Why is Firefox Developer more stable and faster than regular Firefox?

So, I've have some great experiences with regular Firefox. It works great, nice themes, good plugins, security etc., but there's one thing that bothers me of Firefox on EVERY computer on EVERY operating system. Whenever I install Firefox, it is already slow, it stutters sometimes and sometimes it freezes. And it's not only my problem, many of my friends and classmates are using Chrome at this moment, because they complain about speed of Firefox. Now, for me that's not problem, I'm not patient person, but surely it is browser that will protect my privacy as opposed to Chrome.
Recently, somewhere, I saw download link saying something like "Mozilla Developer, for people like you", or something alike, I installed it and man, that browser is like 10x faster than regular Firefox AND Chrome AND Safari, I mean, this speed is outrageous! It's great, no sarcasm!
I don't get it, why is regular Firefox so slow and Firefox Developer so frickin' fast? Why? Can you maybe base your next Firefox update to Firefox Developer?
Sincerely Mozilla Firefox Developer lover. *muah*

@Tyler Downer Oke, good to hear it's next release of Firefox. But my profile isn't full, I don't really log in, totally fresh install of Firefox are mostly really sluggish. Mozilla really outdid themselves in speed and stability!! Great! A++ Mozilla!

  • How can I make my CP modules more stable and reliable?

We've recently rolled out a major compliance training module to our whole company. It was quite a large project about 13mb when published, including audio. It was delivered via the latest version of Saba. Some users had no problems with it - it ran as it was designed to, but at least 150 users experienced quite major problems:
Slides would stick for no apparent reason forcing them to close and restart
    Submit buttons would behave erratically
    Everything ran very slowly
The simple answer would be to say yes it was too large to run in a stable predictable manner, but colleagues who put together a simple 10 question multi-choice quiz, with no graphics or audio have experienced similar issues.
The result was some very unfavorable feedback and we'll have to work hard to win back the trust of the people who were affected.
Chances are it's linked to our IT infrastructure, but I really don't know where to start with that. The LMS and content servers are based in the US and we're based in the UK. Has anyone had similar experiences - what did you do?
Most of the project was put together in Powerpoint 07 then converted into CP4, I'm now using CP5 and can see that there really is no need to use PowerPoint anymore, except for speed and familiarity. So is there any evidence/experience to suggest that converting .ppts is less stable, larger file size and worse practice than creating everything from scratch in CP5?
Where can I find best practices for increasing the odds of delivering stable learning experiences for my users?
Sorry lots of questions for one post - but I'm looking more for useful pointers than definitive answers!
    Thanks
    Sam

Everytime I've had issues like this it's been due to latency in the LMS handling the volume of requests from the course modules.  It's the luck of the draw when people have these issues because it just depends on how many things are competing for the LMS's attention at the time.
If you get an opportunity to log into the LMS server box and watch the Task Manager while the LMS is being hit you may see the CPU max out due to the load.  At this point some users will be experiencing what appears like sticking screens as Captivate waits to hear back from the LMS after it has sent through a pinged piece of information.  You can lessen the load on the LMS by setting your courses to only report scores and not scores + user interactions.  If Captivate is pinging the LMS after each and every slide, imagine how many hits that poor LMS is getting when you have lots of users.
On one project we also got some help from Andrew Chemey at Adobe to customise the JavaScript in our Captivate HTML SCORM templates so that the lesson only reported once to the server right at the end of the lesson, instead of after every quiz question, which is the normal behaviour.  We found this significantly reduced the load on the LMS and all but eliminated the latency.

  • Why does Acrobat Pro 9 have more bells and whistles than Acrobat Pro XI?

I have a Power Mac with Acrobat Pro 9 and it has more menus with more functions than the Acrobat Pro XI on my iMac.
I'm supposed to be migrating to the iMac and giving the Power Mac to some co-workers, but I need the functions in Acrobat 9 that I don't see in XI.
In 9 I have these menu items: File, Edit, View, Document, Comments, Forms, Tools, Advanced, Window and Help.
In XI I have: File, Edit, View, FusionPro, Window and Help.
    I know FusionPro is a 3rd party plug-in.
Do I have to do something to make them appear? Has Adobe taken them out? Did they move them?
    Primarily I'm interested in:
    Document > Crop Pages function
    Tools > Advanced Editing functions
    Advanced > Print Production functions
BTW, I don't know if this is an installation issue or not, but this seemed like the most likely forum.

