Why is exported file coming up read-only in Adobe Acrobat 9 pro?

Hi. Would appreciate  whatever help anyone can give me. I spent the last 2-3 weeks  working on a scientific poster for my brother, who is a doctor. I did  the work in Adobe.com and came to the realization I was not going to be  able to save it outside the program, since it is a trial.
However,  I chanced across the Export command and exported it into Adobe Acrobat 9  Pro. Only problem is it is now a read-only file. I can't manipulate the  text. The poster is going to be about 3' X 3' and right now it has been  formatted for 8 1/2" X 11" pages. I think the Fed Ex folks are going to  need some editing power.
So,  does anyone know if I can change this document to be edited? Or if it can be edited? Tried  saving to a thumb drive, but that didn't work either.
(Please  help me! This Adobe site is so complicated it is driving me mad!)
Thanks!
Beth

Aihe: Re: Miksi viety tiedosto tulossa vain luku-Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?
Hei Beth,

  • Confirmation That I Understand What I Can and Cannot Do With Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI

I am new to working with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and Adobe Reader XI.  Based on research I have done and questions answered in the Adobe Communities and Forum, I wanted to make sure I understand the limitations of these two products before I report back to my supervisor.  (We do not want to use XFA forms to obtain data in an xml file.)
    1.  Adobe Reader XI will allow a user to save a fillable PDF document to his/her local PC.  But it is only possible to save it as a PDF.
    2.  Adobe Reader XI will not allow a user to export the data in a fillable PDF into an xml file (unless you purchase the LiveCycle Reader Extensions license).
    3.  Adobe Reader XI will not allow a PDF file to be displayed in a .NET program unless the "Enable Protected Mode at startup" checkbox in Preferences/Security(Enhanced) has been unchecked.  (The previous version of Reader would allow this without disabling security.)
    4.  Adobe Acrobat Pro XI will allow a user to scan a form and create a fillable PDF.
    5.  Adobe Acrobat Pro XI will allow a user to save the fillable form as a PDF or XML.  However, it is the form that is being saved as an XML file.  Not the data.
    6.  Adobe Acrobat Pro XI will allow a user to export the data of a form into an xml file, an .fdf file, an .xfdf file, or a .txt file.
    7.  If a programmer writes a program in .NET to save the data of a PDF as an .xfdf file using IAC code, it will only work on a PC that has Adobe Acrobat (Standard or Pro).  If we need this executable to work on other PCs, we would need to purchase additional licenses of Adobe Acrobat - a license for every PC that needs to run the executable.
    8.  If a programmer writes  JavaScript code using trusted functions to get around security issues, that code will work on a PC that has Adobe Acrobat (Standard or Pro) but will not work on Adobe Reader XI.  Again, if we wanted our JavaScript to work, we would need to purchase Adobe Acrobat for every PC that would run the code.
Please let me know if I have understood all of this correctly.  Thank you.

Thank you for your comments to each of my statements, Irosenth.  That has been extremely helpful.
I probably needed more of an explanation on statement #3.  I wrote a .NET program that used this line:   "Process.Start("AcroRd32", FilePath)" and when I ran the executable on a desktop PC that only had Adobe Reader XI on it, Reader would not open unless we unchecked the "Enable Protected Mode at startup" box.  I researched this and found several references to this being a problem in Readers since Reader 9.  I just wanted to make sure this was correct.  One article indicated that we could change the security setting within the registry using code and then change it back.
Item #8 needed more information as well.  I had tried to use the "exportAsXFDF()" in a trusted function and it would never work in Reader.  It has an "F" in the availability column of the "Quick Bar" in the JavaScript API Reference which means it requires "forms rights".  I saw that; but it was not clear to me if that meant that a trusted function would work.  So, it looks like trusted functions will not get around security settings if forms rights are required.

  • Error converting files to PDF in Internet Explorer- Adobe Acrobat Pro 8

I've recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat Pro 8, from AAP 7. With AAP 7 I was able to open my windows based program, right click and convert the page to PDF. Since I've upgraded I am unable to do this anymore. When I right click and click to convert to PDF nothing happens. I've reinstalled the program, but still receiving the same error. Is there a way to fix this?

If you open the file, what do your right click on? If you are talking about right-clicking the file icon in Explorer, that is not opening the file but using the functionality of Windows. Apparently the file associations did not get installed correctly or the print function does not work. You need to go back to step one and determine the functional aspects that fail. So, can you open the file in the application, select the print menu, and print successfully to the Adobe PDF printer? This is a key step that needs to work.

