Why is Firefox continuously defaulting to Yahoo 404 while I'm on a selected site and haven't directed any action?

Whenever I use Firefox and open a selected site (CNN, MSNBC, Sports Illustrated, etc), without any prompting on my part, Firefox defaults to the Yahoo 404 page. I go back to my desired page but an continuously redirected to the 404 page. I have cleared my cache, my history, and even reloaded Firefox (I'm using 6.01) but the results are the same.

  • Why does Firefox keep defaulting to Yahoo search instead of Google regardless of correcting the preference?

Not much more to say really, started a week ago so i changed my home page pref's etc and it just goes back to yahoo.
deleted firefox and reinstalled version 17 same problem?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Why does FireFox open as a very small box in the top l/h corner and i have to resize it every time this only occurs on the initial opening up of F/Fx after boot-up

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

  • Why doesn't my VGA adapter work to connect my iPad2 to my projector. I haven't had any problems in the past?

Why doesn't my VGA adapter work to connect my iPad2 to my projector. I haven't had any problems in the past?

    Hey MarieF-D,
Thanks for the question. The following article provides basic troubleshooting steps that may help to resolve your issue:
iOS: About Apple Digital AV Adapters
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4108
    Troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using the Apple Digital AV Adapter or VGA Adapter:
Disconnect and reconnect the adapter from the iOS device and display.
Connect directly to the TV, projector, or external display using a known-good VGA or HDMI cable.
Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters.
Note that accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signal to other video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) are not supported.
Ensure that you are using the latest version of iOS. Some Apple Digital AV Adapters require iOS 5.1 or later.
Note: When using an Apple Digital AV Adapter manufactured before early 2012 with iPad (3rd generation), you may see the "This accessory is not supported" alert. Dismissing the alert will allow you to use the adapter.
For optimal performance, you may need to adjust the video resolution or settings for your display. If your display offers an "auto detect" or "factory default" setting, you may be able to use these options to optimize video resolution and display.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Why does Firefox continue to crash?

Can someone please suggest why Firefox continues to crash when attempting to download a file. It happens every time, without fail.
    * I have deleted the downloads.sqlite file (more than once) to no effect.
    * I have disabled AVG firewall etc - to no effect.
    * Firefox originally crashed on the latest version, so I downgraded to v5.0.1 - to no effect. I have checked using AVG and an online virus/spyware checker and can find no infection.
    * I have submitted 17 crash reports since 29 September, but when I right click on any of them, and try to open in a new tab, I receive the following messge: “We couldn't find the OOID you're after. If you recently submitted this crash, it may still be in the queue.”
My OS is Vista Business 32 bit. Thank you for any help & advice.

  • Why does Firefox continue to state that the Java Deployment Toolkit is known to be vulnerable.

The original issue with Java has been fixed yet FF continues to state the same warning which must be confusing at least and a road block for others at worst?
    There's a thread
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636633
that 'discusses' this and the person Anthony Hughes, QA Mentor (:ashughes)
has said that the issue should be posted here (don't know why he wouldn't do that himself, seems very unhelpful as a 'Mentor').
So, I'm posting a question, which is really a request that the Devs remove this warning.
It has nothing to do with my OS and also doesn't need me to Allow you to install something to gather information, just install Java and check the Plugins...

Obviously the responder didn't check anything assuming that the responder had Java installed.
If Java was NOT installed on the responders system, then the responder didn't bother to check 'what you get' when running FF in Safe Mode....
When running FF in Safe Mode you get NOTHING in the menu bar and therefore you can't check Addons>Plugins to see if the warning exists.
If the responder had read the thread in Bugzilla@Mozilla the responder would have seen that the warning was added by the FF Support Team, not an Addon.
I suggest that someone read the other thread, possibly contact 'Hughes', install Java and actually look at the problem rather than providing useless answers to valid questions.
And the little checkbox indicating that I'm providing the requested information has been left as 'ticked' because the above response fits that criteria - Was this Useful? - No it wasn't.

  • Why is Firefox continually redirecting me away from the site I'm looking for?

When I go to a site, I get redirected to an advertising site. When I backspace twice I get returned to the Google search page and then I can go directly to the site I'm punching in. But why am I getting redirected all the time?

    Search redirect malware.

  • Why does Firefox have problems printing Yahoo finance portfolio pages?

Current versions (34.0) of Firefox on Windows and Mac both have printing problems when printing from the Yahoo Finance portfolio website. I don't have problems when printing from IE, Safari, or Opera. Firefox prints a header on page 1 then pages 2 and 3 on top of each other. It doesn't include every stock that I had in my portfolio either. The portfolio page has an interesting feature where it keeps the header of the page at the top and scrolls the rest of the page under it. This probably is what is messing up FF's printing but the other browser vendors don't have a problem. I'm working this problem for my father-in-law who's running Windows 7 while I'm on a Mac running Yosemite. I can duplicate the problem on Windows 7, XP, and OSX all running the latest version of FF. To test, I created a portfolio with a bunch of random stocks then tries printing. I got perfect output on every browser except FF.
Sorry, I'm not installing any other Firefox software. This problem is on the platforms I mentioned. I can submit a pdf of sample output, both good and bad, if you like.

