Why is Firefox 10.0.2 using Quicktime instead of AlternaTIFF plug-in?
I have both Quicktime and AlternaTIFF installed. When I go to view a TIFF (e.g., USPTO), attempts to use Quicktime instead of AlternaTIFF. In Firefox's options, both TIF entries, image/tiff and image/x-tiff, specify AlternaTIFF.
You can try to remove (delete) that interfering QT plugin if you do not need any of the other MIME type supported by npqtplugin7.dll<br />
QT can be very persistent with wanting to handle media files.

Why does Firefox select the last used printer instead of the system default printer on startup?
In the course of using Firefox I selected my color printer to print in color then closed Firefox. When I reopened Firefox later on and sent something to the printer I had assumed it picked up the system default printer, a monochrome laserjet. It picked up the color printer instead. When I restart my other apps they automatically pick up the default printer. Why not Firefox?
Some web pages will pop up the print dialog automatically. In particular, pages that websites have specially formatted for printing may do this.
Are you restoring tabs that you previously opened, or starting up with your home page(s)? I suspect that one of them is generating the dialog. You could check by going to each one and reloading the page to see whether it is from that page. -
Why does firefox crash everytime I use it
Every time I use firefox regardless of what site Im on, it crashes every single time, I do not understand why. I have automatic updates on my computer that update once a week. I had no problems what so ever until Tuesday July 11th, after my computer updated, now I cannot use firefox for any thing. Can you please help, this is very aggravating?

Someone has already mentioned Norton in this thread. Please note there is a known issue with some Norton software sometimes implicated in Firefox 24 crashes. Norton themselves are asking for more information.

Why is Firefox 17.0 now using SmearType, and how do I turn it off?
I updated to 17.0 today, and suddenly ClearType (what a joke!) is forced on, and I see no way to get rid of it. Seriously, ClearType is ugly and it makes it much harder to read webpages. This is the entire reason I refuse to install IE 9.0. Help?

ClearType was off in 16.0 and earlier. If it can't be turned I will have to revert.We have a patch in the works. It seems to be an azure issue. setting gfx.content.azure.enabled = False seems to work in the meantime. We aren't sure if the patch will be part of a chemspill or wait until 18. Why is Firefox spell checker correcting in Spanish instead of English?
Firefox is correcting in Spanish though current browser and Op system is set to English. Tried installing English as an Add-in dictionary and it gives me a message "can't install update in this version of Firefox 3.6.3". This was a recent download of firefox.

== I installed firefox in new system with Win 7, April 2010You certainly seem to have both dictionaries (en-GB, british-english, and es-es, spanish) installed correctly, no problem there.
You didn't mention which version of Firefox that you installed basically, the english or the spanish version, but I'll assume english here - it may not even matter, as long as both dictionaries are installed correctly, they should be usable.
When you enter text in a text area, you should be able to right-click in the area and from the context menu have a point "Language >" under which you can select which dictionary to use on the page.
To make it even more practical and user-friendly to yourself, I can strongly recommend a Firefox Add-on that I use myself for controlling dictionary selection; the Dictionary Switcher addon. Firefox is closing on its own or crashing for no reason. I've put in at least 4 crash reports a day. I'm also getting plug-in crashes and have sent those reports in. Also, I'm getting lots of unresponsive script warning messages. At first I thought it was Facebook but it is now doing it on GMail so is it Firefox?
I am not sure I did this right. This is what I did: right-mouse clicked on the desktop, whent to properties, went to display properties, went to settings, clicked on advanced tab, and then clicked on troubleshooting tab. There I drug the hardware acceleration slider to the left to disable it, clicked ok twice as directed, restarted the computer and then I couldn't get firefox to open at all, but I went to internet explorer and got on you tube and tried to watch a video, but it crashed again.
So I don't think that worked. I couldn't figure out how to disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin, but did it on the desktop instead. Are there different steps I need to take to accomplish this?

