Why is Firefox putting a cache folder on my memory stick

Every time I launch Firefox (windows 7) it puts a "Cache" folder on my USB memory stick, if the stick in installed.
Inside the folder is a "Firefox" folder with all sorts of folders under that.
If I close Firefox, I can delete the Cache folder, but it comes back if I relaunch Firefox
I want Firefox to put the Cache on my hard drive, not my USB drive.

hello gribbled, please try this: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.cache.disk.parent_directory''' - right-click and reset that entry to the default value and restart the browser once.

  • Why does firefox put a check mark on work offline?

I have a problem with a fresh install of firefox.
It seems to place a check mark on work offline.
After removal it worked fine for a time & then firefox put a check mark back on work offline.
    Please help.

Firefox detects when your computer goes offline and automatically puts a check mark next to "Work Offline".

  • I want to add a message when I close firefox reminding me not to forget my memory stick

I'm using the latest version of firefox portable on a USB memory stick. It is a fresh install today. I work in different places and I'm worried about leaving my memory stick behind. I was hoping there was some way of adding a notification when I close firefox reminding me to remove my memory stick. I have searched the add on site and forums but cannot find an answer.
Is there an add on that might help?
Can I change the text of the "are you sure you want to close firefox" notification to something else?

For Windows computers, write a batch file. The first line would start Firefox.
The rest of the batch should be your reminder. Add a '''Pause''' command
at the end of the batch, or the message will just flash and disappear.
If you want some guidance on this, just ask.

  • What is google analytica and why does Firefox put it on my computer?

Firefox has put google analytica on my browser. Why did you do that and how do I get it off?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

There are pages that I try to log onto, such as when I go to gjsentinel.com and then click on any of their stories. It will blink the story briefly and then then the screen goes black and at the bottom of my window (Firefox) it continually says "Waiting for google-analytics.com" and just stays there. However, the address line at the top continues to say http://www.gjsentinel.com/ This does not happen when I use Safari.

  • Why does Firefox put my downloads in the tempfolder, against my order to put them in the downloadfolder?

I set my downloadlocation under Extra--> General to D:\Downloads. But they keep coming in in the Tempfolder. How can this be?

Firefox immediately starts downloading the file in the background and saves the file to the temp folder and doesn't wait until you specify the name and the location (destination folder).
If the file stays in the temp folder then it is possible that your security software is blocking the file and prevents Firefox from moving the file to the specified destination folder.

  • Why does firefox put hotmail on the edge of the page and keep losing installed addons?

I have recently been trying out various addons and then deleting those I found unsatisfactory. I finally just kept Adblock Plus. I have also adjusted the settings for Mozilla. As a consequence Mozilla keeps putting my hotmail on the lefthand edge of the page making it impossible to view.
Also the Addon disappears as if I have reset Mozilla. This morning it opened as I had set it . Then later it once again did as I have mentioned. I look forward to your suggestions, yours PPPE

I know Adblock is not active and despite so called successful installation it remains inactive.
Hotmail and any other site uses one third of the page with the remaining space used by the Mozilla home page.
Settings are default settings as set by resetting Mozilla.
I didn't realize I was impacting on the display options.
I've tried reset several times and still have the same result.

  • Why is firefox showing websites cached that I never visited?

Today my wife received a cold call from a heater/ac guy. She gave him my number and told him to call me. When I got home I searched his phone number on google. Several options showed up and it showed that each of the links for the first 2 pages of searches were cached on my browser but I never visited any of the sites. Has my security been compromised?

It might have been preloading the web page into cache for faster loading times. I'm not sure if FF does this by default, so i'm not certain.

  • Why is Firefox 12 using 2 000 000 KB memory?

