Why is Firefox 3.6.3 the most unstable browser available?

Firefox 3.6.3 freezes, hangs, crashes, won't terminate, won't delete the stupid parental file when it crashes, I have to use Task Manager to manually close FF before re-attempting. I had less problems with a dial-up connection at 28.8 baud than this! It's practically unusable, and it this continues, myself and perhaps hundreds of thousands of Mozilla enthusiasts will cease to be so, abandoning Mozilla's products. After all, the recent changes to Thunderbird are the worst changes EVER made, virtually wiping out entire e-mail accounts and all of the e-mails contained in them with the stupid IMAP problems and not clearing mail servers. Let me know when Mozilla is dead, it's heading there very quickly. Actually, don't bother, I probably won't care anymore by then.

I have firefox 3.6.10 and I dont intend to make any updates due to instability of navigation.
When I make a search using Google site about 40% of the pages make Firefox crash and overturn.
To minimize the crash I disable all plug-ins, but it not works always.
Currently I use Firefox only for a few known sites, like webmail and forum dicussion groups, mainly due to facility of iMacros automation.
For research I used only Google Chrome that never does crash.
I also replaced the abandoned Compooser by the free KompoZer (with the same user interface) to maintain and update my sites.
My condolences to the Mozilla family ...

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
See Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile<br />
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"<br />
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

• What's the most stable browser for flash?

I play flash games and run several accounts at a time. I use Chrome at the moment, but have issues with it crashing 2+ times per day. What's the most stable browser platform for flash at the moment?
I have the latest updates and upgrades & a 15" MBP that should have plenty of power.

Firefox or Safari, in my opinion. I prefer Firefox, use Safari occasionally, and just have never given Chrome a real chance. I don't like the 'built in' Flash and PDF technology in Chrome.
Give Firefox a try - lots of support for it.

• Why can't I upgrade to the most recent Firefox with a Mac 10.5.8

I'm trying to update Firefox 3.0.10. I have a Mac 10.5.8 with 512 MB of SDRam. When I try to upgrade to the most recent Firefox it tells me my computer isn't compatible, but also tells me that Osx 10.5 with 512 MB of ram should work. Any suggestions? Is there a previous Firefox update which could work, and how would I go about finding that previous update.
Thanks, sorry I'm not so good at this stuff.

• My Mac OS, 10.5.8, won't support the most recent Firefox and I need the most recent version it WILL support and how to get it, as it's not on this site.

I need a way to get a more recent but not current version of Firefox that my computer, a PowerPC processor Mac, will support. I am running OS X version 10.5.8. This processor/computer will not run Lion and the most recent version of Firefox will not run on it either.
On my second computer, same type, a newer version of Firefox crashes constantly while in Yahoo!

• Why does firefox 4 freeze on the 1st result page of google search engine

I updated to Firefox 4 yesterday and now every time I use the google search engine my screen freezes on the first results page and will not allow me to click on any of the links on it, saying that it is not responding before eventually the screen goes white.
I tried to find a solution on the Firefox Support page but the only solution relates to McAfee Site Advisor. As I do not have this installed and never have I was wondering if it would be possible for you to tell me how do I fix it?
Thank you.

Hi, i had the same problem, and I also use Bullguard, I contacted them, just received answer, (in about 20 min). It is incompatibility of FF4 and bullguard (they know about it, and fix will be released soon), and probably most of the other antiviruses, as I see this is very popular problem. The solution though is very simple : in firefox disable addon "Bullguard Safe Browsing". It works. Or alternatively open bullguard go : antivirus - settings - safe browsing (unchek that). For those not using bullguard i would recommend to check their addons in FF and if there is any from your antivirus try to disable it for now.

• Why only Firefox displays, on Youtube, the "An error ocurred, please try again later" message? How to solve this?