In XI, all of the tools are in the RHP (right-hand panel) under tools/comments. Some tools require you to right click on the tools settings by the tools selector to allow other tools to be displayed. These tools are no longer given on the menu bar and has been the change in the Acrobat UI structure. A few tools are at times removed, but the ones you mentioned are still there.

  • Why is New to Java so much faster than Java Programming?

It feels like the New to Java server is at my neighbor's house, and Java Programming is on Neptune. What gives? It always takes like 10 seconds to load the Java Programming board.

I've noticed that, too. I've attributed it to message volume, since there are so many more messages under that category.
Maybe the database doesn't have an index, or perhaps they bring back LOTS of entries and cache them. Who knows?

  • Why does Acrobat allocate more width for spaces than for alphanumeric characters?

When I convert a text file to PDF using Acrobat X Pro, I select a fixed-width font.  However, it appears that Acrobat allocates a greater width for space characters in the text file, than it does for alphanumeric characters in the text file.  How do I instruct Acrobat to use exactly the same width for all the characters, both spaces and visible characters?
This question is actually a re-write of my previous post titled, ‘Bulk Convert Text to PDF with Acrobat’.  I know what the problem is now but do not how to fix it.
Here's a mock example of the content of a text file.  In the resulting PDF, the H no longer lies directly under the G.  I chose Courier New 8 pt for the font.
ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG
              H          H          H          H          H          H
Any suggestion will be appreciated.  Thank you.

If you are comfortable with the settings in the printing, then go back to the PDF Maker settings (create PDF preferences in WORD) and adjust the preferences for similar performance, at least in the job settings and such. The rest deals with how much you want the bookmarks and such.
I am assuming that those PDF Maker preferences set in WORD are retained when you run the conversion from Acrobat that I have the impression you are doing. Other than that, check the conversion settings in Acrobat itself. They are in the preferences. If you the printer preferences are used when converting from Text (you will have to try to see what happens), it would use the default preferences of the printer, not those set in the print menu of an application. The latter only last as long as that application is open and only for that application. For your need, you may need to change them in either the printer (Start>Printers.. in windows) or Distiller, or both. The printer overrides the Distiller settings usually (another setting on this).

  • Overall faster and more stable when starting fresh

I got tired of the slow and crashing issues after I upgraded to the new firmware and installed new apps. I decided to restore the phone to "factory" settings (1st gen iPhone). But this time, instead of restoring from a previous backup, I selected the first option, which is to setup a new one.
All the settings were reset, but I guess starting out with a new slate, everything feels much more stable and faster. Any comments on this?
I guess once in a while, it's a good idea to format your hard drive and install everything from scratch : )

    Hi Thewisestarfish,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the Mac is running slowly. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Why is Firefox such a horrible browser and how did it get popular?

'' locking this thread before it gets out of hand - This is a Firefox support form, not a forum for personal opinions about Firefox or Mozilla. If you want Firefox support please ask for it.''
I can't use Firefox, or "Crashfox", more than an hour without crashing. I have a new computer, have tried every fix known to man, so I don't need any "tips".
Due to my endless efforts to fix the many shortcomings of Firefox, I can say without a doubt that its Firefox. I have no clue how this browser gained any popularity or why anyone would continue to use it. I've lost more data than I can imagine because Crashfox just quits. It can't handle any type of load at all. 5 tabs open and its done. I can have 30 open in Chrome and it works like a champ.
I just switched to Chrome and it kicks Crashfox's ass all over the place. Faster, more stable, and just plain better. Hands down, no questions about it. Good luck catching up to Chrome Mozilla.
AND, IF YOU WANT TO BLAME THIS ON THE PLUGINS, THEN DISCONTINUE SUPPORTING THEM. IT STILL FALLS ON MOZILLA.
Why did I post this, because I feel after all of my inconvenience, i should be able to at least make one comment about Crashfox. This post will probably be removed because no one wants to face the fact that Crashfox is inferior. Very inferior.

    the truth stings.
the only way to provide support would be to rebuild Firefox.
Chrome spanks Firefox in all bench tests. I even used a FF install w/ no addons. No contest. Chrome hands down.
    Firefox is officially bloatware.