    Hey guys!
I have no clue as to why this is, but since I installed Firefox 12 it has been hogging memory like crazy! I admit that I am one of those people who like to have over a lot of tabs open at once. More often than not I have about 110 tabs open. This is because I like to do several things at the same time and I do a lot of researching on the web.
Only recently I had 125 tabs open. Now I have grouped these into smaller groups using Tab Group or the "Panorama". This helped a little, at first. I have also closed several of these tabs and narrowed this number to about 60 tabs.
At its peak it was using 2 000 000 KB of memory. Now it's more like 1 200 000 KB at most. I just restarted Firefox about 5 minutes ago and now this number is currently at 665 000 KB. It started off with about 400 000 KB and it is still raising as time goes by without me even doing anything with it. It just sits there and steals memory. :)
The memory usage raises to a point where Firefox becomes almost completely unresponsive. From time to time I have to wait a few seconds before I can even click in this very text field and continue typing.
I am using Windows Vista SP2, 64-bit, and 4093 MB of total physical memory according to the Performance tab in Windows Task Manager. So Firefox is using half of that memory.
    What's going on here?
Also, this all makes the use of Tab Group feature almost impossible. It's very slow to open up the Tab Group or the "panorama". It is very slow and lagging.
I have an XFX Radeon HD5850 graphics card, so I wouldn't say it's due to a slow graphics card. This one is also factory overclocked. Other specs are 2.2 GHz Intel dual core CPU, X38 Intel chipset Gigabyte board, all SATA2 disk drives from Seagate and WD, 7200 RPM, top range. The memory modules are from Corsair, 667 MHz I believe, XMS with DHX.
Overall I think it's a good, solid performance desktop, and I have not had any major issues with resource hungry software except this time.
Firefox has been up and running now for some additional 10 minutes and the memory usage has increased to 695 000 KB. And counting... oh no, help, it's gonna blow up my computer! ;) It's gonna launch me into space...
Just a side note; I do use the hibernation mode a lot or the "sleep" button. But I have made sure it's not related to it by restarting Firefox several times and also rebooting to make sure to flush the RAM but it didn't help.
I do have a brand new 4 GB kit of the same brand and model that I never used up. I felt like 4 GB was plenty enough and decided to keep that second kit as a spare. So I could technically plug in that one to get 8 GB at most out of the computer. But I think it would be only counter productive... wouldn't you agree? I think the problem needs to be tackled at its core, not worked around of or swept under the carpet.
I must stop typing now... it's up at 731 000 KB now. I'm starting to feel the effects of it. Not even the memory hungry Photoshop Lightroom is using this much memory on this computer.

hello fractalogic, thank you for providing such detailed information. you have the firebug addon installed - although it is a quite powerful tool it is also known to cause some memory leaks at the moment (changes in the upcoming firefox version 15 will hopefully mitigate that). please try disabling it & only activate if you're want to use it and see if this is making a difference.
some plugins (firefox > addons > plugins) like java are also reportedly eating large amounts of memory on some machines.

  • Why does Firefox 4 (4.0.1 specifically) leak memory?

    '''Answer:''' I figured it out.
History lesson first. Ever since the 4.0.1 update, Firefox 4 has been crashing A LOT. It's gotten so bad that FF4.0.1 will eat memory with no end in sight and eventually Windows (Win 7 64-bit) forcefully close the program due to an out of memory error.
I have 8 GB of RAM installed. And, it would crash once it exceeds 1.5 GB of RAM used by Firefox 4. I've seen Firefox 4 go up to 1.85 GB of RAM in Task Manager. This is with 20 tabs open.
With the add-on Leak-Monitor, I've narrowed down the issue. Having only Leak-Monitor as the extension installed, all pop-ups point to how '''poorly Firefox 4 handles Javascript'''!
    MSNBC Leak Monitor issue:
[http://www.octoberasian.com/tech/text/FF4-Leak-Monitor_MSNBC.txt Leak Monitor log from MSNBC.com]
I've gotten more pop-ups from even support.mozilla.com because of the Javascript on this website.
Firefox 4.0.1 is leaking memory from every Javascript on every website I load. It's leaking memory as we speak with only this page loaded (one tab).
FIX IT! Firefox 4 is poorly handling Javascript, especially when multiple tabs are opened.

octoberasian: I, too, am experiencing this phenomenon. I shut my system down, pulled the EIC cable, held down the power button - then replugged and rebooted. I closed down every unneeded application that I have set to auto-start. Finally, I opened a single Firefox 4.0.1 window and let it sit. It began with consuming 43 Mb of memory. By afternoon - about 5 hours later - it was up to 203 Mb. There is definitely something very wrong with this version. It does the same on all the machines we have, sans our server. We don't use the server for anything but being a server & it has some version of Firefox 3 on it anyway. No Java Scripts were running, nor were any Adobe ARM or any plugins. I noticed when plugins run - the memory leakage goes into overdrive. Hey, I'm just sayin'...

