Why is firefox allowing blocked cookies

I added a bunch of adware cookies in firefox to be blocked; the very next time after running a scan, I find the same blocked cookies were allowed. Based on this, firefox is not blocking cookies from the blocked list. Why?

* Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and password exceptions.

• Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on?

Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on? First off they are not even pop ups....your crap blocks everything and don't save user names &/or passwords when you have it checked. Also in your tutorials about solving this issue says it has the word "OPTION" .......no, it never says option to allow you to bypass it and etc. Only thing is says is "ALLOW" . That would be nice , but the problem is it will not allow it from then on. It only allows it right then and then you have to refresh...after that to open again it blocks it again.....HOW STUPID?!!!!!
It always say that this is preventing this page from automatically redirecting to another page. THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO...GO TO ANOTHER PAGE........I DON'T NEED YOUr BROWSERS PERMISSION TO DO THAT. THAT IS WHAT A *%#$&*(&*%$$%% BROWSER IS FOR TO GO TO OTHER PAGES......THEY ARE NOT POP UPS!!!!!
YOU STUPID BROWSER ACTUALLY BLOCKS EVERYTHING AND THAT SUX!!!
HELP!!

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes"?
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you want to keep.
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Keep until: I close Firefox
You can choose to keep third-party cookies from visited sites if necessary.
Create a cookie 'allow' exception for cookies that you want to keep.
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions

Why does firefox keep blocking websites I have gone to in the past?

You need Flash Player or DivX Player. Both of these programs are used everywhere online; their size is small and will not harm your computer. You should download them from here:

• Help with allowing / blocking cookies

I use Logmein.com a lot to communicate with my office computer. I also have cookies set to ask me every time. Every time I want to log in to my office computer i receive a request to allow a cookie for the website which looks like this:
ihs-officepc-qhtpieiuip.app04-15.logmein.com
The problem is that every time the part of the url after ihs-officepc-............................................ is different. So I can not simply allow the site to set cookies, I have to answer the question every time.
Is there a way to set the domain to allow or to use wildcards to set up an allow situation that will recognize that I wish to allow cookies from this connection without having to answer the question every time?

You would have to set an allow exception for the top level domain (logmein.com) to make this work.
Note that you can get a lot of such request if you elect the 'ask me' setting to allow/block cookies.

• Why won't the "block cookies and other website data" setting work on Safari 7.0.2?

Why doesn't the "block cookies and other website data" setting on Safari 7.0.2 work?  Everytime I try this setting, I still get cookies and other data that needs to be deleted from my computer.

This has been the case for sometime.
There is no effective way to block these cookies.
Try this, may help.
Safari > Preferences > Security > Cookies and other website data:
Press "Remove All Other Website Data:'
Do this twice.
Select "Reset Safari" from Safari drop down menu.
Select only "Reset all website data".
Click "Reset".

• Why is FireFox allowing "Canvas Fingerprinting" to track me?

Since "Canvas Fingerprinting" seems to be the new way of tracking one. How does one TURN IT OFF!
A New Form of Online Tracking: Canvas Fingerprinting
http://yro.slashdot.org/story/14/07/22/0140256/a-new-form-of-online-tracking-canvas-fingerprinting
Posted by Unknown Lamer on Tuesday July 22, 2014 @08:06AM
from the subverting-features-for-evil-and-profit dept.
New submitter bnortman (922608) was the first to write in with word of "a new research paper discussing a new form of user fingerprinting and tracking for the web using the HTML 5 <canvas> ." globaljustin adds more from an article at Pro Publica: Canvas fingerprinting works by instructing the visitor's Web browser to draw a hidden image. Because each computer draws the image slightly differently, the images can be used to assign each user's device a number that uniquely identifies it. ... The researchers found canvas fingerprinting computer code ... on 5 percent of the top 100,000 websites. Most of the code was on websites that use the AddThis social media sharing tools. Other fingerprinters include the German digital marketer Ligatus and the Canadian dating site Plentyoffish. ... Rich Harris, chief executive of AddThis, said that the company began testing canvas fingerprinting earlier this year as a possible way to replace cookies ...