  • Attempt to Access Invalid Address - Adobe Acrobat Reader XI or Adobe Acrobat Pro XI

    My spec's:
    - OS: Win 7 Ultimate SP 1 64 bit
    - currently have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro v 9.0.0 (works fine) - (AA9P)
    - Profile I am installing is an Administrator account
    - All A/V is turned off to include MS Security Essentials real time protection
    - MS EMET is turned off
I have tried upgrading to Adobe Acrobat Reader XI (AARXI) or the trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro XI (AAPXI), and keep getting the same debug message "attempt to Acess Invalid Address"
I have UNINSTALLED AA9P, and THEN rebooted. I then tried to install AAPXI = same debug message. No errors were present during the installation and I also verified the MD5 checksum on the download, so that I getting a complete install package
I then UNINSTALLED AAP XI, then rebooted.
I INSTALLED AAPRXI, and received no errors during installation. Again, all installs are ocurring under a ADMINISTRATOR account with all security software disabled. Tried opening AAPRXI and get the same debug message.
My OS has every available patch installed for both Microsoft and Third Party.
Any suggestions on how to correct this installation?

Still no solution to this problem. I went ahead and purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro XI thinking I could always get refunded but maybe it was the trial version?
I have since taken a number of steps to verify my computer was clean before I installed AAPXI
-- remotely ran sweeps across my computer using Retina and Tenable Nessus = clean and all available/critical patches installed
    -- running Win7 Ultimate SP1
-- running latest versions of all third party software (Java, Flash, etc.)
-- Ran Sysinternal procmon to see if what was going on (will upload to adobe...tons of "NAME NOT FOUND")
---- in procmon, I filtered out most of the noise...just need an assist from Adobe Tech
-- I used the tool above that Claudio Gonazlez identified and removed everything, even my entire Adobe CS4 installation =(
    -- Rebooted
-- Double checked that all security software is disabled
** installed AAPXI with NO installation errors
-- tried opening AAPXI but get the same error " C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe    Attempt to access invalid address"
Any help from the community or Adobe? Been trying off an on for two weeks to fix this. Thanks

  • Why can't I input text (from MS Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro PDFs, etc.) into/onto a certain page?

I have been having great difficulty inserting or inputting any sort of text or other information onto page 2 of an InDesign document.  (So far, I have 13 pages on seven spreads, and the other pages have been fine.)  Further information:  Page 1 is one type of master ("A-Master" applied), while page 2 (and all pages following) are a different master ("A-Document Master" applied)....  I used a second master for pages 2 and onward, as I wanted to import preferences from another document, to establish a relative degree of uniformity.  I am a relatively new user of CS5.5, but haven't had any major problems thus far with everything else.  My guess is that the text frames for page 2 are somehow embedded above the actual page, and this is affecting import abilities.  However, I can't figure out how to change this.  Any ideas?

Jongware:  That seemed to work.  There was an extremely small thread I couldn't see before--perhaps simply because I didn't magnify things--that I didn't catch.  (This was left over from the original master creation process, when I imported things from another InD document.)  I took care of the problem.  Thanks to you and everyone for your kind advice and assistance!  Best wishes, JS

  • PDF files opens in Adobe Reader  9 but not Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

After one of my users digitally signs a PDF file, and saves it, he cannot open it again.
He gets either a reference memory error or a Font Capture error.
I can open the same PDF file with Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.
If  I take the same file to a system with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 - same error on the same file.
Happens to my administrator account as well.

So the option was already checked when opened the document. I went ahead and unchecked, closed, reopened just to test and it's still not displaying correctly.
In response to Bill@VT. The image is on top of a white background so I can't tell if there is space there or not, it's just all white.
She showed me another document that's doing something similar today. This time the pdf was done with a green background and now the background shows as white. It was created the same way with Indesign and it shows fine in Reader and the Windows preview pane just not Acrobat. I'm trying to get the user to find the installation media so I can remove and reinstall, but I'm not sure if she will be able to find it.

  • I purchased CS6 and had problems with the Adobe Acrobat Pro so i uninstalled and now need to reinstall but serial number wont work. How can i reinstall ONLY Adobe Acrobat Pro since its included in CS6?

I purchased Design Standard CS6 the entire package. I downloaded and installed but I was continually having problems with Adobe Acrobat Pro. I tried updating to the newest version but it only made the problems worse (acrobat was super slow and constantly not responding). So i decided to try to uninstall and then reinstall the program. Well I uninstalled, and then attempted to reinstall ONLY the adobe acrobat pro but it says my serial number (which is for design standard) will not work. Since Acrobat Pro is included in the suite, i thought this wouldnt be a problem. Is there anyway to get around this without uninstalling the entire design standard and reinstalling everything? I only need to reinstall acrobat pro.

You need to reinstall Acrobat the the Creative Suite, you cannot download it is a separate application and install it that way because it will be looking for a serial number relative to being a singly purchased application.