Hello, I am developer and always stayed videos from my sites and blogs, YouTube.
Now I'm having trouble "only" with Firefox, because only it is showing now famous message: "An error ocurred, please try again later".
Ie, the solution to host videos on YouTube to display on websites, no longer "Cross Browser".
How to solve this? This story clearing cache does not work, useless to sticking with this type of response.
Please help me. Thank you very much.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:<br>
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Thank you.

• Why does firefox 4 incorrectly validate the url input?

Why does Firefox 4, HTML5 validation for URL input elements require the http:// prefix?
Is there a way around it?

The arrow to open the tab history of the Back and Forward buttons has been removed in Firefox 4.
Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
* Right click on the Back or Forward button
* Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens
You can look at this extension:
* Backward Forward History Dropdown: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforedrop/

• Why is Firefox so slow following the last upgrade and doesn'y open some websites or display graphics in others?

Pre=update Firefox was a faster and more reliable browser than IE but since this recent upgrade there are pages I visit regularly that are not loading at all. To check if there is an issue with a site I switched to IE and the page loaded immediately. Many sites I try to access with the updated version will not display graphics and since these are often online stores it makes the christmas shopping impossible with Firefox. At the moment IE functions on all these sites, it may not be my preferred browser but at least it works!

Thanks to "itsme95" - I found the resolution to the problem was to completely uninstall Firefox, all add-ins and extensions, reboot and then re-install firefox from a download from the mozilla site. All the pages that would not load before now load quickly and correctly - so the issue was in the automated update. A lesson learned for me is to reject auto-updates and when ready download the files myself.

• Why is firefox slower than before the reset?

The past 8 weeks Firefox has been extremely slow. I've tried safe mode and all the other web suggestions and finally did the 'Reset'. Now Firefox is slower than it was before the reset. Google, Duck Duck Go and IE. I've also tried Safari, which I didn't like, but all of them were faster than Firefox. Can anybody help me? I'm not that computer savvy to do a clean install and don't the $$ to have it done. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you can do a clean install by following these instructions:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

The size of place.sqlite doesn't change if items are added or removed unless there is no empty space to add new items.<br />
The size of sessionstore.js should change, but you may not notice it if you only see a size in KB and not in bytes.
If places.sqlite is missing then Firefox will try to restore the bookmarks from a .JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

• Why does FireFox 4 (that's the Newest Version) keep crashing when i do a Google Search???

I downloaded FireFox 4 on Friday 25 March 2011. It would run ok with my saved Bookmarks and is faster BUT when i do a Google Search, Firefox 4 ALWAYS freezes/crashes. Windows Task Manager displays the message "Not Responding".
Today, I have re-installed FireFox 3.6.16 because of the Freeze/Crash problem that i'm encountering with FireFox 4.

Apparently I have found a workaround:
1) right click on Firefox.exe
2) compatibility tab..check-mark Run this program in compatibility.. and select windows 2000
3) apply
hopefully will work for other people. .......and hopefully it gets fixed

• Firefox memorizes tabs opened when I initiated a close group, exiting out of Firefox to avoid spam websites from downloading onto my computer; why is Firefox re-opening all the tabs I purposely closed down?

On the occasion I search Google.com for images/wallpapers etc while opening multiple tabs, keeping the original page. Seldom the website crashes, causing all my tabs to close, while Firefox restores the websites opened. When this happens, I do appreciate Firefox restoring my lost tabs. However, when I initiate closing the browser, I do NOT wish for Firefox to restore the closed browser. I purposely closed the browser, either the website freezes, or there's spam occurring on that website, or an attempt to download a virus through the 3rd party's website, therefore I choose to shut down the browser in order to start new. When unwanted events like this occurs, I do NOT want Firefox to remember my last browsing history and restore such tabs. It's rather a nuisance and unwanted on Firefox's part. I do not know how to resolve this matter since I'm only a beginner with setting up Privacy settings etc, so please enlighten me.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
Another possibility is to use:
* Firefox (Tools) > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.