Based on the Pro Publica article, to date, this technology isn't especially accurate by itself. Nevertheless, maybe it could be combined with other information to uniquely identify your browser.
The JavaScript canvas feature is useful for animations and is now used by Google to draw spreadsheets. Disabling it -- if there were a convenient way to do that -- would need to allow for site-specific exceptions so you could use canvas where it's useful. I'm not aware of any specific feature or add-on for this.
Perhaps someone could create an add-on that would cause the canvas to have a certain degree of randomness, so that each time you visit a site it is just a bit different, and therefore the site doesn't know it's the same browser each time. Obviously you wouldn't want this to ruin the useful of canvas, so it would need to be subtle.
In the short run, have you considered using the NoScript extension? Most tracking that bothers people (tracking of your browsing across sites) is performed by scripts served from "third party" servers. If you keep scripts from those servers disabled to the greatest extent possible, then you can limit the ability of ad networks or others to follow you around.

• Ever since I downloaded the new version a few days ago I get full screen popup ads whenever I try to open a new site. It's INCREDIBLY annoying, and sometimes there is no icon to close them. WHY, why would Firefox allow this?

I don't HAVE any more details. Whenever I open a new site, I get (so far) one of two full screen advertisements. Most of the time there is the word "Skip" in the upper right hand corner, but on occasion that is not there, and there no way to get beyond the ad screen except to go into what they are trying to sell you. It is imposing and obnoxious to the nth. This has only happened since I downloaded the latest version (I think the BETA 4) 3 days ago. If this can not be resolved, I want to go back to the older version.
Thanks,
Kathryn

The Firefox pop-up blocker is usually very effective for blocking pop-ups generated by websites, but it sounds like you may have picked up some Malware that is generating those pop-ups from you own PC.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.) <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.

• Why is firefox continually blocking valid websites and redirecting?

Firefox frequently (and annoyingly) blocks trusted sites from loading, sites like Sprint.com, for example. I know of no instance where they have blocked a malicious site and I find this practice annoying. How may I stop this from occurring?

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
(Mac: Open the "Applications" folder)
Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't
know what they are.

• Why wont firefox allow me to forward my emails

I go to forward my emails to some of my friends and firefox 4 beta tells me it is not allowed might make a chain

If you had provided the exact message you are getting maybe we wouldn't have to guess about your problem and then get berated when we guess incorrectly. chain isn't a term that Firefox has ever used in a warning or alert message that I have ever seen, at least in English.
Did you enable the pref that says Warn me when websites try to re-direct or reload the page - in Tools > Options > Advanced - General -- Browsing ?

• Why will Firefox allow me to have multiple tabs available, but not allow me to switch between tabs, and can only look at a new tab by closing the previous one?

Whenever I open a new tab, it appears on the tab bar where it should, but if I click on it nothing happens, the tab won't open, and I can't switch between multiple tabs. The only way to get to a new tab is to close the one I am currently on, and even then it will only open the next tab in order of precedence, so I can not even choose which tab is the next to view. This problem is making it impossible to use firefox as a research tool which requires fast switching back and forth between multiple tabbed pages simultaneously.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

• Why wont Firefox allow me to click on the top most menu bars on websites? For instance that top-most blue menu bar on facebook.

The top-most menu/options bar on websites where you could do things like log out, view your own profile, or change settings is what I was referring to. I can't click on anything up there, but I can click on everything else on the site.

That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar or the Babylon extension that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links and buttons in that part of the screen not clickable.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• Why does Firefox not block all popups? Example Netflicks

I was on HGTV site and when I closed Firefox, on my desktop was a Netflicks ad.

• Why is Firefox is blocking safe web sites including mozilla?

I keep getting security warnings on several web sites, even mozilla, and I can't override it,and I can't get it to accept the security certificate. Both of my laptops are fine, it is only on my desktop PC.

hello craigbutcher, first please make sure that the date & time is set correctly on your system. if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a possible solution depends on different factors:
* what is the error code shown under technical details on the error page?
in case the error code equals sec_error_unknown_issuer, please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):
* which issuer information does the certificate contain?
thank you!