I use to be able to open my messages immediately, but now every message I try to open I receive the following message on my screen.
"TRUNCATED" This message exceeded the maximessage size..."
I'm not aware that I've altered any settings, but clearly something is not right. Please can you assist in correcting this (frustrating) fault?
waggsTruncated Message: " This message exceeded the maximum message size in Account Settings, so we have only downloaded the first few lines from the mail server." I have not had trouble receiving large emails. Two days ago, a message with large pictures came in, I clicked on download and eventually the message came though. I tried setting the disk space in Account Settings to 1001 to avoid truncated messages. That didn't help. Today on the same screen, I unchecked "To save disk space, do not download:" The message came after clicking download the rest of the message. Is there a way to avoid truncated messages? The solution to use REGEDIT in the question linked below almost fixed my trouble with PDF files on over 30 computers, with several users on each computer:

But I needed to fix it for ALL users on a computer, without logging onto each account, on each computer. My fix was to logon as administrator and change the following system-global key instead:

Changed the data from FirefoxHtm to AcroExch.Document.11

The problem started when I ran a downloaded file to install the new version of Firefox on the computers.
Why would Firefox require me to use REGEDIT in this manner to fix the problem?This only happens when you set Firefox as the default browser and Firefox thinks that there is currently no application the handles PDF files.

When I shut down Firefox, it tries to start Either Adobe Reader, Quicktime, or both. It has done this ever since the first time I installed an used version 4. The applications do not actually launch, as in a window opening, but they are then present as a process in the system, and I have to close them from the Task Manager. It usually launches just one, but, if it's trying to launch one, and I use Task Manager to close it, it then launches the other. If I hurry and stop that one, Firefox reports that it messed up, and wants me to keep using the Internet for its own purposes that have nothing to do with what I was using the Internet for. This never happened under previous versions of Firefox. Do I need to revert to a previous version? I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security, and it shows I have no malware or the like on my computer, which could cause this. So, why is Firefox trying to do things I did not ask it to, and then expecting me to let it phone home to tell about it when I stop it. By the way, out of good practice, I often close down my Internet connection before closing Firefox, (in case I do get something like a Key Logger loaded, to prevent it from sending its final report before the cache is cleared), but this also happens when I have not yet closed my Internet connection before closing Firefox, so I do not think that is the issue, nor should it be. Your question below about when it happens does not provide for the answer "Every time Firefox Closes", so I picked the closest such answer.
This can be caused by clearing the cookies via [[Clear Recent History]].<br />
* Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
You can try to exclude the cookies to test that.<br />
You can let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the cookies when you close Firefox then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and possibly for each cookie (?) and that can add extra time if there are a lot of cookies to remove and also can cause an unresponsive script error to appear. -
I keep getting "Unable to connect" for my firefox. It was working yesterday and I turned my computer off. I can get to the web using internet explorer 9. I don't know why my firefox is not working. Everything else is working.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Why is Windows 7 freezing when using Firefox?
-Has been happening for months now with many attempts to pinpoint cause. Have come to the conclusion that it is Firefox but don't understand why.
-When using Firefox, my entire PC, not just Firefox, will freeze. Sometimes it happens within the first 5min of using Firefox, other times it could happen an hour into a session. A hard restart is the only way to get back to my desktop as I have waited an hour before after a freeze and nothing happens. Mouse pointer won't move, nothing.
-Initially thought it was a hardware issue or an anti-virus issue.
-Reinstalled windows on three different hard drives that all pass the disk check. Still happens
-Installed windows 8 to see if that would fix the problem. Nope, does the same thing on Windows 8.
-Ran Memtest 86+ for 14 hours one night to see if it was my memory. Nope, zero memory errors found
-To be sure I even tried only using one stick of ram in my PC at a time to see if any of the sticks were bad. Nope, it froze with every stick
-Tried changing my anti-virus. It froze with every single one, AVG Free, Avast Free, Microsoft Security Essentials.
-I figured out that my PC only freezes when I am browsing the web in firefox. If I use chrome or Internet explorer, it doesn't happen. These total PC freezes only happen when I am using firefox.
-My only add on/plug in that I am using is Adblock plus besides the default ones that come with Firefox.
-My firefox is up to date, I have reset it and reinstalled it [while only adding Ad Block +] and this still does not fix the problem
-In the windows event log the only thing that happens every time my PC freezes is the Error "Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D", why this would only affect Firefox, I don't know.
-I would like to figure out the cause of this because I would really like to use Firefox again.Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

I am using Quicktime 7 Pro on a Max Mini to play my video on a gallery monitor. Under View, the Loop option is grayed. Why? I need to play the video in a continuous loop all day. Thank you.
Loop appears to be "broken" in QuickTime Player Pro and 10.7.4.
It's been fixed in 10.8 and also works in QuickTime 10, 10.1 and 10.2.
Use 10.1 on your machine if you need to loop your playback. -