  • Could not save as - The file may be read-only or is already open in another application

Can anyone think of a reason why if I'm working locally on a CS3 Flash .fla on my C: drive that I would get the error:
Could not save as: C:\Users\John\Desktop\Project_File\ANNUAL REPORT RELEASE\01-19-11\report_stragegy.fla
The file may be read-only or is already open in another application. Save using a different name, or close the document and try again.
    I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
It happens sporadically. I haven't been able to find a reason why this error pops up when saving some of my .fla files!!
The files are not set to "read only" when I right click on them and choose 'Properties' in the Windows 7.
I found some somewhat similar situations with saving errors:
    http://board.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?t=796857
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2980090?tstart=0
    http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=153738
    Thanks

Sometimes I can save with a different file name. But sometimes I can't and start a new blank document and cut and paste from the one that won't save to the new untitled document.

  • Some Files Change to Read Only

    Hello,
I have Mini SL Server with 5 iMac clients. My problem is that some files
change to [Read Only]. This happens with Excel 2008. My current solution
is to save the file to any iMac Desktop and then move the file back to the
server. I cannot find why this is happening. I am using AFP and ACL to
    propagate permissions.
Thanx in advance for any help in this matter.
    Art.

Mine is doing the exact same thing!
    Server running 10.6
    3 clients running 10.4
    2 clients running 10.5
    1 client running 10.6
I have to periodically go in and reset all the permissions, and hit the "apply to all enclosed items" too.

  • Saving issues: "The file may be read-only" error message

I do a lot of scanning to pdf and will often have to add a newly scanned page to an existing archived pdf then resave it.
I have a very consistent workflow and use two screens. The folders that contain the archived files are always on my second screen while I work on the main screen.
After I have inserted the newly scanned page into the existing pdf very often I get an error message that the file cannot be saved:
The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder.
I am the only user, none of files are read-only, and I am certain that the file I am resaving is not selected (I can see that on my second screen).
Sometimes if I just click on the second screen to another folder it'll let me resave, but other times I have to close Windows Explorer completely.
I like to avoid renaming files: it's important to that the original filename be retained.
This seems to be happening a lot more with Acrobat X Pro than it did with version 9. This is highly annoying.
    Any known workarounds?
    dg

The folders that contain the archived files are always on my second screen
If in Windows (a Mac user would have to speak to this for that environment) -
If Windows Explorer is "focused" on the file (i.e., file selected) or has "focus" on the file(s) parent folder/directory you will get the alert dialog.
Close Windows Explorer or place its focus elsewere.
Also, if the preview feature is used for files within a folder (or for files in nested sub-folder) you'll experience similar "speed humps" in the work flow path.
Was not always this way but OS updates (XP, Vista, etc.) appear to have given us some nifty new options that, coincidentally, pose some gotchas.
    Be well...

  • Project files open in read-only mode

project files open in read-only mode in ms project 2013.But in the case of MS Project 2007 it opens in READ\WRITE mode .what should i do so that project will opens in READ\WRITE mode by default in MS Project 2013

In addition to John's excellent reply, I'd add that if you are talking about Project Server, this is by design that the projects in 2013 version open in read-only mode, in order to require an explicit operation to check-out the file. This prevents to have
many checked out files by mistake.
    See this
    article on my blog.

  • The file may be read only

Every so often (approximately every one in three times I try to save), I get the message 'The file may be read only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder'. If I carry on working and then try to save it a few changes later, it sometimes successfully saves the file. Often it takes several attempts, but eventually it does save it. This happens with all my Illustrator files, they aren't read only and another user doesn't have them open. I'm using a trial version of CS5 and Windows 7 on a personal PC (I still have CS4 installed too - I don't know if it's something to do with this). Anyone have any idea what could be causing it?

It may be that you were using a font temporarily that was located in a directory that was read only or an image that was placed in the fie or another type of art placed in the files that may have the permissions restricted by accident. It could be that the scratch disk contains some sort of file that you are using and it has a restriction on the permissions as well.
Check to see if there is permissions problem on any of your directories or folders.
There may also be the possibility if you are e-mailling samples of the file that it is in use or at least your system and ai thinks so.
But it mostly sounds to me like the scratch disk needs to have the permissions corrected and that after a few attempts you end up clearing the cache so it is no longer using the scratch and then you are able to save it. Now I am not an engineer but this makes sense to me.
But it may simply be a problem with the settings folder and yiu can try this as well.
    1. Quit Illustrator.
    2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings folder.
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

  • Cannot save the file may be read only

Does anyone know how to save a current PDF in Adobe Acrobat X pro if getting "the file may be read only, or another user may have it opened.  Please save document with a different name or in a different folder" windows 7.  The file has not been opened by anyone, and this happens when I amend the document and try and save again.  I have turned off "protected view" within the preferences.  Deselected the file in its folder, and turned off the preview pane in the explorer window.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get around this?  thank you.

Chances are it is a problem with the preview being turned on in Explorer. You might try closing Explorer, changing it to a different folder, or turning off the preview (the typical solution).