More info. I have AdBlock running and thought that might have been the reason I could print from Safari but installing AdBlock on Firefox gave me the same results. Yahoo has a bunch of ads under the header and some use Flash. Having them there doesn't affect printing on other web browsers. I created a pdf file then opened it in a drawing problem and noticed a huge blank block in the middle of page one. This is what is pushing the stock data down to page 2. It shouldn't be there so FF is interpreting the ad area with the scrolling as a large block instead of ignoring it. I added three images. The first shows a correct page 1 (Safari), while the next two show how FF prints it.

  • Why is Firefox freezes when on yahoo websites, and blogs?

I have been having problems FF freezing and not working since I was updated from FF 3.6.3 this was the last version I had no problems.
I loose all functions when I'M visits stories within Yahoo

    Hi Fred-
I tried your suggestion, and both the sites I mention above loaded without issue. But I think hardware acceleration was already off:
When I went into the advanced preferences in safe mode, hardware acceleration was unchecked, which, according to the FF guidance I saw on safe mode, is the default in that mode. When I then relaunched FF in normal mode, acceleration was still unchecked. So unless starting in safe mode turned off the acceleration and that setting carried over to normal mode, I'm assuming it wasn't on in the first place.
Because the issue only occurs on a few sites, I'm assuming it is sloppy web design as opposed to a browser problem. I wonder if the issue could be related to the problem sites using Java or Flash, or some script that stymies Firefox, but I don't know how to check that.
The thing that bothers me is that the browser causes the whole system to hang while it struggles with loading the site. I'm no expert, but I don't think that should happen in a four-core, 2.8 GHz system with 6 GB of RAM.

  • Why is Firefox continuously "not responding"?

I've tried a few things, including uninstalling but to no avail.
It doesn't matter what the website is...I try to close or open pages and get "not reponding"

    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web link}
    While you are in safe mode;
Press the '''Alt''' or '''F10''' key to bring up the tool bar.
    Followed by;
    Windows; '''Tools > Options'''
    Linux; '''Edit > Preferences'''
    Mac; ''application name'' '''> Preferences'''
    Then '''Advanced > General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
    Then restart.

  • Why does firefox continue to run after closing it?

I close out of an internet site and then go to another link and I get the box that says "Firefox is still running," I wait and try again and it still tells me this.I try several times,I then reboot and start over. How do I stop this?

Probably a problematic extension can cause the problem, see : [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox-hangs#w_firefox-hangs-when-you-quit-it Firefox hangs when you quit it]
    thank you

  • Why is firefox continually blocking valid websites and redirecting?

Firefox frequently (and annoyingly) blocks trusted sites from loading, sites like Sprint.com, for example. I know of no instance where they have blocked a malicious site and I find this practice annoying. How may I stop this from occurring?

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.'''
    '''(Mac: Open the "Applications" folder)'''
Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't
    know what they are.

why is firefox just clocking, it just clocked earlier, so I tried uninstalling version 8, installing version 9, it still just clocks, and never opens the webpage no matter which website I try.

    Hi shararara,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are receiving an error that iTunes has stopped responding. I know you have already tried some treat troubleshooting, but in this situation I would suggest working through the steps suggested in the attached article.

  • Why does firefox change fonts when I am trying to download or get help, click and enter keys are disabled why?

I recently did a clean install of windows7 after returning from Europe and installed Mozilla firefox being fed up with microsoft and google .
Fire fox seemed to be working ok but 7 out of 10 downloads were failing, and it seemed that every ebsite entered in the address bar turned into a question.
There was no save shortcut, or paste buttons just a set of to me useless buttons first html, last html, then when I tried to contact help all of a sudden I got a "install fonts" notice and the enter key stopped working,
and any action key was also disabled without advising me.
It appears that either Mozilla or someone doesn't want me using firefox.
I also noticed that the clean disk and other utilities didn't work and that the temp and temp internet folders were empty when I tried to open them but they actually had some 25 megabytes in them when queried as administrator. I also noticed a quick flash reference to Jscript=void,
and my 32 bit computer suddenly started up as a 64 bit Turion.
scan and system clean said machine was clean.
    Whats going on here?
I am not on my machine, I can't contact you on it because the enter button has been disabled by font change.
Maybe this robot needs some help too!

Can you undo the system restore?
Note that using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.
*You may lose data in the Firefox profile folder like .js and .ini files pr profiles.ini can be affected.
*You may need to (re)install software that was affected.
In case you need to reinstall Firefox then you need to delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling to make sure that all files get replaced.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox shows an unknown certificate error while Chrome does not for same site

On a site at which Credit Card payment info is shown, Firefox is reporting a certificate error while Chrome does not. Prefer to use FF but need to know if warning is right or not. Have cleared the cache and still get the warning. This is new to FF as we've used it on this site for several years.

    HI khetheri,
In order to better test the certificate may we request the certificate without the private keys? I have some backup from the security team if this is possible.
There is a temporary work around as well but I don't recommend turning on all certificates to make sure it is not a compatibility error(ish)
It is possible to check if it is being detected as a bad certificate in Firefox itself to eliminate compatibility issues.
    # In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The about:config "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
    # Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''', to continue to the about:config page.
    # Search for '''browser.xul.error_pages.expert_bad_cert ''' and set it to true to try the certificate normally.
    Looking forward to your reply!