  • Why is Itunes cluttering my music folder with system files?

Ok i was using windows 7 before this and it was fine. Then i reformatted my drive and put windows 7 again. Downloaded latest itunes v9 and installed. Copied my entire music library backed up on my external hd and copied it to the music folder under the libraries section. In windows 7 the "my music" folder under user>documents and settings is actually the same as the "music" folder in the libraries on your pc. The music folder in libraries simply can compose of multiple folder so it simply displays all the contents of the "my music" folder and can also include other folders.
Anyhow itunes screw up indexing my library but thats a whole problem of another sort. The main issue is that after it sees my music library and after I have downloaded something it does this. http://img169.imageshack.us/i/65030372.jpg/
In that link as you can see in music under libraries it just leaves all those system and downloaded files. There actually ends up being hundreds after it gets album/song artwork since each artwork picture comes up as a ict2 file.
However if i go to the my music folder in documents and settings it neatly tucks away all those files into their respective folder in itunes media or artworkd, despite the few core library files. http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5956/55950795.jpg
AT the moment i have deleted all the music in my library. Deleting those system files simply makes itunes no longer see an library. I have tried reinstalling with no avail. Why is it putting everything in folder in my music but not doing the same in music-libraries which is the same identical folder.

This is just a thought, because I've not played with Windows 7, but near the top of your 1st image it says *Music Library, Includes 2 Locations*. I think you're looking at a view there which will display the contents of all possible music storage locations and the contents all of their subfolders, i.e. like a search result box. The other image corrsponds to a regular folder layout. iTunes stores an Album Artwork folder inside the main iTunes folder along with it's main database and a number of other supporting files. These files are required for iTunes to work so you can't just delete them. If you want to look at your media folders the use Windows Explorer to look inside *iTunes\iTunes Media*.

  • How do I put a bootable SL OS on an 8GB flash memory stick?

I have made a disk image of my Snow Leopard installation DVD with Disk Utility.
How do I put the disk image on a memory stick so that it will be bootable.
Once it is made, how do I boot into it ?
I know that for a DVD you hold down the C key during startup. Will this work or do I need to do something different?

    Have you tried Disk Utility>Restore?

  • Why I can no longer save videos (*.flv) from my cache folder?

    Well, I don't speak English.
    I'm sorry.
    Cordialmente,
    Elson

it is way more convenient just to get the cached videos (not just from youtube) from the cache folder... no encoding/downloading/converting because the file is already there!
I don't get it why Mozilla decided to hide the .flv files from cache... makes me want to change browser :(

  • Firefox conintually creates a folder in my cache that is 60MB. It's titled e3xuyg2m.default. How can I get rid of it permanently?

''locking this thread as duplicate, please continue at [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/992841 /questions/992841]''
I've noticed a folder is created and I have no clue what it's for. All I know is that it is created in the C:\Users\[My Computer Name]\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\e3xuyg2m.default and it's bulky, 60MB! It's creating a number of files within the cache folder. I have tried to remove it using CCleaner, but no permanent solution. This does not happen on my other computers, only my laptop. Therefore I'm coming to the conclusion it's not a necessary file. Is it malicious? How can I permanently remove it? Aside from being questionable, it's weighing down my computer.
    Thanks in advance!

hello tomterrimort, if your manual changes don't 'stick' after a restart of the browser, please look out for any suspicious extensions (like 3rd-party-toolbars or things you have not installed intentionally) presently installed under '''firefox/tools > addons > extensions''' or the programs section of the windows control panel and remove those entries.
in case this doesn't solve the issue please try this: go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder", then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''' (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.
