Why is Find My Iphone so stupid?

Why is Find my Iphone so stupid that it makes it harder to restore my iphone4S after I forget the passcode???
I have to erase my iPhone and pretend it has been stolen just so I can reset my passcode and use it again!!
I know I was dumb to forget my passcode - but I was resetting it in a hurry after my little sister discovered it.
Surely Apple needs to fix Find my Iphone so that it doesn't stop users from accessing their phone without a passcode??

Hi you need to download An App called Keeper it remembers all passwords If you let someone else use you IPHONE ie kids turn Passcode off then back on when they have done Cheers Brian

Why does Find my iPhone lose the signal at times and show whre it was maybe an hour ago even though the iPhone is still on?

Without your  password it would provide no security and anyone could then hack into your phone if the found it or stole it.

    New feature in iOS 7:
Losing your iPhone feels lousy. Thankfully, Find My iPhone can help you get it back. But if it looks like that’s not going to happen, new security features in iOS 7 make it harder for anyone who’s not you to use or sell your device. Now turning off Find My iPhone or erasing your device requires your Apple ID and password. Find My iPhone can also continue to display a custom message, even after your device is erased. And your Apple ID and password are required before anyone can reactivate it. Which means your iPhone is still your iPhone. No matter where it is.5

  • Why would find my iPhone ring if I didn't initiate it?

I'm worried...why would my iPad ring with the find my iPad feature if I didn't initiate the find my iPhone feature?

I also had the same thing happened to my 4S, and my sister's 4.  It happened to the both of us within one week apart.  There are scattered posts about this bug on the internet.  It seems that its happening more to AT&T subscribers. It's definitely a bug!

  • HT5622 why does Find My iPhone via iCloud on my iMac use Google maps and not Apple maps?

when I use Find My iPhone through iCloud on my iMac, the app uses Google maps to display locations. Why? Shouldn't it use Apple maps?

    thanks
I used Apple maps on my iPhone, iPad and iMac and prefer it over Google maps except for street view (which albeit has an annoying, difficult to use interface). In El Salvador, Apple maps was certainly more accurate than Google maps. I like Apple maps turn-by-turn navigation via my Sonata's sound system, quite nice

  • Why did Find my Iphone has stop responding?

My Iphone 6, just purchased a week ago was lost or stolen a few days ago.  As soon as I was able to get to a computer to log onto the cloud to activate lock and set in lost mode, I received the error message:
Find my Iphone has stopped responding. An error has prevented this application from working properly
I continued to attempt the application which told me my device was offline and lost status is pending next connection to being online again.  Activation is locked and it still says I am signed in and running the device.   The screen had been password locked.  Soon after discovering it was gone, I changed my Apple password.  I have not cleaned the device yet because I'm afraid my photos may have not been backed up to the cloud and am hopeful it will turn up.
My question is about the error message:  why would this happen, and does this message make all other information I see on the cloud inaccurate?  (such as the device being offline, me still signed into it, etc).
Thanks in advance!  Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • Why does Find My iPhone keep logging me out?

This recently started happening whenever I launch the Find My iPhone app on my iPhone. I used to save the login info once and it would remember that but in the last couple of days it keeps asking me to login every time I use it for both username and password.

  • Why does find my iPhone send me an email saying I have logged into my account using my Apple ID?

Since the new iOS 8.0.1 update I found that when I log into find my iPhone i then get an email saying: Your Apple ID was used to sign into Find My iPhone. It then proceeds to tell me what device it was (my one at this time) and the date and time. I do not want this setting on. I have looked into it and can't find the option to switch it off. This gives a potential thief the notification that the device is being tracked which is certainly NOT a good idea. Please help!!!!

I have this same question.  Even if you are logging on to see where your child is, or to make sure he/she made it to school or is where they say they are it sends and email letting them know, pointless.  And as you pointed out if you lost your phone or if it was stolen then whomever has your phone has access to email and then knows you are tracking phone.  Please anyone, tell me how to remove this setting.

  • Why is Find My iPhone finding someone else's iPhone?

Hi all - I just purchased an iPhone 5s (my first iPhone!) and have been exploring my apps and trying to become familiar with the new device. I was looking on Find My iPhone and noticed another iPhone connected to my account at an address around 30 miles away. I don't know anyone who lives in this location and I am concerned that someone might have access to my Apple ID. Is this a valid assumption/does anyone know what could be happening?
I should mention that I had to return my original 5s to the Apple store last week and got it replaced with a new one due to some issues I was having. At that point I erased everything off the phone. I am wondering if maybe that phone is somehow still connected? I really have no idea.
I am considering going to the Apple store tomorrow to talk to someone, but I just wanted to check here first.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Sounds like it could be potentially a refurb...I dont think an Apple ID can be wiped from the device so this could be the case...
I would speak with Apple Support or someone in store to discuss your concern.
Also if in doubt change your password..

