Why is Firefox 5.0.1 on my mac with v10.7 not able to open an .m4v file that four other browsers can?
I have a file at url: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16813292/boating_projects/pilot_house/Tabernacle_Test.m4v that I can open with Safari, Google Chrome, Opera, and Camino but not with Firefox 5.0.1. Firefox gives me a dialog suggesting I need QuickTime for Leopard. I have the same results with any .m4v file on my hard drive or on the internet. I have a desktop mac running OSX v10.7
That file is send as <b>video/mp4</b> by the server.
Do you see that content type listed on the about:plugins page or in Firefox > Preferences > Applications?
You can open about: pages via the location bar like you open a website.

Why have I suddenly got a lock on the icon, and not able to open Firefox?
Logged on today and found a lock symbol on the Firefox icon. I cannot open the programme unless I do it out of the sandbox. Why is this? My system is Windows XP pro.
For some reason my Avast malware killer had put Firefox in its sandbox. Sorted. thanks for the help.

NoScript stops cookies, please disable this addon/extension as well as make sure that the language en-us is installed.
# 1) Open up the Firefox Preferences tab. You can do this by typing about:preferences in the URL bar.
# 2) Click "Content"
# 3) Next to "Languages", click "Choose"
# 4) Select "English/United States [en-us]", click "Add"
# 5) re-open "about:accounts"
# 6) Click "Get Started"
</blockquote>
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, I already did all of these things. As you can see from the below screenshot, the language is already set. Also, this screenshot was taken in Safe Mode, so NoScript is not enabled. About:accounts still says I need to enable cookies for some reason. So, this solution didn't work.... -
latest updates has done the same thing with all updates

'''When you click a link to download a file, the [https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Properly_Configuring_Server_MIME_Types#What_are_MIME_types.3F MIME type] determines what action Firefox will take.'''
Firefox doesn't go by the file extension like other browsers might. Wrong MIME type or a missing MIME type and Firefox will ask you what you want to do with the file. -
Why can't Safari connect to free wifi when other browsers can?
When trying to use free WIFI in hotels, the connection requires opening browser and then the hotel log in screen pops up for me to log in (room number or sometimes just to say "agree")
Safari does not work!
I set my network connection to Automatic
The WIFI address I want shows up so I can select and the button turns green,next to "Wifi" in Network Preference
But when I then launch Safari, nothing ... I cannot log into the hotel's network
Yet if i launch Chrome or FireFox, immediately the hotel's window pops up and then I am fully on the Internet (and can use Safari
I have no firewall or such , so why can't Safari do what other browsers can?equinez wrote:

you can learn a VERY valuable lesson from this question... NEVER publish your email address in public forums of any kind - FaceBook, Google+, chats, etc. - these places are low hanging fruit for nefarious characters - ÇÇÇ -
I am troubleshooting an issue occurring on a family member's pc. Immediately after changing their "search" settings from "Yahoo search" to "Google search", they found that Firefox was unable to load any webpages. After troubleshooting the problem, I found the "Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can" help page, and attempted each of the solutions listed. None of those solutions fixed the issue. Also, I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox; the issue persists. However, the 'new' version of Firefox remembered the tabs left open when the 'old' version was deleted, so some temporary files likely persisted.
Are there any other steps that can be taken, or is Firefox on this computer no longer an option?Start with this;
Type '''about:preferences#advanced'''<Enter> in the address bar.
Under '''Advanced,''' Select '''Network.'''
Look for '''Configure How Firefox Connects''' and press the '''Settings''' button.
Check the settings.
Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set
to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your
updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow
Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
* Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
* Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
'''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configure-firewalls-so-firefox-can-access-internet Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.]''' {web link}
If there is still a problem, go to that computer and do this;
Type '''about:support''' in the address bar and press '''Enter.'''
Under the main banner, press the button; '''Copy Text To Clipboard.'''.
Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page,
do a right click in the box and select '''Paste.'''
This will show us your system details.

I have used Firefox on my computer for several years. Today, after upgrading to the new version, I was not able to open Firefox. I have tried several times uninstalling and re-downloading Firefox. It still will not open! Is the new version not compatible with Windows Vista?
I hope that link points to mozilla.com or mozilla.org
You will have to close firefox.exe with the Windows Task Manager from the "Processes" tab of the WTM since you don't have a widow to close.
The best way to close Firefox is through File > Exit, for those who stuck with the "Firefox" button click on the Firefox button then Exit. It is not perfect but it is a lot better than just closing the window with the "X" in the upper right corner -
when trying to download firefox 3.6.18 which is compatabile with my school I get a 403 message at that states mozilla is forbidden on this server, how do i correct the problem
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
* Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies" -
I have m4v files that have subtitles and sound options they play fine on my computer in itunes and but when i watch them on my apple tv there is video but no sound ... why ? all my other videos are fine and they in mp4 format.
Mov is a container format, you'd need to look at the codec used by the movie file inside the container to know whether it will work with the Apple TV or not.

In the latest version of Firefox, I am not able to open a new tab neither by Ctrl+T nor from the File Tab nor by pressing the '+' sign next to the last tab. So the only solution is opening "New window" which is extremely messy. Kindly help me with this issue.
hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

My macbookpro is not opening pdf sites from safari or firefox, it goes to the address but just gives me a black screen. I can however open a pdf file that I have saved on my HD, it opens on preview. any thoughts? osx 10.6.8
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
why i'm not able to open pdf files? says i need adobe reader, but not sure where to get it.
