Why is Firefox 3.6.6 so slow?

== Issue
==
I have another kind of problem with Firefox
== Description
==
Firefox 3.6.6 is running REALLY slow.
Firefox just updated (automatically - I seemed to have no choice) to 3.6.6 on my Mac (OS 10.5.4) and is now running unbearably slow. Every website I try to load shows, at the bottom left "waiting for" (then website name) and loads very slowly, compared to Safari 3.1.2. I tried clearing the cache but that didn't help.
Even when on Firefox's own Mozilla support pages, it loads really slow.
What gives? Why did Firefox automatically update to something worse? Can I go backwards and reload the previous, faster version?

Well, this may not help anyone else, but I figured out my issue.
After reinstalling 3.6.4, it too was doing the same thing, using 25% CPU consistently, unable to move the window around, etc.
As bizarre as it sounds, this seems to have been an issue with having a tab open playing flash video during an update/install.
After 3.6.4 was doing it as well, I closed the justin.tv tab and restarted 3.6.4, opened justin.tv back up and it was fine using 2-4% CPU or so instead of 25%. Window can be moved around again too.
Downloaded the full 3.6.6 installer, closed the jtv tab, reinstalled 3.6.6, launched, and reopened a tab for jtv... fine still using 2-4% CPU tops.
Very bizarre. Nothing else changed during any of this other than whether I had JTV open and playing video during the update/install and subsequently if it would be loading as soon as it restarted after the update/install.
After the initial startup, I can close and reopen Firefox as much as I want with the JTV tab open and playing and it has no further issues.
Weird.

  • Why does Firefox 8.0 open so SLOW?

I just updated to Firefox 8.0. I had the same problem before updating from 7.0. It takes over 1 minute for firefox to open on my home computer which runs Windows 7. However, my office computer runs XP and opens Firefox 7.0 in less than 10 seconds. Home computer opened fast when firefox was first installed when purchased new 6 mo ago. Firefox was originally installed on both computer at approx. same time. Why does it open so SLOW? I've search several websites for solution, but most posts were several years old. I'm ready to go back to Internet Explorer. 60 seconds is a long time to hold your breathe.

    Hope this helps a bit

  • Why is Firefox 4.0.1 so slow?

Since updating to version 4.0.1 firefox is running even more slowly than the previous version. I changed from Internet Explorer to Firefox as I was told it was a faster program, but it is not.
    Why?

I switched to Firefox from IE several months ago and found it to work much better. Now that I've upgraded for FF 4, it is worse than the previous version. I am unable to play games as they run much too slow. I was going to go back to the older version, but have read that it won't be supported for too much longer. I've gone back to using IE and it is much better. Playing games is 5X faster. I'll keep using FF4 for some apps. until it gets better.

  • Why is Firefox 6.0.2 really slow compared to previous Firefox versions?

After updating to Firefox 6.0.2 , all web pages to every place I visit takes a long time to load. No matter what I try, this version is slow! I have restarted Firefox in safe mode. I have disabled all add-on's and extensions. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I have have been using Firefox since April 2010, and it had always been fast; until this junk version 6.0.2 came along.
Have you not read reviews online at cnet, or other web browser article sites? Many people are all having the same or really close to these particular issues.
Please get Firefox back to the speed it had, like those of the previous Firefox versions.

Did it work fast in 6.0.1? or 5.0? Are you really sure that the problems you're describing started in this particular version.
Could you go to mozilla.org and download 7.0 and see if that solves it for you again? It's a much faster version.

  • Why is Firefox 29.0.1 SO SLOW?

Since the recent update Firefox is running extremely slow. I've been using this software for years and experienced nothing like this prior to the update... Windows Vista 64 bit, plenty of RAM/processor/functioning graphics card etc etc. Whatever you guys did with this update, you broke Firefox. Just letting you know.

Add-ons are as they were before the update so, unless Mozilla is producing updates which don't operate with existing add-ons, there shouldn't be any difference between before and after should there?

  • Why is Firefox typing and cursor are slow upon a normal startup but everything works well when I restart in safe mode?

When I open FIrefox normally, the cursor movement is very jerky - seems to get stuck on every link. In addition typing in any box is delayed. When I restart with add-ons disabled and in safe mode, the cursor moves fine and typing is normal. I have disabled all my add-ons but that doesn't seem to help as each time I restart, the jerky cursor and delayed typing present again. What is wrong?

Thanks - that seems to have solved the problem

Some of your extensions might be the cause of the problem. Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode then going to Tools--Addons--Extensions to see if one of your extensions is causing a problem.

  • Why does firefox time out so often? slows down my working

Why does firefox time out so often. I can be in the middle of something and it just stops. did it as I am trying to write this note. very frustrating! It either times out or freezes. the former happens more often. I can be on the web or on yahoo mail.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 255 to a setting like 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • Why is firefox running so slow

why is firefox running so slowly?

