preference for one setup versus another, hopefully these articles can equalize some of those layout issues:
    * [[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar]]
    * [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]]
You can compare extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
Perhaps you can get the two side-by-side to make it easier, or to extract a text list, you can use the troubleshooting information page. Either:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
The button in the upper left corner "Copy text to clipboard" will grab the configuration information from entire page.