  • Why is Apple focusing on networking and connecting socially?

Seeing the newest OS come out this week made me very excited! I was hoping to upgrade today, but changed my mind on a few reasons...
It doesn't seem very different then Lion, so is it really worth the $20.00? All they've really added, on the surface of the OS, is more iOS features like reminders, game-center, and notifications. They also added easer access to social networks like facebook, twitter, flikr; and connect to your iOS devices. Is this all really necessary or is it just typical advertising to draw in the average buyer?
Now I see Apple is trying to make life easer on it's buyers, but where is the artistic improvements in the app's, sure you can share your photographs that you edited in iPhoto, or a video you spliced together in iMovie, but what about a NEW creative application, like an animation program that apple makes specifically for its computers, or a type of web designer that lets you design in HTML format? So, how I see it, in the beginning Apple computers where made for the artistic type, Today they seem to be in too big a rush to stay ahead of Windows then to try something different. To get to my point, what's new? Not improved, what's NEW?!
I am looking for a reason why this program is worth buying?
    Thanks,
    pappyprops

Yes, the focus with ML is certainly on trying to get people who have iOS devices to switch to using Apple computers.
For long-time devotees of OS X like us, there's not much in it. Snow Leopard was still a far more versatile and more widely compatible OS than either 10.7 or 10.8. If you're on 10.6.8. I would think twice about upgrading.
However, I think if you're on 10.7 already, it's worth upgrading to 10.8, simply because ML seems to be more stable and more refined. They have fixed some of the annoying things in Lion (like you can now put Devices back to the top of the Finder sidebar, Resume is turned off by default, 'Save As' has been resurrected, Launchpad actually has a filter bar etc etc.). Some of the apps are better too - some nice new features in Preview for editing and Safari has an all-in-one address/search bar).
More features are advertised explained here: http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/features.html

  • Why is my new iPhone 4S and Lion operating system so glitchy and problematic, compared to the 3GS that I had before?

This is the 2nd time in the same day that I've sought out the Apple support communities after never once having to in the 6 years that I've used Apple products. All of my Apple products (iphone 3GS, 2 ipods, an imac with snow leopard, 2 ibooks) has worked very well that I've purchased from Apple until the last two products I've purchased.
Within the last month I've purchased the iphone 4S and upgraded to Lion on my iMac. When I bought the iphone 4S I was shown that there was a new feature, iCloud, loved it! What a great idea for people like me that have multiple Apple products and now that information can be merged together without plugging in a cord!? I upgraded to Lion to have the same capabilities from my imac, to my ipad, to my iphone. The Lion operating system has had more glitches and problems than I could have ever imagined any apple product having (I've already started a discussion on how to get through to Apple that Lion needs to be reworked).
So far I've had nothing but problems with the iphone 4S, (Apps quitting, phone freezing, calls dropping, calls not going through, Bluetooth connection). After contacting support I was told to power off the phone (had already done that), and then to reset the phone (actually very easy with iCloud), but this is not something you should have to do with an Apple product that is a week old. Even after resetting the phone has continued to have the same problems. I'm considering taking it back, but I loved my 3GS so much before, and I'm expecting / hoping an update will come out that fixes all of these problems.
Is anyone having these same problems after upgrading phones?
Has anyone heard of updates coming out?
Is iCloud part of the problems I've been experiencing with my iPhone 4 S and the Lion operating system?
I used to feel that Apple was synonymous with problem free computers and gadgets. I've continued to buy and use so many Apple products because they worked so well with very few problems. Did Apple's ability to make quality products die with the old CEO?