Can be Add-ons. Start up Fx in Safe Mode to test by holding down the Option key. This will run without any Add-ons. If it's OK like that, disable them all and then add them back one at a time to see which one is responsible.

  • Why is Firefox so slow after the upgrade to OS X Lion? Safari opens pages immediately, like Firefox on Windows, but on Lion it can easily take up to 30 seconds.

Running OS X Lion 10.7.1 Mac mini early 2009, 4GB RAM. No other problems except both Firefox and Chrome are incredibly slow opening web pages when compared to the same two browsers in Windows or to Safari in OS X.
This happens whether other applications are running or not. Internet speed has not changed (tested 6 Mbps), not using proxies, etc. Yes, I did test after Quitting all other apps. It makes no difference.

I run very few or no extensions with the exception of Java and Flash. I never, '''NEVER''' use stupid toolbars. The problem with FireFox on OS X Lion seems to be related to the OS. The speed of my Internet connection never changed and it continues to be fast for all of my computers, both Mac and Windoze 7.
If you change your default DNS on the Mac to something like the IP address of the Google DNS servers, FireFox and Chrome will run at normal speeds. If anyone needs help with this, please post another message and I will post instructions.

  • Why is firefox for android so slow over ipv6?

firefox for anddroid is much slower than dolphin and chrome over ipv6.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
The Firefox cache temporarily stores images, scripts, and other parts of websites while you are browsing. <br>
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies, do the following:
#Tap the menu icon located at the top right corner. This is the icon with 3 bars. On older Android devices you'll have to press the hardware menu key and then tap More.
    #Tap '''Settings'''.
#After that, you will be taken to the settings screen. In the settings screen, look under the section '''''Privacy & Security''''' and select '''Clear private data'''.
#You will then be taken to a list of what can be cleared. Select the following 2 for deletion:
    #*Cookies & active logins
    #*Cache
#After those have been selected, tap the '''Clear data''' button to actually clear the cache and cookies.

  • How to make Firefox to never update that slow custom look since FF 29?

How to make Firefox to never update that slow custom look since FF 29? How to change windows installation and ubuntu installation so they never update after FF 28 witch was last normal speed normal browser?
Hello. I can easy remove on Windows FF 29 or FF 30 and its slower on fast computer. But its affected by millions of users. With FF 28 it was allways fast.
Why fast? I dont know but its SLOW Now any version after FF 28.
Since FF 29 FF loads and hangs very very slow each time loading, starting, or changing tabs. It is making problem for everyone and now everyone calls with help- "why computer is slow.. oh its FF? Chrome? Chrome was slow but now its not the slowest one?"
Very colorfull Example- one comp is 10" and its very very very very low specs. So it wont run at all.
Now on small comp we can try linux and FF BUT no matter what OS just couldnt get back with any plugins back normal speed. Since FF 29 its very very very slow and that needs to have a solution. Today came update and still unneded custom menu button and its slowness hasnt been removed (unnoticed) so it needs a fix so it works for people who are not just for browsing internet buying new computer and cant get any faster speed then Chrome since now theres no FF anymore.
SO- How to do that on Windows and Linux- installing FF 28 and making it never upgrade
OR even better- Making a package that already has this update disbled setting ON?
p.s. Should you first ask people how they like slow browsers before making fast one to a slow one?
p.p.s. i dont get how menu could be added by thouse who need it as an add-on ass allways and not presuring everyone who never touches any button.
p.p.p.s. your business was beeing neutral ngo making browser for people and not for making cloged systems so new computers could be sold by some company advice or infiltrated mole who will suggest such unneded feature as any other addons, but sticking it in for everyone.

    Hello,
You can download version 28 from here:
    https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/28.0/
Also, you'll have to disable auto updates to remain with version 28 by following the steps described in this support article:

  • Why is Firefox 10.x so S-L-O-W

Was having script errors using IE8. SmugMug recommended I try Firefox. The script errors have stopped, but is very slow to respond to clicks compared to IE8.
On a screen that has pick lists. In IE8 they open fully imediatley. But in Firefox the response is very slow and the pick lists open almost in a jerky fashion.
Also when starting Firefox for the first time I was offered and accepted the option to import IE's bookmarks and such. I let it run for 20 min. then a script error dialog box came up:
    Warning: Unresponsive script
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script:resource:///components/nsPlacesExpiration.js:632
I elected to Stop it. It importing continued until Firefox came up. But guess what; no IE Bookmarks were imported. I have a barebones, no addons Firefox running. And like I said, it is very, very slow.

This doesn't answer why Firefox is so s-l-o-w. Can you address this issue?