  • Why does find my iphone think i'm in a different country?

I have a mac, ipod and ipad all with the "find my iphone" app.  Whichever device I ask to find, it comes back with a pin-point location in Northern Italy.  Which is great, but I'm in the UK.
I'm at home, connected to be my home wifi, which is connected to BT Boradband.  If I check the location of the public IP address shown in my router, it correctly shows me in the UK.
    So what's going on?

Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Limit website access to location services: Prompt for each website...
If you've already chosen one of those settings, you may in a location for which the master location database is inaccurate.

  • Why does find my iphone keep showing inaccurate locations

when trying to locate my iphone 3g from my computer windows 7 it keeps giving me the incorrect locations and it hits back often on the same location throughout the day. Often times when i press the refresh button it shows my phone to be in one place and then instantly moves it back to another place. Also on Google's Location History it  shows the exact points of location to be the same as Find my iphone locations. Is it a glich or is my iphone really going to these places?

    Hi lissadn,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article covers the factors involved in location accuracy and some suggestions for improving it:
    iOS 7: Understanding Location Services
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5594
    About location precision or accuracy
Depending on your device and available services, Location Services uses a combination of cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS to determine your location. If you're not within a clear line of sight to GPS satellites, your device can determine your location using crowd-sourced Wi-Fi5 and cell tower locations or iBeacons.
Apps that can show your location on the screen, including Maps, indicate your current (approximate) location using a blue marker. If your location can’t be determined precisely, a blue circle also appears around the marker. The size of the circle shows how precisely your location can be determined—the smaller the circle, the greater the precision.
Note: When Location Services is active, a purple or gray arrow icon appears in the status bar.
Maps, directions, and location-based apps depend on data services. These data services are subject to change and may not be available in all geographic areas, resulting in maps, directions, or location-based information that may be unavailable, inaccurate, or incomplete. Compare the information provided on the device to your surroundings and defer to posted signs to resolve any discrepancies.
    Improving GPS accuracy2,4
GPS accuracy varies depending on the number of visible GPS satellites. Locating all visible satellites can take several minutes, with accuracy gradually increasing over time. Use these tips to improve GPS accuracy:
Ensure the date, time, and time zone are correctly set on the device in Settings > General > Date & Time. If possible, use Set Automatically.
Important: Incorrect settings on your computer can sync to your device. Verify the date, time, and time zone on any computer that syncs with your device.
    Restart your device.
Verify that you have a cellular or Wi-Fi network connection. This allows the Assisted GPS (A-GPS) on the device to locate visible GPS satellites faster, in addition to providing initial location information using the Wi-Fi or cellular networks.
Note: Microcells (sometimes called Femtocells) aren't supported with Location Services.
Maintain a clear view of the horizon in several directions. Keep in mind that walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstructions can block line of sight to GPS satellites. When this occurs, your device will automatically use Wi-Fi or cellular networks to determine your position until the GPS satellites are visible again.
Crowd-sourced Wi-Fi and cellular Location Services
If Location Services is on, your device will periodically send the geo-tagged locations of nearby Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers in an anonymous and encrypted form to Apple to augment Apple's crowd-sourced database of Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower locations. In addition, if you're traveling (for example, in a car) and Location Services is on, a GPS-enabled iOS device will also periodically send GPS locations and travel speed information in an anonymous and encrypted form to Apple to be used for building up Apple's crowd-sourced road traffic database. The crowd-sourced location data gathered by Apple doesn't personally identify you.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • Why does find my iphone show my computer 2 blocks away

So Find My iPhone shows my iphone very close to where it really is, but at the same time it shows my computer 2 blocks away? Is it showing me the internet providers site/tower?

Your computer doesn't have GPS, so it's location is based on the known location of nearby WiFi networks and therefore will not be anywhere near as accurate as the iPhone location.

  • Why is "find my iphone" not working?

My kids tend to misplace my ipad all the time; this morning being one of those.  The "find my ipad" app kept saying it was offline.  I have located it now but it still says it is offline.  Icloud is in the ON position and it is connected to WiFi.  What else do I need to turn on or do to make this app work?