Sounds like the backup of your old phone, which was restored to the new phone, was / is corrupt. Set it up as a new device. Do NOT restore your backup. See how it behaves. I'm will ing to bet the entire problem with the phone has been caused by a corrupted backup that is now affecting your phone. Every time you restore, the problem comes with it.
I've had no problems at all with Lion or my iPhone 4S.

i had an error in the code. which comes from working too fast. & also for free!
so you should cast to char after you do a check for -1. that is the only change.
    two other issues:
you can use a larger buffer size for expected larger streams.
you really should be closing your own stream within a finally clause.

    import java.net.*;

  • G5 machine LP7 faster than LP8?

Hi There, is it just me or does Logic Pro 8 run somewhat slower on a G5 machine than Logic pro 7 would?
When I open some of the older songs on LP8, the program seems to drag more than it usually would in LP7. Are my observations accurate? Would LP8 run faster if I upgraded to MAC OS X.5? Or is it too going make my G5 even slower?

    Chance Harper wrote:
Hi there "fermusic"! Thanks for your post.
Look I love what they have done with LP8, there is just one thing I really don't know what I am going to do about. I mean it's frustrating me to the point of pulling out my hair here!
your G5 is a Dual 1.8... it comes with a old graphic card
... I suppose that your graphic card is a 64Mb Ati?
    the original one?
When moving up or down in the arrange page or mixer window, LP8 takes freakin' forever! LP7 use to do that when your playing a project that's a bit processor duty heavy but LP8 does it even if the track isn't playing, it's ridiculous.
There are some issue that comes with the NEW "Cocoa" Logic 8 graphics... (totally new developed... it is totally different from LP7... and comes with big bugs as normal in a so complex software such as Audio DAW)
I can confirm that the Logic 8.0.x graphics section interferes too much with the CPU Audio Performance..
(but not so much with my system... LP7 projects runs with same CPU power request or more power in some cases)
Obviously the previous LP7 "Carbon" Graphics was smoother than actual "Cocoa" but I hope it is a problem of youth that will be resolved on the nexts updates (that for sure will works better on Leopard)
Anyway on my system I don't have many graphics issue... Leopard and Logic works better than Tiger on My Machine...
*This issue are not so big to make me back to LP7*
*Logic Pro *8 is more stable and comes with Sound Quality improvements*
*I never will back to logic 7 and I never will back to Tiger!*
I have a 128MB ATI radeon 9600 pro original installed on My Dual G5!
(I use also 3x UAD-1 that helps the CPU process)
Are there any others of you out there that know what I am talking about? Would the new operating system help with solving this or is a new MAC the only solution?
I'm looking for the "new ATI 9600 pro expecially made for the old G5 AGPX8 256MB... (that supports 2x 30 inch Display without loosing PCI slots)
I think a powerfull Graphics card can help the power of your 1.8 G5 and allow you to use Leopard.

  • Why is Photoshop CC 64-bit is slower than 32-bit?

I have a very powerful system.
    HP Z820 Workstation
    Intel Xeon CPU E5-2670 0 @ 2.60 GHz (2 processors)
    64 GB RAM
    64-bit OS
    Windows 7 Pro
Nvidiea GeForce GTX 690 (2 GPUs) 4 GB VRAM ea.
But here's the deal. When I'm painting or drawing down to the pixels within Photoshop CC 64-bit, it crawls, the lag is so great!  I have caching on an SSD card even.  Then I had an idea, I switched to the 32-bit version of Photoshop CC and everything is good, it's faster than the 64-bit version.
What gives?!?  Why would the 32-bit version be faster than the 64-bit version?

I know, it's VERY odd. I can actually do things faster in 32-bit mode Photoshop CC. I'm painting a very large digital painting. 180 dpi, at 40" x 24" (for print) - When I first started painting it, I was using Adobe Photoshop CS5 and it was very smooth to paint it, very fast.  But now I've upgraded to Photoshop CC and the 64-bit is VERY slow, and lags terribly.   Then just on a whim, I opened up Photoshop CC 32-bit and could paint just the way I did with the old CS5, very fast and smooth.  It's like Photoshop CC 64-bit was a major step down in performance.
    Here's my system info.
